Read on to discover a few of the animals which we have lost for our behaviors. Dodo They were once abundant on the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. Larger than turkeys, dodos weighed about 23 kg (about 50 pounds) and had blue- gray plumage and a large head. Portuguese sailors discovered them around 1507. These and subsequent sailors quickly killed the dodo population as an easy source of fresh meat for their voyages. The later introduction of monkeys, pigs, and rats to the island proved disastrous to the birds as the mammals fed on their eggs. The last dodo was killed in 1681. Sadly, very few scientific descriptions or museum specimens (样本) exist. Steller’s Sea Cow Discovered in 1741, Steller’s sea cows once inhabited the near- shore areas of the Komandor Islands in the Bering Sea. Much larger than present- day manatees and dugongs, Steller’s sea cows reached a length of 9-10 meters and weighed around 10 tons. They floated at the surface of the coastal waters but unfortunately had little ability to sink. This made them easy targets for Russian seal hunter. Killing was often wasteful and the species was exterminated (灭绝) by 1768, less than 30 years after it was first discovered. No preserved specimens exist today. Passenger Pigeon The passenger pigeon was hunted to extinction in the early 1900s. Billions of these birds once inhabited eastern North America. As American settlers pressed westward, passenger pigeons were killed by the millions yearly for their meat and shipped by railway carloads for sale in city markets. Hunters often destroyed their nesting grounds and entire colonies in a single breeding season. From 1870 the decline of the species became dramatic. The last known passenger pigeon, named Martha, died on Sept.1,1914 in the Cincinnati Zoo in Ohio. 1. Which of the following statements is true about dodos? A. They were believed to have a short history with less than 170 years. B. Portuguese sailors found them in the 16th century during voyages. C. Animals like monkeys and pigs didn’t threaten dodos’ reproduction. D. They were bigger than turkeys and heavier than Steller’s sea cows. 2. Why were Steller’s sea cows effortlessly hunted? A. Because they were large enough to be spotted by hunters. B. Because they were unable to dive themselves in the water. C. Because they were regarded as prizes by Russian sailors. D. Because they floated at the water surface independently. 3. What do the three animals have in common? A. Human factors speeded up their extermination. B. They all disappeared before the 19th century. C No preserved specimens of them exist today. D. Their habitats were all in the ocean. B In my early teens, I was once given a film camera as a gift. On receiving it, I jumped on my bike, headed to Wimbledon Common and took photos, just for me: photos of trees and wildlife. I was out all day. On my way home I spotted a tree lit up by street lighting and tried to capture its beauty. Rushing home, “I put the spent film in a special little envelope and sent it off to a photography store, desperate to see how it would come out. I took many photos then and loved the fact that when you processed your film you got back colour photos which froze the precious moments, gently encouraging the hobby and the payments for processing. As I grew into adulthood, that simple, deep happiness gradually faded away. One weekend when I was busy answering the work calls, my eyes caught a box in the corner of the room. I suddenly felt a sense of sadness. The stress growing over these years had pushed the camera from beside my pillow to the box in the corner. I thought I needed a change. I took out the camera and dusted it down. It was a great joy that it still worked. I bought new film and took the camera everywhere I went. Now it is always on hand to accompany me on journeys, to allow me time to myself. Even if the day is full and busy, I can seize some moments for myself to take photos, to observe the world around me. The wall of my room now holds all my camera equipment on display, along with photos I’ve taken. To me, the room represents how I’ve found happiness: by reconnecting to the younger part of myself I laid aside, by allowing room in my life for pleasure to exist, and by creating an environment that allows opportunities for delight. 4. What did the author think of photography as a teenager? A. Encouraging and practical. B. Thrilling and rewarding. C. Difficult yet interesting. D. Tiring yet delightful. 