17.What sports does the speaker like?

A.Dangerous. B.Exciting. C.Safe.
20.What will happen if you fall while on skis?
A.We may have a cold.
B.We may have a stomachache.
C.We may break our bones.
【答案】17.A 18.B 19.A 20.C
M: Hello, everyone. My name is Donald. I’d like to talk about two sports I like. I love to ski and snowboard. I am 17 years old, and I have been skiing since I was five, and snowboarding since I was eight. In my opinion, snowboarding is more fun than skiing. The ski poles make it very simple to change my direction. There are no poles in snowboarding, however, so when you snowboard, you have to understand the snow very well to make sure you don’t fall. The feeling I get while I’m snowboarding is more exciting than when I’m skiing, because I like having less control. I enjoy the challenge. Many people think that the reduced amount of control in snowboarding makes the sport more dangerous. But in my opinion snowboarding is actually safer than skiing, because when you ski, you’re standing on two skis. If you fall while on skis, it is very easy to break your bones by getting your skis stuck in the snow. On a snowboard, your legs stay together even when you fall.
A
In the summer of 2016, I gave a talk at a small conference in northern Virginia. I began by admitting that I’d never had a social-media account; I then outlined arguments for why other people should consider removing social media from their lives. The event organizers uploaded the video of my talk to YouTube. Then it was shared repeatedly on Facebook and Instagram and, eventually, viewed more than five million times. I was both pleased and annoyed by the fact that my anti-social-media talk had found such a large audience on social media.
I think of this event as typical of the love-hate relationships many of us have with Facebook, Instagram, and other social-media platforms. On the one hand, we’ve grown cautious about the so-called attention economy, which, in the name of corporate(公司的)profits, destroys social life gradually and offends privacy. But we also benefit from social media and hesitate to break away from it completely. Not long ago, I met a partner at a large law firm in Washington, D.C., who told me that she keeps Instagram on her phone because she misses her kids when she travels; looking through pictures of them makes her feel better.
In recent months, some of the biggest social-media companies, Facebook and Twitter, in particular, have promised various reforms. In March, Mark Zuckerberg announced a plan to move his platform toward private communication protected by end-to-end encryption(端对端加密); later that month, he put forward the establishment of a third-party group to set standards for acceptable content.
All of these approaches assume that the reformation of social media will be a complex, lengthy, and gradual process. But not everyone sees it that way. Alongside these official responses, a loose collective of developers that calls itself the Indie Web has been creating another alternative. They are developing their own social-media platforms, which they say will preserve what’s good about social media while getting rid of what’s bad. They hope to rebuild social media according to principles that are less corporate and more humane(人道的).
21.Why did the author feel annoyed when his video was spread online?
A.His video caused many arguments.
B.His video’s popularity on social media is against his talk.
C.His talk was opposed by a large amount of people.
D.His video was shared without his permission.
22.Why does the author mention the story of his partner in paragraph 2?
A.To prove that social media has some benefits.
B.To advise people to break away from social media.
C.To tell the negative effects social media may produce.
D.To describe people’s complicated relationships with social media.
23.What is the purpose of the reform made by some social-media companies?
A.To improve network environment. B.To set network standards.
C.To make more profits. D.To provide more convenient service.
24.What does the Indie Web intend to do?
A.Improve the existing social-media principles.
B.Remove social media from people’s lives.
C.Develop new social-media platforms.
D.Help social-media companies to make reformation.
25.What does the underlined word “outlined”(in paragraph 1)mean?
A.expected B.criticized C.summarized D.rejected
21.B 22.A 23.A 24.C 25.C
根据第一段的“I was both pleased and annoyed by the fact that my anti-social-media talk had found such a large audience on social media. (我的反社交媒体演讲在社交媒体上找到了如此多的听众,这让我既高兴又恼火)”可知,作者反对社交媒体,但是他有关的演讲却在社交媒体上获得喜欢,这让作者又喜又怒,很是矛盾。因此可知作者生气的原因是他的演讲视频的受欢迎程度是与他反社交媒体的行为相对立的。故选B项。
22.推理判断题。根据第二段的“But we also benefit from social media and hesitate to break away from it completely. Not long ago, I met a partner at a large law firm in Washington, D.C., who told me that she keeps Instagram on her phone because she misses her kids when she travels; looking through pictures of them makes her feel better. (但我们也受益于社交媒体,并犹豫是否要完全脱离它。不久前,我在华盛顿特区的一家大型律师事务所遇到了一位合伙人,她告诉我,她一直在手机上保存Instagram,因为她在旅行时会想念她的孩子;浏览他们的照片让她感觉更好)”可知,作者认为我们其实也受益于社交媒体,就如作者的一个合伙人,通过使用社交媒体来看孩子的照片。因此作者举例的目的是为了证明社交媒体的好处。故选A项。
