①_______ from the top of the tower, the south foot of the mountain is a sea of trees.
A. Seen B. Seeing C. Have seen D. To see
【答案】A
答案A。 Seeing from the top of the tower, we can see that the south foot of the mountain is a sea of trees.
②Faced with a bill for $10,000, _______.
A. an extra job has been given to John B. the boss has given John an extra job
C. an extra job has been taken D. John has taken an extra job
considering…(鉴于/考虑到……) judging by/from…(从……
according to…(依据……) given…(考虑到……)
owing to…(由于……)

16. The hospital ________(build)now is expected to be completed in two years.
【答案】being built
17. We have looked at our planet from every angle and found all of the widest things ________(leave)to find.
18. The two prisoners are said ________(escape), and the police are searching for them.
【答案】to have escaped
“Sb./Sth. be said to do”是固定句型,意为“据说某人做了某事”,用不定式作主语补足语,且escape(逃跑,逃脱)这一动作发生在“are said”之前,应用不定式的完成式to have done表已经发生,故填to have escaped。
19. The vocabulary and grammatical differences between British and American English are so trivial and few as hardly ________(notice).
【答案】to be noticed
“so...as to do...” 以至于……”,其中动词不定式作结果状语,又因notice(注意)与其逻辑主语“The vocabulary and grammatical differences”之间为被动关系,即“差异被注意到”,因此应使用不定式的被动形式to be done,故填to be noticed。
20. Weather ________(permit), we’ll hold the sports meeting as scheduled.

1. exploring 2. to stick 3. starred 4. saving 5. to change
6. to inspire 7. provided 8. was filmed 9. pleased 10. reflect
本句包含固定句型 it takes sth. to do sth.,不定式作真正主语,所以判断 stick 要用动词不定式形式,故填to stick。
固定搭配 have the power to do sth.
B
(改编自 25-26 高二下・新疆・期末) Poetry and painting are inseparable in Chinese culture. Many painters ___1___(take)ancient poetry as their inspiration, either directly illustrating famous lines of poems or ___2___(attempt) to evoke(唤起)them more delicately in the mind of the viewer. poems on nature and ancient ceremonies and customs. For painters who were themselves poets, one of the greatest ambitions was ___4___(create)a work which combined their original poetry, calligraphy, and painting into a well-organized artwork, ___5___(know)as the “three perfections” in Chinese.
The exhibition in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET) ___6___(explore)some of the ways in which Chinese painters engaged with poetry ___7___(build)connections and develop layers of meaning in their art. Featuring 90 works ___8___(draw)almost entirely from the MET’s collection, the exhibition presents a selection of painting, calligraphy, and decorative arts. ___9___(cover)works inspired by ancient Chinese poetry such as The Book of Odes (Shijing), poetry of the Tang Dynasty, Chan/Zen Buddhist poetry, and more, the exhibition examines the ways in which the image and the poetry inspired and ___10___(impact) one another over time.
1. took 2. attempting 3. including 4. to create 5. known
6. explores 7. to build 8. drawn 9. Covering 10. impacted
be known as 意为 “作为……

C. It requires its members to meet offline. D. It gets its members together once a week.
根据The Living Poets Society Poetry Book Club部分中的“The club has looked at Constellation Route by Matthew Olzmann and Luxury by Philip Schultz. And the latter is the first one the club has shared.(俱乐部看过马修·奥尔兹曼(Matthew Olzmann)的《星座路线》(Constellation Route)和菲利普·舒尔茨(Philip Schultz)的《奢侈品》(Luxury )。
Books to Change Your Life Chicago Book Club部分中的“In addition to enjoying engaging and insightful discussions about poetry, book club members can get to learn more about books of other genres(类型), including economics, philosophy and classic literature.(除了享受关于诗歌的引人入胜和有见地的讨论外,读书俱乐部成员还可以更多地了解其他类型的书籍,包括经济学、哲学和古典文学)”可知,Books to Change Your Life Chicago Book Club的成员可以在俱乐部中谈论不止一种类型的书籍,故选B。
Specific dates and locations of book club meetings are available on its Meetup. com web page.(读书俱乐部会议通常每月举行一次。
B
(25-26高一下·北京·期中)Due to shifts in media consumption and cultural habits, the relevance of poetry in our modern-day society remains the subject of debate. Critics argue that poetry has become outdated. However, poetry is, as the 18th century English poet John Keats put it, as follows:“A thing of beauty is a joy forever:
Its loveliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness, but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.”
I believe that poetry is still relevant today as it holds great benefit in our complex and fast-paced world.
