Johnny Agar had always dreamed of competing in triathlons(铁人三项赛)as an athlete.
Unfortunately,he'd been diagnosed with cerebral palsy(大脑性瘫痪)shortly after he was born. This
disorder makes it difficult for the now-28-year-old to get around. However,he and his father are
proving that where there's a will-and a lot of love-there's a way!
Jeff Agar,59,is helping Johnny experience life to the fullest by entering triathlons by his side.
As a team, they've completed over 200 races, including a full ironman triathlon that required them to
swim, bike and run 140 miles in just 17 hours.
"I'm not a fan of triathlon,"Jeff joked."I'm doing it not because I love it.This is Johnny's
dream and I'm giving him the legs and the power to do it."Although Jeff typically provides the
majority of the manpower,it was important for Johnny to cross the finish line on his own legs.
"Walking in races was my way of telling Dad,Okay,I'm not just going to say thank-you anymore;
I'm going to actually put words into action,"Johnny said.
Johnny and his dad now form Team Agar, using their story and the power of motivational
speaking to inspire others."When we completed that 140-mile Ironman together,it had an amazing
impact on many people who had seen our story. We began to see that competing isn't just about us
crossing the finish line;it's about helping others leave uncertainty in the dust-even those facing
greater obstacles than we did.
Earlier this month, they received some incredible news. They were invited to compete in one of
the toughest triathlons:the Ironman World Championship! What made the occasion even more special

In various restaurants worldwide, there's a new sight-child-sized robots. These robots can welcome
guests, show them to their tables, deliver food and drinks, and even transport dirty dishes back to the
kitchen. Some believe these robot waiters could be a solution to today's worker shortages in the
restaurant industry, with tens of thousands of them now in use.
But other people think that robots can't replace human workers.Robot waiters can't take orders,
and they struggle with steps, limiting their abilities.
Despite these disadvantages,their use is growing.For example,in Madison Heights,Michigan,
Li Zhai faced difficulty finding enough workers for his restaurant,Noodle Topia. To address this,he
purchased robots from Pudu Robotics. These robots have been a success, with one leading diners to
their seats, another delivering food, and a third transporting dirty dishes.
Zhai found that using these robots reduced his need for employees.Three robots now do the work
of what used to require five or six people. In terms of cost,a robot costs around $15,000,while a
human can cost $5,000 to $6,000 per month.These robots.also have a surprising benefit-they free
up human servers to spend more time with customers, resulting in increased tips.Additionally, diners
often share videos of the robots on social media, attracting more visitors to the restaurant.
However, not all restaurants have had the same success. For instance,Chili's(奇利斯餐厅)
introduced robot servers in 2020,expanding the test to 61 U.S.restaurants before suddenly stopping
the program. The robots were criticized for their slow movement and getting in the way of human
servers.A survey showed that 58%of guests believed the robots didn't improve their overall dining
experience.
28.What is the purpose of the first paragraph?
A.To introduce a survey about robot waiters.
B.To show the success of robot waiters in restaurants.

A well-intentioned()solution is often offered to climate-conscious consumers:to replace
beef on our plates with chicken. While on paper this brings down an individual's dietary carbon
footprint,in practice this would mean that billions more animals will be killed each year.Meanwhile,
even more factory farms continue to harm the climate and humans in the process.Much can be
debated about the best way to deal with climate change but one of its sources is undoubtedly true:the
way we produce food-specifically for meat-spells disaster for our planet.
It's true that for every gram of protein, conventional beef has almost 10 times the
carbon footprint of chicken.Beef uses 23 times as much farmland and 3 times as much water. But the
consumption shift from beef to chicken is contributing to a crisis of another kind.Approximately 134
chickens must be killed to produce one cow's worth of meat, which is extremely cruel and environmentally
unfriendly, causing dead zones and having damaging chain effects on the communities living near these
facilities whose health, water supply, and quality of life are affected by this pollution.
The most influential dietary change we can make to reduce our individual influence on animals
and the environment is actually to shift from conventionally produced,factory-farmed animal products
to pasture-based(基于牧场的)meat,eggs or dairy products and plant-based protein sources. It's not
all-or-nothing.The average American could cut their diet-related environmental influences by nearly
half just by eating less meat and fewer eggs and dairy products.Gradually, individual changes can
add up to a big difference to both animals and the environment, but the responsibility shouldn't fall on
individuals alone. We urgently need our government to stop enforcing this disastrous system and
redirect'support to more humane, sustainable(可持续的)food and production methods,.
To spare animals from suffering, slow down climate change and protect our food system,we need
to take factory farming off the table. It's time to stop leaping from the frying pan to the fire and rethink
our food system.
32.What can we know about the "well-intentioned solution"?
A.It is actually a recipe for disaster.
B.It works well in reducing the carbon footprint.
C.It means a change in our way of raising animals.
D.It was put forward by climate-conscious consumers.
33.How does the author argue his point in Paragraph 2?
A.By doing surveys.
B.By giving examples.
C.By referring to papers.
D.By using persuasive data.

34.What does the third paragraph mainly talk about?
A.The effort the government has put into the food system.
B.Influences people's eating habit has on the environment.
C.The changes individuals and the government should make.
D.Measures the government can take to limit human activities.
35.What does the author want to stress in the text?
A.It's necessary to say no to factory farming.
B.It's time to replace beef on our plates with chicken.
C.We need to take animal-based products off our table.
D.Turning from factory farming to pasture farming takes time.

第二节(共10小题:每小题1.5分,满分15分)
阅读下面短文,在空白处填人1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
The very ancient poetry that 56 (write)a thousand or more years ago was simpler and about
common things like love, romance and nature that people appreciate.Though much poetry was
created in the eras following the Song dynasty,it is thought that the poets became increasingly 57
academy)and hard to understand so that modern Chinese can't appreciate the style and meaning.
For foreigners,ancient Chinese poetry 58 (be)more difficult 59 (comprehend).One
of the reasons is the nature of Chinese characters 60 (they).Often one character has many
meanings,61 makes the translation of Chinese into English a key part of reading and
understanding Chinese poetry.Put simply, good translation is essential to 62 (full)understand
Chinese poems.
Another point worth 63(notice)about ancient Chinese poetry is that it is influenced by
Confucian and Taoist thinking.Ancient Chinese poetry has a focus of friendship besides love or being
64 lover.Friendships,to the village, the community, the country or your drinking friends are
dominant themes. The poets'main task seems to be just writing poetry, because a life as a poet is an
important thing. In this respect,Chinese poetry is all 65 the poet, the "meaning"for the poet
and not what is happening around the poet.
