As a self-taught artist, Baya kept the connection to tribal (部落的) art that so fascinated the Western world, and actively rejected any form of classification (分类). Born in Algeria in 1931, Baya’s life was far from easy. Orphaned (成为孤儿) at the age of five, she was raised by her grandmother. Unable to attend school, she worked as a servant for a French woman named Marguerite Camina, who would later be described by the artist as her adoptive mother. Camina noticed the talent that her young servant displayed in making figures from clay (陶土), and encouraged her to develop her skill. By the time she was 16, Baya had her first exhibition in Paris. This is where her influence on artists such as Pablo Picasso is first noted. Baya always allowed her environment and imagination to shape her work. She created work that was deeply personal, rooted in her childhood and her home. Inspired by her natural talent, Picasso invited Baya to work with him in 1948. Picasso’s Women of Algiers series is said to be inspired by Baya, although it was painted after their time spent working together. Baya married celebrated Andalusian composer Mahfoudh Mahieddine in 1953, who was credited with inspiring many of the instruments that appear in her works. One year following her marriage, Baya stopped painting. But the stop was temporary. She returned to her artistic practice in the late 1960s and continued to create works until she died in 1998. Some people described her work as abstractionism because of the strong colors and strange figures. But the artist refused to classify herself using the terminology (术语) of Western standards. Her pieces don’t follow any rules, continually rejecting the classifications forced onto them. She was an Algerian artist at heart — clearly the only personal and artistic classification she was happy with. 24. Who discovered Baya’s artistic talent? A. Pablo Picasso. B. Marguerite Camina. C. Her teacher. D. Her grandmother. 25. What is special about Baya’s works? A. They are greatly influenced by Picasso. B. They are based on her own experiences. C. They combine tribal art and classical art. D. They reflect the life of women in Algeria. 26. What can we learn about Baya? A. She lost her parents in 1931. B. She stopped painting in the 1960s. C. She started working with Picasso at 17. D. She learnt to create art at around age five. 27. What did Baya think of people referring to her work as abstractionism? A. It’s unacceptable. B. It’s interesting. C. It’s reasonable. D. It’s unprofessional. C Quiet Parks International (QPI) have got every reason to award Quiet Trail to the Niobrara National Scenic River this year, making it the other Quiet Trail in the world after Cuifeng Lake Trail, Taiwan. Kalli Kieborz, Director of Niobrara Council, received the award for their assistance in managing and protecting its natural resources, including natural quiet, since 1997. This Award concluded a two-year process that included exploring the full length of the river to collect qualitative and quantitative acoustic (听觉的) data. Gordon Hempton, cofounder of QPI, stated, “Our testing process is very exact. Beyond collecting standard acoustic data, each team member must agree unhesitatingly that natural quiet existed throughout the testing period. The river’s splendid geologic landscape, unusual atmospheric conditions and outstanding wildlife all contributed to a positive outcome.” The Niobrara River is notable for its beauty, ecological importance, and recreational appeal in the northern Great Plains, U.S.. Six major ecosystems meet in the Niobrara National Scenic River valley, resulting in a special mix of more than 160 plant and animal species. “It is filled with unique, even one-of-a-kind opportunities for the curious and adventurous visitors,” said John Ricks, Nebraska Tourism director. “97% of the U.S. population faces noise pollution from sources like flights and highways. In fact, the more quiet we have, the more we can see and hear about the world, so we are thrilled to be able to offer it at Niobrara National Scenic River. From a quiet starry night to peaceful natural escapes, it uncovers what cannot be enjoyed in many other places,” stated Susan Cook, another director. Areas like the Niobrara National Scenic River offer an opportunity to showcase quiet, unspoiled areas in a noisy world. Today, as people’s life is overloaded with noise, the intentional seeking-out of quiet areas is on the rise and with it, the opportunity to engage new travelers in visiting the beautiful, yet still largely hidden treasure of the wild. 28. Which of the following best describes the testing process? A. Flexible. B. Reliable. C. Simple. D. Loose. 29. What is a consequence of ecosystems meeting in the valley? A. Ecology imbalance. B. Biodiversity enrichment. C. Species competition. D. Tourism boost. 30. What does Susan Cook highlight in paragraph 4? A. The joy of winning the award. B. The outcome of noise pollution. C. The activities of enjoying quiet. D. The value of natural quiet. 31. