Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory “I loved it for two reasons. First it showed a wonderful, loving extended family. I was fascinated by their kitchen setting and the little corner where the boy Charlie slept. Second, inside the chocolate factory was what all children dreamed of. The whole movie transported me from my childhood worries into a fairyland world.” — Margaret McKee Dumbo “For a kid who often felt like he didn’t fit in, and wasn’t good at anything, it was magical to see Dumbo discover his talent and become loved and celebrated.” — Lorraine The Never-ending Story “It has to be the most magical movie. The story has everything a young kid can ask for: a great story, a mythical flying dog and an interesting ending. Our family continue to watch it today. ” — Aaron Elliott The Sound of Music “When I was young, movies were a treat, with lollies, friends and a canvas seat. There was a special one that I did adore, and many times I’ve gone back for more. The songs, the scenery and the story line always transport me to another time. It is such a classic that my memories of it are so fantastic.” — Joanne Carter 1. What is “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” about? A. A dangerous situation. B. A fairyland world. C. A mysterious friend. D. An unexpected incident. 2. Which movie may most help children lacking confidence? A. Dumbo. B. The Never-ending Story. C. The Sound of Music. D. Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. 3. What does Aaron Elliott think of “The Never-ending Story”? A. It is full of unrealistic things. B. It meets all his expectations (期待). C. It influences people of all ages. D. It is the most meaningful movie. B Recently we celebrated my grandmother’s 90th birthday. Family members traveled to my hometown to visit her. This was the first time in many years that I had seen so many of them. Though this was an opportunity to see family, many people did not make it. Honestly, living far from hometown, I had missed many family gatherings. But this one made me realize how much I was really missing. It seemed strange when I was looking at the faces, realizing whom they were and greeting them with open arms. After chatting for a while, we caught up on each other’s news. Several relatives suggested having a family reunion soon if everyone wasn’t so busy. But my grandmother’s generation was much busier, yet still found time to gather. They understood the importance of visiting one another. They knew time is flying and that those you care about most won’t be here forever. Today, we focus on our careers and raising our kids. Our extended family isn’t the center it once was. Besides, we keep in touch on social media. But what we really miss are the potato salad, the moments of laughter and sudden bursts of excitement when we hug someone we haven’t seen for over 10 years. Although the next get-together is always a year or so away, people aren’t goods and everyone has an expiration (到期) date. I left my grandmother’s party with a much better sense of who I am and where I come from. I spent valuable time with people who contributed to who I am today. I had forgotten how much I love them and I was reminded how much I am loved. 4. How did the author feel about missing previous family gatherings? ________ A. Concerned. B. Regretful. C. Sad. D. Annoyed. 5. What do we know about the author’s grandmother’s generation? ________ A. They were irresponsible. B. They took time seriously. C. They stress the importance of family. D. They visited family frequently. 6. What does the author mean by the last sentence in paragraph 3? ________ A. Family reunions mean no fun. B. We should see loved ones more before it’s too late. C. People are always too busy to get together. D. All goods have expiration dates. 7. Why does the author write the text? ________ A. To convince readers to meet friends. B. To share an interesting family reunion. C. To compare different generations’ values. D. To stress the value of family gatherings. C In the nearly two centuries since German physician Carl Wunderlich established 98.6℉ as the standard“normal” body temperature, it has been used by parents and doctors alike as the measure by which fevers and often the severity of illness have been assessed. In more recent years, however, lower body temperatures have been widely reported in healthy adults. A 2019study showed that the normal body temperature in Americans is about 97.5℉. A multinational team led by Michael Gurven and Thomas Kraft have found a similar decrease among the Tsimane, a native population in the Bolivian Amazon. A key question, then, is why body temperatures have declined over time both for Americans and Tsimane. Extensive data available from the team’s long-term research in Bolivia addresses some possibilities. Declines might be due to the rise of modern healthcare and lower rates of lingering mild infections now as compared to the past. But while health has generally improved over the past two decades, infections are still widespread in rural Bolivia. Therefore the results suggest that reduced infection alone can’t explain the observed body temperature declines. It could be that people are in better condition, so their bodies might be working less to fight infection. Or greater access to antibiotics(抗生素) and other treatments means the duration of infection is shorter now than in the past. Another possibility is that our bodies don’t have to work as hard to regulate(调节) internal temperature because of air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter. While Tsimane body temperatures do change with time of year and weather patterns, the Tsimane still do not use any advanced technology for helping to regulate their body temperature. They do, however, have more access to clothes and blankets. The researchers were initially surprised to find no single “magic bullet” that could explain the decline in body temperature. It’s likely a combination of factors—all pointing to improved conditions. 