B Nabilah Abdullah has been enthusiastically sculpting with clay for nearly 20 years, from one of a dozen workshops in the Sarawak Pottery Centre, just to the north of Kuching, Malaysia. Nabilah spends each morning making new works and each afternoon selling them from her shop, Ally Clay Crafts, in Kuching’s Steamship Building. Works in progress fill every shelf of Nabilah’s workshop. There are containers and pots waiting to be fired, and bowls about to be polished. There are a row of elegant leaf-shaped brooches (胸针), deep green and highly polished. “They’re made by pressing real leaves into the clay and making a unique imprint,” says Nabilah. “I take inspiration from nature- the rainforest is my supermarket.” But Nabilah’s consuming passion is a black pot. Evidence of pots like this has been uncovered in the Niah Caves, an archaeological hot spot in the north of the country where a skull was found that dates back around 60,000 years. Nabilah was inspired to create her own pot, following a visit to the Borneo Cultures Museum. The black pot was used to cook rice- the rounded bottom allowed the fire to heat it evenly. Nabilah travelled three hours into the rainforest to learn how to make these pots from an old man in his house. He showed Nabilah how it was done, pushing a smooth round stone down into a column of clay, then beating its outside with a wooden paddle until it took on the round shape of the stone. He was doing this just as his ancestors did thousands of years ago, following the same process and using the same tools. The only difference is that the pot will be finished in a kiln (窑) rather than an open fire, because the smoke pollution from the open fire is far too great. “Tradition is so important; it marks where we are from,” Nabilah adds. “Our ancestors were very clever and we mustn’t lose that wisdom. If I don’t do this and show others how to do it, the art will be lost forever. It’s my mission to preserve these skills for future generations.” 24. Why does the author mention Nabilah’s daily routine in paragraph 1? A. To advertise her works. B. To present her passion for work. C. To introduce her work environment. D. To highlight the features of her works. 25. What do we know about the brooches made by Nabilah? A. They wait to be polished. B. They feature shelf patterns. C. They sell well in supermarkets. D. They are based on physical objects. 26. What does paragraph 3 mainly tell us about Nabilah? A. Her show of black pots in a museum. B. Her discovery of ancient pots in caves. C. Her journey to learn traditional pot making. D. Her solution to using a kiln for making pots. 27. What word can best describe Nabilah? A. Responsible. B. Reserved. C. Humble. D. Humorous. C Switching food and drink purchases to very similar but more environmentally friendly alternatives could reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from household groceries by more than a quarter (26%), according to a new Australian study from The George Institute published in Nature Food. Making bigger changes — like swapping a frozen meat lasagne (宽面条) for the vegetarian option — could push the reduction to as much as 71%. Lead author Dr Allison Gaines said, “Dietary habits need to change significantly if we are to meet global emissions targets, particularly in high-income countries like Australia, the UK, and the US.” But while consumers are increasingly aware of the environmental impact of the food system, they lack reliable information to identify the more environmentally friendly options. Researchers calculated the projected emissions of annual grocery purchases from 7,000 Australian households in The George Institute’s FoodSwitch database and global environmental impact databasets. More than 22,000 products were assigned to major, minor and sub-categories of foods (e. g. ‘bread and bakery’, ‘bread’ and ‘white bread’, respectively) to quantify emissions saved by switching both within and between groups. Making switches within the same sub-categories of foods could lead to emission reductions of 26% in Australia, equivalent to taking over 1.9 million cars off the road. Switches within minor categories of foods could lead to even bigger emission reductions of 71%. The results of the study show the potential to significantly reduce our environmental impact by switching like-for-like products. “It showed that you can switch to lower emissions products while still enjoying nutritious foods,” Dr Gaines added. A free app, called ecoSwitch, has been developed currently available in Australia, based on this research. Shoppers can use their device to scan a product barcode and check its ‘Planetary Health Rating’, a measure of its emissions shown as a score between half a star (high emissions) to five stars (low emissions). “While ecoSwitch is a much-needed first step in providing environmental transparency (透明度) for grocery shoppers, the vision is for compulsive display of a single, standardised sustainability rating system on all supermarket products,” concluded pro f Neal, Professor of Clinical Epidemiology at Imperial College London. 