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text? A. To call on efforts to reconnect with nature. B. To inform the recognition of a quiet river. C. To display the challenges of protecting ecosystem. D. To stress the need to escape busyness of modern life. D Cities, covering less than 2% of the Earth’s surface, are major contributors to climate change, consuming almost 80% of the world’s energy and producing more than 60% of greenhouse gas emissions. Fortunately, net zero emissions (净零排放) by 2050, a target set at the COP26 conference, could be achieved faster using digital twins cities, according to a recent research. Looking and behaving identically in their real-world physical environments, digital twins can help track, manage and reduce environmental damage rapidly. These replicas (复制品) link to networks of sensors that collect data from buildings, transport, air quality, and energy use, to see where emissions can be cut and efficiency improved. Similar technologies have been in use since NASA’s Apollo moon mission in 1969, where computers and machine replicas were used to test and monitor spacecraft. Research shows that digital twins can save cities more than $ 280 billion globally by 2030 through more efficient urban planning. Digital twin provider Cityzenith believes that net zero deadlines could be achieved 15 years earlier if the world’s 100 biggest cities use the technology to decarbonize. “They are the perfect tool for managing and speeding up the energy transformation,” said CEO Michael Jansen. “We could get to net zero globally by 2035.” Over the past decades, big tech companies around the world, including GE Digital and Siemens, have developed software for replicating cities, including a district of Berlin, the island nation of Singapore, and the entire city of Shanghai in China. In the US, the Digital Twin Consortium is working to standardize how digital twins are built and share data. Technology company MX3D built the world’s first 3D-printed stainless steel bridge and co-created its digital twin. CEO Gijs van der Velden believes twins will give us precise control over the built environment. Recently, OpenAI also made advances in this field. On February 15, the company revealed its latest groundbreaking tech—Sora to the world. Sora is a text-to-video generative AI model. It can generate videos that matches the text prompt (文本提示) given to it in a few seconds. Experts believe Sora is likely to be applied in science and national defence in the future. 32. How does the author show the impact of cities on climate change? A. By listing data. B. By giving examples. C. By comparing opinions. D. By quoting research findings. 33. What’s Michael Jansen’s attitude towards digital twins? A. Approving. B. Opposed. C. Unconcerned. D. Objective. 34. What can we infer from the last two paragraphs? A. Sora has been used in scientific research and military. B Gijs van der Velden has little faith in digital twins’ future. C. Digital twins technology is developing rapidly around the world. D. Few tech companies are involved in the study of replicating cities. 35. Which is the best title of this passage? A. Net Zero Emissions Could Be Hit 15 Years Earlier B. Cityzenith Is Working on Promoting Digital Twin Cities C. Big Cities Are to Blame for the Severe Environment Pollution D. Digital Twin Cities Can Reduce the Impact of Planet’s Largest Polluters When meeting someone for the first time, who won’t know you habitually frown if you’re concentrating, you will be misunderstood. ____36____ Here are four more. Ignore the context ____37____ Depending on the context, the same nonverbal signals can take on totally different meanings. If you yawn in a staff meeting because you were up early for an international business call —let people know why you’re tired. Find meaning in a single gesture People often try to evaluate your state of mind by monitoring your body language. But they take more notice of any single sign that indicates you’re in a bad mood and not to be approached. ____38____ So when you are standing with your arms folded for your comfort, others may judge your body language as resistant and unapproachable. Evaluate you through the biases (偏见) A neighbour likes me from the moment we met. Before long. I know it’s because I resemble her favorite aunt. She raced to her big sister’s room, telling her that Dad was calling them, and they rushed downstairs log either. Dad put his arm around Mom and told them that they were going on a trip to the Virunga Mountains of Africa. There were three national parks that they would visit. Rose and Gina looked at each other. “What?” they said with one voice. Mom told them it would be really exciting to go there on a trip. At 12 years old Rose would prefer going to an amusement park or a beach. She thought it important to let her parents know she didn’t want to go there but to the beach for a week or two. “Well,” said Dad, “I have to go for an assignment for the paper. We’re covering the mountain gorillas (大猩猩) because they’re critically endangered these years. So, I thought it’d also be a great place to take a vacation. B 【解析】 【原文】W: Jacob, your flowers aren’t growing very well. M: Yeah. That’s why I called you here, Amy. I just started to learn to grow flowers recently and I don’t know what’s wrong with them. They are becoming less and less energetic. W: Let me see... There’s too much water in the flowerpot. How often do you water them? M: I’m afraid they lack water in the hot sun, so I water them at noon every day. W: Oh, that’s it, Jacob, listen, every two days or three days is enough. Flowers don’t need to be watered too often and too much watering can be damaging, which can cause the flowers to even die. M: Oh, I never realize it. Luckily, the flowers look good. W: Besides it is also not advisable to water flowers at noon, especially in summer, as it can make their leaves turn yellow, just like yours. Well, I think I have to tell you more tips on how to grow flowers. M: Yes. It’s much more convenient than learning from books. 