That’s no mistake. Colorado’s current $5,000 tax credit (免税额度) is already the most generous state-level incentive (激励)available to all residents. With additional programs set to go live in the next few months, the state is now determined to test the full power of EV (Electric Vehicle) discounts — a pillar of the statewide plan to reduce carbon emissions. Gov. Jared Polis is betting the strategy can help reach a goal of putting nearly a million plug-in vehicles on the road by 2030. Here’s CPR’s guide to all of Colorado’s current and upcoming electric vehicle discounts: Colorado’s supercharged EV discounts Colorado residents can soon qualify for up to $26,500 in discounts for new electric vehicles. An elderly gentleman was standing by the side of a path, looking confused and lost. Just at that moment, a kind-hearted young girl approached him. She asked him gently what was wrong and listened patiently as he struggled to explain. Without hesitation, the girl took his hand and slowly guided him along the path, chatting with him to ease his anxiety. They walked together until they reached the place the old man was supposed to be. The old man smiled with thankfulness and relief. After helping the old man, the girl didn’t just leave. She spent some more time with him, sharing some interesting stories and making him laugh. The old man’s eyes sparkled with joy, and it was clear that this interaction had brightened his day. The girl’s kindness seemed to have an effect, as other people in the park also noticed and were inspired by her actions. I continued to observe as the girl then decided to stay with the old man for a while longer. They sat on a bench together, and the girl began to tell him about her own life, her dreams, and her adventures. The old man listened attentively, nodding and smiling from time to time. It was a beautiful sight to behold, this unlikely pair sharing such a genuine and heartwarming connection. This encounter made me reflect on the importance of kindness in our society. In a world that can often seem cold and hurried, acts like the girl’s are like the tower of light, showing us the way to a more empathetic (同情的) and caring existence. It also made me think about how we all have the potential to make a difference in someone else’s life, no matter how small the act may be. Now, whenever I recall this scene, it warms my heart and reminds me to be more willing to offer a helping hand, to spread kindness wherever I go, and to believe in the goodness that lies within each of us. 24.What did the girl do for the old man? A.She gave him a warm and comforting hug to make him feel better. B.She took his hand and guided him along the path to help him find the place he was supposed to be. C.She asked to take a photo with him to capture the moment. D.She went to a nearby store and bought him a refreshing drink. 25.How did the old man feel in the end? A.He felt extremely grateful and had a big smile on his face because he was happy. B.He was still hungry and sad as no one really cared about his needs. C.He felt fearful and angry because the girl was too pushy. D.He felt cold and tired as the walk was too long. 26.What can we infer about the author’s attitude? A.Doubtful. B.Disapproving. C.Negative. D.Admiring. 27.Where is this passage most likely from? A.A detailed and informative travel guide filled with places to visit. B.A complex and educational science textbook with various theories. C.A personal blog where the author shares personal experiences and thoughts. D.A trendy and fashionable magazine featuring the latest styles and trends. C On August 1, 2023, new rules went into effect in the United States that make it against the law to sell most incandescent (白炽的) light bulbs. Incandescent light bulbs have been common since the late 1800s. They use electricity to create light by heating a metal wire, which glows. Over 90% of the electricity used by the bulbs goes into making heat — not light. Since 2005, countries around the world have been banning incandescent bulbs. That’s what’s happening in the US. The new rules don’t actually make incandescent bulbs illegal. They just say that light bulbs that are sold must be able to create a certain amount of light (45 lumens) with a certain amount of energy (l watt). Most incandescent bulbs can only create about 15 lumens with 1 watt. These days, the best way to replace incandescent bulbs is with LED light bulbs. These bulbs can create about 75 lumens with 1 watt of electricity. And they can last 25 or more times longer than incandescent bulbs. Though the rule just took effect at the beginning of August, it was first created in 2007. Since then, the rule has been delayed many times, usually for political reasons. In the early 2000s, LED bulbs cost more money than they do today, and weren’t nearly as good. But in recent years, people have been switching over to LED lights, even without the rule. The lights have become more and more popular, since they use less energy and save people money by lasting longer. The new rules will also help the environment. Over the next 30 years, LED bulbs are expected to help prevent a huge amount of pollution in the US — about as much as would be used by 28 million homes in one year. That will be an imperative step in tackling the climate crisis. 