5. Why did the author stop taking photos according to paragraph 2? A. He was busy with his work. B. He was struck by sudden sorrow. C. He experienced increasing pressure. D He attempted to behave like an adult. 6. What did the author get from picking up his hobby? A. Better skills of observation. B. New journeys in the wild. C. Different styles of photography. D. More enjoyment in the daily routine. 7. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Admiring Beauty Behind the Lens B. Rediscovering Lost Childhood Memories. C. Escaping Teenage Sadness with Camera. D. Regaining Pleasure Through Photography. C Americans love their automobiles. So long, it seems, as they don’t run on batteries. A survey published in July by the Pew Research Centre found that less than two-fifths of them would consider buying an electric vehicle (EV). Despite expanding charging networks and more EV models to choose from, that is a slightly lower share than the year before. The biggest block to EV enthusiasm in America is price. The average EV there sells for$52,000, estimates Cox Automotive, a consultancy. That is not a world away from the $48,000 that Americans typically pay for a petrol vehicle. But total costs of ownership, which combine the sales price and running costs for five years, vary more widely. At $65,000, the typical EV is$9,000 more expensive to own than a petrol car (owing to factors like price y home chargers, dearer insurance and, compared with Europe and China, inexpensive petrol). All this leaves America’s car industry circ ling a roundabout. Consumers’ unwillingness to pay for expensive EVs is forcing carmakers to take action to shift stock (库存). Tesla has cut its prices several times in the past year. Carmakers are offering average discounts of almost 10% on their EVs, more than twice as generous as for petrol cars. But this is making it even harder for the companies to make money from battery power. Continued losses in turn may make car firms lose appetite to invest in a broader electric offering that would appeal to buyers. American carmakers are still hoping they can escape this vicious (恶性的) circle. They are mostly postponing their American EV investments rather than pulling the plug on them. And from January the EV tax credits (免税) will also be available at the point of sale, making it less burdensome for buyers to take advantage of them. All this could eventually generate profits for car firms. Eventually may, though, come a bit later than hoped. 8. Why do Americans not want to buy EVs? A. The sale price of EVs. B. The uncertain prospect of EVs. C. The total cost of EVs. D. Imperfect function of EVs. 9. What’s carmakers measure to save the depressed EV industry? A. Reducing the cost of production. B. Making EV tax credits policy. C. Improving after-sales service. D. Giving more discounts on EVs. 10. What is the carmakers’ attitude towards the future of EV industry? A. Cautious. B. Negative. C. Positive. D. Indifferent. 11. What can be inferred from the text? A. EV companies will immediately increase profits. B. Electric vehicles will overtake petrol cars. C. Petrol cars will dominate America’s car industry. D. The boom of EV industry still has a long way to go. D We tend to think of large cities as melting pots— places where people from various backgrounds can socialize and interact. However, according to a new research, people in big cities tend to primarily interact with other individuals of the same socioeconomic status, whereas people in small cities and rural areas are much more likely to have diverse interactions. Researchers led by Stanford University used GPS data collected from 9.6 million cellphones across 382 metropolitan (大都市的) areas in the USA to determine how many times people had the opportunity to interact, even briefly, with someone in a different income bracket (阶层). The massive and precise data allowed the researchers to find that people living in the 10 most populous metropolitan areas, including cities like New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago, along with their surrounding areas, were significantly less likely to interact with people of different socioeconomic status than people in areas with fewer residents. “There’s a large variety of choices in big cities. In New York, you can spend $10 on a dinner or $1,000 on a dinner, but if you live in a place with only one diner, everyone goes there, rich or poor. That seems to be the main mechanism for this phenomenon,” explained Jure Leskovec, a professor of computer science. Fortunately, there are large cities that have managed to promote diverse interactions because the centers people visit the most — which turn out to be shopping malls, squares, and similar places— are between rich and poor neighborhoods. Those center s allow people to see each other and interact. By providing a better understanding of how the location of public infrastructure (基础设施) can affect socioeconomic mixing, the researchers hope their work will assist urban planners in building cities that live up to the promise of promoting diverse interactions. 