Hello, everyone. Welcome to my show. I’m your old friend, Liu Huan, a mother of two. Today, I want to talk about short videos with you.
Short videos are a new way for people to get different ideas and information on the Internet. The people of all ages have fun watching them on their phones. There are lots of social media platforms with all kinds of short videos, such as Douyin and Bilibili. Some are fun, some are educational with different topics. And nearly all of them are about five minutes long, even just a few seconds (秒). People not only enjoy watching short videos, but also are interested in making them. With a smartphone, almost everybody can make a short video with little difficulty.
Short videos do have some good points. On the one hand, they can help people learn new things easily and quickly. People can concentrate (集中注意力) better on these videos because they are much shorter. On the other hand, what short videos show is so colorful that almost everyone can find his own interest. Short videos can even help people make money. For example, more people in the countryside choose to sell their things online by using short videos. This new way can make a big difference to their life and work.
However, these videos also come along with some problems. Spending too much time watching the videos takes time away from studying, working and other important things. Many children and even adults (成年人) have become addicted (上瘾的) to watching them. They hardly ever take part in outdoor activities less often, spending less time with friends and family.
As parents, we should see how terrible these problems are. We should set a good example for our children and do something more meaningful together, like riding a bike, taking a walk or playing family games. They can help them keep away from smartphones.
In my opinion, short videos can help our children get a closer look at the world. They can learn more in less time, too. However, we still need to be careful about the online information. We should learn to tell the right from the wrong and make good use of the Internet.

When you travel in Chengdu, don’t forget to watch the wonderful face-changing at the local tea houses. How much do you know about this traditional skill? Let’s learn something about it.
Face-changing is a special skill in Sichuan Opera. There are different characters in the play. It is also a wonderful way to show their feelings and thoughts.
It is believed that the skill of face-changing started from ancient times (古代). To scare away the dangerous animals, people made themselves look scary. Later, during the Qing Dynasty, it became a famous art form and popular in Sichuan, Chongqing, and some parts of Yunnan and Guizhou.
Most people just know three kinds of skills of face-changing: wiping the face (抹脸), blowing the face and pulling the face (扯脸). However, few people know breathing (呼吸).
The skill pulling the face is very difficult. Under the cover of the dancing movements, the actor pulls each piece of the facial makeups which is tied with a thin thread (线). The actor must do the performance with much care and finish them in a very short time. This skill master Peng Denghuai changed 14 masks in 25 seconds. This was his latest Guinness World record.
