B Saodat Sadikova is an English teacher in Jizzakh, Uzbekistan. As a young girl, she dreamed of becoming a flight attendant (空乘人员) and traveling the world, so she learned at least three languages. Although she was not able to become a flight attendant, Sadikova could speak Uzbek, Russian, English and Turkish. Sadikova has never traveled abroad but reports feeling connected to people around the world. American Trina Bright worked in education for nearly 25 years and she traveled to many countries, including China and South Africa. Bright used stories from her travels to help her students in the U. S. understand their place in the world and see value in their own cultures. But Bright, unlike Sadikova, does not report feeling connected to people around the world. Bright is not alone. Pew Research Center recently asked people in 24 countries a series of questions about how connected they feel to the world to see how travel experience relates to feelings of connectedness. The study found that respondents (调查对象) who had traveled to at least one other country feel more connected to people around the world. 99 percent of respondents in the Netherlands reported having visited at least one other country and 77 percent of respondents from the Netherlands said they feel at least somewhat close to people all over the world. But international travel does not always mean a person feels a closeness to people around the world. 99 percent of Swedish respondents said they had visited at least one other country. Yet a much smaller number of Swedish respondents—47 percent—report feeling close to people all over the world. Sadikova said she felt connected to the world because of media, which makes it quite easy to get to know events and news. 4. Why did Saodat Sadikova learn several languages? A. To move abroad. B. To broaden her view. C. To connect to the world. D. To achieve her flying dream. 5. What benefit did Trina Bright get from her travels? A. She improved her education. B. B. The process of the research. C. The result of the research. D. The method of the research. C If you thought that your child’s academic performance is based simply on the number of hours spent on studying, you are wrong. Good grades are a result of multiple factors, everything from the child’s brains to the environment they are in. And one of the major, mostly ignored, influencing factor is physical health. Physical activity and health actually can improve a person’s ability to learn. According to the National Academy of Medicine, exercise can improve a child’s cognitive abilities, health, and academic performance significantly. According to a study by the University of British Columbia, regular aerobic exercise betters the functioning of the hippocampus, the area of the brain involved in learning and memory. Other forms of exercise like balance exercises, muscle exercises, and resistance training did not have the same result on the brain. The effect of exercise on memory and thinking is both direct and indirect. Directly, regular exercise gives the ability to increase the release of growth factors. These growth factors are chemicals in the brain that affect the growth of new blood vessels, the health of brain cells, as well as the survival of new brain cells. On the other hand, getting enough exercise will improve sleep quality and mood. It will also reduce stress and anxiety. It is believed that the benefits of exercise during the school day are greater than those coming from increasing class time. Furthermore the greatest cognitive benefits from physical education have been seen to come about when physical education was given either in the first half of the day or midday rather than at the end of the day. In order to get the children moving, rest time, PE classes, biking or walking to school should be promoted (推动). Activities like after-school sports that used to be held at school should be restarted. Physical activity should not be seen as a dispensable choice but as an important educational concern. 8. Which of the following exercises is best for learning and memory? A. Regular aerobic exercise. B. Balance exercise. C. Muscle exercise. D. Resistance training. 9. How does exercise influence thinking indirectly? A. By releasing growth factors in large numbers. B. By influencing the growth of new blood vessels. C. By affecting the survival of new brain cells. D. By improving a person’s mood and sleep quality. 10. What does the underlined word “dispensable” mean in the last paragraph? A. Unique. B. Unnecessary. C. Unusual. D. Universal. 11. What is the passage mainly about? A. Mental health should never be ignored. B. Physical education class is really a good option. C. Exercise may bring about good academic grades. D. Different exercises have different results on the brain. D The planet is in trouble, and a gas-car ban just might help. But how will it affect you? Cars are not small investments. They make a big impact on our wallets — but also on the environment. That’s why when California announced a gas-car ban in August arid other states suggested they’d follow suit, there was a mixed response. Sure, reducing our use of gas by choosing more eco-friendly cars could slow climate change and help everyone live more sustainably, not to mention save money on gas in the long run. But what would happen to people’s cars? Would they have to buy an expensive new electric vehicle right now? Well, let’s set a few things straight first: This isn’t a full-on ban. People living in or visiting California will still be able to drive gas cars, as well as buy and register used internal combustion engines (ICE) vehicles, well after the law takes effect. But in a little over a decade, residents will not be allowed to register new gas-burning cars. It will take more than a decade for the ban to take effect fully — 2035, to be exact. Why is California banning gas cars? It’s all about the environment. More than half of California’s carbon pollution comes from the transportation sector, and eliminating ICE vehicles is a critical first step in, addressing the climate crisis. California has seen the impact of climate change firsthand in the form of natural disasters such as floods, mudslides, record-breaking droughts and extreme wildfires — all of which have increased in frequency and intensity in recent years. However, new rules and laws can be fearsome, and hard to carry out at first. For example, electric vehicles (EVs) also don’t get as many miles per charge, making them difficult for long-distance trips and states with few charging stations. Related to that, the country needs more public charging stations. But, of course, the biggest barrier to more people getting excited about electric vehicles is price, which is currently higher than traditional vehicles due to their expensive batteries. Still, Rauch is hopeful. “As someone who is focused on the health benefits of reducing pollution, I see the benefits as vastly outweighing the challenges,” she says. “At the end of the day, who doesn’t want their children and grandchildren to breathe clean air?” 12. What’s people’s attitude towards the gas-car ban? A. They were totally in different to it. B. They held mixed opinions towards it. C. They had a flood of complaints about it. D. They thought highly of it and welcomed it. 13 Why did California decide to ban gas cars? A. To deal with the severe transportation problem. B. To prevent natural disasters from happening. C. To follow the example of other states with gas-car ban. D. To ease the influence of serious climate change. 