8. What role has 98.6℉ been playing? A. It can show an illness is incurable. B. It can help doctors determine a fever. C. It can arouse people’s attention to health. D. It can indicate an abnormal body temperature. 9. Why rural Bolivia is mentioned in the text? A. To arouse readers’ sympathy. B. To imply other existing factors. C. To call for improved medical access. D. To discuss methods to reduce infections. 10. What contributes to the decline in body temperature? A. The growing adaptability. B. The international policies. C. The improved conditions. D. The worsening environment. 11. What’s the main idea of the passage? A. Modern life improves the general health. B. Living conditions greatly affect mankind. C. The normal body temperature is declining. D. Various factors influence the body temperature. D A smoke bomb from a party started a major blaze (火焰) near Los Angeles in September, just one of many recent wildfires ignited (引燃) by people. Now, an analysis of satellite data shows human-caused blazes spread much faster and kill more trees than ones ignited by lightning. Fire has always been a part of California’s natural history. But several centuries of human settlement have created new conditions that promote its spread.Studies have shown human ignition is to blame for 84% of all wildfires in the United States, and 97% of all those that threaten homes. Human-caused fires always seemed more extreme, says Stijn Hantson,a fire ecologist at the University of California,Irvine, who led the new research. But measurements of how fast they spread and their impacts on ecosystems (生态系统) in California had not been explored, he notes. To examine those differences, Hantson and his colleagues analyzed satellite data for 214 wildfires in California between 2012 and 2018.Human-caused fires typically spread about 1.83 kilometers per day, more than twice as fast as lightning-ignited burns, the team reports. The faster spreading fires also burned more violently and killed “double or triple” the trees as lightning-caused ones. However, there is no fundamental difference in the chemistry of a human-caused blaze. “A fire is a fire” Hantson says. “It’s the surrounding things that matter.” Causes of fires ranging from improperly thrown cigarettes to sparking (冒火花) power lines could ignite a blaze on any given day, he says, while lightning strikes and dry thunderstorms only happen seasonally. The researchers tracked meteorological data and found that human-caused fires were more likely to start on days with extreme weather conditions, and were more associated with drier,less-forested landscapes. This adds to scientists’ understanding of how humans are extending the fire season, says Nathan Mietkiewicz, an ecologist with the National Ecological Observation Network. 12. The author uses some data in paragraph 2 to show that ________. A. wildfires are mostly caused by humans B. most wildfires threaten people’s homes C. wildfire is a part of California’s natural history D wildfires break out frequently in the United States 13. What’s the purpose of Hantson’s research? A. To prove how extreme human-caused fires are. B. To find out the causes and solutions of wildfires. C. To explore the speed and effects of wildfires caused by humans. D. To examine the differences between a human-caused blaze and a nature-caused one. 14. How is the result presented in paragraph 4? A. By giving examples. B. By making comparisons. C. By analyzing cause and effect. D. By giving definitions. 15. What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs? A. Human-caused fires and lightning-caused fires are basically different. B Lightning strikes and thunderstorms can always lead to wildfires. C. Wildfires only happen in dry,less-forested areas. D. Humans are to blame for the extended fire season. (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) The Rise of “China-chic” Over past years, guochao, or “China-chic" has been gaining popularity among Chinese consumers. Mr. White, an education expert, firmly believes in this. On many occasions, he has been telling a true story of his experiences to many young teachers who have just joined the profession. Mr. White used to work in a remote high school for several years, teaching literature. He was an enthusiastic teacher and that rubbed off on all the children. A little girl named Meredith impressed him the most. The girl was a very well educated girl with a lively mind, a girl with ambition. The seventeen-year-old girl always wore a bright smile. However, she suffered from a disease and had to use a walker most of the time. People didn’t speak to her very often. Maybe it was because she looked different and people didn't know how to approach her Meredith usually broke the ice with people she met with a big “Hi”. Mr. White