Whether you are hoping to relax or you are looking forward to staying active in vacation, seeking out great hikes is a good choice. If you are planning a trip to southern California, or you live in San Diego, now it is time to search for new hiking trails (路线). Here are some of the most popular hikes in San Diego.
Cedar Greek Falls
For this hike, you’ll hike from the Cedar Creek Falls to the Devil’s Punch Bowl, which is a pool at the base of Cedar Greek Falls. It can really heat up in the summer, and it is hard to hike, so be sure to pack lots of water and protein-filled snacks.
Cuyamaca Peak (顶峰)
The peak is in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park and you’ll see plenty of snow-capped trees if you do this hike in the winter. There are 37 trails in the state park, but you’ll want to stick to Azalea Glen Loop. It’s a difficult sever mile hike that will bring you right to Cuyamaca Peak.
Cowles Mountain
It is well known that Cowles Mountain is the highest point in San Diego—so it’s worth visiting for the fact that you can see Mexico from the peak. The three-mile hike is quite difficult. If you are willing to wake up before the sun, Cowles Mountain is a beautiful spot to watch the sunrise. It's one of San Diego’s most popular hikes, so starting early might also help avoid the crowds.
Swami’s Beach
Take the trail from Swami’s Beach to Cardiff Beach and you will experience impressive ocean views and the smooth sound of waves crashing onto the sand. As an easy out-and-back hike, the path is accessible (可进入的) from Swami’s Beach and is about three miles in total.
1. What do you need to take if you choose the Cedar Greek Falls?
A. A raincoat. B. An umbrella.
C. Food and water. D. A hat and a map.
2. What is Cowles Mountain famous for?
A. The difficult hiking trail. B. Being the peak in San Diego.
C. The great restaurant. D. The great length of the trail.
3. Which hiking trail will you choose if you want to see the sea?
A. Cedar Greek Falls. B. Cuyamaca Peak.
C. Cowles Mountain. D. Swami’s Beach.

It’s funny—as a writer, it’s easy to share your knowledge, or your personal stories with an unknown listener of many. You think your friends and family may not read your articles. But as I began to talk more openly about Chinese traditions and food, I learned that they were interested, curious and really hungered for it. Their interest and curiosity grew and the culmination of their interest and curiosity was this past Spring Festival. They would like to spend the Spring Festival with me. It was an inconvenient Monday. I’d never had the Spring Festival when anyone but my father cooked.
I took the day off work in a madness of last-minute preparation. I drove 45 minutes out of town to a Cantonese BBQ shop where I bought a whole roast duck (烤鸭) and watched, fascinated, as it was changed into bite sizes. I shopped at a faraway international market like madwoman, looking for Chinese vegetables and other foods that would be new for my guests I called my dad, asking for six-second pointers on how to make dishes I’d never made. I texted him pictures of the sea fish I picked out, and the red clothing they threw on for luck.
In just a few hours, I cooked a dinner of 15 dishes for six friends who cared enough about me and my culture to come over on a cold winter Monday night to celebrate my tradition with me. We drank, ate and toasted the beautiful night. And that night, I felt what it was to be loved for my culture as well as our food.
4. What does the underlined word “culmination” mean in paragraph 1?
A. Top. B. Celebration. C. Tradition. D. Trouble.
5. What did the author do in the BBQ shop?
A. She ate a whole roast duck. B. She took a roast duck.
C. She asked to cook a duck herself. D. She took beautiful photos of the duck.
6. What does the second paragraph mainly talk about?
A. The shops the author went to. B. The author’s love of Chinese food.
C. The author’s preparation for dinner. D. The suggestions the author’s father gave.
7. What can we say about the author from the text?
A. She is living with her father. B. She is a madwoman.
C. She is a world famous writer. D. She is proud of Chinese culture.
A 5. B 6. C 7. D
根据第一段第三句“But as I began to talk more openly about Chinese traditions and food, I learned that they were interested, curious and really hungered for it.”(但是当我开始更开放地谈论中国传统和食物时,我了解到他们对此感兴趣,好奇并且真的渴望)可知,她发现朋友很感兴趣,且这种兴趣在增长,并在春节时达到了顶峰,可猜测culmination,意为“顶峰”故选A项。
根据第二段第二句“I drove 45 minutes out of town to a Cantonese BBQ shop where I bought a whole roast duck (烤鸭) and watched, fascinated, as it was changed into bite sizes.”(我开车45分钟到镇外的一家烧烤店,在那里我买了一整只烤鸭,出神地看者它被变成小块)可知,作者在一家广东烧腊店买了一只烤鸭。
根据本文最后两句“We drank, ate and toasted the beautiful night. And that night, I felt what it was to be loved for my culture as well as our food.”(我们喝酒庆祝那个美丽的夜晚。
C
By now we all know the importance of drinking enough water throughout the day, but there is such a thing as too much. Earlier this summer, a 35-year-old Indiana woman, died from water toxicity(毒性作用) after drinking too much water in a short period of time, according to a local news report.
