D. +1646-240-4545. B When I was five or six years old, I remember watching TV and seeing other children suffer in other parts of the world. I would say to myself, “When I grow up, when I can get rich, I will save kids all over the world.” At 17, I started my career here in America, and at the age of 18, I started my first charity (慈善机构) organization. I went on to team up with other organizations in the following years, and met, helped, and even lost some of the most beautiful souls, from six-year-old Jasmina Anema who passed away in 2010 from leukemia (白血病), and whose story inspired thousands to volunteer as donors, to my grandmother who lost her battle against cancer in 2012. And her death is the very reason and the driving force behind the Clara Lionel Foundation(CLF). We’re all humans. And we all just want a chance: a chance of life, a chance of education, a chance of a future, really. And at the CLF, our mission is to influence as many lives as possible, but it starts with just one. People make it seem too hard to do charity work. The truth is that you don’t have to be rich to help others. You don’t need to be famous. You don’t even have to be college-educated. But it can start with your neighbor, the person right next to you, the person sitting next to you in class, and the kid down the block in your neighborhood. You just do whatever you can to help in any way that you can. And today, I want to challenge each of you to make a decision to help one person, one organization, one situation that touches your heart. My grandmother used to say, “If you’ve got a dollar, there’s plenty to share.” 24. What did the author want to do at a young age? A. Help other children. B. Save the world. C. Become rich. D. Grow up quickly. 25. What directly caused the author to create and develop the CLF? A. A six-year-old kid’s request. B. Many volunteers inspiration. C. Her grandmother’s death of cancer. D. Other organizations’ encouragement. 26. What does the underlined word “one” in Paragraph 2 refer to? A. A chance. B. A task. C. An organization. D. A life. 27. What does the author suggest people do in the last paragraph? A. Challenge their friends to offer help. B. Work hard to get a college education. C. Do little things to help those around them. D. Share everything they have. C Teenagers who spend more time on after-school activities and less than two hours of screen time after school are more mentally healthy, according to a study published in the journal Preventive Medicine. The study used information collected from more than 28,000 seventh-grade Canadian students between 2014 and 2018. The students first answered questions about their usage of screen time after school, including how much time they spent watching TV or something else. Then, students reported how many days they had taken part in after-school activities such as sports or arts programmes. After that, researchers asked students to describe their state of mind. For example, when given a statement such as “I start most days thinking that I will have a good day”, they could choose to what level they agreed with it on a scale (等级). Researchers said in the study some of the results were expected. Students with no after-school activities usually had high levels of screen time, for example. And they expected girls would score higher on negative indicators (消极指标) of mental health, as earlier research had found that they tended to have higher levels of anxiety compared to boys. What was noteworthy, researchers say, is that even among students who took part in after-school activities, 46% still went beyond the recommended screen time of two hours. At the same time, 67% of students who didn’t take part in after-school activities also had more than two hours of screen time. Together, this suggests high screen time among teenagers generally. “The findings suggest that after-school activities are valuable for the happy growing of teenagers,” the study said. “While past studies have proved the importance of after-school activities for social and academic development, the present study shows their importance for good mental health results.” 28. Which of the following came last when students took part in the new study? A. Talking about their lifestyles. B. Introducing their after-school activities. C. Reporting their mental states on a scale. D. Answering questions about screen time use. 29. What do the researchers find about teenage girls? A. They often have higher levels of satisfaction. B. Few of them take part in after-school activities. C. Anxiety has become a serious problem among them. D. Too much screen time may be more harmful to them. 30. What does the author want to show by using the numbers in paragraph 4? A. Earlier findings about screen time are wrong. B. High screen time is common among teenagers. C. No after-school activities mean no screen time. D. Screens attract teenagers more than after-school activities do. 31. Why are after-school activities so important according to the new study? A. They are good for teenagers’ physical health. B. They help to improve teenagers’ mental health. C. They encourage teenagers’ social