After all, eye problems 12 lead to poor sleep and even worse diseases. The glasses cost 13 $15 to several hundred dollars. But do they work?
Elizabeth Esparaz, an ophthalmologist (眼科专家), says the reasons which glass companies 14 (share) can be confusing. In fact, blue light is not always bad. “The sun gives off more blue light than smart phones or computers, and it’s actually beneficial,” says Dr. Esparaz. 15 helps our mood and sleep-wake cycle.

Venice, one of Europe’s most historical, romantic, and unique cities, is in danger of drowning — not in one of its famed canals but under the weight of people. Since 1980, there have been more tourists than residents in Venice and right at present the number 21 (climb) rapidly. As tourists arrive, so do businesses to support them. Small, local stores are being replaced by souvenir shops and fast-food joints; Lately, accommodations 22 (transform) to Airbnbs, driving the cost of living here forever upwards. As locals leave the city, the vacuum (真空) is filled with yet 23 (much) tourist investment and before you know it, the charm and culture of old Venice that attracted us here in the first place has been transformed and lost. It’s no wonder that 24 World Heritage Committee has made a plan to add “Venice and its Lagoon” to its World Heritage in Danger list.
Venice is not alone. Croatian favourite Dubrovnik, with history and cultural excellence, is suffering the same fate. There were 5,000 residents in 1991, but in 2017 only 1,157 people were living in the Old Town 25 it became overcrowded with tourists and businesses flooding to them. Dubrovnik is a convenient stop for cruise ships moving around the waters of the Adriatic and its popularity has grown further following the success of Game of Thrones, 26 was filmed there.
Many popular locations have started to apply strategies 27 (fight) the rising tide of tourism using a combination of legislation and financial instruments. Barcelona is limiting the number of licenses for tourist accommodation 28 reducing the number of cruise ships allowed to dock (停泊). A smaller number of tourists are allowed to visit the Old Town and 29 will need to pay a city entry fee. The tourist tax is being increased to a price higher than 30 (expect). Venice has recently introduced a tourist fee to discourage day-trippers.

Finding safe places to interact
“Why are young people staying away from their relatives?” Recently, this question 31 (cause) a heated discussion online. In fact, young people are not “giving up” their blood ties, but turning their focus to online socializing. According to a report 32 was released by a social app in May, about 60 percent of young people have no more than two close friends. For them, social apps have become the main way 33 (make) their circle bigger.
Many people believe 34 this change partly comes from the need for a lot of moves in modern times. Long-distance migration (移居) is now common across the country. Because of moving with their families, young people are unable to keep in touch with their relatives, and they become 35 (active) online.
Moreover, online socializing 36 (favor) by many people because it provides a more personal feeling. For those 37 are uneasy with real-life socializing, doing it online allows them to escape from “embarrassing” social scenes. With different social apps. making friends can be satisfied in a comfortable way. “As a shy person, I prefer non-face-to-face talks on social apps 38 I don’t have to worry about the things that make me unconfident,” said 18-year-old Wu Ruilin from Ya’an, Sichuan province. Through apps like Soul, Bilibili, and Zhihu, young people 39 find someone with similar interests. “have some close friends in music and programming circles. 40 (communicate) with them online always offers me a more relaxing atmosphere to explore these interests,” said Wu.

Convenience vs Health: the Takeaway Dilemma (纠结)
Feeling hungry? If you’re feeling so, what’s the easiest way to satisfy your hunger? Many of us will reach 41 a takeaway menu and order some delicious, but possibly unhealthy food. And our increasingly busy lives add to our need to buy ready-made food.
Eating options are endless, and new technology means we can feed our cravings at the push of a button. Takeaway delivery apps make 42 (order) food quick and convenient, and during the recent coronavirus crisis, it provided a lifeline to those 43 (stick) at home with nothing to cook or who lacked the skills to prepare a meal for 44 . It is estimated that in the UK alone, people cat three million takeaway meals a day, and the three biggest delivery apps together offer a choice of 100 cuisines from 60,000 restaurants. Amelia Brophy, Head of UK Data Products at YouGov, told the BBC that “its research suggests that the frequency of takeaways ordered 45 (expect) to increase in the future.”
46 is no wonder that we are tempted 47 (skip) the grocery shopping, bypass the kitchen, and tuck into something 48 someone else has prepared. But ordering a deep crust pizza, a spicy curry or a box of noodles, 49 come at a price both financially and to our health. Eating too much processed and unhealthy fast food bas some effect on obesity and the risk of developing certain metabolic and cardiovascular diseases. A few years ago, The BBC Good Food Nation Survey found that most people ate fast food on average two days per week. But, in the 16 to 20-year-old category, one in six ate fast food at least twice a day.
Of course, reducing salt, sugar and fat is one way to make takeaway food healthier, as well as offering smaller portion sizes. But 50 (good) advice you might want to take away from this Takeaway English is to find a recipe book and try making your own nutritious meal. And if you haven’t got time, try ordering a healthier alternative from the menu.

