Soon Kara started to prepare for the talent show. To attract as many people as possible, Kara made some beautiful posters and put them up all around her neighborhood. Soon, everyone was talking about what they were going to do in the show. Kara was pleased that everyone wanted to be in her talent show. But she couldn’t help feeling a little sad. “I wish I had a talent so I could be in the show, too,” she told her mother. Her mother smiled. “I think you will discover something about yourself by the end of the day.” she said. Kara went to the park a little early and set up a small stage for the performers. Everyone brought chairs to sit on the cool grass. Soon Kara’s friends began to perform one by one. The audience cheered loudly after each act. C If you turn over a plastic bottle, like those we use to drink water, you'll notice a number “1”-that means it's made of a material called PET. Some bags, like the kind that holds milk or coffee, get a“2”, meaning they're made of a material called HDPE. At material recovery factories, plastics get sorted based on these numbers (they go up to 7), which shows how recyclable they are. Plastic marking numbers 1 and 2 are recyclable. They can be made into carpet, clothing, plastic package, as well as other products, according to Live Science. Recycling gets more difficult with higher numbers, called “mixed plastic”. This waste makes up 69% of all the plastic we use in the daily life. It's much more expensive to deal with than numbers 1 and 2. In the past, mixed plastics would be sent to other countries. But two years ago, almost no country was allowed to buy foreign plastic waste. Recycling companies had to find a new market, but many failed. For example, in Los Angeles, recycling companies still won't recycle any plastics with numbers higher than 2. Instead, they are burying or burning them. According to Live Science, what the USA needs is machines that can be used to recycle other kinds of plastic. But Hocevar, a scientist, comes up with a different solution: “The really simple answer is there isn't so much throwaway plastic in the world.” Someone may ask,“Is recycling worth it?”For bottles with “1” or“2”, the answer is “yes”, said Hocevar. There's also a growing market for plastics marked“5”,a flexible(灵活的)plastic that includes yogurt containers(容器).For other numbers, the answer was simpler: a “no” on numbers 3,4,6 and 7. 28.What does the number on plastic products mean? A. How recyclable the products are. B. Where the products were made. C. What recycle technology is needed. D. Where the products would end up. 29.What is mainly talked about in Paragraph 3? A. The cost to recycle mixed plastic. B. The solution to dealing with plastic waste. C. The plastic waste in our daily life. D. The difficultly in recycling mixed plastics. 30.What is Hocevar's suggestion? A. Burn or bury mixed plastics. B. Stop producing mixed plastic products. C. Sell the mixed plastics to other countries. D. Make more machines to recycle mixed plastics. 31.Where might you find a number“5”? A. On a milk container. B. On a coffee bag. C. On a yogurt container. D. On a water bottle. D A man enters a store to buy milk. He walks out of the store with milk. That is all—milk. At the same time, a woman enters the same grocery store also to buy milk. She buys it. But, she also buys chicken and lemons to make dinner that night. Then she remembers to buy food for her son to eat at the school. She also gets a bottle of wine for drinks with friends and a birthday card for her husband’s niece. Then she gets coffee for breakfast, ice cream for dessert and remembers stamps to mail the bills. And that is the difference between the female and male brains. It can be simply explained in a grocery store. Generally speaking, men do one thing at a time. Women do many. Doing many things at a time is often called “multi-tasking”, a very popular word these days. Now scientific research supports this theory about male and female brains. They found that male brains have more connections on one side of the brain, or hemisphere(脑半球). In the female brain, they found more activities and connections between the right and left sides of the brain. The left side of the brain is known as the side of “reason”. The right hemisphere is known as the “creative” side. Regina Verma is a professor at the University of Pennsylvania. She says when women are asked to do something difficult they use different parts of the brain. Men, she adds, generally use just one side of the brain. As a result, men generally deal directly with a problem. Women, however, might include other parts of the brain, like the part connected with reason and the part connected with sensitivity(理智)when solving a problem. 32. A woman with the purpose of buying milk will go to the store and buy_______. A. nothing but milk B. more things than planned C. a lot of things except milk D. all the things that she likes 33.What can we infer from the passage? A. Male brains develop better than female brains. B. It’s necessary for women to use different parts of the brain. C. Men should use two sides of the brain to solve a problem. D. Women may think more when finding a solution to the problem. 34. In which section of a newspaper can we find this passage? A. Business. B. Life. C. Science . D. Education . 35.What’s the best title of the passage? A. Do One Thing or Do Many a Time. B. Men and Women Think Differently. C. The Male and Female Interest in Shopping. D. Therefore, it is important to limit our screen time by doing other activities. ____39____ Looking for helpers on social media can be a valuable way to find hope and comfort in difficulty.40 Then we will form our own opinions. We can also be helpers ourselves by sharing helpful content on social media that can make a difference in the world. A. We’d better find some topics to talk about with the helper. B.