28.Why does the author mention incandescent light bulbs in Paragraph 2? A.To explain how they work. B.To show they used to be important. C.To show they aren’t good lighting sources. D.To explain how light is usually made. 29.What do the new rules in America mean? A.New incandescent bulbs will be invented. B.Using incandescent bulbs has been prohibited. C.No more incandescent bulbs will be produced. D.Incandescent bulbs should be mostly replaced. 30.What is shown about LED bulbs? A.They’re great replacements for incandescent bulbs. B.They’re cheaper than incandescent bulbs. C.They’re widely used all over the world. D.They’re unknown to many Americans. 31.What does the underlined word “imperative” in the last paragraph probably mean? A.Workable. B.Important. C.Interesting. D.Challenging. D Honey is a simple pleasure. It’s easy to forget, while enjoying its luxurious sweetness on a slice of buttered toast, that it is the end-product of a complicated production line involving advanced biological machinery and thousands of skilled workers. Honey starts out as nectar (花蜜), a solution of various sugars that flowering plants produce to attract insects like butterflies and all kinds of bees. Most of these visitors drink it down on the spot as nutrition for themselves. A food-hunting worker bee, though, does things differently. The bee stores the nectar in its honey stomach rather than digesting it. The stomach can hold a lot of nectar, up to almost half the bee’s unloaded body mass, and filling it may require a thousand flower visits. The transformation of nectar into honey begins while the bee is still on the wing, as the honey stomach produces enzymes (酶) that break down the larger, complex sugar molecule (分子) into smaller ones. On arrival back at the hive, where bees live and work, the bee unloads the nectar by giving the sugary solution to other workers, who pass it back and forth between each other, adding more enzymes each time. Once it is sufficiently sticky, the mixture is laid down in the beeswax cells of the honeycomb and the workers continue the drying process by fanning it with their wings. Only when the water content has been reduced to about 18 percent (from about 75 percent in the original nectar) do they seal the cells with beeswax lids. At this point, it is well and truly honey. An average hive produces about 11 kg of honey in a season, which requires the bees to fly over 1.5 million kilometers between them. A standard jar of honey requires about 80,000 km. The effort that has gone into making honey is worth remembering when spreading it onto toast — it can surely only add to the pleasure. 32.Why does the worker bee store the nectar in its stomach? A.To digest better. B.To absorb its nutrition. C.To keep it for its future food. D.To share it with other bees. 33.What can be inferred from paragraph 3? A.The cells are sealed by sticky solution. B.Producing honey requires teamwork. C.The drying work is done by female bees. D.It’s critical to maintain water percentage. 34.How is the last paragraph developed? A.By listing figures. B.By giving definitions. C.By making comparisons. D.By providing examples. 35.Which may be a suitable title for the text? A.Skilled Workers B.A Simple Pleasure C.Advanced and Intelligent Creatures D.Luxurious Sweetness from Delicate Work Teamwork Doubles the Strength Admittedly, teamwork is literally important for any class or team to achieve its goals and objectives. Let me give three reasons why it is advantageous. As individuals, we possess diverse talents, strengths, weaknesses and experiences. A team is just like a tapestry (织锦) that weaves what each of us possesses, resulting in an end product that is diverse yet homogenous (同种类的). As team members exchange thoughts and experiences, there can be more efficiency and effectiveness at problem-solving. This pooling of talents can also lead to greater innovation and success. 36 . It won the Premier League in 2016, to the utter disbelief of many soccer fans. Leicester City, previously regarded as the underdog of the League, displayed extremely impressive teamwork, which led to its unbelievable victory in soccer history. Next, teamwork means members share the workload. When work is distributed and each of us in a team specializes in specific tasks, the stress on each of us is reduced and the completion of tasks before deadline is ensured. 37 . 38 . Team members learn from more experienced members who may offer deeper insights and perspectives. Newer members may also contribute new ideas. Besides encouraging the sharing of knowledge and experiences, teamwork also develops soft skills like communication and interpersonal skills. 39 . Some may think that working in isolation (单独) is more efficient since more time is taken when cooperating with others. For more talented individuals, working alone means being the star of a project. 