14. Which is NOT a possible disadvantage of EVs? A. Limited miles per charge. B. Limited charging stations. C. Higher prices at present. D. More carbon pollution. 15. Where might this text be taken from? A. A magazine. B. A textbook. C. A biography. D. A research report. How to Support a Friend Struggling with Their Mental Health? I was in China for the first time. I was to meet a friend, Bruce, who had come to China a few months before to work in Jingzhou. I had never heard of the place, so I guessed it must be small. Before I left for China, Bruce had told me his address over the phone. Now, I was confident that I could find the place with the address written on a piece of paper in my pocket. It was not until I arrived at the airport in Wuhan and went to get the bus for the “small town” that I realized the address note I wrote in English was useless. At the information desk of the bus service outside the airport, I spent as long as 5 minutes trying every possible American pronunciation of the word “Jingzhou” with him repeating every single word with a confused inflection Finally, his eyes widened and it clicked. He turned to me and said something I didn't understand. I was not sure what he said, but he said it with confidence. He ran outside gesturing for me to follow and put me on a bus. He did everything for me. I handed him some money and he took the proper amount and gave me the change. Then he told the bus driver where I was going. When the bus took off, I assumed we were heading to Jingzhu... but how could I know? I was informed via hand signals that I had now arrived at my desired city and now I just had to simply get to my friend's place. So I walked off to a stand of taxis and one driver greeted me ready to go. But when I handed him the address, it was apparent that he didn't know where it was. After some discussion with other taxi drivers, he turned to put me in his taxi as if he had found a way out. Soon he pulled up at a building on which I was overjoyed to see my familiar English word: Hotel. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Bruce told me not to worry and asked me to wait for him to get a Chinese friend on the phone. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 勤建学校高二年级上学期第一次调研考试 英语试卷 2024.10 本试卷共8页, 满分120分。 A Here come 4 most popular clubs in our school! 根据第二段中“According to a study by the University of British Columbia, regular aerobic exercise betters the functioning of the hippocampus, the area of the brain involved in learning and memory. (根据不列颠哥伦比亚大学的一项研究,有规律的有氧运动可以改善海马体的功能,海马体是大脑中与学习和记忆有关的区域。)”可知,规律的有氧运动对学习和记忆最好。故选A项。 根据第三段中“On the other hand, getting enough exercise will improve sleep quality and mood. It will also reduce stress and anxiety. (另一方面,得到足够的锻炼将改善睡眠质量和情绪。它也会减少压力和焦虑。)”可推知,锻炼通过改善一个人的情绪和睡眠质量来间接影响思维。故选D项。 【10题详解】 词义猜测题。根据划线单词句子中“…but as an important educational concern. (而应被视为一个重要的教育问题。)”由此可知,该句为体育活动不应被视为可有可无的选择,而应被视为一个重要的教育问题。故可猜测划线单词dispensable为“可有可无的,不需要的”意思,结合选项B项Unnecessary“不必要的”意思一致。故选B项。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。根据文章大意以及第一段中“According to the National Academy of Medicine, exercise can improve a child’s cognitive abilities, health, and academic performance significantly. B They held mixed opinions towards it. C. They had a flood of complaints about it. D. They thought highly of it and welcomed it. 13. Why did California decide to ban gas cars? A. To deal with the severe transportation problem. B. To prevent natural disasters from happening. C. To follow the example of other states with gas-car ban. D. To ease the influence of serious climate change. 14. Which is NOT a possible disadvantage of EVs? A. Limited miles per charge. B. Limited charging stations. C. Higher prices at present. D. More carbon pollution. 15. Where might this text be taken from? A. A magazine. B. A textbook. C. A biography. D. A research report. 【答案】12. At the information desk of the bus service outside the airport, I spent as long as 5 minutes trying every possible American pronunciation of the word “Jingzhou” with him repeating every single word with a confused inflection (音调变化). Finally, his eyes widened and it clicked. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Soon he pulled up at a building on which I was overjoyed to see my familiar English word: Hotel. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考例文: Soon he pulled up at a building on which I was overjoyed to see my familiar English word: Hotel. Surely a building with such English letters would have an English speaker. After the driver explained my situation, the check-in lady brought the hotel manager in, who could speak some English. I told her I was lost and needed to telephone my friend. She led me to a phone, where I gave her Bruce's number, which she dialed. When Bruce answered in English, she handed it to me. However, I had no way of describing where I was. Bruce told me not to worry and asked me to wait for him to get a Chinese friend on the phone. I returned the receiver to the hotel manager and some time later she passed it to the taxi driver. While the two Chinese were talking, the driver's face lighted up, giving me the message that the problem was finally solved. We were soon on our way to meet my friend. The taxi driver whistled a song, feeling proud of being able to help. I was glad to be able to see Bruce soon who was preparing a big Chinese dinner for me! 打电话: telephone/ring up/call/give sb. a call ②. 交谈:talk/communicate/chat 情绪类 ①.高兴:glad/happy/delighted/pleased 【点睛】[高分句型1]. After the driver explained my situation, the check-in lady brought the hotel manager in, who could speak some English. (由after引导时间状语从句;由关系代词who引导非限制性定语从句) [高分句型2]. She led me to a phone, where I gave her Bruce's number, which she dialed. (由关系副词where引导非限制性定语从句;关系代词which引导非限制性定语从句) [高分句型3]. The taxi driver whistled a song, feeling proud of being able to help.
