Spring is a fine season. It lights up people's moods and brings hope. When you bath in the warm spring breeze, what comes into your mind? Let's see what poets Meng Haoran from China and William Blake from the UK wrote about spring.
A Spring Morning
( By Meng Haoran)
This spring morning in bed I'm _▲_,
Not to awake till birds are crying.
After one night of wind and showers,
How many are the fallen flowers?
( Translated by Xu Yuanchong)
Spring
( By William Blake, UK)
Sound the flute! Lark(云雀) in sky,
Now it's mute(无声的). Merrily,
Bird's delight(快乐). Merrily, merrily,
Day and night. to welcome the year.
Nightingale(夜莺), In the dale(山谷).
( Partial excerpt)
The first poem might be one of the most famous poems about spring in China. It's simple and catchy. The poet doesn't directly say how much he loves spring. Instead, he writes about details of the season: the birds, the wind, the rain showers and the fallen flowers. The way he talks about these things shows us the joy he feels during springtime. Instead of talking about the bright colours of flowers, Meng writes about the sounds of spring. He hears birds singing in the morning and remembers the sounds of the wind and rain at night. Writing about these sounds allows readers to picture spring using their own imagination (想象).
William Blake's poem celebrates the coming of spring as a source of joy. As spring comes, nature leaps into a new life, and the new year begins. People ask for the flute to be sounded as it is quiet everywhere. This will mean the end of the lifeless winter's silence. The birds in the poem are joyful day and night.

53. According to the passage, both Meng Haoran and William Blake .

No matter where you live, you may hear about the natural disasters. They bring many serious problems to people in disaster areas. They become ill, homeless and some of them even die in the disasters.
Japan is located in East Asia, but it is an island in the North Pacific Ocean. Japan has more than1,000 islands, but there are four main islands. Lots of rains fall in Japan at a lot of times of a year, especially in summer. There is a rainy season in early summer, and typhoons hit parts of the country every year during late summer.
The heavy rains usually destroy the crops and plants. What's worse, the rains usually cause huge floods. Floods in Japan can take away many things, including many people's lives. A Japanese housing developer recently invented a“ flood- resistant house”. It can not only keep water out of the house during floods but also float off(漂浮) the ground.
Because of floods, the loss of housing is a difficult problem all over the world. While engineers are trying to find solutions, few ways are useful. Now, the Japanese housing developer tells the public that he came up with an answer the other day. It can keep people's homes from getting flooded. Their new “ flood- resistant house” was recently on a popular Japanese TV show and received much attention online.
According to engineers, most houses will be in the flood when water reaches the windows, but their“ flood- resistant house” can float up to five metres above the ground, so water will not reach the windows, and everything else is shut in the house safely.
54. What is the main idea of Para. 1?
A. Natural disasters bring people much trouble. B. Natural disasters may happen everywhere.
C. Natural disasters always make people ill. D. Natural disasters can be heard every day.
55. Which of the following is TRUE?
A. Typhoons hit parts of Japan in early summer.
B. The floods mainly happen in Japan in autumn.
C. Japan is an island in the East Pacific Ocean.
D. Heavy rains cause floods in Japan in summer.

A. To protect people from earthquakes. B. To reduce the loss of housing in floods.
C. To keep people away from the ocean. D. To protect people from typhoons.
57. What can we infer from the passage?
A. The“ flood- resistant house” can fly high up into the sky.
B. The“ flood- resistant house” is popular all around the world.
C. Japanese people might build more“ flood- resistant houses”.
D. Japanese engineers are living in the“ flood- resistant house”.
C
The debate (争论) on“ computers vs. textbooks” has been going on for years. How much technology is enough in the classroom? Should notebook computers take the place of (取代) textbooks?
There is no doubt that computers are powerful tools. Computer- based lesson plans are updated(更新) in real time. New information can be added as soon as changes take place. Students can find the newest information for the subjects they are studying.
With computers, students can learn how to use them for the rest of their lives. Today, computers are used in almost all areas. Students can prepare themselves better for the future if they have computers.
However, I think textbooks must stay. Textbooks are professionally edited(编写). All the facts have been checked. They are put together in the best way. Each chapter builds on what a student has learned before. On the Internet, however, not all the information is true or organized.
With textbooks, it is easier for students to take notes. Scientists have found that taking notes by hand helps students learn more.
Textbooks are also less expensive than computers. While most families have enough money for textbooks, not all of them can buy a computer. Every student should have the chance to learn what he needs to learn. It's wrong to rob a student of his right to learn just because he can't buy the material.
Computers are of great importance in education. They encourage students to learn more. However, I don't think they can take the place of textbooks. If students want to learn better, they must use textbooks. Do you agree with me?
58. The writer asks two questions in Para. 1 in order to .
A. raise his/ her question B. get readers' replies
C. go on with the writing D. introduce textbooks
59. Which of the following statements is TRUE?
A. Computers are playing an important role in education.
B. Students can't prepare for the future without computers.
C. All the facts in textbooks come from the Internet.
D. With computers, students needn't take any notes.
60. Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage?
61. Which of the following might the writer agree with?
A. Students can learn better without textbooks.
B. Computers can't take the place of textbooks.
C. It is better for students to study with computers.
D. Textbooks are the only way for students to learn.

