When I woke up on Aug.4 2019, there was only one thing on my mind: what to wear. A billion thoughts appeared through my brain in the closet (衣帽间). Not only was it my first day of senior high school, but it was my first day of school in a new state; first impressions are everything, and it was important for me to impress the people who I would spend the next three years with.
After carefully hunting from my closet, I proudly came out in a dress from Target. The soft cotton was comfortable, and the specially designed shoulders added a little of fun. Yes, this dress was the one. An hour later, I felt powerful as I headed toward Room 1136. But as I entered, my jaw (下巴) dropped to the floor.
Sitting at the desk was Mrs Hutfilz, my English teacher, wearing exactly the same dress as me. I kept my head down and tiptoed (踞着脚走) to my seat. I made it through my simple introduction speech until Mrs Hutfilz stood up, jokingly saying that she liked my style. Although this was the moment I had been afraid of from the moment when I walked in, all my anxiety surprisingly melted away, and the students paid attention as I shared my story. My smile grew as I laughed with the students. After class, I stayed behind, talked to Mrs Hutfilz and made a humorous and real connection.
Looking back three years later, the ten minutes I spent afraid of giving my speech were really not worth it. My first period of high school certainly made the day unforgettable in the best way and taught me that Mrs Hutfilz had a brilliant sense of style!

Ever wondered how many steps you should really be aiming for each day to stay healthy? A study, led by the University of Granada (UGR) and published in one of the world’s leading journals, identifies for the first time the number of steps at which most people obtain the greatest benefits.
The study has provided the first scientific proof for daily step count to significantly reduce the risk of premature (过早的) death: 8,000. It contradicts the popular belief that one should aim for 10,000 steps a day — an idea that came out of Japan in the 1960s but had no basis in science. “We have shown that the more steps you take, the better, and that there is no extra number of steps that has been proven to be harmful to health,” explains Francisco B. Ortega, the lead author of the study.
The findings are based on a comprehensive analysis of data from twelve international studies involving over 110,000 participants. The study reveals that even small increases in the daily step count can lead to measurable health benefits. For those who lead a less active lifestyle, an additional 500 steps can already result in health improvements. “This is good news because not everyone can walk almost 9,000 steps a day, at least not at first, so you can set small, reachable goals and gradually make progress and increase the number of steps per day,” the researchers suggests.
So, should we stop walking when we reach 9000 steps? “Absolutely not,” insists Ortega. “More steps are never bad. Our study showed that even as many as 16,000 steps a day does not pose a risk.” However, they also note that the daily step target should be age-appropriate.
“Our study gives people clear and easily measurable goals,” Ortega concludes. “Counting steps is much simpler, especially since most people have a smartphone or smartwatch these days. The significance of our study lies in providing concrete and measurable targets for the number of daily steps and thereby contributing to people’s health.”
28. What can we learn about the new study?
A. It originates (来源于) from Japan.
B. It has reduced death rate.
C It has scientific evidence.
D. It restricts (限制) extra daily steps.
29. What does the underlined word “contradict” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. challenge. B. agree. C. revise. D. focus.
30. What do researchers advise inactive individuals to do?
A. Increase walking pace.
B. Set achievable step goals.
C. Track progress every day.
D. Add other forms of exercise.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Pace vs Count: Walking Matters
B. Impact of Walking 16,000 Steps
C. Counting with Smart Wearables
D. 8000 vs 10,000: Mystery solved
D
For people suffering from depression (抑郁) there’s an all-natural treatment they should use — getting more exercise. It could help fight depression, even if people have a genetic risk, new research shows.
For the study, researchers collected information from nearly 8,000 people and found those with related genes (基因) were more likely to have depression over the next two years after examining them. But that was less likely for people who were more active at the study’s start, even if they had a family history of depression. Higher levels of physical activity helped protect even those with the highest genetic risk of depression.
Both high-intensity (高强度) exercise and low-intensity activities were associated with a reduced risk of depression. Adding four hours of exercise a week could lower the risk of a new episode (一段经历) of depression by 17%, according to the study. “Our findings strongly suggest that, when it comes to depression, being physically active has the potential to remove the added risk of future episodes in individuals who are genetically risky,” said lead author Karmel Choi. “On average, about 35 additional minutes of physical activity each day may help people to reduce their risk and protect against future depression episodes.”
Depression is a common mental illness globally, with more than 264 million people affected. “Depression is so ubiquitous, and that underlines the need for effective approaches that can impact as many people as possible,” Choi said. And mental health and primary care providers can use the findings to advise patients that there’s something meaningful they can do to lower their risk of depression.
32. How did the researchers reach their conclusion?
A. By analyzing a mass of data.
B. By conducting genetic research.
C. By comparing various levels of activity.
D. By tracking the subjects for many years.
33. What does the study show about depression?
A. Physical activity betters medical treatment.
B. Exercise may decrease and prevent it.
C. Different levels of exercise intensity matter the same.
D. Exercising 35 minutes daily is the most effective treatment.
34. What does the underlined word “ubiquitous” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. Simple. B. Complex.
C. Unusual. D. Common.
35. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To discuss a disease. B. To introduce a scientific study.
C. To analyze a genetic risk. D. To explain a phenomenon.

