Considering the most beautiful seas, it’s worth paying attention to the southern water bodies, although, without doubt, each sea is attractive and charming in its own way.
The most beautiful sea in the world — Coral Sea
If we consider the beauty of the seas, and not their coasts, then the first place should be given to the Coral Sea. The Coral Sea is a dangerous place for sailors, and at the same time one of the most beautiful places for diving, and all this is due to the unique coral reefs that are at its bottom.
The second place — Red Sea
The Red Sea is a truly magnificent place. It has rich fish stocks, a huge number of amazing creatures live in it, and the underwater world is exceptionally rich. Many corals live only here, and divers are strictly forbidden to break them.
The third place — Caribbean
This is the warmest exotic (异域风情的) place where not only the sea but also the plants on its coast please the eye. It’s located between North and South America, and on its shore there are a number of small countries. Many tourists come here, because rest here is inexpensive, and you can experience different cultural traditions.
The fourth place — Bali Sea
The Bali Sea is located in the Pacific Ocean. This is another paradise (天堂) for relaxation,
receiving many tourists every season. The sea has a warm climate, creating ideal conditions for relaxing on the islands ofJava, Sulawesi, Sumbawa, Madura.
21. For which group of people is the Coral Sea most suitable?

Katalin Karikó along with her colleague Drew Weissman won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2023 for the development of messenger RNA (mRNA) technology.
Karikó was born in January 1955, in a small village in Hungary. She had an ambition from early on to become a scientist. As a young adult, she became interested in mRNA, which carries DNA instructions to the protein-making engine of cells. She hoped that mRNA could play a key role in the treatment of various diseases. It became her mission to make her dream a reality to help cure patients. However, Karikó faced a shortage of money for her research in her country, and she then faced the choice of stopping and doing something not connected to her mission or continuing her research at the price of having to leave her country.
After searching for posts and scholarships worldwide, Karikó accepted an offer from Temple University in Philadelphia for a postdoctoral fellowship. Karikó and her husband gave up everything they had in their homeland and bought a one-way ticket to the U. S., where they knew no one. She was aware of the risks but didn’t feel discouraged. As she put it in an award acceptance speech, “Follow your dreams and don’t hesitate to learn anything from anyone.”
She was initially on track to become a full professor but received repeated fund rejections. Undeterred by the problems and challenges, she chose to continue her research. By focusing on what mattered to her every day, she “accidentally” met her work partner Drew Weissman who was also interested in mRNA. They teamed up to work on mRNA and published papers about their groundbreaking discovery for years. Then the pandemic hit the world. The changed mRNA technology Karikó and Weissman invented was then used in vaccines that prevented the infection effectively.
Karikó’s life is a testament to finding one’s passion and then pursuing it every single day. Many of us know what we are fond of, but we are not good self-motivators on a daily basis.
24. What can we learn about Karikó from paragraph 2?
A. She had a clear sense of purpose. B. She was poor when she was young.
C. She was hesitant to leave her country. D. She longed to be a doctor to cure patients.
25. What does the underlined part “Undeterred by” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Being afraid of. B. Not motivated by.
C. Being unaware of. D. Not discouraged by. 26. What is probably the main contribution of Karikó?
A. Simplifying the mRNA technology.
B. Making the structure of mRNA clear.
C. Laying the foundation for mRNA vaccines.
D. Developing a vaccine for a serious disease.
27. What can we learn from Karikó’s success?
A. Every minute counts. B. Two heads are better than one.
C. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. D. Necessity is the mother of invention.

Driverless taxis operated by AI are gradually becoming a common sight. For instance, the Chinese city of Wuhan has seen an explosive growth of such taxis, with a peak of over 20 orders per car in a single day.
Consumers prefer it for finding themselves paying less for the Apollo Go, the robotaxi operated by Chinese tech group Baidu, than traditional ones run by human drivers. In Wuhan, a 10-kilometer ride in a self-driving robotaxi costs between 4 and 16 yuan ($0.55—$2.22), while a regular service costs between 18 and 30 yuan ($2.48—$4. 13).
Apollo Go started offering fully driverless services on open roads and received the permits to collect fees from the passengers on August 8, 2022. According to Baidu’s financial report, Apollo Go has provided over 6 million rides as of April, 2024.
The emergence of AI-driven technology is bound to reshape industries, and at the forefront
are autonomous vehicles. With the gradual promotion of unmanned vehicles, many wonder: Is unmanned driving taking away the livelihood of taxi drivers? Will it eventually replace drivers? Millions of individuals earn their livelihoods in the transportation industry. Apart from taxi drivers, there are also long-haul (长途的) truckers and local delivery drivers. According to a McKinsey report, self-driving cars could represent as much as 15 percent of global vehicle sales by 2030. This shift will not only impact traditional driving roles but also spread across industries related to transportation. As humanity step into the AI era, it is crucial to ensure that this transformation is smooth, human-centered, and provides ordinary people with sufficient preparation time.
The shift from human drivers to AI in transportation is not just a technological matter but a deeply human one. While autonomous transportation offers great potential, it also presents significant challenges. It is the duty of professionals to adjust, promote, and guarantee that AI attaches importance to the well-being of humanity, and technologies are directed toward goodness, enabling AI to better serve humanity.
28. What makes Apollo Go popular in Wuhan?
A. Easy operation. B. Great convenience.
C. Favorable price. D. Novel appearance. 29. Why does the promotion of robotaxi concern the public?
A. It may bring unexpected road safety issues.
B. It may negatively impact the labor market.
C. It may increase passengers ’ financial burden.
D. It may slow innovation in automobile industry.
30. What can be inferred about AI in transportation?
A. It generates a numerous profit. B. It improves the road conditions.
C. It is in need of careful progress. D. It causes challenges to passengers. 31. What might the author approve of?
A. The advantages of robotaxis outweigh their disadvantages.
B. Apollo Go will replace taxi-drives completely.
C. We can do nothing about the trend.
D. AI Drive Should Be Human-centered.