听下面一段独白,回答以下小题。【此处可播放相关音频,请去附件查看】 18. 【答案】24. B 25. B 26. C 27. She was an Algerian artist at heart — clearly the only personal and artistic classification she was happy with.(但这位艺术家拒绝用西方标准的术语给自己分类。她的作品不遵循任何规则,不断地拒绝强加给它们的分类。她本质上是一个阿尔及利亚艺术家——显然,这是她唯一满意的个人和艺术分类)”可知,Baya拒绝用西方的标准定义自己,并将自己归类为阿尔及利亚艺术家。因此,她不接受人们将她的作品定义为抽象派艺术。故选A项。 C Quiet Parks International (QPI) have got every reason to award Quiet Trail to the Niobrara National Scenic River this year, making it the other Quiet Trail in the world after Cuifeng Lake Trail, Taiwan. B 29. B 30. D 31. B. Gijs van der Velden has little faith in digital twins’ future. Ignore the context ____37____ Depending on the context, the same nonverbal signals can take on totally different meanings. People can’t really understand someone’s nonverbal message unless they understand the circumstances behind it. That’s how biases can work —the so-called “halo effect.” But biases can also work against you. What if you remind people of someone they dislike? In that case, their original response to you wouldn’t be a good one. ____39____ Compare your behavior with their culture Most of culture’s values are absorbed unconsciously at an early age. Such values affect how people think and act, and more importantly, the kind of criteria by which people judge others. ____40____ For instance, people’s greetings, hand gestures etc. vary with cultures. Therefore, there are many mistakes people make when reading your body language. Under-standing them, and trying not to make the same mistakes, will help you display nonverbal ability. A. Nonverbal signals are very common in our daily life. B. They would even look for your behavior that confirmed this bias. C. What they didn’t realize was that, for this individual, it was a normal behavior. D. In fact, people easily make mistakes reading and reacting to others’ body language. E. What’s proper and correct in one culture may be ineffective or even rude in another. F. Besides, they often assign meaning to negative messages than it does to positive ones. G. Context includes locations, relationships, time, experience, and even room temperature. D 37. G 38. F 39. B 40. 【36题详解】 根据上文“When meeting someone for the first time, who won’t know you habitually frown if you’re concentrating, you will be misunderstood.(当你第一次和某人见面时,他不知道你会皱起眉头,如果你很专注,你会被误解。)” D选项“In fact, people easily make mistakes reading and reacting to others’ body language.(事实上,人们很容易对他人的肢体语言做出错误的解读和反应。)” 【37题详解】 根据下文“Depending on the context, the same nonverbal signals can take on totally different meanings(根据上下文的不同,同样的非语言信号可以有完全不同的含义。)” G 选项“Context includes locations, relationships, time, experience, and even room temperature.(语境包括地点、关系、时间、经历,甚至是室温。)” 【38题详解】 根据上文“But they take more notice of any single sign that indicates you’re in a bad mood and not to be approached. (但他们会更注意任何一个表明你心情不好、不宜接近的信号。)”以及后一句“So when you are standing with your arms folded for your comfort, others may judge your body language as resistant and unapproachable.(因此,当你为了舒适而交叉双臂站立时,别人可能会认为你的肢体语言是抗拒和不可接近的。)” F选项“Besides, they often assign meaning to negative messages than it does to positive ones.(此外,他们经常赋予负面信息以意义,而不是正面信息。)” 【39题详解】 根据上文“But biases can also work against you. What if you remind people of someone they dislike? In that case, their original response to you wouldn’t be a good one. (但偏见也可能对你不利。如果你让人们想起他们不喜欢的人呢?在这种情况下,他们最初对你的回应并不好。)”可知,此处强调的是“预先的偏见”对给他人留下印象产生的影响。此处指出的是一些不好的偏见会让他人对自己的最初印象不好。B选项“They would even look for your behavior that confirmed this bias.(他们甚至会寻找你的行为来证实这种偏见。)” 【40题详解】 根据前文“Most of culture’s values are absorbed unconsciously at an early age. Such values affect how people think and act, and more importantly, the kind of criteria by which people judge others.(大多数文化价值观都是在很小的时候就被无意识地吸收了。这些价值观影响着人们的思维和行为,更重要的是,影响着人们评判他人的标准。)”可知,此处强调了无意识吸收的文化价值所产生的影响。E选项“What is right in one culture may be ineffective or even rude in another.(在一种文化中正确的行为在另一种文化中可能是无效的甚至是粗鲁的。)” At the Nelson Street Pub in Pembroke, they’re prepared for customers who dine and dash. At 12 years old, Rose would prefer going to an amusement park or a beach. I’m sure it’ll be very educational for you girls.” Gina let out a sigh, unable to contain her disappointment. She wanted to say something but Mom interrupted and announced that the trip was set on the next Monday. “Sit down, both of you.” Dad had on his severe look. “Girls, it’s important for you to know about the world around you. This is a wonderful chance for you to experience and learn an amazing place. Do you know anything about the mountain gorillas?” The sisters shook their heads. “Well, get your laptop computer, Gina.
