教学实施过程:
1.Have students discuss and choose their favourite poem by answering the following
questions.
(1) Who is your favourite English poet?
My favourite English poet is George Gordon Byron.
(2) Which of his/her poems do you like best? Why?
I like his poem “She Walks in Beauty” best. This poem is a song of praise. Through a
unique perspective, the poet describes a flowing beauty by vividly presenting a woman’s
beauty to us as if we see her in person. Her beauty is not artificial but natural. Besides being
beautiful, she is honest and kind under the poet’s pen. Through her quiet face we can see
into her pure soul.
2. Have students get the general idea of how to recite a poem by answering the following questions.
(1) What should you do before reciting a poem?
We must understand a poem first and then we can recite it properly. Memorize the poem,
as this is essential for reciting it naturally.
(2) Does reciting a poem simply mean reading aloud the lines and stanzas?
No. We should read with a full, clear voice and speak slightly slower than normal so that

the audience will hear clearly.
(3) How can one be an impressive poetry reciter?
An impressive poetry reciter will pay attention to the tone and the rhythm of the poem,
stressing the most important words. The reciter will also pause briefly between short
sentences and in the middle of long sentences, while making longer pauses between
stanzas. Moreover, the reciter will use his/her body language to emphasize the emotion
when necessary.
3. Have students listen to the tape of the poem “If—” by Rudyard Kipling, and pay
attention to the techniques used in reciting the poem.
4. Have students work in groups to practise reciting the poem according to the tip of
“Reading a poem aloud”.
5. Have students present their recital in groups to the class, telling others why they chose
the poem, and explaining some background knowledge of the poem, and the poet if
possible.
6. Have students evaluate their peers’ recital and give their comments.
7. Have students vote on the best recital.