根据第三段中的“In March, Mark Zuckerberg announced a plan to move his platform toward private communication protected by end-to-end encryption(端对端加密); later that month, he put forward the establishment of a third-party group to set standards for acceptable content. 故选A项。
根据最后一段的“Alongside these official responses, a loose collective of developers that calls itself the Indie Web has been creating another alternative. They are developing their own social-media platforms, which they say will preserve what’s good about social media while getting rid of what’s bad.(除了这些官方回应,一个自称为独立网络的松散的开发者群体一直在创造另一种选择。他们正在开发自己的社交媒体平台,他们说这将保留社交媒体的优点,同时去除缺点)”可知,Indie Web想要开发他们自己社交媒体平台,这样他们可以保留好的内容和去除不好的内容。故选C项。
25.词句猜测题。根据第一段的“I began by admitting that I’d never had a social-media account; I then outlined arguments for why other people should consider removing social media from their lives.(我开始承认我从未有过社交媒体账户;然后,我outlined了为什么其他人应该考虑将社交媒体从他们的生活中移除的理由)”可知,作者没有社交媒体账号,他反对使用社交媒体,因此可知他总结一些观点来说明为什么其他人可以要考虑将社交媒体移出他们的生活,故可推断划线词意为“概括,概述”,与summarize“概述”意义相近。故选C项。
B
During my career in the past years, I’ve been fired a few times. The last time was about five years ago.
At the time. I co-owned a literary agency. I agreed to take on a giant project for a major client. I worked my tail off about a year, focusing just on this one client. Meanwhile, my partner and associates took care of everyone else. We all thought it was a good bet. But in the end, the client fired me and paired with an agency who promised to get him a major book deal with a New York publishing house and an appearance on Oprah Winfrey’s television show. I was left high and dry with nothing to show for my year-long investment.
The worst part was that I did not see it coming. I thought I had done a great job, and we had enjoyed a long-term personal relationship. But my client had his eye on bigger things and decided I couldn’t take him there, so he abandoned me without discussion.
The thing I finally learned from this experience was that clients and customers can be changeable. So never put all your eggs in one basket.
This wasn’t the only mistake I’d made in my career. Some of the mistakes I had made got me fired. That got my attention and furthered my education in the school of hard knocks.
Chances are that you are going to be fired at some point in your career. Last May, 1.7 million workers in America were laid off or fired. And according to the Labor Department, that was during month of generally good economic news. The trick—after being fired—is to try to push bitterness aside and learn from it. Failure can be a great teacher, but we have to listen.
26.Why did the author only focus on one project?
A.His client required him to do so.
B.He considered it would be a safe bet.
C.It could give him an appearance on the show.
D.There were no other projects in his agency.
27.Why was the author abandoned?
A.He caused some trouble for his client.
B.His client wanted to teach him a lesson.
C.He couldn’t satisfy his client’s demands.
D.His client was afraid of destroying their friendship.
28.What lesson did the author probably learn?
A.He should have spread his risk.
B.He should have tired his best to do better.
C.He shouldn’t have worked on giant projects.
D.He shouldn’t have made friends with his clients.
29.What trick did the author learn from being fired?
A.Don’t keep suffering, and learn from failure.
B.Study further to obtain a higher degree.
C.Endure failure, don’t resist and welcome success.
D.Get rid of difficult customers as soon as possible.
30.What does the author mainly write the text for?
A.To show the importance of failure.
B.To tell us how to face getting fired.
C.To share a most horrible experience.
D.To explain why people easily get fired.
26.B 27.C 28.A 29.A 30.B
根据第二段的“I worked my tail off about a year, focusing just on this one client. Meanwhile, my partner and associates took care of everyone else. We all thought it was a good bet.(我累死累活了一年,只关注这一个客户。与此同时,我的搭档和同事们照顾其他人。我们都认为这是一个很明智的事。)”可知,作者只关注一个项目是因为他认为这是一个很明智的事。故选B。
27.细节理解题。根据第三段的“But my client had his eye on bigger things and decided I couldn’t take him there, so he abandoned me without discussion.(但我的委托人有更大的目标,并且他认为我不能带他去那里,所以他没有和我商量就抛弃了我。)”
根据第四段的“The thing I finally learned from this experience was that clients and customers can be changeable. So never put all your eggs in one basket.(我从这次经历中学到的是,客户和顾客可能是易变的。所以不要把所有的鸡蛋放在一个篮子里。)”可知,作者可能学到的是他本应该分散风险的。故选A。
根据倒数第二段的“This wasn’t the only mistake I’d made in my career. Some of the mistakes I had made got me fired. That got my attention and furthered my education in the school of hard knocks.(这并不是我职业生涯中犯下的唯一错误。我犯的一些错误让我被解雇了。这引起了我的注意,并进一步加深了我在逆境中的教育。)”和最后一段的“The trick—after being fired—is to try to push bitterness aside and learn from it.(在被解雇之后,诀窍是试着把痛苦放在一边,并从中吸取教训。)” 故选A。
根据最后一段的“The trick—after being fired—is to try to push bitterness aside and learn from it. Failure can be a great teacher, but we have to listen.(在被解雇之后,诀窍是试着把痛苦放在一边,并从中吸取教训。失败可能是一位伟大的老师,但我们必须倾听。)”可知,作者通过讲自己职场失败的经历来告诉读者如何应对被解雇的困境,故选B。