The TERM “killjoy parents” has been trending on Chinese social media platforms as many young pcople complain that their parents would rather criticize than praise them for their accomplishments. One poster, for example, remarked that his parents said his high score in math wasn't good enough 51 several other students had scored higher. 52 complained that, after 53 (accept) into a “second-tier” university, the response he got for his father was “Congratulations. You got admitted to a garbage university.”
It’s a terrible feeling to have someone “burst your bubble” when you think they should be sharing your joy. And your parents, after all, are probably the people with 54 you most want to share the best moments in your life. But why do some parents seem to be so hard 55 (please)?
I think a lot of it has to do with Chinese society. Parents know that life 56 be full of hardship and dificulties, and they want their children to be “hardened” to these realities. Another reason can probably be found deep in Chinese culture.
When I asked a Chinese friend why Chinese parents don’t praise their children, he said it’s because they don't want to bring their children bad luck. He told me the story of two women sitting in a park and watching their children play. One of the mothers said to the other, “Your boy is so handsome and healthy.” That other mother replied, “No, he’s very ugly and he’s a very sickly child.” The mother, my friend explained, didn't want her son praised in case the “gods” heard and punished him. It's an old superstition (迷信), but it does have some basis in fact.
American parents, at the other extreme, are taught to ever criticize their children because it may hurt their feelings—their self-esteem. Instead, they 57 (tell) to always praise their children, even for failure. Psychologists now believe this is a bad idea. According to one study, too much praise can result in negative effects. 58 kids with low self-esteem felt even worse about themselves, kids with high self-esteem became narcissistic or self-centered. Moreover, children who got too much praise were 59 (likely) to take risks, were unable to deal with failure and tended to give up when faced with challenges.
Stacey and Toby aren’t the only people to be welcoming Mariella’s app. It’s now got thousands of users, and she’s working long days to balance it with her A-level studies. The time difference from New York to her school in Rugby, Warwickshire, means she sets her alarm for 5am.
60 (have) “killjoy parents” may not be enjoyable, but it’s important to recognize that their seemingly critical nature doesn't negate the love they have for you. In their hearts, they genuinely share in your joy.

More than 25 years ago, a train took Saroo Brierley, a 4-year-old boy, a thousand miles across the country to a totally strange city. There, he 61 (bring) up by an Australian family and flew to Tasmania, Australia with them.
62 he writes in his new book, A Long Way Home, Brierley couldn’t help but wonder about his hometown back in India. He remembered landmarks, but since he didn’t know his town’s name, finding a small neighborhood in a vast country 63 (prove) to be impossible.
Then he found a digital mapping program. He spent years 64 (search) for his hometown in the program’s satellite pictures. In 2011, he came across 65 familiar. He studied it and realized he was looking at a town’s central business district 66 a bird’s-eye view. He thought “On the right-hand side you should see the three-platform train station”— and there it was. “And on the left-hand side you should see a big fountain” — and there it was. Everything just started to match.
When he stood in front of the house 67 he grew up as a child, he saw a lady standing in the entrance. “There’s something about me,” he thought — and it took him a few seconds but he finally remembered 68 she used to look like.
In an interview Brierley says, “My mother looked so much 69 (short) than I remembered. But she came forth and walked forward, and I walked forward, and my feelings and tears and the chemical in my brain, you know, it was like a nuclear fusion (核聚变). I just didn’t know what to say, 70 I never thought seeing my mother would ever come true. And here I am, standing in front of her.”

Pasta and pizza were on everyone’s lunch menu in my native land of Italy. Everyone who had such a lunch was white and 71 (speak) Italian. A few years later, as I stood in the lunch line with my kindergarten class in a school in Brooklyn, I realized things had become complex.
My classmates included kids with pale skin and kids with brown skin. The food choices were almost as various as the students. In front of me were a variety of foods that I had difficulty 72 (name) in my native language. Fearing that I would pick out 73 awful, I tried to ask the boy ahead of me for a suggestion. Unfortunately, the barrier(障碍) of language stood 74 us.
75 my kindergarten experience feels like a century ago, the lessons I learned will stick in my mind forever. For the past three summers, I 76 (work) in a government agency in New York. New immigrants much like the little girl in the lunch line flooded our office 77 (get) help. I often had to be a translator for the Italian-speaking ones.
As I served the role of a communication link, I 78 (remind) of my struggle to talk before I learned English. I watched with great sympathy as elderly Italians tried to talk in Italian with people who did not speak the language. It suddenly became very clear to me 79 lucky I was to be able to speak two languages.
New York is a multicultural city 80 students like me have a chance to work with different people. Walking through the streets of Brooklyn today, I am no longer confused by this city’s sounds and smells. Instead, I enjoy its diversity.