40 . But, the loss of synergy (协同作用) that only team effort can generate may also prevent the team from reaching its full potential. A.Take Leicester City for example B.Thus we can expect greater job satisfaction C.Team members can also be divided in opinions D.They don’t need to share the success with others E.Let’s not wave away the chance to work in teams F.And finally working in a team multiplies learning opportunities G.We learn to respect differences in working styles and opinions, and develop trust 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从各题所给的A 、B、C和D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Julia Keller decided to quit journalism in order to write fiction. Her subversive (颠覆性的) message is that if at first you don’t succeed — or even if you do then may be just 41 . There is, she argues, too much of a premium (价值) placed on the ability to grit your teeth and 42 through misery. Last year’s TikTok trend for “Quit Toks” saw users live-streaming 43 emails or posting videos of themselves turning off the lights as they left the office. And now the desire to quit seems to be 44 in far earlier, with three-quarters of 18-to 29-year-olds feeling less motivated professionally post-pandemic. A generation raised to be constantly hustling (急速前进) may finally be pushing back. Yet for many of us, quitting remains shrouded (隐瞒) in guilt and shame, associated with failure rather than with pursuing a different kind of 45 . The idea that success in both public and private life involves pushing yourself to the 46 remains deeply ingrained (根深蒂固的), especially for those young enough to have grown up when the cult (热潮) of grit (勇气) and growth 47 was at its height. Keller fears the belief that success is a matter of never giving up may cover up the role of structural economic 48 and encourage people to blame the poor for their own poverty, on the grounds that they didn’t try hard enough. Similarly, the idea that women should stick it out through a 49 marriage can be equally damaging. Keller says: “Women in 50 relationships were told, ‘Oh you can’t leave, how can you give up now you’ve 51 in 10 years?’ It becomes insidious (暗中有害的).” She insists she’s not 52 giving up everything at the drop of the hat. For those who aren’t sure or can’t afford to leave a miserable situation, she suggests “quasi-quitting”, or quietly taking 53 steps that bring you closer to where you’d rather be without burning any 54 . Keller explains, “Because it may backfire in spectacular ways, eating away careers and blowing up relationships. It can ruin your life. And it can 55 it, too.” 41.A.giving out B.giving up C.giving in D.giving away 42.A.survive B.stand C.persevere D.go 43.A.informing B.registration C.apology D.resignation 44.A.kicking B.arising C.raising D.coming 45.A.goal B.success C.achievement D.contribution 46.A.edge B.cliff C.side D.limits 47.A.mindset B.state C.attitude D.perspective 48.A.prosperity B.inequalities C.strength D.fault 49.A.boring B.long C.miserable D.unlucky 50.A.abusive B.negative C.unpleasant D.forced 51.A.spent B.got C.thrown D.put 52.A.arguing B.appealing C.advocating D.enhancing 53.A.small B.tiny C.baby D.exploring 54.A.channel B.bridges C.roads D.ways 55.A.help B.restore C.save D.revolve As the Chinese saying goes, “Roads lead to riches.” And this is 56 Somxay Laolion, a Laotian driver on the China-Laos Railway, has observed over the past two-and-a-half years. My father, casting a brief glance in my direction through the reflective surface of the rearview mirror, offered a comforting remark, “Alex, this journey presents itself as an auspicious occasion for you to reconnect with your maternal and paternal elders.” The vehicle made a deliberate turn onto a well-trodden dirt path, one that I recognized all too well. We were progressively distancing ourselves from the urban confines, moving further away from the digital tendrils of the Internet, and even more so from the stimulating environment of the computer camp. “Brighten up, Alex!” exclaimed my mother, her voice carrying a note of optimism. “There is every likelihood that another opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of coding will arise shortly, perhaps even within this very summer season.” As the car continued its journey, I was acutely aware that all my companions in the realm of programming would be engaged in the act of coding at the computer camp this week, while I, on the other hand, was to be ensconced in the rural setting of a farm. I uttered not a single syllable, and in due course, the vehicle came to a halt in the driveway of my grandparents’ abode. A slender row of trees materialized into view, their presence a stark contrast to the urban landscape I was leaving behind. I had once taken pleasure in visiting the farm during the spring intermissions before my immersion into coding camps... and before the realization of the extent to which my actions could lead to chaos and disorder. The