【答案】31. C 32. E 33. B 34. A 35. D
32题;根据小标题“Be positive(保持积极)”以及后文“You should always look on the bright side of life, and imagine that you will have a happy and successful future.(你应该总是看到生活光明的一面,想象你会有一个快乐和成功的未来)”可知,本段主要说明的是通过积极思考来消除压力。
33题;根据前文“Sometimes, you’ re busy with your study and worried about exams.(有时候,你忙于学习,担心考试)”和后文“You can do this by having a cup of tea, listening to music, or just sitting and being silent for a moment.( 你可以通过喝杯茶,听听音乐,或者只是坐下来安静一会儿来做到这一点)”可知,前文提到有压力的情况,后文是减压放松的方式,因此推断空处应是提到在有压力时,要学会放松,因此推断B项“强迫自己放松”。
根据下文“Stress is your body’s enemy. Taking regular exercise, eating a healthy diet and getting enough sleep are all the things that can help you. (压力是你身体的敌人。有规律的锻炼,健康的饮食和充足的睡眠都是可以帮助你的事情)”可知,本段讲述压力伤害身体,因此要照顾好自己的身体,总结本段内容,为最佳标题。故选A。
35题;根据本段小标题“Laugh(笑)”以及后文“Seeing a funny film or telling jokes with friends will often cheer you up when you are in low spirits.(当你情绪低落的时候,看一部有趣的电影或和朋友讲笑话往往会让你振作起来)”可知,本段主要说明的是通过笑来让自己开心,从而减轻压力。

A
In the summer of 2016, I gave a talk at a small conference in northern Virginia.

Not long ago, I met a partner at a large law firm in Washington, D.C., who told me that she keeps Instagram on her phone because she misses her kids when she travels; looking through pictures of them makes her feel better. 故选A项。

They are developing their own social-media platforms, which they say will preserve what’s good about social media while getting rid of what’s bad.(除了这些官方回应,一个自称为独立网络的松散的开发者群体一直在创造另一种选择。