12. What might be a conclusion of the new research? A. Large cities act as melting pots. B. Urban residents interact more. C. Big cities display socioeconomic separation. D. Urbanization results in different social ranks. 13. How was the research carried out? A. By bridging the income brackets. B By studying the frequency of interaction. C. By comparing residents’ behavior patterns. D. By collecting data on people’s social status. 14. What does the underlined word “mechanism” in Paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Principle B. Solution C. Measure D. Function 15. What might be the solution to the problem according to the text? A. Organizing activities involving rich and poor people. B. Building similar infrastructure in different neighborhoods. C. Placing frequently-visited centers between neighborhoods. D. Establishing more convenient centers for different people. 第二节(共5小题,每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Confidence is the capacity to convey your thoughts, emotions, and needs with both directness and respect. The doctors assured us that with treatment he would be able to walk normally — but would never run very well. The first three years of his life were spent in surgery, casts and braces. By the time he was eight, you wouldn’t know he had a problem when you saw him walk. The children in our neighborhood ran around as most children do during play, and Joey would jump right in and run and play, too. Although I was a little worried about his state, we never told him that he probably wouldn’t be able to run as well as the other children. So he didn’t know it. Every day after school, he would run and jump crazily, laughing cheerfully with his friends. Before bed, he was delighted to share everything that he enjoyed with me, and the brightness on his face drove away all my anxiety. In his seventh grade, the school planned to hold a cross-country race. On hearing the news, he jumped with joy, and he decided to go out for the cross-country team. What worried me most was the extreme strength and patience that was required for the race. However, his strong determination eventually changed my attitude towards the event. I made up mind to be in favor of him. Every day he trained with the team. He worked harder and ran more than any of the others — perhaps he sensed that the abilities that seemed to come naturally to so many others did not come naturally to him. Although the entire team runs, only the top seven runners have the potential to score points for the school. We didn’t tell him he probably would never make the team, so he didn’t know. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 One day, he got a fever, and I advised him to have a rest. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Two weeks later, the big day came. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 听力1-5 BBAAB 6-10 CBABC 11-15 BCACB 16-20 CAACC 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 重庆市名校联盟2024-2025学年度第一期第一次联合考试 英语试卷(高2025届) 本试卷共10页,满分150分。 How much is the shirt? This made them easy targets for Russian seal hunter.(斯特拉的海牛比现在的海牛和儒艮大得多,身长9-10米,体重约10吨。它们漂浮在沿海水域的表面,但不幸的是,它们几乎没有沉没的能力。这使它们成为俄罗斯海豹猎人的容易攻击目标。)”可知,斯特拉海牛因为无法在水中潜水而容易被捕猎。故选B。 【3题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第一段“Read on to discover a few of the animals which we have lost for our behaviors.(继续阅读以了解一些因我们的行为而失去的动物。)” A。 B In my early teens, I was once given a film camera as a gift. 5. He attempted to behave like an adult. 【答案】4. B 5. C 6. D 7. D 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了作者通过重拾青少年时代的摄影爱好重新获得快乐的故事。 【4题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段“I took many photos then and loved the fact that when you processed your film you got back colour photos which froze the precious moments, gently encouraging the hobby and the payments for processing.(那时我拍了很多照片,喜欢每次冲洗胶卷后都能得到彩色照片,这些照片冻结了珍贵的瞬间,温和地鼓励着我的爱好和为冲洗而支付的费用。)”可推断,对于作者小时候拍照这件事,作者觉得这是令人兴奋且值得的。故选B。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“The stress growing over these years had pushed the camera from beside my pillow to the box in the corner.(这些年来不断增长的压力已经把相机从我的枕头边推到了角落的盒子里。)”