28. What’s the function of paragraph 2? A. To set the stage for further explanation. B. To summarize the previous paragraph. C. To give supporting details for the writer’s argument. D. To make a comparison between different countries. 29. Why do researchers make a detailed classification for products? A. To set up a comprehensive database. B. To figure out the detailed food categories. C. To measure emissions reduced by switching food. D. To ensure less air pollution caused by food options. 30. What do we know about ecoSwitch? A. It is popular in high- income countries. B. It checks the emissions of star products. C. It is a measurement system for a supermarket. D. It ensures wiser choices for food purchase. 31. What’s the best title of the text? A. EcoSwitch—a Reminder of Food Safety B. Dietary habits—a Factor of Physical Health C. Food swaps—a Way of Environmental Sustainability D. Greenhouse gas emissions—a Cause of Environmental Crisis D An early text-to-video AI tool called ModelScope, while impressive, was deeply limited in its ability to accurately represent the text prompt — some users even described the video that it created as “nightmarish”. While a year later, text-to-video AI would blur the line between the digital and the real. If you’ve ever used a text-to-image generative AI tool like DALL-E, you’ll see that text-to-video tools work in a similar way. The user provides a prompt, like “cat swimming in a fish tank”, and the tool creates a video based on everything it knows about cats, water, fish and the physics of how they might interact. The tool makes use of what are known as “visual patches”, building blocks of data that help the AI to understand how everything in the scene should interact and progress, frame by frame. Tools based on a diffusion system, like OpenAI’s Sora, are trained to recognize objects so they can refine images by filtering out the incorrect visual patches. This process could be compared to a worker melting raw gold multiple times in order to remove all its flaws. One of the remarkable things about OpenAI’s Sora is that it can generate content in a variety of styles. When the project was disclosed last February, OpenAI claimed that “Sora can generate videos up to a minute long while maintaining visual quality and adherence (遵守) to the user’s prompt.” But there are constraints to Sora’s capabilities. As OpenAI shows in some demo videos, the physics of how objects interact in the videos doesn’t always make sense. Sometimes people or objects will blend together, transform into other things, disappear or appear out of nowhere. But if the technology can bound from the bizarre spaghetti video to where it is now in a year, these limitations probably won’t last long. Meanwhile, you can still experiment with simple text-to-video tools like invideo AI, a product that was created with marketing, content creation and education in mind. It’s perfect for creating online tutorials, “explainer” videos or providing visuals for a short story. 32. What can we infer from paragraph 1? A. ModelScope was widely praised. B. ModelScope can correctly analyse text to the users. C. Text-to-video AI received negative feedback eventually. D. Text-to-video AI has improved significantly over the past year. 33. How can OpenAI’s Sora improve images? A. By recognizing the objects around. B. By creating content in various styles. C. By removing inappropriate visual patches. D. By working in the same way as ModelScope. 34. What message does the last paragraph convey about invideo AI? A. It may fall out of use. B. It will be highly profitable. C. It may increase daily expenses. D. It will take ages to see the future result. 35. What is the main idea of the passage? A. A great leap for creative AI. B. The functions of various AI tools. C. The limitations of OpenAI’s Sora. D. A demonstration of making a video. Vertical (垂直的) farming involves using vertically piled layers and other innovative resources to help your crops grow. 36 You get to grow your plants while using the small space at home. Below are some benefits of vertical farming for small house owners. Reduce water usage. Watering a vertical garden is easy, simple, and uses less water. If your plants are grown in a traditional way, you’ll need lots of water to keep up with your plants’ growth. 