(23-24高二上·北京房山·期中)Color is fundamental in home design — something you’ll always have in every room. A grasp of how to manage color in your spaces is one of the first steps to creating rooms you’ll love to live in. Do you want a room that’s full of life? Professional? Or are you just looking for a place to relax after a long day? 1
Over the years, there have been a number of different techniques to help designers approach this important point. 2 But good news is that there’re really only three kinds of decisions you need to make about color in your home: the small ones, the medium ones, and the large ones.
3 They’re the little spots of color like throw pillows, mirrors and baskets that most of us use to add visual interest to our rooms. Less tiring than painting your walls and less expensive than buying a colorful sofa, small color choices bring with them the significant benefit of being easily changeable.
Medium color choices are generally furniture pieces such as sofas, dinner tables or bookshelves. 4 They require a bigger commitment than smaller ones, and they have a more powerful effect on the feeling of a space.
The large color decisions in your rooms concern the walls, ceilings, and floors. 5 So it pays to be sure, because you want to get it right the first time.
A.While all of them are useful, they can get a little complex.
B.Small color choices are the ones we’re most familiar with.
C.It’s not really a good idea to use too many small color pieces.
D.When looking for room color ideas, start by embracing color theory.
E.Color choices in this range are a step up from the small ones in two major ways.
F.Whatever you’re looking for, color is the key to making a room feel the way you want it to feel.
G.Whether you’re looking at wallpaper or paint, the time, effort and relative expense put into it are important.
(23-24高二上·北京大兴·期中)Have you become really interested in self-improvement lately? This pursuit of more and better things, whether they be better health, clothes, or money has been normalized, but sometimes to the detriment of people’s wellbeing. This self-improvement mindset can make you feel disempowered, like you should be someone else. Here are five time-wasting self-improvement habits that are harmful to you.
Extremely high and unrealistic expectations
Having goals can be very helpful since it can help give you something to work towards and place your energy into. 6 This is a harmful habit because you’re not focused on yourself and your enjoyment of life, but on achieving other people’s ideals. Remember, you don’t have to be perfect, you just need to be yourself.
The quick culture mentality
The idea about how you must never give up or that you must constantly hustle, even at the expense of your health can be very damaging to your wellbeing. Sometimes, things just don’t work out and you need to give up, but that’s not a bad thing. 7 As much as there are people who have support themselves and others by working long hours, constantly hustling without taking any breaks for yourself to get your bearings may only lead to burnout.
Putting aesthetics (审美) over health
Social media can be a tool to help you change your life for the better, it can also mislead how you see yourself and others. 8 Women are implored to get dangerous, unnecessary cosmetic surgery and men are told to be jacked and in the gym by any means for those gains, but our bodies are not trends that we should be ashamed of.
Information without application
Like many others, you may decide to apply the self-improvement information once you finished reading all of it, but there are so many books about it and new ones keeps coming out. 9 As powerful as knowledge is, applied knowledge is the best kind. Don’t be afraid to apply what you’ve learnt into the world.
Visualizations without action
Perhaps you see yourself as a painter, or you wish you’d have a big house. Visualizing the life you want and putting it out there can be a great way to get yourself motivated. However, this can become an issue when you only put it out there and dream about it with nothing in between to bridge the gap. 10 Remember that you have to actually do it to get there.
A.It can be heartbreaking and tough, but it may be necessary.
B.It will be too bad if you fail to keep your momentum and work on.
C.You need to create great expectations in order to drive yourself forward.
D.If it lacks the structure and action, all you dreamt about is only a dream.
E.However, you might create wild expectations which are too much for yourself.
F.Instead of promoting healthy lifestyles, it advertises certain body types as desirable.
G.All of these how-to’s can be helpful, but they are useless if you don’t actually use them.
Failure is probably the most exhausting experience a person ever has. There is nothing more tiring than not succeeding. 11
In the former case, we keep putting off a task because it was either too boring or too difficult. And the longer we delay it, the more tired we feel. Such start-up fatigue is very real, even if not actually physical, not something in our muscles and bones. 12
Years ago, I was asked to write 102 essays on the great ideas of some famous authors. Applying my own rule, I determined to write them alphabetically, never letting myself leave out a tough idea. And I always started the day's work with the difficult task of essay-writing. The experience proved that the rule works.