Often, we hear comments that it is difficult to understand poems. Indeed, the deep meanings, metaphors and ambiguity(模糊不清)sometimes make it difficult for common people to enjoy them. To put it simply, it must be an acquired taste to find difficult language attractive. Against the background of a fast-paced world, the puzzling language of poetry might not appeal to most people.
Yet poetry, for all its complexities, allows individuals to express complex emotions and experiences in a way that standard language is unable to. Life is complex and often rejects a straightforward interpretation of its difficulties, so it makes sense that poetry does the same. Poet Dylan Thomas wrote, “Poetry is what in a poem makes you laugh, cry, prickles(有刺痛感), be silent, makes your toe nails twinkle, makes you want to do this or nothing, or that or nothing, makes you know that you are alone in the unknown world, that your bliss and suffering is forever shared and forever all your own.”
Poetry also plays a critical role in helping young people reflect on important issues. The rise in the consumption of short form content has conditioned the brain to seek instant gratification(满足), weakening the ability for deep thinking. On the other hand, reading complicated poetry can force readers to appreciate language rather than mindlessly snack on information, which might lead to an improvement in critical thinking skills. In an age of speed, poems can help people slow down and think about life.
Poetry, as an art form, also encourages creativity by offering an outlet for imaginative thinking and personal expression. In a world that is facing many complex problems, creativity fuels the development of new approaches that solve real-world problems. Poetry is a powerful tool for enhancing creativity as it allows individuals to break free from traditional forms of expression and experiment with language, rhythm, structure and sound. Besides language, poetry invites writers to dig deeply into emotions and ideas, allowing new insights to be uncovered.
Poetry might not be as popular now as it was in the past, but its benefits cannot be overlooked. Our modern world provides many reasons for why poetry is still relevant. It might not be possible to encourage everyday readers to enjoy poems such as The Waste Land by T. S. Eliot, but they certainly can learn to enjoy a poem that both challenges and entertains.
4. Why does the author mention John Keats’ poem?
A. To explain what poetry is. B. To argue poetry is relevant.
C. To give an example of good poems. D. To draw people’s attention to the topic.
5. What might be a reason for the decline of poetry?
A. Poets refuse to experiment with new structures and sounds.
B. Its complex language and deep meanings are hard to appreciate.
C. The modern world is gradually losing complex experiences.
D. Common people lack the basic education to read metaphors.
6. What can we learn from the passage?
A. People read poetry to improve critical skills.
B. Poetry erases the effects of short-form content.
C. Reading poetry makes one feel connected.
D. Imagination in poems breaks traditional boundaries.
7. Which would be the best title for the passage?
A. Poetry Connects Past and Present B. Poetry Loses Its Charm to New Media
C. Poetry Still Matters in Modern Times D. Poetry Fuels Thinking and Imagination
B 5. B 6. C 7. C
根据第一段中的“However, poetry is, as the 18th century English poet John Keats put it, as follows: “A thing of beauty is a joy forever: Its loveliness increases; it will never Pass into nothingness, but still will keep A bower quiet for us, and a sleep Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.”(然而,正如18世纪英国诗人约翰·济慈所说,诗歌如下:“美好的事物永远是一种欢乐:它的可爱之处会不断增加;它永远不会化为虚无;但它仍会为我们保留一个宁静的凉亭,一场充满甜蜜梦想、健康和宁静呼吸的睡眠。”)”以及第二段中的“I believe that poetry is still relevant today as it holds great benefit in our complex and fast-paced world.(我认为诗歌在当今依旧有存在价值,因为它在我们这个复杂且快节奏的世界中具有巨大的益处)”可知,作者引用济慈的诗句,是为了佐证自己的观点,论证诗歌在现代社会依旧有价值、有现实意义,故选B。
根据第三段中的“Indeed, the deep meanings, metaphors and ambiguity(模糊不清)sometimes make it difficult for common people to enjoy them. To put it simply, it must be an acquired taste to find difficult language attractive. Against the background of a fast-paced world, the puzzling language of poetry might not appeal to most people.(事实上,诗歌深层的含义、隐喻和模糊不清有时会让普通人难以欣赏它们。
根据第四段中的“Poet Dylan Thomas wrote, “Poetry is what in a poem makes you laugh, cry, prickles(有刺痛感), be silent, makes your toe nails twinkle, makes you want to do this or nothing, or that or nothing, makes you know that you are alone in the unknown world, that your bliss and suffering is forever shared and forever all your own.”(诗人狄兰·托马斯写道:“诗歌就是诗中能让你笑、让你哭、让你感到刺痛、让你沉默、让你的脚趾甲闪闪发亮、让你想做这件事或什么都不做、做那件事或什么都不做的东西,让你知道你在未知的世界里是孤独的,你的喜悦和痛苦永远是共享的,永远是你自己的。”)”
通读全文,尤其是首段中的“Due to shifts in media consumption and cultural habits, the relevance of poetry in our modern-day society remains the subject of debate. Critics argue that poetry has become outdated.(由于媒体消费和文化习惯的转变,诗歌在我们现代社会的意义仍然是争论的话题。批评者认为诗歌已经过时了)”以及最后一段中的“Poetry might not be as popular now as it was in the past, but its benefits cannot be overlooked. Our modern world provides many reasons for why poetry is still relevant. It might not be possible to encourage everyday readers to enjoy poems such as The Waste Land by T. S. Eliot, but they certainly can learn to enjoy a poem that both challenges and entertains.(诗歌现在可能不像过去那么受欢迎了,但它的益处不容忽视。
C
(25-26高二下·浙江台州·期末)In an era dominated by short-form content and instant gratification(即时满足), poetry is often regarded as an outdated literary form. Critics argue that its complex images, unusual rhyme patterns, and symbolic language make it difficult for modern readers to appreciate. Yet poetry’s value has not faded; rather, it has grown increasingly essential.
