B Every Tuesday, my children prepare themselves in a unique manner. They gather their gardening tools, put on old clothes that can get dirty, and sometimes even bring a small notebook and pen. Then, I drive them to a community garden where they spend the whole day at a gardening club. When I initially enrolled them in this program, I was excited about the concept but had some concerns as a parent. Would they enjoy getting their hands dirty all day? Would they be able to focus for such a long time? But when I asked them if they ever felt bored, they looked at me strangely. They clearly didn’t understand my worry, which made me realize my concerns might be unfounded. In this club, kids have the freedom to choose what they want to grow, whether it’s colorful flowers or delicious vegetables. They aren’t told that their choices are wrong but are encouraged to experiment. Something my children love about the gardening club is that they aren’t rushed to finish one task and move on to the next. Instead, they can take their time and explore as much as their interest leads them. "Don’t they miss out on regular school activities?" worried parents have questioned me. Both of their teachers don’t see it as an issue, and more importantly, my kids are acquiring new skills that a traditional classroom can’t offer. They are learning to notice the small changes in plants and understand the growth cycle — a lesson that’s hard to teach in a classroom. They are making friends with people of different ages. They work together, sharing their ideas and efforts to make the garden beautiful. I’m grateful that the gardening club is influencing my children’s connection with nature. They are learning how to care for plants, how to be patient, and gaining knowledge that will make them appreciate nature more in the future. 4. What do the children take when going to the gardening club? A. Gardening books. B. Old clothes. C. Gardening hats. D. Watering cans. 5. The underlined word “unfounded” in the passage probably means _______. A. without a basis B. very serious C. easy to understand D. difficult to solve 6. We can infer from the passage that ______. A. The author was against the gardening club at first. B. The children have learned a lot from the gardening club. C. The gardening club is not popular among parents. D. The children don’t like the gardening club. 7. What is the main idea of the passage? A. The benefits of the gardening club for children. B. The activities in the gardening club. C. The author’s concerns about the gardening club. D. How children make friends in the gardening club. C Recently a Beijing father sent in a question at an Internet forum asking what “PK” meant. “My family has been watching the “Singer 2024” singing competition TV program. My little daughter asked me what 'PK' meant, but I had no idea,” explained the puzzled father. To a lot of Chinese young people who have been playing games online, it is impossible not to know this term. In such Internet games, “PK” is short for “Player Kill”, in which two players fight until one ends the life of the other. In the case of the “Singer 2024” singing competition, “PK” was used to refer to the stage where two singers have to compete with each other for only one chance to go up in competition ranking. For example, in the final, there is Na Ying with Tan Weiwei, only one of whom has the prize for championship. Like this father, Chinese teachers at high schools have also been finding their students' compositions using Internet jargons (行话) which are difficult to understand. A high school teacher from Tianjin asked her students to write compositions with simple language, but they came up with a lot of Internet jargons that she didn't understand. “My 'GG' came back this summer from college. He told me I've grown up to be a 'PLMM'. I loved to 'FB' with him together; he always took me to the 'KPM',” went one composition. “GG” means Ge Ge (Chinese pinyin for brother). “PLMM” refers to Piao Liang Mei Mei (beautiful girl). “FB” means Fu Bai (corruption). “KPM” is short for KFC, Pizza Hut and McDonald's. Some specialists welcome Internet jargons as a new development in language. If you do not even know what a Kong Long (dinosaur, referring to an ugly looking female) or a Qing Wa (frog, referring to an ugly looking male) is, you will possibly be regarded as a Cai Niao! 8. By writing the article the writer tries to ________. A. explain some Internet language B. suggest common Internet language C. laugh at the Beijing father D. draw our attention to Internet language 9. What does the writer think about the term “PK”? A. Fathers can't possibly know it. B. The daughter should understand it. C. Online game players may know it. D. “Singer 2024” shouldn't have used it. 10. The examples of the Beijing father and the Tianjin teacher are used to show that Internet jargons ________. A. are used not only online B. can be understood very well C. are welcomed by all the people D. cause trouble to our mother tongue 11. What would be the best title for the passage? A. A puzzled father B. Do you speak Internet-ish? C. Keep away from Internet-ish D. Kong Long or Qing Wa? D Robots doing housework is nothing new with the latest achievements in robotics. Recently, a robot called Mobile Aloha caught the attention of many at the beginning of 2024, with short videos of it cooking at someone’s home becoming popular in January. Developed by a team of researchers at Stanford University in the US, the robot can handle everything for a dish, whether it is cutting vegetables or cracking eggs. It also does well in various household tasks like watering plants, petting cats, cleaning the floor and doing washing. It even knows to shake the pillow (枕头) after putting on a pillowcase. An Internet user joked under one video that as long as this thing doesn’t try to kill him