While drinking enough water is important, overdoing it can lead to low levels of sodium(钠) in the blood, which can be life-threatening, according to Julia Zumpano, an expert at Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Human Nutrition.
Exactly how much is enough for our body depends on a variety of factors, including our weight, age, location and overall health. People in poor health, or active people such as athletes, are at risk of water toxicity, as they tend to drink large amounts of water and lose sodium through their sweat. So are women and children because of their smaller body size.
While the gold standard for many years has been eight glasses of 8 ounces(盎司) of water per day, the National Academy of Medicine suggests enough water intake is about 125 ounces for men and about 91 ounces for women. And it recommends not drinking more than 48 ounces of water per hour. This includes total water from fruits, vegetables and other drinks besides water.
If you struggle with getting enough water per day, you can try water bottles to help track your water intake. Eating fruits and vegetables can also increase our water intake. You could experiment with adding flavor to improve the taste of your water.
“Most people had better keep drinking water throughout the day, but larger amounts may be needed in the heat for an extended period of time or during exercise. If you are thirsty water—listen to your body. But don’t overdo it,” says Zumpano.
8. How does the author introduce the topic of the text?
A. By giving an example. B. By showing the findings.
C. By making a comparison. D. By putting up a question.
9. What effect may drinking too much water have on us?
A. Putting on weight. B. Speeding up aging.
C. Cutting sodium in blood. D. Making us more active.
10. What do we know from paragraph 4?
A. We must drink less than 48 ounces of water a day.
B. Women can take in more water than men an hour.
C. We can take in little water from fruits and vegetables.
D. We’d better drink about 64 ounces of water every day.
11. What can be the best title for the text?
A. What is the result of water toxicity?
B. How much water is too much water?
C. Why do you find it difficult to drink enough water?
D. How often need we remind ourselves to drink water?
A 9. C 10. D 11. B
第一段首句“By now we all know the importance of drinking enough water throughout the day, but there is such a thing as too much.(到目前为止,我们都知道一天中喝足够的水的重要性,但也有喝水太多的问题。)”首先提出了喝水过多会有不良后果,接着“Earlier this summer, a 35-year-old Indiana woman, died from water toxicity(毒性作用) after drinking too much water in a short period of time, according to a local news report.(据当地新闻报道,今年夏天早些时候,一名35岁的印第安纳州妇女因短时间内饮水过多而死于水中毒。)” 故选A。
根据第二段中的“While drinking enough water is important, overdoing it can lead to low levels of sodium(钠) in the blood(虽然喝足够的水很重要,但过量喝水会导致血液中的钠含量过低)”可知,喝水过多会导致血液中的钠含量降低。
根据第四段中的“While the gold standard for many years has been eight glasses of 8 ounces(盎司) of water per day, the National Academy of Medicine suggests enough water intake is about 125 ounces for men and about 91 ounces for women.(虽然多年来的黄金标准一直是每天8杯8盎司的水,但美国国家医学院建议,男性的足够摄入水量约为125盎司,女性约为91盎司。)”
D
Nowadays, children spend less time in the fresh air. Many of them are addicted to a screen either on a computer or a TV—they seem to be living in a virtual world. They have lost touch with nature.
But now 400 organizations in the UK, from playgroups to the National Health Service, are encouraging children to have some “wild time”. They want kids to swap at least 30 minutes of watching TV or playing computer games for time playing outside. Activities such as building dens, climbing trees, rummaging for conkers and playing hide and seek are just some of the things kids can do. Even if they live in a city, they can go on adventures in the garden or the park.
Children often need a helping hand from mum and dad. They need to be shown what to do and where to go. Andy Simpson from National Health Service says, “We want parents to see what this magical wonder product does for their kids’ development, independence and creativity, by giving wild time a go.”
So despite the complicated world that young people grow up in now, it seems that going back to basics and experiencing “nature’s playground” is what modern children need. David Bond from Project Wild Thing says, “We need to make more space for wild time in children’s daily routine, freeing this generation of kids to have the sort of experiences that many of us took for granted.”
This might sound a bit old-fashioned to you or maybe, like me, it’s made you think about sticking on your boots, getting outdoors and reliving your childhood. There’s no age limit on enjoying yourself!