37 Save space. As a small, house owner, space is a big concern. However, vertical farming ensures that you can create a garden in your home and fully enjoy the experience. 38 So, if you aim to save space in your home and still have a garden, vertical farming is perfect. 39 Vertical farming is mainly done indoors and entirely depends on you to provide the best conditions. With commitment, you can continuously ensure consistent food production despite the seasons. Cut down on chemicals and pesticides. Vertical gardens will not require you to invest in pesticides and chemical fertilizers to keep your plants alive. In addition, insects will not have easy access to your plants since you’ll be gardening in a controlled environment. 40 A. Increase food production. B. Produce food consistently. C. Having a garden means you need to work with the space available. D. It comes in handy without causing any inconvenience to your living arrangements. E. However, if you invest in vertical farming, your water usage will dramatically drop. F. So the food grown is organic and safe for consumption making it an excellent choice. G. In my head, I could hear the words my father kept telling me, “Do it, Stephanie. You never do anything for yourself. Just set it up.” I felt my lungs filled with air and released it. “Did you sign up?” my father asked. When he saw the drumsticks in my hand, he smiled and then came to hug me. Wednesday came, and along with it was my first drum lesson. I walked through the door and headed directly to the seating area in the back. My hands kept fidgeting (摆弄) with the sticks. I kept nervously looking at the time. I tried to slow down my breath. I knew the teacher would say I was not the right type of person to play the drums. I turned around to see an old man looking at me. “Stephanie? I’m Mike, the drum teacher,” he said. He led me to a room. There were two drum sets, and he told me to sit at the one close to the door. Out of the door gathered the crowd, chatting and chuckling. People made me nervous. That’s the way I’d always been. But Mike had a very calm manner, so I relaxed just slightly. Not only did he not tell me that I was the wrong type of person to play the drums, but he praised me on how well I held the sticks and followed along with him. I learned how to read simple sheets of music, but then my thirty- minute lesson was over. Walking back to my father’s car, I felt the energy beaming from within me. It was the first time that I had done something purely for my enjoyment, something just for myself. I practiced as much as I could throughout the week. Even my four-year-old dog Pluto often complained that I never played with it. My second lesson came, and I played the sheets of music for Mike. I noticed as I played that Mike’s concentration became more and more apparent. When I finished the whole lesson, Mike said “You played that perfectly!” Paragraph 1: After months of playing, one day, Mike invited me to play at a small concert. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Paragraph 2: Walking up on the stage, I took a deep breath and sat at the drum set. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 16 / 16 原创精品资源学科网独家享有版权,侵权必究! ………………○……………… … 学校: ______________ 姓名: _____________ 班级: _______________ 考号: ______________________ ) 绝密★启用前 2025届高考英语阶段性仿真押题卷(八省高考卷)考试版 (考试时间:120分钟 试卷满分:150分) 注意事项: 1. 1. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ( 4 )原创精品资源学科网独家享有版权,侵权必究! Where is the passage most probably taken from? A. A radio programme. B. A culture magazine. C. A history book. B18. A19. C20. The desire to stay cool is, of course, nothing new. The ancient Egyptians and Romans employed various techniques to cool down their buildings from the outside heat. Some people have even claimed that the first air conditioning device was invented in ancient Egypt. The ancient Egyptians would hang wet plants outside their windows, and when the air came into the house, it would be cooled by the cool water drops on the plants. The Romans understood that if they could bring cold water under their houses, then the temperature inside would fall. And if we really stretch the meaning of the phrase “air conditioning”, then hand fans have been used since the very beginning of the history. People realized that they could move air by waving something and it would cool them down for a while. The Chinese inventor Ding Huan went a step further in the second century and invented a fan that could go around, similar to fans we might see today, although it was powered by servants. That’s all for today. Please stay tuned for more updates. A With the London Pass, you can experience everything London has to offer. B. Reserved. C. Humble. D. Humorous. B 25. D 26. C 27. 