可知,作者停止拍照是因为他承受着越来越大的压力。故选C。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段“To me, the room represents how I’ve found happiness: by reconnecting to the younger part of myself I laid aside, by allowing room in my life for pleasure to exist, and by creating an environment that allows opportunities for delight.(对我而言,这个房间代表着我是如何找到幸福的:通过重新连接那个被我搁置的年轻自我,通过在我的生活中为快乐腾出空间,通过创造一个充满乐趣的机会的环境。)”可知,作者通过重新开始拍照,在繁忙的日程中获得了乐趣。故选D。 【7题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文及最后一段“To me, the room represents how I’ve found happiness: by reconnecting to the younger part of myself I laid aside, by allowing room in my life for pleasure to exist, and by creating an environment that allows opportunities for delight.(对我而言,这个房间代表着我是如何找到幸福的:通过重新连接那个被我搁置的年轻自我,通过在我的生活中为快乐腾出空间,通过创造一个充满乐趣的机会的环境。)”可知,文章讲述了作者通过重拾青少年时代的摄影这种兴趣爱好而收获快乐的故事。故D项“通过摄影重新获得乐趣”作为标题最为合适。故选D。 C Americans love their automobiles. 11 What can be inferred from the text? A. EV companies will immediately increase profits. B. Electric vehicles will overtake petrol cars. C. Petrol cars will dominate America’s car industry. D. The boom of EV industry still has a long way to go. 【答案】8. C 9. D 10. A 11. (但总拥有成本,包括五年的销售价格和运营成本,差异更大。一辆典型的电动汽车售价为6.5万美元,比一辆汽油车贵9000美元(原因包括家用充电器价格、保险费用更高,以及与欧洲和中国相比,汽油价格便宜)。)”可知,美国人不想买电动汽车,因为电动汽车的总成本很高。故选C项。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第三段中“Consumers’unwillingness to pay for expensive EVs is forcing carmakers to take action to shift stock (库存). Tesla has cut its prices several times in the past year. Carmakers are offering average discounts of almost 10% on their EVs, more than twice as generous as for petrol cars. (消费者不愿为昂贵的电动汽车买单,迫使汽车制造商采取行动转移库存。特斯拉在过去一年中多次降价。汽车制造商为其电动汽车提供的平均折扣接近10%,是汽油车的两倍多。)”可知,美国汽车制造商被迫在电动汽车上提供大幅折扣以销出库存,以应对电动汽车行业的低迷。故选D项。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“American carmakers are still hoping they can escape this vicious(恶性的)circle. They are mostly postponing their American EV investments rather than pulling the plug on them. (美国汽车制造商仍然希望他们能够摆脱这种恶性循环。他们大多推迟了对美国电动汽车的投资,而不是取消投资。)”可知,美国汽车制造商对电动汽车行业的未来持谨慎态度。故选A项。 由文章第一段“Americans love their automobiles. So long, it seems, as they don’t run on batteries. A survey published in July by the Pew Research Centre found that less than two- fifths of them would consider buying an electric vehicle(EV). Despite expanding charging networks and more EV models to choose from, that is a slightly lower share than the year before. B. By studying the frequency of interaction. C 13. 故填be drawn。 故填but。 故填as。 故填an。 故填is。 I find fascinating about Miao embroidery中缺宾语,由句意可知,应用连接代词what引导,表“什么”,且句首时首字母应大写。故填What。 故填to bring。 Dear Eric, I hope this email finds you well! _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Yours, Li Hua 【答案】Dear Eric, I hope this email finds you well! One day, he got a fever, and I advised him to have a rest. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Two weeks later, the big day came. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: One day, he got a fever, and I advised him to have a rest. However, he insisted on going to school as usual. Worried and concerned, I went to look for him after school. On the playground, I found him running all alone, his face pale. On seeing the scene, my tears welled up, and I asked him how he felt. “Okay,” he said breathlessly. “The race is approaching, and I must get well prepared for it!” Beads of sweat streamed down his neck and his face was red, yet he looked straight ahead and kept running. Two weeks later, the big day came. The names of the team runners were announced, and Joey was number six on the list. Joey had made the team. He was in seventh grade — the other six team members were all eighth-graders. When the race began, I cheered him on excitedly and he ran just like an arrow from the bowstring. Before I knew it, he was well ahead of others. It was obvious that he would be the champion. Seeing the bright smile on his face at the end of the track, I knew a lesson that there shouldn’t be any limitation to a heart to succeed. 2. 续写线索:建议Joey休息——Joey坚持训练——比赛日来临——Joey入围——Joey参加比赛获得好成绩——作者感悟 3 词汇激活 行为类 ①寻找:look for/search for ②临近:approach/come ③宣布:announce/declare ④跑,冲:run/rush/dash 情绪类 ①担心的:worried/concerned/anxious ②兴奋地:excitedly/with excitement/with thrill 【点睛】[高分句型1] Worried and concerned, I went to look for him after school. (形容词作状语) [高分句型2] It was obvious that he would be the champion. (it作形式主语、that引导主语从句) [高分句型3] Seeing the bright smile on his face at the end of the track, I knew a lesson that there shouldn’t be any limitation to a heart to succeed.