Four Ways to Be a Great Roommate
Having a roommate can be one of the best experiences in college or, easily, one of the worst.___36___Follow these tips to avoid the common mistakes that turn good roommate relationships sour.
◇Talk things out. Communication is key. If something happens, sit down with your roommate and have a face-to-face conversation. I've seen roommate relationships fall apart because something happens and, instead of talking to each other, the two start complaining about their roommates behind their backs.___37___
◇Don't expect to be best friends. Some roommates become the best of friends, and some don't. Don't put pressure on yourself or your roommate, especially when you first meet.___38___And if your roommate doesn't end up being your best friend, don't worry.
◇Ask before you take. This applies to food, clothes and anything else. If you want to keep a relationship going, show your roommate that you have respect for what is his or hers by asking first.___39___
◇Clean up after yourself. This should do without saying. Don't be lazy. Or, at least, don't bury your roommate in your clothes and garbage. Most people I've come across in college are messy.___40___But being considerate with where you put your stuff will help you avoid conflict.
A. So you need to think twice before you help your roommates out.
B. This creates nothing but awkward situations and unhappiness.
C. Even if you both agree to share everything, you should still ask.
D. You don't have all the time to clean your room and keep it organized.
E. It all starts with you to have a good relationship with your roommate.
F. Sometime you get stuck with someone who has tons of negative energy.
G. Remember, you're trying to make a new friend, not to scare your roommate away.

A. How to cure learning disabilities.
B. What are learning disabilities.
C. Why learning disabilities are important.
【答案】17. C 18. B 19. A 20. B
【解析】
【原文】M: Experts say learning disabilities are not with intelligence or the willingness to work hard. The problem, they say, is that some people’s brains process information differently. By definition, people with learning disabilities are average or above average in their intelligence.
But their disorders may affect their ability to gain knowledge and, as a result, limit their success in school or jobs. Different people have different kinds of learning disabilities. One person may have difficulty with language development, another may have problems with reading or writing. Still another may have trouble working with numbers.
People can have more than one disorder, but reading is the most common area of difficulty. Learning disabilities affect the brain’s ability to store, process and communicate information. The national center for learning disabilities estimates that 15 million Americans, or five per cent, are affected. The group says 3 million students in the United States have received some kind of special help in school because of their learning disabilities.

When I woke up on Aug.4, 2019, there was only one thing on my mind: what to wear.

C. It has scientific evidence.
D. It restricts (限制) extra daily steps.
29. What does the underlined word “contradict” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. challenge. B. agree. C. revise. D. focus.

For people suffering from depression (抑郁), there’s an all-natural treatment they should use — getting more exercise.

第一节翻译
66. 如果明天学校旅行时下雨怎么办?(what if) (汉译英)
__________________________________________________________
【答案】What if it rains on the school trip tomorrow?
【解析】
【详解】考查固定句型,时态和主谓一致。“如果……怎么办”是固定句型what if,用一般现在时表将来,“明天学校旅行时”是on the school trip tomorrow,“下雨”是rain,用it指代天气,it是单数,因此rain用第三人称单数,因此整句话翻译为“What if it rains on the school trip tomorrow”。故答案为What if it rains on the school trip tomorrow?
67. 我不能集中注意于这个实验。(concentrate on) (汉译英)
__________________________________________________________
【答案】I can’t concentrate on the experiment.

68. 老师建议Tom记笔记来提高英语。(recommend) (汉译英)
__________________________________________________________
【答案】Teacher recommended Tom to take notes to improve English.

70. 花太多的时间上网是不健康的,还会让你很难集中精力在生活中的其他事情上。(make+ it+ adj.+to do) (汉译英)
【答案】Spending too much time online is unhealthy and makes it hard to focus on other things in your life.
【解析】
【详解】考查短语、非谓语动词和形式宾语。表示“花太多的时间上网”用Spending too much time online动名词短语作主语;表示“是不健康的”用is unhealthy系表结构,描述客观事实,用一般现在时;表示“会让你很难集中精力在生活中的其他事情上”用make+ it+ adj.+to do的结构,其中it是形式宾语,动词不定式是真正的宾语,“很难”用hard表示,作宾补;“集中精力”用动词短语focus on表示;“生活中的其他事情”用other things in your life表示;所以该部分可以表示为makes it hard to focus on other things in your life,前后两句是并列关系,用and连接。故翻译为Spending too much time online is unhealthy and makes it hard to focus on other things in your life。