development. D. They allow teenagers to become better learners. D Sleep Struggle One in every five young people has a sleep problem, so you're not alone. Getting enough sleep has become as important as eating vegetables and exercising regularly. It's very important for your body. Most young people only get seven hours of sleep each night, when they actually need nine hours. And making up for lost sleep during the week by sleeping on weekends doesn't really work. In fact, sleeping late on weekends may actually do you more harm than good, if you have sleep problems. What happens if you don't get enough sleep? If your sleep problem continues for a few nights, you could suffer serious problems. Lack of sleep can affect learning and memory. Worse,if your sleep difficulties last a long time, that could lead to anxiety(焦虑). Therefore, you've got to have some healthy sleep habits. Below are some suggestions: * Go to bed at the same time—including weekends, if possible. * Wake up around the same time every morning. When you sleep late just one morning during the week, it may disturb your body clock. This will make it hard for you to sleep that night. * Do something relaxing before going to bed. * Exercise during the day. Don't exercise right before going to bed. * Avoid drinking. Alcohol(酒精)makes you excited. This prevents you from falling asleep or wakes you up during the night. * Don't smoke. Smoking is always bad for the body. Smoking before bedtime keeps you awake. If trying these tips over a couple of weeks does not help you, consult your doctor. Do not take any medicine without first asking your doctor. Many of them have strong side effects. 32. The passage suggests that people with sleep problems should . A. eat vegetables and exercise regularly B. make up for lost sleep on weekends C. follow a fixed timetable for sleep D. sleep seven hours every day 33. According to the suggestions, which of the following makes it easier for you to fall asleep? A. Getting up earlier than usual in the morning. B. Listening to soft music before going to bed. C. Drinking alcohol before going to bed. D. Doing exercise in the evening. 34. What should you do if these tips don't work on you over a period of time? A. Just keep trying. B. Turn to a doctor for help. C. Try some medicines. D. Wait for your sleeping problems to get better. 35. Where is the text most likely from? A A diary. B. A novel. C. A travel guide. D. A magazine. How Laughing at Yourself Makes You Attractive Have you ever embarrassed yourself in public and got laughed at for it ?____36____ And it’s okay—we should even have a laugh about them. ● Laughing at yourself means accepting who you really are. When I’m done with the lesson, you will practice writing. You won’t need your textbooks today. First, you need to pick a topic. Try to think of something interesting or special that you can say a lot of things about. If you are interested in your topic then your paper will be more interesting. Write down two or three topic ideas in your notes. Think about them for a minute and then choose the best one. Now you need to think about how to organize your paper. A 25. C 26. D 27. 根据第一段的“I would say to myself, ‘When I grow up, when I can get rich, I will save kids all over the world.’(我对我自己说‘当我长大变得富有的时候,我要拯救全世界的孩子’。)” 故选A项。 根据第二段中的“I went on to team up with other organizations in the following years, and met, helped, and even lost some of the most beautiful souls, from six-year-old Jasmina Anema who passed away in 2010 from leukemia (白血病), and whose story inspired thousands to volunteer as donors, to my grandmother who lost her battle against cancer in 2012. And her death is the very reason and the driving force behind the Clara Lionel Foundation(CLF). 根据划线词所在句“And at the CLF, our mission is to influence as many lives as possible, but it starts with just one. (在CLF,我们的使命是影响尽可能多的人,但它从一个开始。)”可知,该组织的使命是影响尽可能多的生命,但是这需要从影响一个生命开始。由此可推断,one指代的是前面提到的many lives中的一个,即一个生命。故选D项。 【27题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“But it can start with your neighbor, the person right next to you, the person sitting next to you in class, and the kid down the block in your neighborhood. (但它可以从你的邻居开始,你旁边的人,课堂上坐在你旁边的那个人,以及你附近街区的那个孩子。) ”和“You just do whatever you can to help in any way that you can. And today, I want to challenge each of you to make a decision to help one person, one organization, one situation that touches your heart. (你只要尽你所能,以任何方式提供帮助。今天,我想挑战你们每个人,让他们决定帮助一个人、一个组织、一种触动你们心灵的情况。)”推知,作者建议人们做力所能及的事来帮助周围的人。故选C项。 C Teenagers who spend more time on after-school activities and less than two hours of screen time after school are more mentally healthy, according to a study published in the journal Preventive Medicine. C 29. D 30. B 31. D Sleep Struggle One in every five young people has a sleep problem, so you're not alone. I joined a volunteer club instead。故填I joined a volunteer club instead。 根据上文的“I know I’ll have to study harder as a senior high school student and get used to being responsible for a lot more.(我知道,作为一名高中生,我必须更加努力地学习,习惯承担更多的责任。)” 故填keeping up with the other students in my advanced course。 故填get used to all the homework。