12. What makes children lose touch with nature?
A. Playing hide and seek. B. Going on adventures in parks.
C. Building dens frequently. D. Being addicted to a screen.
13. In Andy Simpson’s opinion, who should be persuaded to see the effect of wild time?
A. Teachers. B. Parents. C. Children. D. Experts.
14. What might David probably agree?
A. What modern children need is spiritual satisfaction.
B. Children always take it for granted to play outside.
C. Children need more time to get close to nature.
D. Parents should make larger rooms for kids to study.
15. What can be inferred from this passage?
A. People at any age can enjoy wild time. B. Watching TV is a good way to learn about nature.
C. Everyone lives in a high-pressure world. D. Adults all desire to go back to childhood.
D 13. B 14. C 15. A
根据第一段中“Nowadays, children spend less time in the fresh air. Many of them are addicted to a screen either on a computer or a TV—they seem to be living in a virtual world. They have lost touch with nature.(如今,孩子们接触新鲜空气的时间越来越少了。他们中的许多人沉迷于电脑或电视屏幕——他们似乎生活在一个虚拟的世界里。他们与大自然失去了联系。)”可知,孩子们之所以接触自然的时间越来越少,是因为很多孩子沉迷于电脑或者电视屏幕。故选D。
【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中“Andy Simpson from National Health Service says, “We want parents to see what this magical wonder product does for their kids’ development, independence and creativity, by giving wild time a go.”(国家卫生服务机构的Andy Simpson说:“我们希望家长们尝试一下这种神奇的户外活动对孩子的发展、独立性和创造力能带来的好处。”)”
根据倒数第二段中“David Bond from Project Wild Thing says, “We need to make more space for wild time in children’s daily routine, freeing this generation of kids to have the sort of experiences that many of us took for granted.”(来自“野性计划”的David Bond说:“我们需要在孩子们的日常生活中为狂野留出更多的空间,让这一代孩子有机会体验我们许多人认为理所当然的事情。”)”
根据最后一段中“This might sound a bit old-fashioned to you or maybe, like me, it’s made you think about sticking on your boots, getting outdoors and reliving your childhood. There’s no age limit on enjoying yourself!(这对你来说可能听起来有点过时,或者像我一样,这让你想到穿上靴子,到户外去,重温童年。享受生活没有年龄限制!)”可知,到户外去,重温童年,享受生活没有年龄限制即任何年龄的人都可以享受狂野的时光。故选A。
How to Write a Movie Review
Whether it’s for pleasure or a job requirement, writing a good movie review can be a useful exercise. ___16___ If you’ve recently watched a film and want to share your opinions about it, here are some tips to help you compose a wonderful movie review.
Follow your main text with a short plot summary. It’s good to give readers an idea of the movie you’re reviewing. Give a brief summary of the main characters, the setting and the central conflict of the movie. Never break the number one rule of movie reviews: don’t give too much away. ___17___
Move into your analysis of the movie. Write several paragraphs discussing the interesting elements in the movie that support your points. Discuss the acting, the direction, the cinematography and the setting, keeping your writing clear and easy to understand. ___18___
Use plenty of examples to back up your points. If you make a statement about the movie, back it up with a descriptive example. Describe the way scenes look, the way a certain person acted, camera angles, and so on. ___19___ In this way you are giving your readers a feel of the movie and continuing to express your comments on the film at the same time.
___20___. You could treat your review like a formal college essay. But it’s more interesting if you make it your own. If your writing style is usually humorous or interesting, your review should be no exception. If you’re serious or dramatic, that works, too. Let your language and writing style reflect your unique view and personality — it’s much more entertaining for the readers.
