When I was a baby, I jumped and ran around you and made you laugh. Whenever I was “bad”, you’d shake your finger at me and ask “How could you? ”—but then you'd give up, and played with me and I thought that life could not be any more perfect.
My house training was a long process, because you were terribly busy, but we worked on that together. We went for long walks, runs in the park and car rides. We stopped for ice cream. I took long naps in the sun waiting for you to come home at the end of the day.
Gradually, you began spending more time at work, and more time searching for your human friend. Later, you fell in love. She, now your wife, is not a dog person, but I still welcomed her into our home. I was happy because you were happy. Then your babies came along and I shared your excitement, I was excited by their pinkness, how they smelled, and I wanted to look after them, too. Your wife was afraid I would bite them. However, as they began to grow, I became their friend.
Now, you have a new job in another city and you and they will be moving to an apartment that does not let pets in. You’ve made the right decision for your “family”, although I wish I could be your family all the time.
I was excited about the car ride until we arrived at the dog house. There were many fearing and hopeless cats and dogs in the cage. You filled out the paper and said to the staffs there, “I know you will find a good home for her.” They said nothing. The children were in tears as they waved me goodbye. And “How could you?” were the only three words in my mind.
Is it better to live with hope or without hope? At first, whenever anyone passed my dog house, I rushed to the front, hoping it was you, hoping you had changed your mind and hoping this was all a bad dream.
My owner, I will think of you and wait for you forever. I hope you receive more faithfulness from your family than you showed to me.

I would never forget what I learned from the day when I left my junior high school. On the last day our teacher told us something educational that I would like to share with you.
He began by drawing a man standing in the middle of a circle. To make it more interesting, he drew things like a house, a school and a few friends inside the circle.
He asked, “Can anyone tell me what this is?” In a long silence, one student decided to express his idea, “The world?” The teacher said, “That's close. This is your Comfort Zone(舒适圈). Inside your circle you have all the things that are important to you-your home, your family, your friends and your jobs. People feel that inside this circle they are safe from any danger.”
“Can anyone tell me what will happen when you step out of this circle?” A strong silence came over the room. The same student replied, “You are afraid.” Another student said. “You may make mistakes.” The silence continued and our teacher smiled and asked, “When you make mistakes, what can the result be?” The first student said. “You learn something.”
“Exactly, you are learning.” Our teacher turned to the blackboard and drew an arrow(箭头)pointing from the man to the outside of the circle. He went on saying, “When you leave your Comfort Zone, you put yourself out there. The result is that you learn something that you do not know to become a better person.” He drew a bigger circle around the original(原来的) circle, and added a few new things like more friends, a big house, etc.

Love, joy and the warm feeling of getting together don’t cost a thing. But gifts do cost money. So what should a poor family do?
When I was 10, I told my mother that the only thing I wanted for the New Year was a pogo stick (弹簧单高跷). However, my mother said it was so expensive that we couldn’t afford one. On a Saturday before New Year, my family went shopping together. While my mother and I were picking out the gifts, my dad said, “I’ll be back soon—I need to see something in the tool area.” A moment later, he came back with a long box. I remembered wondering if there was a pogo stick in it.
When we arrived home, my dad put the box in the garage. While my parents were busy with their chores, I quietly walked out to the garage and found the box. I was so excited and I knew as soon as I opened that magical box, my bright, shiny pogo stick would appear. No such luck! Inside the box was a silly old broom (扫帚).
That New Year morning, I got some gifts like a tiger toy and a saving pot, but I didn’t get the present that I really wanted. How upset I felt at that moment though I didn’t want my parents to see!
After cleaning up the room, my dad went to the garage. When he came back, he was carrying a beautiful pogo stick. I couldn’t believe it! My parents probably got quite a laugh from the trick they played on me.
