(2024-2025学年高二上·江苏苏州·阶段练习)Up a rocky cliff face, through a narrow opening, and at the end of a snaking passage lies a painting that archaeologists say is the world’s oldest known example of storytelling in art history.
Located inside the limestone cave of South Sulawesi, the picture portrays three humanlike figures interacting with a wild pig. The painting, made with a red pigment (颜料), is at least 51,200 years old, according to a study published Wednesday in the scientific journal Nature.
It’s the latest prehistoric art to be found in the area’s fascinating limestone caves. Three rough-skinned pigs painted on a cave wall that some of the same researchers reported on in 2021 was previously the world`s oldest depiction of an animal — at 45,500 years old.
While younger than some abstract art found in South Africa, it’s the oldest of a narrative (叙事性的) scene, the authors of the study said.
“We, as humans, define ourselves as a species that tells stories, and these are the oldest evidence of us doing that,” said study author Maxime Aubert, a professor at Griffith University’s Griffith Centre for Social and Cultural Research in Australia.
“The painter or painters are conveying more information about images than just individual static images. They are telling us how to look at them in association,” he said, “These narrative artworks seem to have been very important to these early people in Sulawesi.”
The cave art discoveries have challenged a longstanding belief that artistic expression — and the cognitive leap that fired up the human imagination — began in Europe. In doing so, the cave paintings in Indonesia are shedding new light on the early story of humanity.
“My sense is that storytelling has a great antiquity and while we have long lost the oral stories, we have the visual counterparts of these stories to prove it,” said Nowell, an archaeologist at the University of Victoria in Canada, who wasn’t involved in the research.
“It’s also unclear why so much cave art has been found in this region of Indonesia,” Aubert said, but the finds implied that humans had a rich culture of storytelling, using scenic representation to tell visual stories about human-animal relationships.
8.What do we know about the newly discovered painting?
A.It depicts three rough-skinned pigs. B.It is the world’s first abstract artwork.
C.It defines human beings as story tellers. D.It is an artwork discovered in Indonesia.
9.What is the importance of narrative artworks in Sulawesi?
A.Art serves as a tool for cooking and hunting.
B.They connect images, giving more information.
C.They represent individual thoughts at that time.
D.Individual static images hold no value in history.
10.How does this discovery challenge previous beliefs about artistic expression?
A.It suggests that cave art originated in Africa long ago.
B.It shows that prehistoric humans had very high artistic abilities.
C.It proves that some ancient art was narrative not just static images.
D.It shifts the focus from Europe as the only origin of artistic expression.
11.What does the underlined word “antiquity” mean in paragraph 8?
A.An old age. B.Modern era.
C.Timeless beauty. D.Permanent damage.
【答案】8.D 9.B 10.D 11.A
根据第二段“Located inside the limestone cave of South Sulawesi, the picture portrays three humanlike figures interacting with a wild pig. (这幅画位于苏拉威西岛南部的石灰岩洞穴内,描绘了三个类似人类的人物与一头野猪互动)”和最后一段中“It’s also unclear why so much cave art has been found in this region of Indonesia,(目前还不清楚为什么在印度尼西亚的这个地区发现了这么多的洞穴艺术)”可知,新发现的这幅画是在印度尼西亚发现的。故选D项。
9.细节理解题。根据第六段““The painter or painters are conveying more information about images than just individual static images. They are telling us how to look at them in association,” he said, “These narrative artworks seem to have been very important to these early people in Sulawesi.”(“画家或画家们传达了更多关于图像的信息,而不仅仅是单个静态图像。它们告诉我们如何将它们联系起来看待,”他说,“这些叙事艺术品似乎对苏拉威西岛的早期居民非常重要。”)”可知,叙事性艺术品在苏拉威西的重要性在于它们将图像联系起来,传达了更多的信息。故选B项。
10.推理判断题。根据第七段“The cave art discoveries have challenged a longstanding belief that artistic expression — and the cognitive leap that fired up the human imagination — began in Europe. In doing so, the cave paintings in Indonesia are shedding new light on the early story of humanity. (洞穴艺术的发现挑战了一个长期以来的信念,即艺术表达——以及激发人类想象力的认知飞跃——始于欧洲。在这样做的过程中,印度尼西亚的洞穴壁画为人类早期的故事提供了新的线索)”可知,这一发现挑战了以前关于艺术表达的信念:即艺术表达起源于欧洲。由此推知,这一发现将艺术表达起源的焦点从欧洲转移到了亚洲,提供了新的视角。故选D项。
11.词句猜测题。根据第一段“Up a rocky cliff face, through a narrow opening, and at the end of a snaking passage lies a painting that archaeologists say is the world’s oldest known example of storytelling in art history. (在岩石峭壁上,穿过一个狭窄的开口,在蜿蜒通道的尽头,有一幅画,考古学家说这是艺术史上已知的最古老的讲故事的例子)”及划线词后文“and while we have long lost the oral stories, we have the visual counterparts of these stories to prove it,” said Nowell, an archaeologist at the University of Victoria in Canada, who wasn`t involved in the research.(虽然我们早已失去了口头故事,但我们有这些故事的视觉对应物来证明这一点,”加拿大维多利亚大学的考古学家诺威尔说,他没有参与这项研究)”可知,讲故事有着悠久的历史。由此可知,划线词antiquity“年代久远”与A项“an old age”意思相近。故选A项。

