Kuala Lumpur Malaysia’s capital and largest city has much to offer travelers. Perhaps best known for the Petronas Twin Towers, KL is a very popular tourist destination (目的地). It is also considered one of the best shopping destinations in Southeast Asia. Its distinct, modern, Asian, and Malay architecture flows through the city, giving it a unique look you don’t usually find in other Southeast Asia capitals. George Town The older part has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site — but George Town is just as famous for its food as it is for its architecture. While George Town’s port and waterfront area is a tourist’s favorite, there’s much more to see and do here. The city’s tallest building is home to the U-shaped Rainbow Skywalk, an outdoor glass viewing platform (平台) set 68 floors up in the air. Gunung Mulu National Park The park attracts visitors from all over Asia who come here for the natural beauty that caused this place to be admitted on UNESCO World Heritage list. The park’s main attractions are, however, its caves and the millions of bats (蝙蝠). Sarawak Chamber is the largest cave in the world. Cameron Highlands The Cameron Highlands is a hilly region with a long tradition of tea growing on the mountainside. For an inside look into the agricultural and farming practices in Malaysia, the Mardi’s Agro Technology Park is an unexpectedly fun destination. Or visit The Time Tunnel, where you can see recreated rooms and shops from the early 20th century, play board games, and see photographs from pre-war days. 21. What do George Town and Gunung Mulu National Park have in common? A. The outdoor views are famous. B. Bats and caves are fascinating. C. They are recognized by UNESCO. D. They have many foods to choose from. 23. Which place best suits people who enjoy agriculture life? A. George Town. B. Cameron Highlands. C. Kuala Lumpur. D. Gunung Mulu National Park. B If it had not been for Fan Jinshi and her team, the world cultural heritage of Dunhuang Mogao Caves in a remote Chinese desert might have long been destroyed by sand, weather or humans. Born in Beijing and raised in Shanghai, Fan has spent half a century fighting an uphill battle to preserve the ancient Buddhist wall paintings at Dunhuang, in Northwest China’s Gansu Province. The 1,653-year-old Dunhuang Mogao Caves are a huge collection of Buddhist art—more than 2,000 buddha figures and 45,000 square metres of paintings spread among 735 caves. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Archaeologist Fan was sent to Dunhuang after graduating from Peking University in 1963. While in Dunhuang, a remote village in the desert then, Fan lived in an abandoned temple. At first, she did not even dare to go out to the toilet at night. To protect the treasures from sand and dampness, Fan and other workers put doors on the caves, planted trees and started monitoring temperature and humidity in the caves. They also controlled the number of visitors. In the late 1990s, with tourism booming nationwide since national holidays were extended, the local government planned to go public with Dunhuang Mogao Caves, but found Fan firmly in_their_way. “The heritage would have been destroyed if it had been listed,” she said. Dunhuang Academy has now photographed and cataloged online all the sculptures and paintings. “Despite our efforts to minimise damage, we can’t completely stop them from being eroded. But the digital database will last.” Fan was grateful when her husband joined her in Dunhuang in 1986 after 19 years of separation. Her two sons grew up seldom with her accompany. “I have not been a good mother or wife. With regard to my family, I’m full of guilt,” she said. Fan, 81, retired four years ago as the director of Dunhuang Academy but continues her efforts as a national political adviser. 24. When was Fan separated from her husband? A. In 1963. B. In 1967. C. In 1986. D. In the late 1990s. 25. What does the phrase “in their way” in Paragraph 4 mean? A. Go to a place. B. Be in favour of something. C. Reject something. D. Give in to something. 26 What is the passage mainly about? A. The history of Dunhuang Mogao Caves. B. The attractions of Dunhuang Mogao Caves. C. Fan’s devotion to preserving Dunhuang Mogao Caves. D. The appeal for the protection of Dunhuang Mogao Caves. 