根据文章第一段“Nabilah Abdullah has been enthusiastically sculpting with clay for nearly 20 years, from one of a dozen workshops in the Sarawak Pottery Centre, just to the north of Kuching, Malaysia. Nabilah spends each morning making new works and each afternoon selling them from her shop, Ally Clay Crafts, in Kuching’s Steamship Building.(纳比拉·阿卜杜拉已经热情地用陶土雕塑了近20年,地点是在马来西亚古晋市北部沙巴州陶艺中心的一个车间里(该中心有十几个车间)。纳比拉每天早上都会创作新的作品,而每天下午则会在她位于古晋市汽船大厦的店铺“艾利陶土工艺品店”里出售这些作品。)”可推知,在第一段中提到Nabilah的日常习惯是为了展示她对工作的热情。故选B。 25. 细节理解题。根据文章第二段““They’re made by pressing real leaves into the clay and making a unique imprint,” says Nabilah. “I take inspiration from nature- the rainforest is my supermarket.”(纳比拉说:“它们是通过将真实的叶子压入陶土中,制作出独特的印记而成的。我从大自然中获取灵感——雨林就是我的超市。”)”可知,Nabilah制作的胸针是以实物为基础的。故选D。 26. 主旨大意题。根据文章第三段“But Nabilah’s consuming passion is a black pot. Evidence of pots like this has been uncovered in the Niah Caves, an archaeological hot spot in the north of the country where a skull was found that dates back around 60,000 years…. The only difference is that the pot will be finished in a kiln (窑) rather than an open fire, because the smoke pollution from the open fire is far too great.( 但纳比拉最热衷的是制作一个黑陶罐。 根据文章最后一段““Tradition is so important; it marks where we are from,” Nabilah adds. “Our ancestors were very clever and we mustn’t lose that wisdom. If I don’t do this and show others how to do it, the art will be lost forever. It’s my mission to preserve these skills for future generations.”(“传统非常重要;它标志着我们来自哪里,”纳比拉补充道。“我们的祖先非常聪明,我们不能失去他们的智慧。如果我不做这件事,不向其他人展示如何去做,那么这门艺术就会永远消失。将这门技艺传承给后代是我的使命。”)”可知,最后一段提到Nabilah认为传统很重要,她的祖先很聪明,她不能让这种智慧丢失,她有责任将这些技能保留下来传给后代。因此,最能描述Nabilah的词是“有责任心的”(Responsible)。故选A。 C Switching food and drink purchases to very similar but more environmentally friendly alternatives could reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from household groceries by more than a quarter (26%), according to a new Australian study from The George Institute published in Nature Food. Greenhouse gas emissions—a Cause of Environmental Crisis 【答案】28. A 29. C 30. D 31. D 33. C 34. B 35. 根据文章第一段“An early text-to-video AI tool called ModelScope, while impressive, was deeply limited in its ability to accurately represent the text prompt — some users even described the video that it created as “nightmarish”. Therefore, it’s natural for us to meet with difficulties in our growth. Faced with them, we should keep calm and have an optimistic attitude. As for me, I once had difficulty in balancing my study and life. As a result, I failed in many exams of the first year. Luckily, I was not discouraged by this. Instead, I made a detailed time schedule with the help of teachers and carried out it strictly, which helped me make great progress in my study. Also I can successfully balance my life and study. When I finished the whole lesson, Mike said “You played that perfectly!” 注意:(1)续写词数应为150左右;(2)开头已给出。 Paragraph 1: After months of playing, one day, Mike invited me to play at a small concert. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Paragraph 2: Walking up on the stage, I took a deep breath and sat at the drum set. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 After months of playing, one day, Mike invited me to play at a small concert. Practicing drumming became an essential part of my daily routine. The hours spent honing my skills were not just about mastering the instrument; they’re about discipline and love. My father, watching with a gentle smile, often stood by the door. His words of encouragement soothed my anxiety. With each nod of his head and every proud grin, my determination skyrocketed. Finally, the big day came. Walking up on the stage, I took a deep breath and sat at the drum set. Lights flashing, I began to play. My hands moved swiftly, striking the drumheads with precision and power, each hits ending vibrations through the air that seemed to capture the audience’s hearts. The rhythm intensified, building like a storm, and the crowd watched in awe, their eyes glued to my every move. As the final beat hit, the air was filled with an electrifying energy, and the yard erupted in applause. Their applause was recognition to the power of music and me. “Stephanie, yes, you can do anything that you like!” I grinned with delight, drumsticks in my hands. 词汇激活 行为类 ①爆发:erupt in/burst into ②充满:be filled with /be full of ③捕捉:capture/catch 情绪类 ①爱:love/affection ②高兴:delight/joy 【点睛】[高分句型1] Practicing drumming became an essential part of my daily routine.
