Acquire information about Mei Lanfang’s life story, artistic achievements and his significant contributions. 2. Improve listening skills and identify key information in the video. 3. Cultivate critical thinking skills and learn to objectively evaluate great persons and their achievements. 教学内容 教学重点: Students learn to improve listening skills and identify key information in the video. 教学难点: Students learn to objectively evaluate great persons and their achievements. 教学过程 设计意图 Step1. Lead-in(3mins) Teacher shares a story about theatrical performances happened yesterday and introduces the topic of the lesson---Beijing Opera. 激发学生的兴趣,引出课程主题:戏剧。 Then teacher asks three questions according to the pictures shown on the screen. Q1. What do you know about Beijing Opera? Q2. What are the major roles on the Peking Opera stage? Teacher gives students few minutes to think about these two questions and then gives the answer. (Beijing opera is a special art form in China, often referred to as Peking opera in English. They fall into four major roles——sheng, dan, jing, chou.) 提供背景知识,简单介绍京剧和京剧中的角色,为了之后引出京剧大师梅兰芳做铺垫。 Teacher shows the photo of Mei Lanfang and then asks another two questions about him. Q3. What do you know about Mei Lanfang? Q4. Which role does Mei Lanfang act as? (Mei Lanfang is one of the greatest actors of Bejing Opera who ever lived. He is well-known for his dan role and for his graceful performing style “Mei Lanfang school”.) 简单介绍梅兰芳,为了之后有关梅兰芳的视频介绍做铺垫。 Step2. Before-watching(5mins) Activity1. Read for the basic information Teacher asks the question after reading the passage on page 12, “Do you understand what a cultural ambassador is?” Then, teacher gives the definition of “ambassador” and explain the reason why Mei Lanfang is called “a cultural ambassador”. 学生关注ambassador的含义,并与梅兰芳的京剧事业关联,了解他在国际文化交流中作出的贡献。 Activity2. Prediction Teacher explains some difficult phrases to lower the difficulty of the passage. Students match the time phrases with the events in Mei Lanfang’s life. 听前进行预测,教师解释重难点词块,帮助学生扫除词汇障碍。 Step3. While-watching(8mins) Activity1. Match the time phrases Students watch the video and check whether their matching is correct. 学生第一次观看视频(无字幕),检查预测的答案是否正确。 教师用时间线的形式帮学生梳理梅兰芳的人生经历,加上视频截图,理清学生思路,增加课程的趣味性。 Activity2. Blank-filling Students watch the video again and complete the sentences. 第二次看视频(有字幕),选择相关片段进行填空。 Activity3. Watch for details Students watch the whole video again and answer the following questions: 1. How did Mei Lanfang become a legend in the art of Beijing Opera? (Because of his great acting skill and hard work, Mei took traditions from the past and adapted the best parts to create new and enrich old forms of Beijing Opera.) 2. Why is Mei Lanfang greatly loved by so many people? (Because of his great kindness to all people and his deep love for his country.) 第三次观看视频,深入思考:梅兰芳是如何取得艺术成就的?梅兰芳深受中国人民爱戴的原因是什么? Activity4. Mind map of Mei Lanfang 引导学生从“his tremendous artistic skill” “great kindness”、“deep love for his country”三个方面做总结性的表述。 Step4. After-watching(14mins) After watching, students think further and try to describe Mei Lanfang by using the information they’ve learned today. “Who else can you think of that has committed himself/ herself to the development of China?” (There are many people who have committed themselves to the development of China. One person I admire is Tu Youyou.