27. What kind of person do you think Fan is? A. Considerate. B. Kind. C. Humorous. D. Devoted. C "We are running out of space and the only places to go to are other worlds. ... Spreading out may be the only thing that saves us from ourselves. I am convinced that humans need to leave Earth" These are the words of the famous scientist Stephen Hawking. Hawking was not alone in this view. Many experts feel that the only way for humans to last far into the future is to colonize (殖民) other planets. That way, if an asteroid (小行星), a terrible discase, or some other disaster strikes Earth, we would still have a chance. Mars is one of the best choices. NASA, the private company SpaceX,and other organizations all have plans to send humans there. "Either we spread Earth to other planets, or we go out of existence,” SpaceX founder Elon Musk said. But not everyone agrees that colonizing Mars or any other planet is such a great plan. The most common argument against going is that it's just too expensive or dangerous. It will take huge amounts of money and other resources just to get people there, let alone set up a place for them to live. It's not even clear if humans could survive on Mars. Maybe all the time and money people would pour into a Mars task would be better spent on more important projects here on Earth, like dealing with poverty or climate change. Some experts argue that handling a problem like an asteroid strike or disease outbreak while staying here on Earth would be much easier and less expensive than surviving on a new planet. In addition, moving to a new planet could harm or destroy anything that already lives there. Mars seems uninhabited, but it could possibly host some life. Human visitors may destroy this life or change the Martian environment forever. What do you think? Should humans colonize outer space or stay at home? 28. In writing Paragraph 1, the author aims to________ A. provide an explanation B. make a comparison C. reach a conclusion D. introduce a topic 29. In Paragraph 2, many experts recommend colonizing Mars in order to ________. A. protect humans from dying out B. make Hawking's dream come true C. seek more space for humans to live in D. encourage different organizations to compete 30. For what reason are some scientists against colonizing Mars? A. Out of space, out of mind. B. Money should be well spent. C. East or west, home is the best. D. One should mind his own business. 31. What’s the author's attitude towards colonizing Mars? A. Confident. B. Doubtful. C. Objective. D. Supportive. D Chimps use loud calls and gestures to make their feelings known but until now, the exact meaning for individual movements has remained a mystery. Now researchers believe they have translated the key gestures used in the chimp community and identified their intentions for the first time. From 4,351 gestures, experts were able to identify 66 that are used for 19 specific message meanings, including showing a foot to tell a child they can climb on their back. The researchers were able to narrow down these 66 gestures to 36 that are used intentionally to achieve 15 purposes. The translations were made by Dr Catherine Hobaiter and her colleagues at St Andrews University in Scotland. Dr Hobaiter used behavior sampling and filmed all recorded cases of gestural communication. Other gestures include stomping their feet to ask another chimp to stop what they are doing, and slapping objects together to ask another to follow them. Of the 19 meanings,17 encouraged interactions to start, or to develop, such as “move closer,” and “change play”. Some of the gestures were found to have more than one meaning. and only 10 of the 66 gestures were used for only a single meaning. Researchers collected a total of 471 video clips from two social groups of chimps at a shelter near Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. As well as identifying what the gesture means, they also discovered the technique needed to increase the chances of success. “Human children use gestures to communicate before they produce their first words, and their earliest gestures typically appear around 10 months of age,” explained the researchers. “In great apes, there is good evidence that language-trained individuals are capable of acquiring and understanding signals, but this is far less clear in their natural communication. ” 32. Chimps slap the objects to____________. A. tell others to stop what they are doing B. ask others chimps to join them C. gather other chimps to move closer D. encourage interactions to start 33. What did researchers find after studying 471 video clips? A. Chimps trained in language are good at understanding signals. B. Two social groups of chimps live at a shelter near Kinshasa. C. Language-trained individuals do well in natural communication. D. Chimps’earliest gestures appear around 10 months of age. 34. How is the last paragraph developed? A. By analyzing causes. B. By examining differences. C. By making comparisons. D. By following time order. 35. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. A New Research on Chimps B. Human Children and Chimps C. Getting the Chimps Trained for Language D. But Aamir, a homeless Indian boy, doubted it. Wandering the noisy railway platform, he found one of his flip-flops (人字拖鞋) broken again. He hurried to a corner, sat down and tried to fix it, his bare foot pressing awkwardly against the ground. However, it was beyond repair. He gave up and looked around aimlessly staring at people’s shoes. Suddenly, his eyes were drawn to two boyish legs wearing perfectly white socks and equally perfect black leather (皮) shoes, which were shining in the mid-day sun. It was a boy of his age. He treasured his shoes so much, obviously, because every ten seconds, he stopped, bent down and carefully wiped his shoes. His father was constantly glancing over and saying, “Hurry up! The train is coming!” Aamir’s eyes followed the father and son, but mostly the beautiful shoes, as if enchanted (被施魔法的). Imagining himself wearing them, the comfort from the good leather, jaw-dropping look on his friends’ faces, he couldn’t help cracking a big smile. The bell of the train drew him back; the fancy-shoe boy and his father were about to get aboard. They tried to crowd into the doorway. However, the instant the boy entered the compartment (车厢), one of his shoes fell off and before he could pick it up, the train began to pull away. The shoe was now lying alone on the platform. Aamir’s eyes lit up with excitement. Like an arrow, he shot for the shoe and then picked it up, holding it with both hands as if holding the Queen’s crown. After a few seconds of hesitating and looking from the shoe to the train and back, he began racing--with only one good shoe, his flip-flop. He held the leather shoe up, trying to pass it to the boy through the window, who was desperately reaching out his hand as well. However, it was never close enough. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 That left Aamir no choice but to throw the shoe onto the train. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ To his surprise, Aamir saw the other shoe thrown out of the window. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 机密★考试结束前 【考试时间:11月5日8:00—10:00】 昆明市第三中学高2026届高二年级上学期期中考试 英语试卷 注意事项: 1. Which part of the house has been repaired? M: I know, and all because there’s that tiny hole in the back. How lucky! W: Yes, you found it at the perfect time too. Our old one was really falling apart. I think all four legs were about to break. I was afraid to sit on it. M: And it was covered in spots from your drink! You’re messier than a schoolchild. I’m never buying white furniture again. W: I promise I’ll be really careful with this new one. I won’t have anything but water around it. M: You’d better not, or else I’ll have to buy another sofa just for you. W: Hey, I’m not that messy! M: OK, let’s just see how our living room looks in a week and I’ll tell you if you’re messy or not. 听下面一段独白,回答以下小题。【此处可播放相关音频,请去附件查看】 17. What should you focus on for the introduction? A. About twenty minutes. C. Less than two minutes. 19. What is the time limit for impressing someone? A. Within 30 seconds. B. Within 60 seconds. C. Within 120 seconds. 20. What is the purpose of the talk? A. To stress the importance of resumes. B. To give tips about self-introduction. C. To explain a recent scientific research. 【答案】17. C 18. C 19. A 20. B 【解析】 【原文】Everyone knows how to introduce themselves, right? It’s just like those name labels used at networking events, “Hello, my name is…” Unfortunately, a lot of job seekers have a tough time going beyond a basic introduction. Sure, they can chat about where they grew up or their favorite book or movie, but it can be very helpful to say something smart and relevant about their job interests. Are you confident about your skills? Are you ready to use them the next time someone asks what you’re looking for? While usual wisdom suggests you prepare a two-minute self-introduction, most introductions don’t last two minutes, and that’s usually too long to hold people’s attention. Instead, you should think about how to share some information about yourself quickly and simply, so you don’t lose your target audience’s attention. If you can’t introduce yourself to a potential contact in 30 seconds or less, you may miss some important opportunities to impress someone important. Effectively introducing yourself is very important for you to find a job. You should prepare for it ahead of time. 第二部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分50分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分) 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题纸上将该项涂黑。 A Malaysia is a country of contrasts — a mix of different architecture, attractive parks and modern tall buildings, and a unique landscape. 21. What makes Kuala Lumpur different from other capitals in Southeast Asia? A. Architectural style. B. Popularity. C. Number of visitors. D. Shopping places. 22. 【答案】21. A 22. In the late 1990s with tourism booming nationwide since national holidays were extended, the local government planned to go public with Dunhuang Mogao Caves, but found Fan firmly in_their_way. 26. What is the passage mainly about? B. Kind. C. Humorous. D. Devoted. 【答案】24. B 25. C 26. C 27. A. Confident. B. Doubtful. C. Objective. D. Supportive. 【答案】28. D 29. A 30. B 31. C. There are many different ways you can dig deeper into your personality, and this article will walk you through some of the best to help you get started. 