My name is Will Charouhis. I come from Miami, the United States. The city is known for the warm weather and many beautiful beaches. Every year, many people come to visit the city. But the city is in danger now. Because of rising seas (海面上升), it will be under about 0. 6 meters of water by 2070. I’m worried about that.
One day, I learned about mangroves (红树林) from a book. They grow in or near water. They can take in greenhouse gases (吸收温室气体) and may stop seas rising. I was so happy to know that. Then I got an idea—growing 1,000,000 mangroves I started to grow the trees and asked people not to cut them down. In three years, I grew about 9. 6 kilometers of new mangroves.

根据短文内容,判断正误(正确“T”,错误“F”)。
Every living thing needs to reproduce (繁殖). In order for plants to reproduce, they have spread their seeds (种子) to other areas. Plants have developed all kinds of ways to do this.
The simplest way is gravity. Many seeds are inside of fruit. When fruit gets too heavy, it falls from a tree to the ground. Sometimes animals will pick up the fruit and drop it in another area. That helps move the seed even farther away. Apples spread this way.
Other plants use wind to spread their seeds. Dandelions (蒲公英) are a good example of this. Dandelion seeds are so light that when wind blows, it carries dandelion seeds to new places. Maple (枫树) seeds also use wind. Their seeds are connected with long, thin leaves that look like wings. When the seed falls from the tree, its “wings” help it fly farther from the tree.
Some animals help plants spread seeds. The animals eat the seeds. While the seed is in the animal’s body, it stays whole. When the seed leaves the animal, it’s in a new place.
Ants also help spread seeds. Some seeds have a special smell that appeals to ants. The ants bring the seeds back to their home, which of course is underground. They only eat part of the seed. They leave the rest of the seed underground. After that, the seed can start growing.
1.When fruit gets heavy enough, it will fall from a tree to the ground because of gravity.
2.Apples can spread seeds by themselves.
3.Wind helps maple seeds to fly farther from the tree.

Once upon a time, there were four seeds (种子) who were good friends. They traveled by wind and came to a forest. They hid themselves in the ground, and hoped that they would be able to grow into big trees.
But when the first seed began to grow, they realized it would not be such an easy task. There lived a group of monkeys, and the smallest monkeys loved to throw bananas at any plant that started to grow. They threw so many bananas at the first seed that she was almost cut into two. When she told the other seeds what happened, they thought that it would be better to wait until the monkeys went away.
They all agreed with that, except the first seed. She thought she would at least try it. When she tried, she was hurt by bananas. The other seeds asked her to stop trying. But she had made up her mind to become a tree. She tried again and again. Every time she was hit by bananas, she would try harder. The scars (伤疤) left by the bananas helped her grow stronger than the other seeds. Later, she could withstand (经受住) the hit of bananas. She had already grown so well that the monkeys couldn’t hurt her badly. At last, she grew into the biggest tree in the forest. Some animals can easily find their way home after a long journey. How do they make it? Scientific research shows that they are born with certain unusual abilities for direction.
A certain kind of ants can count their steps to avoid getting lost. These ants live in the open desert, so they have nothing to guide them along the way. It’s like someone walking six kilometers through a dark forest.
Some fish have an unbelievable sense of smell. They can smell even a single drop of their home water in a large sea area. Some sea birds have a similar ability. They are able to make a smell map of their flying area.
Some animals can sense the earth’s magnetic field (磁场), while humans can’t. This magnetic field guides a certain kind of fish when they swim a long way to a place and then back. How can this kind of fish do that? It is still a mystery. Scientists have no good answers yet.
However, animals with such unusual abilities still have difficulty dealing with environ-mental changes. For example, many birds depend on stars for direction, but they get lost easily at night when city lights are kept on all night. To solve this problem, we can simply turn off some lights at night. Clearly, one small act of humans may mean a lot to animals.