(2024-2025学年高二上·河南·阶段练习)“Cheese” is a word that brings joy to Pierre Brisson, the founder of France’s first cheese museum, who is passionate about the subject — not just eating it but passing on the traditional skills of cheese-making to future generations.
“It’s not an easy job but a wonderful one and there is a real risk that it could disappear,” he said. “Although people like eating it and the demand for cheese is still high, fewer youngsters want to make a career out of it.”
Visitors to the museum can watch a demonstration of how various cheeses are made, take part in a tasting and learn the history of cheese and regional varieties through interactive shows.
Brisson, 38, said his passion for cheese developed as a boy. “My father would take me to the cheese store every Sunday.” After studying at the National Dairy Industries School, Brisson set up Paroles de Fromagers to run courses in cheese-making for the public and training for professionals. He chose to locate the museum in Paris to attract the French and tourists and to avoid regional competition.
Brisson has worked with half a dozen cheese-makers to help visitors understand the art of producing different varieties from raw milk, as well as the role of bacteria, the animals and the land on which they eat.
Agathe de Saint-Exupéry will be one of the experts explaining the process, including how makers “read” the milk and how small details can affect the final product. “It’s a very individual process that depends on so many things, even the mood of the animals whose milk is being used. You can make the same good cheese every day, and every day it will taste different. It just cannot be done industrially,” she said.
Brisson said the museum would be a “little window” on country life in the heart of the capital. “My dream is that in 20 years’ time, someone will say they decide to become a cheese-maker after visiting the museum.”
12.What can we know about cheese-making according to the text?
A.It is easy to master. B.It fails to attract the young.
C.It has its roots in France. D.It involves a standard process.
13.What is the author’s purpose in writing paragraph 4?
A.To describe Brisson’s working experiences.
B.To show the influence of the museum.
C.To add some background information.
D.To introduce a new topic of discussion.
14.Why can’t cheese be mass-produced?
A.It doesn’t sell well. B.Its raw material is rare.
C.It is hard to store. D.Its taste varies considerably.
15.What is a suitable title for the text?
A.The Museum of Cheese B.The Story of a Cheese-Maker
C.The Art of Cheese-Making D.The Future of Cheese-Making
【答案】12.B 13.C 14.D 15.A

根据第四段中“Brisson, 38, said his passion for cheese developed as a boy. ‘My father would take me to the cheese store every Sunday.’ After studying at the National Dairy Industries School, Brisson set up Paroles de Fromagers to run courses in cheese-making for the public and training for professionals.(38岁的布里松说,他对奶酪的热爱从小就开始培养。‘我父亲每个星期天都会带我去奶酪店。’在国家乳制品工业学校学习后,布里松创立了Paroles de Fromagers,为公众开设奶酪制作课程,并为专业人士提供培训)”可知,本段主要介绍了Pierre Brisson对奶酪的热爱以及他创立奶酪制作课程和培训的经历,这是为了补充一些关于Pierre Brisson的背景信息。故选C项。
14.细节理解题。根据第六段中“You can make the same good cheese every day, and every day it will taste different. It just cannot be done industrially,(你可以每天做同样的好奶酪,但每天的味道都会不同。它不能工业化生产)”可知,奶酪的味道每天都会有所不同,因此不能大规模生产。故选D项。
15.主旨大意题。根据第一段中“‘Cheese’ is a word that brings joy to Pierre Brisson, the founder of France’s first cheese museum(‘奶酪’这个词给法国第一家奶酪博物馆的创始人Pierre Brisson带来了欢乐)”以及全文内容可知,文章主要介绍了法国第一家奶酪博物馆及其创始人Pierre Brisson对奶酪的热爱和传承奶酪制作传统技艺的看法,因此最适合本文的标题是“奶酪博物馆”。故选A项。

It was time for the annual Potato-Salad Contest in Russet Park. After trying for the third time, Alexis shook her head sadly. There was no way she would win the Golden Potato again because Grandpa wasn’t here this year.
Memories of how Grandpa taught her to make potato rose in her mind. She sighed and missed Grandpa so much.
Alexis cut the potatoes and mixed the boiled potatoes, some sauces and a little salt and peppers in a bowl. But it didn’t taste right. Alexis tried a bite of the salad mixture, wondering what was missing. Seeing her frown, Mom suggested, “What about something spicy? Your Grandpa loved spicy things.”
“You’re right! Maybe he put a jalapeno pepper in it,” Alexis said, cutting up a bright green jalapeno and adding it to the bowl.
It was closer, but it still didn’t taste right. Alexis was drooping her head, disappointed. “Should we look in a cookbook?”
“Grandpa was never one to follow a recipe,” Dad entered the kitchen and said.
It was true. People loved Grandpa’s potato salad because it was one of a kind. Alexis remembered posing with Grandpa for a photo while they were making the salad.
Photo! That gave her an idea. Alexis hurried to the bookcase and found an old photo album. She immediately flipped it open, expecting to find clues in the photos there. Lots of photos showed Grandpa and Grandma cooking together. Dad laughed, “He and Grandma loved to tease each other but he always called her Honey.”
“Do you think he put honey in the potato salad?” Mum asked.
“It is worth a try,” said Alexis. She stirred some honey into the bowl.
But it still wasn’t quite right. Alexis’ heart sank, on the verge of giving up. Dad kept flipping the album. At the end of the album was the picture of Grandpa and Alexis making the salad together.

Heart raising, she held the salad to her family and waited for their try.
With hesitation, the family tasted the potato salad with onions in it. Nodding their heads at the same time, smile flickered across everyone’s face. They eventually figured out Grandpa’s recipe. Finally, Alexis completed the salad and took part in the contest. As the result that Alexis’s potato salad won was announced, Alexis was thinking about Grandpa, her tears welling up uncontrollably.
