C Last year, as my then-9-year-old son, Leopold, and I were preparing for a mom-son ski trip to Keystone, Colorado, I came up with a rule: We would say yes to everything. Leopold is a picky eater and can be hesitant to try new things. According to him, it's because he has fears, including heights, spiders and the dark. I was hoping to find a solution. So I borrowed the idea of a Yes Day, after watching the movie of the same name. Before the trip, Leopold and I agreed we would say yes to everything, especially new ones. Settled at our hotel, I took Leopold to meet his snowboarding instructor. Though he had basic lessons in Connecticut, this was his first time on a larger mountain. While he learned, I skied by myself, choosing an easy green run on day one. Inspired by Leopold's bravery on the chairlift, I challenged myself to ski a more demanding blue run the next day. It was steep(陡峭的), but with careful turns, I made it down in one piece, feeling proud of conquering a new challenge. Later that afternoon, when Leopold and I were reunited, he asked if we could go in the outdoor hot tub(浴池). Mind you, it was a 20-degree day, and the only thing I hate more than being cold is being cold and wet! When I started to object, Leopold reminded me of the rule. Yes, it was cold, and yes, I was wet. But it was also refreshing to feel the cold air on my skin, and 5 the warm water of the hot tub felt that much better once we got in. Getting out was a different story, but the experience was a delight as Leopold and I braved it together. Developing a sense of adventure helps us live life to the fullest-even if you sometimes wind up cold and wet. 28. Why did the writer start a "Yes Day" rule? A. To conquer Leopold's ski fears. B. To master new snowboarding tricks. C. To win in snowboarding competitions. D. To encourage Leopold to try new things. 29. Which of the following best describes the writer? A. Adventurous. B. Confident. C. Optimistic. D. Considerate. 30. What can we learn about the writer from paragraph 4&5? A. She was eager to go in the outdoor hot tub. B. She regretted breaking the rule with Leopold. C. She found it rewarding to brave the experience. D. She felt much better when she got out of the tub. 31. What is a suitable title for the text? A. Braving Winter: Family Unity B. Embracing Yes: A Family Adventure C. Family Ski Trip: Mountain Memories D. Ski Challenges: Winter Wonders D People send messages every day on social media. These online conversations can have a huge impact and shape how societies make decisions. But there is a growing problem. Sometimes people don’t listen to each other and can say really hurtful things. Would it be better if there were an advisor in online talks? We tried to use artificial intelligence (AI) (人工智能) to carry out this task. So, we did an online experiment with pairs of people discussing a challenging topic. In the first group, one participant in each pair had an AI helper. The AI tried to make sure the discussion was polite and respectful. It didn’t change the participant’s point of view, though! The participant could accept or refuse the suggestions or completely edit the message an AI helper offers. In the control group, the people had a conversation on the same topic but neither of the participants had an AI helper. After the discussions ended, the pairs shared their thoughts on how good the conversation was. In our study, the participants accepted the AI’s suggestions two thirds of the time. When they used the AI’s suggestions, the messages became more positive and polite. Participants whose partners used the AI reported feeling better about the conversation. They were more willing to understand and respect each other, even if they still disagreed. The people who used the AI themselves didn’t report a huge change in how they felt about the conversation. However, they were more willing to respect the opinions 6 of others! The results of our study show that AI did a good job of making online discussions polite. But you don’t need a reminder to be respectful. Even in the vast digital world, each conversation matters. Your choice to be kind and respectful can make a big difference. It can promote a culture of healthy discussion and understanding. This is also true for real-life conversations. 32. What do the underlined words “this task” in paragraph 1 probably refer to? A. Starting talks. B. Guiding conversations. C. Changing views. D. Sending messages. 33. What do we learn about participants with AI helpers? A. They responded to AI politely. B. They changed views as AI suggested. C. They tended to respect others’ views. D. They experienced mixed feelings. 34. What does the author want to stress in the last paragraph? A. The effectiveness of AI in online discussions. B. The significance of respectful communication. C. The importance of reminders in conversations. D. The balance between technologies and choices. 35. Which is the most suitable title for the text? A. Can Al remove mean posts? B. Can AI make online talks kinder? C. How to respect different opinions? D. How to reach an agreement online? 第二节(共 5小题;每小题 2.5分,满分 12.5分) 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 The Importance of Time Management As high school students, we’re often caught between the demands of schoolwork, extracurricular activities, and personal interests. He carried a secret burden: a stutter(口吃) that often brought about laughter from his classmates. This made him very upset. Shy and reserved. Jack chose to fade into the background rather than draw attention to himself. He felt like an outsider, never quite fitting in. Jack was eager to exchange ideas with his classmates, but afraid of getting into trouble. Jack's science teacher, Katherine, a warm and caring woman often wearing a smile, noticed Jack's stutter and shyness. She observed how Jack struggled to express himself in class and how he would shy away when called upon to speak. Determined to lend a hand, Katherine took Jack under her wing, encouraging him to embrace bravery and believe in his own abilities. Subsequently, Katherine adopted a set of systematic methods to help him. She was glad to find the potential in him, the intelligence and creativity that lay hidden beneath his stutter. Whenever possible, Katherine was always ready to praise his efforts, always declaring, "You are so great!” Whenever Jack stumbled over his words, Katherine always smiled at him encouragingly, providing him with the strength to continue. Day by day, Jack found himself speaking with greater confidence and fluency. One day, Katherine announced that each student should give a presentation of a science project in front of the class. Jack's heart sank, the familiar fear and anxiety wrapping around him. How could he possibly stand before his classmates to give his ideas clearly, knowing that they would laugh at him? As the presentation drew near, Jack's anxiety mounted. Then came the big day. He watched his classmates take turns to walk up to the front. They gave their presentation with confidence and backed to their seats with satisfaction. His classmates looked on, ready to see what was in store for Jack. He stood there tongue-tied with his face turning pale. When he looked around the classroom, Katherine was just smiling at him encouragingly. So Jack took a deep breath and concentrated on his presentation. Words flowed from his lips, despite some pauses and repetitions. He even added gestures to better express himself. It seemed that confidence had found him. When Jack finished his presentation, the room erupted into applause. The applause washed over Jack, and with it came a wave of confidence. His grateful eyes met Katherine’s, her smile now a symbol of his journey to self-assurance. No longer defined by his stutter, Jack felt a sense of belonging. His presentation wasn't just an assignment; it was a testament to his ability to overcome personal obstacles. As the room quieted, Jack returned to his seat, his heart lighter, knowing that he had made a lasting impression on his classmates and himself. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