A. Give it some personality.
B. Don’t ruin the movie for your readers.
C. It is necessary to keep a humorous writing style.
D. You should first watch enough movies on your own.
E. You can use dialogues to help you express your views.
F. So don’t use too many technical terms about film making.
G. It allows you to explore your personal connection with a film.
G 17. B 18. F 19. E 20. A
根据空前内容“Whether it’s for pleasure or a job requirement, writing a good movie review can be a useful exercise.(无论是为了娱乐还是工作需要,写一篇好的电影评论都是一个有用的练习)”可知,前句讲述的是会写影评是很有用的。选项G“It allows you to explore your personal connection with a film.(它可以让你探索你与电影的个人联系)”是上文内容的自然延续,讲述的是会写影评会让你建立和电影的联系。故选G。
根据空前内容“Give a brief summary of the main characters, the setting and the central conflict of the movie. Never break the number one rule of movie reviews: don’t give too much away.(对电影的主要人物、背景和中心冲突作一个简短的总结。永远不要打破电影评论的第一条规则:不要透露太多)”可知,我们可以对电影做一个简短的总结,但是不要剧透太多。选项B“Don’t ruin the movie for your readers.(别毁了你的读者对电影的兴趣)”是上文内容的自然延续,指的是剧透不要太多,否则读者对已知剧情的电影会不感兴趣。故选B。
【18题详解】
根据空前内容“Move into your analysis of the movie. Write several paragraphs discussing the interesting elements in the movie that support your points. Discuss the acting, the direction, the cinematography and the setting, keeping your writing clear and easy to understand.(进入你对这部电影的分析。写几段话,讨论电影中支持你观点的有趣元素。讨论表演,导演,摄影和背景,保持你的写作清晰易懂)”可知,上文指出在对电影进行分析时,要让自己的写作清晰易懂。选项F“So don’t use too many technical terms about film making.(所以不要用太多关于电影制作的专业术语)”是上文内容的自然延续,要让写作清晰易懂则不要使用太多关于电影制作的专业术语。故选F。
根据空后内容“In this way you are giving your readers a feel of the movie and continuing to express your comments on the film at the same time.(通过这种方式,你给你的读者一种电影的感觉,同时继续表达你对电影的评论)”可推断出,空处指的是一种方式,这种方式既给读者一种电影的感觉同时还能表达对电影的评论。选项E“You can use dialogues to help you express your views.(你可以用对话来表达你的观点)”提出可以用对话表达观点,这样的确既让自己的影评有电影的感觉,同时又能表达自己的观点。
根据下文“You could treat your review like a formal college essay. But it’s more interesting if you make it your own. If your writing style is usually humorous or interesting, your review should be no exception. If you’re serious or dramatic, that works, too. Let your language and writing style reflect your unique view and personality — it’s much more entertaining for the readers.(你可以把你的评论当作正式的大学论文。但如果你把它变成你自己的,会更有趣。如果你的写作风格通常是幽默或有趣的,你的评论也不例外。如果你是严肃的或戏剧性的,这也有用。让你的语言和写作风格反映出你独特的观点和个性——这对读者来说更有趣)”可知,本段主要讲述的是如果能让影评个性化,反映出自己独特的观点,那就更好了。选项A“Give it some personality.(给它一些个性)”所提出的建议正是让影评个性化。故选A。

When I worked as a nurse, I was on day duty while my workmates were on night duty. On one shift, I sensed something just before going off duty at 11 am. I put down the tray(托盘) on the table and suddenly it fell off the table. At first I thought I had accidentally knocked it over, but then I felt the whole building shaking and heard patients were screaming.
I realized that an earthquake was happening. I quickly caught hold of a nearby patient, who was terribly frightened and pushed her under a bed. And then, I got under another bed myself. As soon as the earthquake stopped, I decided to try and get the patient safely outside. I carried her out and helped her down to the grassland, where several other people had gathered.
Afraid that my other workmates were in danger, I went back inside the building again. When I met Lucy ,our ward sister(护士长),I found her patient couldn't walk. We made a seat for the patient by linking our hands and arms, and carried her outside together. We went back through the building to check no one was left behind in our ward(病房).
Just then, we saw that a man doctor was calling for volunteers to go down to other wards with him to help more people. So we went together. The doctor went ahead of us and found one of the nurses partially covered with rubble(碎石),luckily still alive. Suddenly, the aftershock (余震)struck and the doctor ordered us to leave. The brave doctor intended to stay alone and risk his own life to save the nurse.

Paragraph 2: Later in the afternoon, I had time to look around and saw some destroyed buildings.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
However, without any hesitation, we made up our minds to stay with the doctor and save the nurse together. The doctor encouraged the trapped nurse to stay calm, and in the meanwhile ,we focused our efforts on removing the bricks and the rubble that trapped her body. However, sometimes we were faced with falling rubble from time to time, despite which we continued. Gradually and slowly, we lifted the nurse out of the rubble. The doctor put the nurse on his back and walked out of the building with the help of us. Finally, all, including patients, nurses and doctors, were in the safe place.
Later in the afternoon, I I had time to look around and saw the some destroyed buildings. My beautiful workplace lay beyond recognition, even some in ruins. At the sight of this, I felt a weight in my chest. Suddenly, the gentle wind danced around me, which made me thought of all the people surviving the earthquake with our help. It was our teamwork that made a difference. I held the firm belief that some day in the future my workplace would came back to life and took on a new look, where we would continue working together to save more patients.

The peak is in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, and you’ll see plenty of snow-capped trees if you do this hike in the winter.

C. Food and water. D. A hat and a map.
2. What is Cowles Mountain famous for?
A. The difficult hiking trail. B. Being the peak in San Diego.

A Give it some personality.