was particularly concerned about this student. He hoped that other students could actively approach her, but he never had a suitable opportunity. As a teacher, there are some things that cannot be clearly stated, especially in class when Meredith was present. In one class, Mr. White gave the students an assignment (作业) to recite (背诵) a poem. He knew that poem was difficult for students to master. Mr. White only made the assignment worth a very small part of their total grade since he knew most of his students wouldn’t do it anyway. In the class, one by one each student failed to correctly recite the poem. Finally, annoyed and half kidding, Mr. White said that the next student who couldn’t recite the poem had to do three push-ups (俯卧撑) . To his surprise, Meredith was next! Mr. White was at a loss for a moment, but he couldn’t take back what he had just said. After all, Meredith once told him not to have special demands on her. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Meredith used her walker to move to the front of the class. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “Because I want to be like you guys! They knew time is flying and that those you care about most won’t be here forever.(但我祖母那一代要忙得多,但仍然有时间聚会。他们明白互相拜访的重要性。他们知道时光飞逝,你最在乎的人不会永远在这里。)”可知,祖母这一代人他们重视家庭的重要性。故选C项。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第三段“Although the next get-together is always a year or so away, people aren’t goods and everyone has an expiration (到期) date.(虽然下一次聚会总是在一年左右之后,但人不是商品,每个人都有一个截止日期。)”可知,每个人都有到期日,世事无常,我们应该趁早多看望你爱的人,所以B选项“我们应该多见见我们爱的人,否则就太晚了。”符合题意。故选B项。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“I left my grandmother’s party with a much better sense of who I am and where I come from.(当我离开祖母的派对时,我对自己是谁、来自哪里有了更好的认识。)”可知,作者在参加了自己祖母的家庭聚会后,对家庭聚会的意义有了更好的理解,规劝人们重视家庭聚会,所以作者写这篇文章是为了强调家庭聚会的重要性。故选D项。 C In the nearly two centuries since German physician Carl Wunderlich established 98.6℉ as the standard“normal” body temperature, it has been used by parents and doctors alike as the measure by which fevers and often the severity of illness have been assessed. A It can show an illness is incurable. 【答案】8. B 9. B 10. C 11. C 【解析】 【分析】本文是一篇说明文,主要分析了人类体温呈下降趋势这一现象背后的原因。 【8题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段中的“ it has been used by parents and doctors alike as the measure by which fevers and often the severity of illness have been assessed.”(父母和医生都用它来衡量发烧和疾病的严重程度。)可知,长期以来,父母和医生利用98.6华氏度这一标准体温来判断病人(是否)发烧和疾病的严重程度。故选B。 【9题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段最后两句“infections are still widespread in rural Bolivia. Therefore the results suggest that reduced infection alone can’t explain the observed body temperature declines.”(玻利维亚农村地区的感染仍然很普遍。因此,结果表明,仅仅减少感染并不能解释观察到的体温下降。)可知,虽然感染率的降低会让人们体温下降,但在玻利维亚的农村地区感染现象仍然普遍存在。因此,感染率的降低并不足以解释人们体温为什么会下降。由此可推知,作者在文中提及玻利维亚农村地区的例子是为了说明影响人类平均体温降低的因素不止一个。故选B。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。通读全文尤其是最后一段最后一句“It’s likely a combination of factors—all pointing to improved conditions.”(这很可能是一系列因素的组合,所有这些因素都表明情况有所改善。)可知,人们体温下降是多种因素共同作用的结果,而所有因素都指向条件的改善。故选C。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。根据文章第三段“A key question, then, is why body temperatures have declined over time both for Americans and Tsimane. Extensive data available from the team’s long-term research in Bolivia addresses some possibilities.”( 那么,一个关键问题就是为什么美国人和齐曼的体温都随着时间的推移而下降。 D A smoke bomb from a party started a major blaze (火焰) near Los Angeles in September, just one of many recent wildfires ignited (引燃) by people. A. wildfires are mostly caused by humans B. most wildfires threaten people’s homes C. wildfire is a part of California’s natural history D. wildfires break out frequently in the United States 13. What’s the purpose of Hantson’s research? A To prove how extreme human-caused fires are. B. Lightning strikes and thunderstorms can always lead to wildfires. C. Wildfires only happen in dry,less-forested areas. D. Humans are to blame for the extended fire season. 【答案】12. A 13. C 14. B 15. Mr. White an education expert, firmly believes in this. To be normal,” Meredith said. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Meredith used her walker to move to the front of the class. There was a complete silence in the classroom, and Meredith’s classmates looked at each other. When she recited, she made a mistake. Before Mr. White could say a word, she threw her walker aside and started doing push-ups. Mr. White wanted to stop her, but chose to stand by somehow. Then the girl stood up, continued the poem and she finished the rest perfectly. When she finished, a student asked, “Meredith, why did you do that? It’s not an important assignment!” “Because I want to be like you guys! To be normal,” Meredith said. Silence fell on the whole room when another student cried out, “Meredith, well done! We are all teenagers! We all get in trouble time to time. ” “Thank you,” Meredith said as a big smile spread across her face. The rest of the students smiled, too. Meredith got only a few points that day, but she got the love and respect of her classmates. To her, that was worth a lot more than a grade. 词汇激活 行为类 ①犯错误:make a mistake/commit an error ②完成:finish/complete ③陷入麻烦:get in trouble/run into trouble/encounter a problem 情绪类 ①脸上露出了灿烂的笑容:a big smile spread across her face/her face lit up with a broad smile ②喜爱:love/affection 【点睛】[高分句型1] When she recited, she made a mistake.
