一、阅读理解
Passage1. I think the biggest difference between middle and high school is the homework load (工作量) and size of the school. I went from maybe fifteen minutes of homework a night to several hours, so I had to learn how to make full use of time! Our class size is around 550, but joining in clubs, sports, music, and other activities at school makes it easier to get to know people in every grade.
The best advice I can give about the years you spend in high school is to learn things for yourself, not just to get a good grade. There have been so many tests that I’ve prepared for the night before. I have gotten an A, and not remembered anything later. I’ve changed that this year, and I enjoy school so much more. Don’t take easy classes just to have a simple year. If you have a choice between chemistry and sports, the first will prove to be a lot more useful!
While drinking and smoking might be present in some middle schools, they’re also around in high schools. I have a lot of friends who promised they'd never drink or smoke, but are now partying every weekend. If you have “fun” and spend your nights wasted instead of studying, you will regret it when you’re applying for (申请) college. The “friends” who say you’re a loser for not partying are really not your friends at all. It’s hard to see your closest friends grow apart and go in different directions, but don’t follow their footsteps. Create your own path in life and make your own decisions.

4.The text is probably written by ________?
A.a sports player B.a college student

These new teachers will usually have higher academic expectations than your junior high school teachers. Passage3. “Is this a high school or a small town?” I thought to myself scanning (浏览) my campus map. It was my first day of classes at my senior high school. I felt like an ant at that huge school.
I found my schedule and placed it next to the map. I had a biology class at 9:30 am in the BISIC building. I looked at my watch. It was 9:05 am, which gave me plenty of time, or so I thought. After walking around for 15 minutes, unable to find my way, I began to get very anxious. Just then a middle-aged woman in a bright purple dress approached (走近) me and asked me if I needed help. “Yes,” I said. “I am looking for the BISIC building.” A smile appeared on the lady’s face. “Oh, don’t worry, that is nearby!” She offered to direct me to my class, and I made it to my first class on time.
The strange faces around me brought a sense of loneliness. I didn’t know one person in that great big class. When my last class came to a close, the nervousness of the day finally disappeared.
It was finally time to go home. Along my walk, I recollected my classes and activities of the day and the new friends I had made. The comfort of arriving home was the best feeling that day. The day had so many things. All in all, I felt very thankful to have the chance to study in such a great high school.

Passage4. Finally came Wednesday! I walked onto campus feeling nervous even though I had walked these same grounds for two years because my junior high school is next door. Everything looked and felt different now that I was in senior high.
I looked at my schedule. First period — German. Our German teacher was very friendly and I liked her from the beginning. What I didn't like, though, was that I was surrounded by students from other grades, with only five familiar faces.
Then I had to walk all the way across campus and up three flights of stairs to get to my second period — biology. Our teacher's name is Ms.Compeau, and I think that she will teach us a lot this year because she is very to the point. She also has her unique way of saying “be quiet,” she says “alligator.” She explained that she is the king, or should I say queen, of the class because alligators are the“king of the swamps (沼泽).”
My third class was English. After surviving two periods without too much of a challenge, I began to feel good. However, the third period changed everything. Mr.V.,my English teacher, told us that we would have to write 40 essays (文章) and read AP-level books such as The Odyssey this year. I love reading and writing, but 40 ESSAYS? AP-level books? Now I was scared. He also talked about how important it was to be focused. Last year was not a very “focused”year for me. While doing homework, I was often talking on the phone, or busy with a conversation on Facebook. I planned on stepping it up this year because I wanted to stay an honor student.

D.Because she did poorly at school.
Passage5. Freshman year of high school is a big transition (过渡) for any student.
Luckily, you’re not the only person going through this, and plenty of others have made the transition before you too.
One of the ways in which high school is different from middle school or junior high the most is the higher expectations. You’ll find that you’re expected to keep closer track of your own schedule and responsibilities with fewer people checking up on you. At the same time, your classes are likely to become more challenging, and you might be participating in new school activities as well.
Some students find it hard to keep up with everything at first, which is totally normal. One way to prepare in advance for these higher expectations is to make sure that you have organized schedules in place before you start high school.
Another important skill for meeting these higher expectations is building a strong support network. No matter how strong a student you are, at some point you will need some help. Keeping healthy relationships with your friends and teachers is a great way to make sure that you have people who are willing to help when you need them.
Try to get to know at least some of your teachers beyond your classroom communication. Be an active learner during class and stay after class to ask questions. Take advantage of email or class messaging systems. The better your teachers know you, the better prepared they’ll be to help when you need them.
It’s important for you to keep in mind as you start high school that no one is perfect. Transitions are hard for everyone, and starting high school is a big transition. These challenges provide a great chance to reinvent (重塑) yourself.
1.In the author’s view, the biggest difference between high school and middle school is ________.

C.What to Prepare to Keep up with Everything in High School
D.How to Meet Your Teacher’s High Expectations
Passage6. In the UK and the US, senior high school students take part in various after-school activities, such as club activities and volunteer work. These activities not only help them gain more skills, but also teach them to care about others. After-school activities also play a part when students apply to college. However, they can take up a lot of time, so students have to learn to organize their busy schedules. To help them do this, some senior high schools offer courses in time management.
Those who do not enjoy team sports can choose from indoor and outdoor rock climbing, fitness and weight training, yoga, and more. We can also work with students to structure independent activities for activities that we currently don’t offer. Recent examples of independent activities include skating, swimming, and gymnastics.
For one of the three trimesters, students can choose a non-physical activity, such as theater, debate, literary magazine, yearbook, and more.

You’re not alone. Remember that everybody else in your year is in the same boat. You may not notice it, but they’re just as nervous as you are.
Moving to senior high school is a chance, not a problem. Things are different, and all you need to do is to be polite and learn the new rules.
The teachers will help. If you don’t know what to do or are worried about something, then ask for help.Teachers are probably the best people to turn to, because they have experience in helping new students.Pay attention to what your teachers say.
Everything changes. There are lots of differences between junior high school and senior high school. You will have your lessons with different teachers in different rooms. You will have homework for different subjects on different days, so make sure you get organized. Make sure you know which rooms your classes are in and which days you have your different subjects on.

3.How did the author find her first two classes?
A.Unattractive. B.Informative.
C.Very tiring. D.Pretty easy.
4.Why did the author feel scared during the third period?
A.Because she couldn't focus on her work.
B.Because she found the class demanding.
C.Because she didn't like the teacher.
