With the efforts (努力) of China’s government and people, the rate of forest coverage in China has reached to 22.96%, compared (与……相比) to 5.05% forty years ago, according to a recent report from the State Forestry and Grassland Administration (SFGA). Over the past forty years, China planted billions (几十亿) of trees as a part of its fight against growing deserts, mostly in its north. Each year, people plant trees over an area nearly the size of Ireland, according to Nature. In 1978, China began a nationwide tree-planting programme known as the Three North Shelterbelt Forest Programme, also known as “the Great Green Wall”. It has helped to plant more than 66 billion trees across 13 provinces in the country’s north to act as windbreaks (防风林), according to China Daily. Since 2018 SFGA has made more efforts to build a greener country. Its purpose is to grow at least 6.7 million hectares (公顷) of forest every year in the next 15 years. Besides planting more trees, China has tried to bring back grasslands. It has also used strict forest protection methods and banned (禁止) all commercial logging (商业伐木) since last August. The high-speed growth of forests needs more people to take part in the green activities. For example, Ant Forest, an Alipay mobile payment app, plants real trees for users who get “green energy” by taking part in low-carbon (低碳) activities. Since 2016, it has helped to plant about 122 million trees in China’s driest areas. China was praised as “one of the most successful countries worldwide in greening the desert” by United Nations Environment Programme Executive Director Erik Solheim. 41. How much has the rate of forest coverage rose during the forty years? A. 22.96%. B. 5.05%. C. 17.91%. D. 28.01%. 42. Why has China planted billions of trees over the past forty years? A. He will tell you whether your answers are correct.” Back at the library, we discovered Jasmine and Jackson already sitting by a computer, looking for answers to their clue questions. They left soon after we arrived. “They’re ahead of us! We need to hurry,” I said. Gabe typed as fast as he could, and it didn’t take us long to find our answers. I hoped the rain wouldn’t stop us. We could hear thunder once we got back outside the library. “Hopefully Jackson and Jasmine don’t know their way around the college like I do. Maybe it will slow them down,” I said, as we got to the music building. I knew my way around because my mom works here. I also knew Dr. Hamiton, who would check our answers. … I introduced Gabe and Dr. Hamiton when we got to the right office. “Let’s see those questions and answers,” Dr. Hamilton said. I handed him our paper. Dr. Hamilton read, “You have Rite of Spring as the song and Fantasia as the movie. These are correct.” He handed us an envelope and said, “Congratulations! You may open this once you are outside.” We shouted our goodbyes and thanks as we raced back to our bikes. “Go to the city’s storage building on Leafy Path in Pioneer Park, and look for a box. Further instructions will be inside.” Gabe opened the envelope and read it out. 46. What’s the route of Gabe and I? A Library --- School --- Pioneers Park --- College B. I hope I can offer you some useful suggestions. It’s true that study comes first to a ninth grader, while health matters more. You’d better make plans for your schoolwork and manage your time better so that you can have more time for your hobbies and sports. Anyway, it is your parents who care about you most. They just don’t know how to express their love. Sharing your real thoughts and feelings with them is of great help to your relationship. To be honest, working as the monitor of a class is really a challenging job, because sometimes you do need to depend on others or worry about what others are thinking about or doing. However, you are supposed to learn to work with others in a wise way. What’s more, you can talk to your teacher and find out ways to make your classmates take part more willingly and actively. As for being serious or funny, everyone has a different sense of humor. If you aren’t a good joke-teller, you can be a great listener or show some other talents. It’s OK to just be yourself. Hope my advice is of some help to you. Yours sincerely, Mike 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$null
