In contemporary Limes the term “global village” most commonly refers to the internet, which takes it one step further: now people around the world can not only access the same information, they can also access each other, immediately. Seemingly worldwide electronic communication is bringing us all together under one global cultural umbrella, promoting mutual understanding and hopefully reducing conflict. Although it is attractive to believe this is the case, in fact the ease with which people can now connect electronically has only changed the ways in which people interact, not the basic form of those interactions. The world is no more a village than it ever was. The term “village” brings to mind a community that has held together for mutual protection. Members of a village have a vested interest in the survival of other members: there is strength in numbers, and if your crops fail, chances are that your neighbor will help you until the next harvest. Since the introduction of the internet, the idea of a community no longer necessarily means everyone lives right next door to each other, but the basic idea of unity and mutual care remains. People who connect online do so because they are interested in similar things: they are somehow alike, just as people in real villages are often related through family or industry. [语篇解读] 本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了大众传媒的类型、功能以及对人们生活的影响等。 1.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 1 refer to? A.Telegraph. B.Radio. C.Media. D.Internet. A.Two. B.Three. C.Four. D.Five. B [细节理解题。根据第一段中的“Seemingly worldwide electronic communication is bringing us all together under one global cultural umbrella, promoting mutual understanding and hopefully reducing conflict.(表面上世界范围内的电子通讯将我们所有人聚集在一个全球文化保护伞下,促进相互理解,希望减少冲突。)”可知,世界范围内的电子通讯在表面上有将人们聚集在全球文化保护伞下、促进相互理解、希望减少冲突三个功能。] 3.Why do people connect online? A.A news report. B.A fiction book. C.An ad website. D.A science newspaper. Morten Hansen has such a(n) 2 personal experience. “When I was in a company in London, I worked really hard and tried to 3 ,” he says. “And I did. He carried out a study, surveying more than 5,000 7 over five years to figure out how they worked, and what 8 working pattern had on their performance. After the data was analyzed, some surprising conclusions appeared. “We always think that by doing more, we will 9 more,” he says. “Actually, what we've found is that top performers do the 10 and they are very selective. I know mine. That day was one of the saddest days of my life. It was a Sunday in the year of 2021. I arrived at my class that morning. As soon as I walked in, the mood immediately felt depressing and uncomfortable. I knew exactly why the mood felt this way. The classmates around me were controlling their sadness. Today was the day when our head teacher would leave and move to another school. Mr. Smith was finally leaving our school after five years' teaching here. Mr. Smith was an extremely likable guy. He was very easy to talk with and to have fun with. He was cool, relaxed, and was always friendly when you would see him. He watched us grow up. He taught us knowledge and to love others. I couldn't even imagine how things were going to be without him. These thoughts flooded my mind, and I became discouraged. “Hey, are you alright?” My friend interrupted my thinking. “Yeah, I'm alright. I'm just kind of sad that Mr. Smith's leaving,” I replied. “Yeah, me too. I had so many good times with him when I was younger.” “I wish he were our teacher forever,” as I sighed, all happy moments flooded my mind. “Hey, can you stop talking please?” my deskmate politely asked. My friend quickly leaned back to his spot, and I began to think again. “Thank you everyone for my times here. I will forever keep these memories and friendships I've made in the past five years.” He took a deep breath and announced, “As a gift for my leaving, please look under your seats.” Confused, I slowly checked under my seat to see a yellow block of wood that read “LOVE” on it. I quickly grabbed it and began to study it. After seconds of analyzing this strange rectangle, I realized that it was a Jenga block (积木块). Paragraph 1: The Jenga block was freshly painted bright yellow. Paragraph 2: Reflecting on this moment today, maybe that day wasn't the worst day after all. [参考范文] Paragraph 1: The Jenga block was freshly painted bright yellow. I immediately felt sadness and I began to tear up. I glanced over to my friend to see him crying and noticed that his Jenga block was very different from mine. Curiosity quickly became my objective as I looked around to see that everyone's Jenga block was different. Some had different designs, colors, patterms, but all had the word “LOVE” written in some way. “This is a reminder to always love others,” Mr. Smith said slowly. Paragraph 2: Reflecting on this moment today, maybe that day wasn't the worst day after all. I keep these memories to myself, especially the word “LOVE”, which became my ultimate lifestyle and taught me how I lived everyday. The more I grew up, the more I understood why loving others was so important. I've gotten most of my friends this way and people respect me more as a person. To this day, the Jenga block sits on the top of my computer desk as a reminder to love others. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