engine of the car had not yet ceased its hum when my grandmother, with an agility that belied her years, sprang towards us. From my vantage point in the backseat, I observed as my father and mother embraced my grandmother. I, in turn, reluctantly extracted myself from the vehicle, feeling as though the very force of gravity had grown unusually intense. “You both are certainly deserving of a respite,” my grandmother was saying, her words directed towards my parents. “Alex will be in good stead — he has always held a fondness for the farm.” She spoke in the past tense, implying that Alex had once cherished the farm. During the midday meal, my grandmother inquired, “Why such a somber countenance, Alex?” I maintained my silence. Why indeed? It seemed as though they were acting in ignorance of the events that had transpired during my previous visit. For a fleeting moment, my gaze met with my grandmother’s. Could I muster the courage to question her regarding the goats’ destruction of all the flora belonging to our neighbor, Mr. Jackson, an incident that occurred because I had inadvertently lifted the latch and allowed the goats to roam free? Was Mr. Jackson still seething with anger towards me for the considerable damage I had inadvertently caused him? “I am quite alright,” I muttered, my voice barely audible. “It is merely the absence of the coding camp this week that I am lamenting. Coding is an activity at which I excel.” My mother offered a nod of understanding. “Ah, that does sound disheartening, but the farm will undoubtedly offer you a different kind of experience.” After lunch, I was on my own when, out of nowhere, there’s Mr. Jackson. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Instead, Mr. Jackson yelled, “Great to see you here, Alex! S. EV tax credit, Oct., 2023”、“CO EV tax credit, Oct., 2023”、“CO low-cost EV tax credit, May, 2024”、“CO vehicle exchange program, Feb., 2024”、“Xcel Energy rebates, Nov., 2023”可知,“CO low-cost EV tax credit”将在2024年5月可用,是四个选项中可用的最晚的,故选C项。 24. 29.第三段中“The new rules don’t actually make incandescent bulbs illegal. They just say that light bulbs that are sold must be able to create a certain amount of light (45 lumens) with a certain amount of energy (l watt). These days, we all seem to be talking about the news that an electronic reading room will be opened. It is exciting indeed! An E-reading room, in our group view, is undoubtedly multi-functional. It is where we can keep ourselves informed of the latest news, where we can have access to various learning resources and where we can solve problems using modern technology, Chat GPT, for example. So an E-reading room, in today’s information age, can conveniently and efficiently meet our growing thirst for more information and knowledge. Hope that the E-reading room will be available soon! That’s all. Thank you! 第二节 67. After lunch, I was on my own when, out of nowhere, there’s Mr. Jackson. As I walked toward the barn, I thought about how he might still be upset with me for the goat incident, which happened because I accidentally unlatched the gate, letting the goats wander into his garden and devour everything in sight. Despite this, I couldn’t help but feel a bit relieved that he was the first person I saw. I hoped that he had forgiven me for the chaos that I had unintentionally caused. Instead, Mr. Jackson yelled, “Great to see you here, Alex! I need your help with a lamb’s birth.” Surprised by his enthusiasm, I wondered if he had forgotten about the damage that I had caused or if he genuinely needed assistance. As I approached him, I noticed the urgency in his eyes, which suggested that he really did require my help. Since I had always been good with technology and coding, assisting with something as organic as helping a lamb be born felt like a completely new challenge, one that I was unexpectedly eager to take on, despite my initial reluctance to be at the farm. The experience of helping bring a new life into the world was both challenging and rewarding, and it helped ease some of the tension between Mr. Jackson and me. Text1 W: It's January, and it's been raining the whole month. W: I guess one of the students hit their head on the diving board, because I saw that someone was sinking to the bottom of the pool. M: So, what did you do next? W: I jumped in the pool after their instructor jumped in and brought the kid back to the surface. It was a young girl, and she had swallowed a lot of water. M: Wow. Did you give her mouth-to-mouth? W: Of course. Then I told one of the kids to call for an ambulance. M: Quick thinking! W: The girl coughed the water up almost immediately, and just like that, it was over. We cleaned the wound and bandaged it up, and the emergency services arrived twenty minutes later. M: How was she? W: She had no memory of the past ten minutes. She wanted to go back in the pool. She didn't even know why her parents were crying. M: She must have been in shock. Text10 Hello, shoppers! This is the store manager. I have some special announcements for the holidays.