According to the Solar Energy Industry Association, the number of solar panels installed ( 安装) has grown rapidly in the past decade, and it has to grow even faster to meet climate goals. But all of that growth will take up a lot of space, and though more and more people accept the concept of solar energy, few like large solar panels to be installed near them.
Solar developers want to put up panels as quickly and cheaply as possible, so they haven’t given much thought to what they put under them. Often, they’ll end up filling the area with small stones and using chemicals to control weeds. The result is that many communities, especially in farming regions, see solar farms as destroyers of the soil.
“Solar projects need to be good neighbors,” says Jordan Macknick, the head of the Innovative Site Preparation and Impact Reductions on the Environment (InSPIRE) project. “They need to be protectors of the land and contribute to the agricultural economy.” InSPIRE is investigating practical approaches to “low-impact” solar development, which focuses on establishing and operating solar farms in a way that is kinder to the land. One of the easiest low-impact solar strategies is providing habitat for pollinators (传粉昆虫).
Habitat loss, pesticide use, and climate change have caused dramatic declines in pollinator populations over the past couple of decades, which has damaged the U.S. agricultural economy. Over 28 states have passed laws related to pollinator habitat protection and pesticide use. Conservation organizations put out pollinator-friendliness guidelines for home gardens, businesses, schools, cities — and now there are guidelines for solar farms.
Over the past few years, many solar farm developers have transformed the space under their solar panels into a shelter for various kinds of pollinators, resulting in soil improvement and carbon reduction. “These pollinator-friendly solar farms can have a valuable impact on everything that’s going on in the landscape,” says Macknick.
32. What do solar developers often ignore?
A. The decline in the demand for solar energy.
B. The negative impact of installing solar panels. C. The rising labor cost of building solar farms.
D. The most recent advances in solar technology.
33. What does InSPIRE aim to do?
A. Improve the productivity of local farms.
B. Invent new methods for controlling weeds.
C. Make solar projects environmentally friendly. D. Promote the use of solar energy in rural areas.
34. What is the purpose of the laws mentioned in paragraph 4?
A. To conserve pollinators. B. To restrict solar development.
C. To diversify the economy. D. To ensure the supply of energy.
35. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. Pollinators: To Leave or to Stay B. Solar Energy: Hope for the Future
C. InSPIRE: A Leader in Agriculture D. Solar Farms: ANew Development

Traditionally, the recipe for hairy crabs 62 (be) simple—the crabs are steamed and then eaten with a sauce. They’re paired 63 (excellent) with huangjiu, a Chinese liquor ( 酒) made from fermented ( 发酵) grains. Neha was very upset because her little sister spilled water on her science project. This was not the first time that her sister had damaged her schoolwork. So, Neha asked her parents to buy her a study table with drawers where she could safely keep her books.
Neha's parents could not afford to buy a brand new table. However, they agreed to buy her a second-hand table. One day after school, Neha's mother took her to a second-hand furniture store, so that she could buy a table of her choice. Neha accidentally opened a drawer in an old black table. And, guess what she found? A small transparent ( 透明的) plastic bag with some rupee (卢比) notes inside.
“Am I the luckiest twelve-year-old? My birthday is coming up soon. With this money, I can buy myself a great many presents ... maybe a bicycle, books, dresses ... and maybe I can even buy things for my family,” Neha thought. She was overcome with greed (贪婪) and quickly pushed the bag to the back of the drawer.
She went to her mother and told her that she wanted to buy that black table. Neha's mother told her that the table looked too old and she should look for something better. “No! I like this one,” Neha insisted. She was feeling scared inside but her greed made her lie.
Neha could not wait until everybody left after the table was organized in her room. She
locked the room and quickly opened the drawer and took out the plastic bag with the rupee notes inside. There was a note in the money bag. It seemed that some old lady was saving the money for her children and grandchildren. Neha began counting the money. She could hear her heart beat louder and louder and finally she counted twelve thousand rupees.
But now, with all the money she had, she thought she would have to make up many lies in order to spend that money and would have to hide the money all the time.

书面表达 One possible version:
Good afternoon, everyone! Bittersweet moments are those that we cherish but also make us feel a sense of loss.
One example of a bittersweet moment is when I graduated from junior high school. I was happy to have completed that stage of learning and excited about the future, but I also felt disheartened because I was leaving behind friends and memories that I had made over the years.
Bittersweet moments can be difficult to deal with because they are so complex. However, they are also an important part of life because they help us learn and grow.
Thank you!
读后续写 One possible version:
With her heart still racing, Neha gathered the strength to face up to what she had done. She called her parents into her room, her eyes filled with determination. As they entered, she handed them the plastic bag filled with the unexpected treasure. “Mom, Dad, I found this, but I know it’s not mine,” she said, her voice steady. “Let’s return it and find the rightful owners. I don’t want to keep something that doesn’t belong to me.” Her parents exchanged a look of pride and immediately agreed. They wrapped their arms around Neha, offering words of encouragement.
Together, the three of them went back to the store, where the shop owner offered to help. They discovered that the money belonged to an elderly woman who had sold the old black table to the store but forgot to take out the bag in the drawer. So they immediately contacted with the woman and returned the money. Seeing the genuine happiness she had brought to the woman’s life, Neha finally let out a sigh of relief. “This birthday,” she thought, “I’ve gained something more valuable than any gift — the restoration of my honesty.”