1. Identify your morals ____37____. Many call this their “inner voice” or conscience. When you understand your moral codes, you may feel good and pleased. When you don’t listen, your “inner voice” may make you feel guilty, uncomfortable, or anxious. 2. Recognize your values Values are the big ideas that shape your decisions. These ideas are broad goals like having financial security, being close to family, or staying healthy. ____38____, when you can acknowledge your values. This will increase the likelihood that you meet your goals and lead a happy life. 3. ____39____ While your values are the motivation behind your goals, your passions can provide the focus needed to reach them. You will know you are passionate about something if it holds your interest for extended periods of time. If you build a career (or even a hobby) around these passions, you will remain happier and more fulfilled than if you neglect them. 4. Get feedback Ask your friends and family how they see your personality. ____40____. If they match, it is likely that you display these traits consistently. If several friends have very different views on your personality, you should examine your beliefs about yourself. A. Know how to maintain passion B. Know what you are passionate about C. You can set goals that fit your personality D. Learning more about your personality is fun E. You have to spend a lot of time making complex choices F. Everyone has a sense of what they know is right and wrong G. Compare what they say to how you feel about your personality 【答案】36. D 37. F 38. C 39. B 40. G 【解析】 【导语】本文是说明文。这篇文章主要介绍了如何更深入地了解自己的个性,包括认清自己的道德观、价值观、激情,并寻求反馈等方法。 【36题详解】 根据前文“Who doesn’t love taking interesting personality quizzes and comparing the results with their friends?(谁不喜欢做有趣的性格测试,并将结果与朋友们进行比较呢?)”提到人们喜欢做有趣的性格测试并与朋友比较结果,接着说“and besides it can also be a helpful way to understand yourself better, make smarter decisions that set you up for success, and improve your relationships.(除此之外,它还可以帮助你更好地了解自己,做出更明智的决定,为你的成功奠定基础,改善你的人际关系)”,意思是除了有趣之外,这还是一种更好地了解自己的有益方式。因此,D选项“Learning more about your personality is fun(更多了解你的个性很有趣)”与上下文相符,既承接上文提到的性格测试的乐趣,又引出下文了解自己个性的重要性。故选D项。 【37题详解】 本段标题是“Identify your morals(认清你的道德观)”,说明每个人都有对是非的判断。F选项“Everyone has a sense of what they know is right and wrong(每个人都有对是非的感知)”直接对应这一点,强调了每个人都有自己内在的道德准则或“良知”。故选F项。 【38题详解】 根据前文“Values are the big ideas that shape your decisions. These ideas are broad goals like having financial security, being close to family, or staying healthy.(价值观是影响你做出决定的重要理念。这些想法是广泛的目标,比如经济安全、与家人亲近或保持健康)”可知,本段讨论的是认识自己的价值观,并指出这些价值观会影响决策和目标设定,所以C项“You can set goals that fit your personality(你就可以设定符合你个性的目标)”与这一点相吻合,意味着了解自己的价值观后,可以据此设定更符合自己个性和期望的目标。故选C项。 【39题详解】 分析设空,为本段小标题,是对本段的高度概括,根据后文“While your values are the motivation behind your goals, your passions can provide the focus needed to reach them. You will know you are passionate about something if it holds your interest for extended periods of time. If you build a career (or even a hobby) around these passions, you will remain happier and more fulfilled than if you neglect them.(虽然你的价值观是你目标背后的动力,但你的激情可以提供实现目标所需的注意力。 Mary thought she had seen it all when it came to horse behavior, but Stardust made her ____41____. He gave up and looked around aimlessly, staring at people’s shoes. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】That left Aamir no choice but to throw the shoe onto the train. With his eyes fixed on the window, Aamir put all his strength in his right hand and made a powerful throw. However, he abruptly fell off because of the broken flip-flop. Without a second thought, he tried again, the shoe just flew past the window frame and fell on the platform like a dead leaf. Seeing this, Aamir stamped his feet, wearing a frustrated look. “Are shoes really made for walking?” Aamir thought with depression. He drooped his head, not knowing what to do next. To his surprise, Aamir saw the other shoe thrown out of the window. Miraculously, it landed on the platform several steps away from him. Before he could look up again and seek out the fancy-shoe boy, the train sped on, vanishing in the distance. What remained in sight was the meandering rail track and the rolling mountains far away. Twenty years later, when he was launching his new footwear product at a press conference, wearing a pair of shining leather shoes, Aamir started his presentation with a simple sentence: “Shoes are made for walking.” 词汇激活 行为类 ①固定:fix on/focus on ②掉下来:fall off/drop off ③下垂:droop/lower ④消失:vanish/disappear/gone 情感类 ①有力的:powerful/strong/hefty ②沮丧的:frustrated/dispirited/depressed/disheartened/disappointed ③奇迹般地:miraculously/amazingly/surprisingly 【点睛】【高分句型1】With his eyes fixed on the window, Aamir put all his strength in his right hand and made a powerful throw.(使用了with复合结构伴状语) 【高分句型2】Before he could look up again and seek out the fancy-shoe boy, the train sped on, vanishing in the distance.(使用了before引导时间状语从句和现在分词作状语) 【高分句型3】What remained in sight was the meandering rail track and the rolling mountains far away.(使用了what引导主语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