13 Though willing to get started, we cannot seem to do the job right. Its difficulties appear so great that, however hard we work, we fail again and again. In such a situation, I work as hard as I can--then let the unconscious (无意识的) take over.
When planning Encyclopaedia Britannica, I had to create a table of contents based on the topics of its articles. 14 but none of them worked. My fatigue became almost unbearable.
One day, mentally exhausted, I wrote down all the reasons why this problem could not be solved. I tried to convince myself that the trouble was with the problem itself, not with me. Relieved, I sat back in an easy chair and fell asleep.
An hour later, I woke up suddenly with the solution clearly in mind. 15 Though I worked as hard as before, I felt no fatigue. Success was now as exciting as failure had been depressing.
Human beings, I believe must try to succeed. Success, then, means never feeling tired.
A.Performance fatigue is more difficult to handle.
B.We do everything we can to get ourselves out of this gloomy situation.
C.We experience this tiredness in two ways: start-up fatigue and performance fatigue.
D.Nothing like this had ever been done before, and day after day I kept coming up with solutions.
E.The solution is obvious though-perhaps not easy to apply: always handle the most difficult job first.
F.What's more, making use of your unconsciousness wisely also proves effective in tackling difficult tasks.
G.In the weeks that followed, the solution which had come up in my unconscious mind proved correct at every step.
(23-24高二上·北京房山·期中)Everyone complains. Even if you argue that you are the happiest person in the world, you still complain sometimes. Sometimes you complain without even realizing it, but rarely is it ever helpful. 16 Here are some tips to stop complaining and give up the negative thoughts.
17
When you find yourself thinking or saying a negative comment about something or someone, stop and force yourself to say something positive instead. Seek the help of a cheerful friend to change you when you complain and help you to see the positive in the situation.
Make a list of things you are grateful for.
You often complain about the things you don’t have without noticing those things you already have. Be grateful for what you have in your life because you are lucky simply for being yourselves. 18
Learn to adapt to the changes.
There are many things you can’t change. 19 Always find the positive side of each situation, regardless of however difficult the situation is. With parents’ and friends’ support, you can survive any life changes.
Allow yourself to vent (发泄) your feelings every once in a while.
Constantly ignoring negative thoughts could add up. If you are really going through a rough time, don’t be afraid to share your feelings with a close friend or family member or see a therapist.
Find what makes you happy.
20 Maybe it is time to make the hard decision to move on to another job or career. Uncover what your biggest complaints are about and see if you can change the situation to make you happy. Choose happiness, focus on the positive, and be kind always!
A.Sometimes this list can be easy, full of hobbies you enjoy.
B.The best and only thing you can do is to accept them.
C.Change the way you think.
D.Are you constantly complaining about your present job?
E.Set down things you are thankful for and you’ll see that you don’t have any reason to complain.
F.Make friends with positive people.
G.So how can you manage to force yourselves to end complaining?
(23-24高二上·北京·期中)There’s nothing like family. The people we’re related to by blood and marriage are expected to be our greatest sources of love and support. Too often, however, our interactions with family are filled with misunderstanding and resentment. Those we should know and be known by best, end up feeling like adversaries or strangers.
Family is where our first and strongest emotional memories are made, and that’s where they keep appearing. And this is why emotional intelligence(EQ)succeeds where other efforts at family harmony fail. 21 The suggestions offered below are transformed from familiar reasonable advice, to highly effective methods for bringing your family ever closer.
Look to yourself first. A family is a system made up of interdependent individuals, but that doesn’t mean you can blame your family of origin for the way you are today 22 When you act on the belief that you have a right and obligation to assert your own emotional needs, your family will notice that your emotional independence benefits not only you, but the whole family, and they may quickly follow your lead.