while he is asleep, he is in real need of it. However, a following video posted by one of the researchers, Tony Zhao, and showing Mobile Aloha’s failures proved that the idea of having a robot servant may just be wishful thinking. In the video, Mobile Aloha randomly broke glasses and plates, crashed into cupboards and even burned a pot. It turns out that Mobile Aloha is not a complete self-learning system that can independently deal with new environments. It relies on demonstrations by human operators in its surroundings, meaning that the robot needs to learn from human behavior before completing each task. Also, according to the team, the robot achieves a 95% success rate in removing red wine stains (污渍), 80% in pushing chairs, and a mere 40% in frying shrimp. In short, it’s far from perfect. The behavioral problems of AI robots have been bothering scientists for decades. Although AI robots do pretty well in things requiring high-level reasoning like math, they perform worse than a one-year-old child when it comes to simple tasks demanding abilities of sense, reflexes (本能反应) and mobility, among others. As the team observed, the interaction between the arm and the base of Mobile Aloha would get quite complex if more flexibility is required in a task. Even a slight deviation (偏差) in the base settings might lead to significant drift in the arms’ motions, resulting in failure to complete the task. 12. What can be known about Mobile Aloha according to paragraph 2? A. It sells well among housewives. B. It can help one to do housework. C. It was developed by IT scientists. D. It is badly needed by Internet users. 13. Why is Tony Zhao’s video about Mobile Aloha mentioned? A. To prove its online popularity. B. To display its powerful functions. C. To show it needs further improvement. D. To suggest it should work under one’s help. 14 How can Mobile Aloha best complete a new task? A. By operating independently. B. By copying humans’ behavior. C. By learning from previous tasks. D. By turning to programmers for help. 15. Which type of task may AI robots be poor at? A. Deep learning. B. Precise calculation. C. Logical thinking. D. Behavioral flexibility. 第二节(共5小题:每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Taking good notes is a time-saving skill that will help you to become a better student in several ways. ___16___ Second, your notes are excellent materials to refer to when you are studying for a test. Alice, with her curious eyes sparkling, casually asked about my friendship with Judy. In a moment of thoughtlessness, I responded, “I only hung out with Judy because she asked me and I wasn’t keen on being friends with her. She was rather dull.” The unkind words just escaped my lips before I could catch them, like marbles rolling off a table. Little did I know, Judy had been just around the corner somehow. When I glanced up, Judy appeared right in front of me, having accidentally overheard everything. All the color faded from her face. Her eyes widening with shock, without a word, she rushed off. Alice and I were left standing there, exchanging a look of shame and discomfort. I knew I should run after Judy and apologize, but with my mind blank, I was frozen. Alice’s face turned red, too. We walked home in silence, each step heavier than the last. The following days were filled with awkwardness. I felt terrible for what I’d said and was dying to mend our friendship. An honest apology was desperately needed. But what should I say? Unintentional as I was, I indeed hurt Judy’s feelings. Every time I saw Judy in the halls or during classes, I’d quickly look away. Fate threw me a curve ball in our speech class. On Tuesday, Mr. Thomas announced that we would be giving improvised(即兴的) speeches. He had written our topics on slips of paper and put them into a secret jar. Each of us was asked to blindly choose one without knowing what it would be about. I couldn’t say I was not nervous. As I reached into the jar of topics, my fingers closed around the slip that read, “Share your most embarrassing moment.” My heart pounded like a drum roll in my chest. It was as if the universe had come my way to give me a chance. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Knowing what I had to say, I calmed myself down and walked to the platform. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ That day marked a turning point. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 吴忠中学2024-2025学年第一学期第二次月考 高三英语试卷 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段对话仅读一遍。 1. Thank you for your company. I really hope that you can enjoy your stay here and best wishes for an even better future. Yours, Li Hua 第二节 (满分25分) 【47题答案】 【答案】Knowing what I had to say, I calmed myself down and walked to the platform. I took a deep breath and began. With my voice shaking, I spoke of my inconsiderate behaviour, deep regret and the upsetting result without exposing Judy’s name. After finishing my heartfelt speech, with sweat flowing down my face, I didn’t dare to expect my classmates’ response. To my surprise, they applauded for my sincerity. Even Mr. Thomas praised my courage to admit my fault and apologize publicly. Back to my seat, I stole a look at Judy and amazingly found she was also looking at me with tears. That day marked a turning point. Although Judy and I never directly talked about that unpleasant events, our interactions slowly returned to normal. We laughed and chatted again, as if a silent forgiveness had been granted. I was never proud of my bravery in that speech class. Instead, I knew for sure it was an experience to be modestly thankful for. Here are the lessons I have carried close to my heart ever since: Speaking ill of others plant seeds of regret and true friendships deserve the respect of honest words and open hearts. 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