Poetry allows individuals to express complex emotions and experiences in a way that standard language is unable to. Life is complex and often rejects a simple interpretation of its hardships, so it makes sense that poetry does the same. Poet Dylan Thomas wrote, “A poem may make us laugh, cry, think deeply, or remain silent.” In an age marked by emotional pressure and uncertainty, poetry offers both writers and readers a healing release, helping them find connection in shared human experiences, whether those are about love, loss or joy.
Moreover, poetry plays a vital role in helping young people reflect and think deeply about social, political and cultural issues in this modern age. The rise of social media has conditioned the brain to seek quick fixes, weakening the ability for deep thinking and reflection. Reading a complicated poem—with its packed verses and layered meanings — can force readers to slow down and explore language rather than mindlessly snack on information, which might lead to an improvement in analytical and critical thinking skills.
Poetry, as an art form, also encourages creativity. Individuals can break free from traditional forms of expression and experiment with language, rhythm, structure and sound. Besides, poetry invites writers to dive deeply into emotions and ideas, allowing new insights and perspectives to be uncovered. Hence, poetry gains its significance in a society that highly values creativity.
Admittedly, poetry may never recover the popularity it once held during the Victorian era. It would be unrealistic to expect everyone to enjoy The Waste Land by T.S. Eliot. Yet readers can learn to appreciate poems that both challenge and entertain. Poetry still matters — not despite its difficulty, but because of it.
8. What is critics’ view on poetry in modern times?
A. It lacks deep meanings. B. It fails to relate to modern life.
C. It discourages average readers. D. It falls short of symbolic images.
9. What is the value of poetry according to paragraph 2?
A. Providing instant pleasure. B. Creating new literary trends.
C. Offering emotional connection. D. Encouraging social interaction.
10. What do the underlined words “snack on” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Dig into. B. Glance through. C. Reflect on. D. Sort out.
11. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. Difficulty sustains poetry’s appeal. B. Poetry will regain its popularity.
C. Readers dislike challenging poems. D. Everyone is expected to read poetry.
C 9. C 10. B 11. A
根据第一段的句子“Critics argue that its complex images, unusual rhyme patterns, and symbolic language make it difficult for modern readers to appreciate.
根据第二段的句子“In an age marked by emotional pressure and uncertainty, poetry offers both writers and readers a healing release, helping them find connection in shared human experiences, whether those are about love, loss or joy.
根据第三段的语境“Reading a complicated poem — with its packed verses and layered meanings — can force readers to slow down and explore language rather than mindlessly snack on information (阅读一首复杂的诗——诗节紧凑,含义层次分明——可以迫使读者放慢速度、探索语言,而不是无意识地snack on信息)”,rather than表示对比,前文是“slow down and explore (放慢探索)”,后文应是与之相反的快速浏览。
根据最后一段的句子“Poetry still matters — not despite its difficulty, but because of it.

①_______ from the top of the tower, the south foot of the mountain is a sea of trees.
A. Seen B. Seeing C. Have seen D. To see
【答案】A
答案A。 Seeing from the top of the tower, we can see that the south foot of the mountain is a sea of trees.
②Faced with a bill for $10,000, _______.
A. an extra job has been given to John B. the boss has given John an extra job
C. an extra job has been taken D. John has taken an extra job
considering…(鉴于/考虑到……) judging by/from…(从……
according to…(依据……) given…(考虑到……)
owing to…(由于……)