I have a special place in my heart for libraries. I have for as long as I can remember. I was always an enthusiastic reader, sometimes 81 (read) up to three books a day as a child. Stories were like air to me and 82 other kids played ball or went to parties, I lived out adventures through the books I checked out from the library.
My first job was working at the Ukiah Library 83 I was 16 years old. It was a dream job and I did everything from 84 (shelve) books to reading to the children for story time.
As I grew older and became a mother, the library took on a new place and 85 added meaning in my life. I had several children and books were our main source of entertainment. It was a big deal for us to load up and go to the local library, 86 my kids could pick out books to read or books they wanted me to read to them.
I always read, using different voices, 87 I were acting out the stories with my voice and they loved it! It was a special time to bond with my children and it filled them with the wonder of books.
Now, I see my children taking their children to the library and I love that the excitement of going to the library lives on from generation to generation.
88 a novelist, I’ve found a new relationship with libraries. I encourage readers to go to their local library when they can’t afford 89 (purchase) a book. I see libraries as a safe haven (避风港) for readers and writers, a bridge which 90 (help) put together a reader with a book. Libraries, in their own way, help fight book piracy(盗版行为) and I think all writers should support libraries in a significant way when they can. Encourage readers to use the library. Share library announcements on your social media. Frequent them and talk about them when you can.

Would you like to travel through time like the Doctor from Doctor Who? Well, according to scientists from the University of British Columbia in Canada and the University of Maryland in the US, it is a mathematical possibility. In a report titled Tardis — a nod to Doctor Who’s police box spacecraft, they describe a way 91 time travel could happen using a machine made of extraordinary materials.
To understand 92 these scientists have proposed, we first need to go back more than 100 years. Albert Einstein’s theory of general relativity was published in 1915 and explains how the path of light 93 (affect) by massive objects, such as planets and stars, that have a huge amount of gravity. Einstein believed that these huge objects bend space and time, allowing light to curve around them. Think of it like this: imagine you’re standing in the middle of a trampoline (蹦床) — it will dip downwards. If you put a tennis ball near the edge, it would roll towards you 94 it gets to your feet. You are 95 a planet: the dip in the trampoline is like the curve in space-time; and the tennis ball is light travelling around the planet.
One of the most interesting parts of Einstein’s theory was the idea that time 96 change, depending on how fast a person is travelling. He believed that if someone were travelling at the speed of light in space then time would pass 97 (slowly) for them, compared with someone standing still on Earth. Although this sounds impossible, scientists 98 (experiment) with accurate clocks and found that it is true.
The scientists based their report on Einstein’s theory of bending space-time. They found that if a time machine could travel faster than the speed of light and “bend time into a circle”, using something called exotic matter, then they could theoretically travel back in time. 99 the science is correct, the researchers said that it is unlikely anyone would ever achieve it.
Ben Tippett, one of the researchers, said, “ 100 it is mathematically feasible (可行的), it is not yet possible to build a space-time machine because we need materials — which we call exotic matter — to bend space-time in these impossible ways, but they have yet to be discovered.”

故填where。
故填and。
故填which。
故填gained/has gained。

Convenience vs Health: the Takeaway Dilemma (纠结)
Feeling hungry? If you’re feeling so, what’s the easiest way to satisfy your hunger? Many of us will reach 41 a takeaway menu and order some delicious, but possibly unhealthy food. And our increasingly busy lives add to our need to buy ready-made food.

91.that 92.what 93.is affected 94.till/until 95.like 96.will 97.more slowly 98.experimented 99.Although/Though/While 100.Although/Though/While
故填is affected。
由“the dip in the trampoline is like the curve in space-time”可知,空格处用like,句子表示“你就像一颗行星”。故填like。
故填more slowly。
由“it is mathematically feasible”和“it is not yet possible to build a space-time machine”可知,句子表示“虽然在数学上是可行的,但目前还不可能建造一台时空机器”,空格处意为“虽然”,是although/though/while,引导让步状语从句,位于句首,首字母大写,故填Although/Though/While。