Derrick Downey was relaxing on his balcony in Los Angeles when a squirrel suddenly appeared. They looked at each other for a few seconds, and then the man asked the squirrel,“ Do you want something to eat?”“ It seemed like he did, so I told him, ‘ Stay here. I’ ll be right back,” Downey recalled(回忆).
Downey found some peanuts(花生) in his kitchen and hurried back to the balcony. The squirrel was still there, so Downey thought he was listening to him. When he held out his hand with the peanuts, the animal pulled his hand closer and started eating. Downey had been feeling down, and this special meeting cheered him up.
Since that day in 2020, the squirrel has continued to come to Downey's balcony for treats. Sometimes, he brings his friend. Downey named the pair Richard and Maxine. He shared a video of himself feeding and talking to the squirrels. The video quickly went viral. Downey was excited that his social media followers liked the animals as much as he did, so he started posting everyday videos of Richard and Maxine. In a recent one, he tried to teach Maxine a lesson.“ You’ re not always going to have the best of days.” he said.“ When life is down, don’t put too much pressure(压力) on yourself.”
Downey has also built a house for the squirrels. He encourages his followers ( there are now more than one million of them) to join him in decorating it. He has received paintings, small furniture, houseplants and even a working mini-TV. The man said he didn't expect to reach so many people with his squirrel videos. He has always loved animals, and he was just following his heart.

阅读下面短文,从短文后选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
We all want deep, long friendships with other people. Making friends, however, is as simple as it is difficult. 66 Here is some experts’(专家的) advice.
Accept the awkwardness (尴尬).
Heather Havrilesky is an agony aunt(答读者问专栏作者). She points out that believing other people also need friends is important to making friends.“ Many people think that everybody already has his or her friends.” she says.“ 67 Nobody already has their friends.”
It is uncomfortable to send the first message or play one- on- one for the first time. You have to accept that awkwardness. You can't have friends without feeling awkward.
Spend time on your hobbies.
If you ask people how you can make new friends, many of them will tell you to try picking up a hobby. Havrilesky says that this truly works.“ Do the things you like, and you will naturally draw people to you.” she says.“ You will meet people with the same hobbies.”
You may start with your favorite hobby. If it doesn't work out, remind yourself that you have many talents. 68
69
If you want to have deep friendships, you have to take care of them. In her book The Art of Showing Up, Rachel Wilkerson Miller shares two tips on strengthening friendships:(1) Take notes. Your notes will help you remember your conversations with your friends. 70 (2) Remember the names of people in your friends’ lives. You may ask to see pictures of the people they are talking about. They will help you to better remember these people in the future.
A. You don't have to be interested in just one thing.
B. Why do you want to make friends?
C. They will offer you points of connection later.
D. Do you find it hard to make new friends?
E. You don't have to share you hobbies with others.
F. Care about your friends.
G. This is a wrong idea.

Can you cook by yourself? Do you like the homework of making a meal? These days, primary and middle school students have to take the Practical Activity Class (实践活动课) at least one class hour every week. Parents and students mostly discussed the topic of cooking. Learning practical skills plays an important role in shaping a person's character for sure.
Some schools and students have already practised their practical activities. Gu Quan, 13 years old, from No.18 Middle School, was a lazy boy in the past. In his own words, he seldom did any housework. But things have changed since No.18 Middle School made housework part of its students' homework. Doing the dishes, cooking and making the bed... All of these tasks have become part of Gu Quan's daily life.
At the beginning of each month, every student gets a list of housework to do every weekend. Their parents help them keep a record of their work. The tasks are simple in daily life, such as sweeping the floor, washing cups and cooking food. On holidays like Mother's Day, students should prepare presents for their mothers. Huang Yixi, 14, has learned several life skills, including cooking.“I was afraid of fire,” she said. But she managed to get over her fear and complete her cooking tasks. At the same time, she also learned how tired her mother gets after doing housework every day. On Mother's Day, she made a cake for her mother to show her thanks.“I' ve begun to better understand my parents and want to help them more,” she said.
