Sarah was born in 2008. She found she was going through some hard times. She felt like she didn’t fit in (合得来) with her friends and was always worried about what they thought of her. She had trouble sleeping at night and felt anxious. Sarah didn’t know what to do.
One day, Sarah’s mum noticed Sarah wasn’t acting like herself. She asked Sarah if something was troubling her. At first, Sarah didn’t want to talk about it, but finally, she opened up to her mum. Sarah told her mum how she felt. Her mum listened to her patiently and told her it was normal (正常的) to feel that way at her age. She said everyone goes through hard times and then helped her find a counselor—someone working on teenage problems. Sarah was nervous at first, but the counsellor was kind and understanding. She taught Sarah to deal with her anxiety and helped her work through her feelings of not fitting in with her friends.
Over time, Sarah started to feel better. She learnt that it’s important to be true to herself and that she didn’t have to change to fit in with her friends. She also learnt that it’s OK to get help when she needs it. She knew she might still have some hard times someday, but she felt more confident.

Doing sports is good for our body and mind. Today, exercising through online videos is becoming popular. With the Internet, people can do it anytime, anywhere.
One of my friends, Lin Fei, followed short videos to do daily exercise. “With live (直播) programs, I feel like I am working out with my friends, which encourages me to hold on to the last minute,” she said. Another friend of mine, Michael, told me that working out through videos made him feel comfortable. “I have a fear of working out at the gym (体育馆), because I don’t like being watched by people around me. But working out at home doesn’t make me feel embarrassed (尴尬),” he said.
Hearing about their experiences, I decided to give it a try. When I told my plan to my elder sister, a P. E. teacher, she said that workout videos could be helpful but might still carry some problems.
“Without being with someone in person, you will be less willing to work out to your best. Working out at the gym allows you to have advice in real time and get pushed harder,” my sister said to me. “Well, if you really want to have a try, first, choose proper programs or videos. That’s very important. And then ask your friends for advice. Their experiences can give you a better understanding of what you can expect. Anyway, don’t depend too much on it. You should try some different ways too.”
At her suggestions, I followed an online program for three months, which also offered advice to meet my personal needs. After the first period of training, I felt it very practical and helpful when I put in the right amount of work with a strong will. Compared with going to the gym, using online videos is a much cheaper and time-saving choice. But it can be difficult sometimes when I’m too lazy or too busy to stick with it.
回答下面5个问题,每题答案不超过6个词。
1.Why is exercising through online videos becoming popular now?
2.How does Michael feel about working out through online videos?
3.What does paragraph 4 mainly tell us?
4.What will the writer probably suggest on working out through online videos?
5.Do you like exercising through online videos? Why or Why not?

A group of students from Tianjin found a problem among young teenagers: Most of them have little idea about their career plans as there is too little help from school or family.
To offer teenagers helpful career guidance, the students from Tianjin TEDA No.1 Middle School started a project called “Dian Zhi Cheng Shi (点职成诗)”. “Our survey shows that 72 percent of students want to know more about different jobs. Doctors, accountants and lawyers are the top three,” said Wang Xinran, 16, the project leader.
Based on students’ needs, the team interviewed 32 professionals (专业人士) in different fields and posted their interview son social media. Professionals share true stories behind each job, allowing students to learn about the jobs more deeply.

(22-23九年级上·江苏淮安·阶段练习)Communication is the process by which we exchange information between people. The aim of communicate well is to understand and to be understood. Communication can be successful only when both the sender and the receiver understand the same information.

Know what you want to say and why. Understand clearly the purpose of your message. Know to whom you are communicating and why.

(22-23九年级上·江苏淮安·期中)Dear Amy,
First of all, thank you for writing to me. I am sorry after hearing about your problems. Maybe I can give you some advice.
Your first problem is about your weight. Besides having a healthy eating habit, I suggest that you should try to do some exercise, like playing basketball and swimming. You will feel better and more relaxed after doing some sports.
Your second problem is about your English schoolwork. I think you are afraid of learning English so you get low marks in English tests. I suggest that you should give yourself more chances to listen to and learn English, such as watching TV programs in English. If you keep on working hard, your English will be finally improved.
Your last problem is about your relationship with your parents. That is a common problem for teenagers. I suggest that you should enjoy your holiday with your parents. What about having lunch with them on Sunday? This kind of activities can fix your relationship with your parents. I also suggest that you should share your feelings and worries with your parents, and maybe they can give you some good ideas.
I would be glad if my advice works. Write to me again if you have further problems.
Yours truly,
John Chan

