I was really worried about this moment. “I was thinking,” I said, “maybe we'll skip the competition and just work hard on the concerts this year.” “NO!” the kids disagreed. “We want to compete! For the First Place! It's a tradition!” This was true. Medals on the front wall of the music room were won by my former excellent students. But they had graduated, leaving me with only twentytwo young students, inexperienced kids who couldn't read music, and could sing only a simple melody (乐章). “Maybe we could win the Second Place this year,” I suggested. I knew even that would be a nearimpossible task, thinking our competitors: two famous schools with fifty members each. “No!” the kids screamed. “The First Place!” I shook my head. “First Place is extremely difficult.” “We can do it!” they shouted. “We can do it!” “I'll think about it,” I said, hoping their eagerness would die off in a couple of weeks. But that didn't happen. Instead, the class became more determined. Every day they asked and begged. As a teacher, I couldn't tell them they weren't good enough. To cool their eagerness, I showed them a difficult piece of music from the competition list, but it simply ended with “It's okay, Mrs Pliszka. We'll make it.” I struggled to make a decision. If I destroyed their hope, would I destroy their spirit? I remembered one of my college professor's saying, “Every child will learn if the teacher is willing to try his or her best as the student.” I wasn't afraid of hard work, and I enjoyed a challenge. But I wasn't a magic worker. And so, I think seriously over this challenge. Finally, one morning I made the decision. When my group stepped on the stage, I could clearly notice distrust from the audience saying my group was so small. 关键信息 when before music contest what I was at hesitation about whether to be in the music contest between competitive competitors and strong eagerness from young and inexperienced students. who I(担心比赛结果打消学生热情,重新考虑) ①I was really worried__about this moment and said “maybe we'll skip the competition”. ②I shook my head because First Place was extremely difficult. ③“I'll think about it,” I said, hoping their eagerness would die__off. ④I showed them a__difficult__piece__of__music from the competition list. ⑤I think__seriously__over this challenge. We'll make__it.” 语言润色 运用多个并列谓语动词,使句式更加整齐,文章更加流畅自然,例如:“As the weeks progressed, each morning the kids practised singing, worked on reading music, learned musical terms, practiced rhythm and marked changes, prepared concert music, and went over and over the three contest numbers.” 2. 例如:“and”“even”“finally”。 3. Finally, one morning I made the decision. I stormed into class and declared we would sing for the contest and entered Class A. The rest of my sentence was lost in screams of delight and applause. As the weeks progressed, each morning the kids practised singing, worked on reading music, learned musical terms, practiced rhythm and marked changes, prepared concert music, and went over and over the three contest numbers. Their progress was so remarkable even I began believing in their dream. Seven months into the school year, when the contest day finally arrived, the kids felt ready to take on the world! When my group stepped on the stage, I could clearly notice distrust from the audience saying my group was so small. I mouthed, “Smile!” They looked confident. I took a deep breath, and we began. They performed masterfully. Two very long hours later the results were posted. I stood frozen, staring at the list in disbelief: a First Place award with the highest marks of all.All around kids were screaming and embracing. Warm tears wet my cheeks. I was surrounded by kids who had a dream, kids who refused to give up, kids who taught me to never doubt the possibility of success for any student or any class ever again. (2024·浙江省慈溪市高二期末测试)Rahul was a hardworking and determined individual who believed that success could only be achieved through perseverance and effort. He had big dreams of becoming a renowned musician, and he knew that it would require countless hours of practice and dedication to reach his goal. Rahul's family was not wealthy, and they couldn't afford to buy him a musical instrument. However, Rahul's unwavering determination pushed him to find a solution. He began working odd jobs in the village, doing chores for neighbors, and saving every penny he earned. He even started waking up early in the morning to help the local farmers with their work. After months of saving, Rahul finally had enough money to buy a second-hand guitar. It was old and worn, but to Rahul, it was a treasure. He spent hours each day practicing, strumming the strings and experimenting with different melodies. His fingers grew calloused (起茧的), but he never complained. Instead, he saw it as a sign of progress, a proof to his hard work. Despite his talent, Rahul faced numerous challenges along his journey. People would often discourage him, telling him that he was wasting his time pursuing his dreams. But Rahul remained determined, using their skepticism as fuel to work even harder. One day, news spread throughout the village about a music competition being held in the nearby city. The competition promised the winner a chance to perform in front of renowned musicians and industry professionals. Rahul saw this as an opportunity to showcase his talent and prove to everyone that hard work pays off. With great anticipation, Rahul prepared for the competition. He practiced day and night, finetuning his skills and perfecting his performance. Finally, the day of the competition arrived.
