I know I 2 to be very quiet. But you did something that changed my life a lot. You see, I hated to read books in the past. I was 3 with them. Your voice seemed to change with the people in the story, and you drew pictures in my mind as you read aloud. From then on, I made a 4 to do the reading well. I will never give up reading in my life.
When I picked up a book and read it myself, I found that I could make the words interesting, too. Now I love reading! Thank you for 5 the world of books for me.

English teenagers will receive cooking lessons in schools. The idea is to encourage healthy eating to solve the problem that many people are overweight. Also, it worries people that basic cooking and food preparation, skills are being lost because parents use too much pre-prepared fast foods. Cooking was once regarded as an important part of education in England—even if it was mainly for girls. In recent years cooking has become less important in schools. But the rising level of obesity (肥胖) has led to a rethink about the food that children are given and the skills they should be taught.

The new lessons will start in September, but some schools without kitchen will be given a longer time to prepare. Also there may be a shortage of teachers with the right skills, since schools have been teaching food technology rather than practical cooking. Besides, the lessons for hands-on cooking will only be one hour a week for one term. But the well-known cookery writer, Pru Leith, believes it will be worth it.
“If we’d done this thirty years ago we might not have to face the problem about obesity and lack of knowledge about food and so on. Every child should know how to cook, not just so that they’ll be healthy, but because it’s a life skill which is a real pleasure.”

I left school 22 years ago. I don’t regret many things about my school days, but there are a few things I wish I’d known then that I know now. So here’s my list of five things I wish I’d learned at school.
28 As a young child, you try many new things. If you fail, you try again and again until you learn. Then you start school where you are usually only rewarded for doing things correctly. So what happens? You stop trying new things in case you get it wrong.
Learn to lose. I hated losing when I was younger. Of course, it’s nice to win sometimes and to be the best at something. 29 Learning to lose is one of the life’s most important lessons. If you try your hardest, then you should never be angry with yourself.
Don’t compare with others. I always wanted to be the best, and one way of feeling good about myself was to see how much better I was than others. When I saw they were better than me, I felt terrible. Now I compare me with myself. 30
Never worry too much. I used to worry a lot. Now I know most things you fear will usually never happen. They are just monsters in your own mind. 31
Spend time on something. When I was young, I often didn’t do things because I thought they’d take too long to finish. I always wanted to write a book. 32 It seemed such a long time. Now I know a year means nothing. If I’d started that when I was 16, I might have written ten more by now. I’m cross with myself for not even trying.
A.Try new things as many as possible.
B.But we can’t be winners all the time.
C.I ask myself if I do things as well as I could.
D.It is important to know the reason why we lose sometimes.
E.But when I thought it might take me more than a year, I lost the enthusiasm (热情).
F.And if they happen, they will most often not be as bad as you expected, so keep your cool.
What is it like to grow up?
As you grow older, there will be certain events that will mark your growth. Graduating from high school and getting your first job are just a few of these. What are some other ways in which we mark our journey toward adulthood?
In the US, getting your driver’s license (执照) at the age of 16 is seen as a major coming-of-age (成人) ritual (仪式). You may have seen kids celebrating their first car in movies and TV shows. It is the first true taste of independence for most teenagers. But not every teenager gets a car right away. Usually, their parents will buy a second-hand car for them as their first car.
Another big coming-of-age event is the prom Held at the end of the year, the prom is a graduation celebration for senior high school students. Teenagers wear fancy clothing, ask each other to dance and vote (投票) for a prom “king” and “queen”. For many teenagers, prom is the biggest social event of the year. It’s a time for them to dress and act like an adult.
And there’s still more. At the age of 18, we can vote in the US - and at 21, we can drink alcohol (酒). This is also the time when most children move out of their parents’ home for college or work.
It is around this age that society starts to consider us to be adults. But what does it really mean to be an adult?
Psychologist Jeffrey Arnett surveyed young adults and found three common adulthood goals: taking responsibility for yourself, making independent decisions, and being financially (经济上) independent.
I agree with Arnett. Being an adult has more to do with one’s maturity (成熟). If you want to drive, vote, drink, leave home or even start a romantic relationship, you have to make sure that you’re ready to be responsible.
33.What can be seen as a major coming-of-age ritual in the US?
34.What do parents usually buy for their kids as their first car?
35.When is the prom held?

【答案】28.A 29.B 30.C 31.F 32.E

29.根据“Learn to lose.”

32.根据“I always wanted to write a book...It seemed such a long time.”

34.What do parents usually buy for their kids as their first car?

I’m going to senior high school.

You can electricity the lights when you leave a room.

How you since you started junior high school?
【答案】 have changed