(22-23九年级下·江苏淮安·阶段练习)Remember when you were a little child trying to learn to walk?
First, you had to learn how to balance yourself and stand. You fell down, and then got back up. You laughed sometimes and cried at other times. After much practice, you finally learned how to balance yourself. You got much pleasure from this new feeling of power—you’d stand everywhere you could. It was a happy time—you did it!
Now, the next step—walking. You’d seen others do it. It didn’t look that hard—just move your legs while you were standing. Wrong—more difficult than you ever imagined. But after you tried again and again, you understood how to walk.
If people around you found you walking, they cheered, “Oh, look at what the kid is doing.” This encouraged you! But look back on those days when you were the little child—how many times did you try when no one was watching, or when no one was cheering? You couldn’t wait for someone to encourage you to take the next steps. You learned how to encourage yourself.
So, keep trying and encouraging yourself as you learned to walk if you want to succeed in doing something.
根据上面短文的内容回答问题(每小题答案不超过6个单词)。
1.What is the first step in learning to walk?
2.How did you feel about the new power?
3.When did you understand how to walk?
4.Who cheered for you when finding you walking?

(21-22九年级下·江苏盐城·期中)How would you feel if your school banned(禁止) phones in class?
In February, the Ministry of Education announced that mobile phones should, in principle(原则上), be banned in primary and secondary schools. This aims to protect students’ eyesight, make sure they focus on their work and prevent them from becoming addicted(上瘾的) to the Internet and online games.
Xu Xiaohe, a 13-year-old from Zhejiang, supports the policy. “In fact, my school has never allowed us to bring our mobile phones,” Xu said. “It’s a distraction from our work. Even adults can’t control themselves, let alone kids like us.”
Li Zihan from Beijing, however, feels differently. The 13-year-old believes that a mobile phone ban is too simplistic for a generation that has grown up with mobile phones. “Students should be taught self-management skills, as well as learn how to use their phones effectively to help with their studies,” Li said. “This might be the best way to deal with technology in modern times.”
For Ge Ziqi, the problem with banning phones has more to do with life outside of school. The 13-year-old Beijinger uses a bike-sharing app every day to travel between her home and school.
“Today, phones are used everywhere, from taking a bus to buying food,” she said. “If I can’t take my phone with me, I’ll have to buy my own bicycle.”
Some schools have come up with ideas to solve problems like Ge’s. At Shanghai Shatian School, for example, students are asked to put their phones in special lockers during school hours. The students call these lockers the “phone farm” (“养机场”) or “phone tarmac” (“停机坪”).
回答下面5个问题,每题答案不超过5个词。
1.When was “Phones Banning” announced?
2.Whose school never allowed to bring phones to school?
3.Where did students in Shatian School put their phones during school hours?

5.Why does Ge Ziqi take phones to school every day?
(21-22九年级下·江苏泰州·阶段练习)阅读下面的短文,并根据短文后的要求答题。
During the two sessions (两会), people around the world talk about China. Have you ever wondered what issues (话题) Generation Z (“Z世代”: people born 1995-2009) are most interested in? The latest survey from TEENS might give you some clues.
The survey lists 10 categories (类别), including social issues, education and culture, with each having several sub-issues (子话题). By March 10, more than 1,300 Gen Zers have taken part in the survey, including some from overseas. Let’s take a look.
In March, TEENS did a survey on topics of the two sessions to see what interests Gen Zers the most. Among all issues, mental health of minors (未成年人) got the most votes. Promoting (弘扬) traditional culture (83%) and military talent cultivation (人才强军) (82%) followed closely.
The top choices of Chinese Generation Z are not unexpected. Take mental health as an example. Reports on mental health problems of minors have increased in recent years. The rate of depression (抑郁) among minors was nearly 25 percent, according to the Report on National Mental Health Development in China (2019-2020). In November 2021, the Ministry of Education included screening (检查) for depression in students’ regular health checks. The survey shows that teenagers themselves have realized the urgency (紧急) of the problem and want it solved, too.
Born between 1995 and 2010, Gen Zers are often hard to define (定义). People seem to know little about them. Thanks to this survey, we are able to get a glimpse (瞥见) of what Gen Zers care about and paint a picture of what they are like.
The attention they give to mental health shows that they care for their own well-being(福利). They are alert (警觉的) to how they feel. When they don’t feel well, they are brave enough to speak out and ask for help.
Although they are young, they understand the power of tradition and culture. They believe that China is deeply rooted in traditional culture, which can give them great strength and inspiration (启发).
Instead of only focusing on themselves, Gen Zers also set their eyes on a bigger picture. They care about China’s position (地位) in the world and believe that technology and talents can help make a strong army and nation.
“A nation will prosper only when its young people thrive,” said President Xi Jinping. As Gen Zers have sharp insight (洞察力) and a great sense of responsibility, they are expected to become the engine room (最具影响力的部分) in realizing China’s rejuvenation (复兴).
回答下面5个问题,每题答案不超过8个词。
1.How many categories are included in the survey done by TEENS?
2.What topic makes Gen Zers most interested in?
3.If Gen Zers have problems with their mental health, what will they do bravely?
4.In Gen Zers’ opinion, what can help make our army and nation stronger?
5.As Gen Zers, what personality should you have? (言之有理即可)