Recognize that being close doesn’t mean being clones. Sometimes family ties blind us to the uniqueness of those we love. Pride in the family continuum can make it easy to forget that. You can’t be expected to have the same talents as your siblings, even though you may look a lot alike. 23
Cherish every stage of life in each family member. No matter how well we understand that it can’t happen, we desperately want Mom and Dad to stay the way they are, and for the kids to stay home forever. 24 Accept the natural fear that your parents’ aging evokes but use your emotional awareness and empathy to figure out how you can cherish this moment for its unique qualities. What can you and your parents share now that wasn’t possible in the past? Can you keep having fun and make sure everyone still feels useful and worthy in the family support system?
25 Fully accepting your fear of change can make it easier to ask questions that you may have considered awkward in the past. Maybe your parents are just waiting for your cue. Feel them out. In a flexible, healthy family dynamic, change is just one of the many opportunities you have to enrich one another.
A.Your best hope for fixing any family problem is to attend your own emotional health.
B.You won’t necessarily choose to follow in parent’s footsteps.
C.It’s also important to keep your awareness active with family.
D.The best to accept that fact emotionally, is to embrace change.
E.People all change, and yet many seem to only see change in themselves.
F.If you’re not sure what will work, ask.
G.Active awareness and empathy tell us how to respond to one another’s needs.
Tornadoes
Tornadoes are essentially funnels of air rotating as fast as 300 miles per hour. Of course, not all tornadoes are so dangerous. 26 Such small tornadoes occur in many places around the world, even in southern Taiwan, where several are usually reported every spring.
It is, however, the big tornadoes that receive the most attention. 27 There can be flocks of dead birds dropping out of the sky, chickens still alive but with all of their feathers gone, pieces of straw stuck in trees. In a 1999 US storm, violent winds from one tornado lifted a church into the air and dropped it onto a house. In the same storm, a baby was whipped from its mother’s arms and, miraculously, found alive in a nearby tree.
28 Although scientists now know a great deal about tornadoes, they still cannot determine exactly when and where one will form. In addition, the path of a tornado can also be impossible to predict. It is unlikely to move in a straight line, and will often turn quickly. A tornado might blow down a line of houses, then suddenly lift up and leave one home unhurt, then touch back down and destroy the rest of the line.
To better understand tornadoes, scientists have developed special heavy-duty vehicles and weather-monitoring equipment that allow them to make close-up observations of these dangerous storms. Radar equipment is put on trucks and driven near a tornado, where it records wind speeds and other weather data. 29
In addition, better communication and warning systems are also helping to reduce deaths and injuries in many tornado-prone areas. Radio and television warnings as well as sirens help to alert people to potential danger. Public awareness is also important. When tornadoes do occur, people must act quickly. They should move immediately to a safe place such as a basement or under a strong stairway and cover themselves with blankets or heavy coats. 30
A.Either big storms or small ones can form quickly causing damage to some degree.
B.These bring not only death and destruction, but also stories of strange phenomena.
C.Many more are small storms that form quickly and disappear, causing little or no damage.
D.A tornado can arrive so unexpectedly that a matter of seconds can mean the difference between life and death.
E.Driving the radar hundreds of miles to chase down a tornado is a best job that can be quite dangerous.
F.What makes tornadoes so dangerous is not just their great power but also their unpredictable nature.
G.Scientists often have to drive the radar hundreds of miles to chase down a tornado — a job that can be quite dangerous!
(21-22高二上·北京朝阳·期中)It had been a hard week for Jack. His parents had to cancel the family’s spring vacation to Disney World. 31 And he studied the wrong chapter for his science test. Jack pressed the play button on his CD player. As his favorite song played, Jack thought about the coming weekend. After a few minutes, he called to his sister in the next room. “Hey, how about playing basketball?”
32 The right song can make you smile and feel like getting up and dancing. It can also calm you down when you’re worried. Besides changing how you feel, music may help make your brain work better.
33 It may be because peopled bodies have natural rhythms, such as a heartbeat and pulse. Different kinds of music can affect you in different ways. Changing your mood can be as easy as pressing the “play” button.
Soft music with long, gentle notes is what many people play to relax. If you want to relax, try listening to nature sounds. 34 Maybe just hearing a single voice soothes you. At an exhibit in New York City, visitors can lie down on the city’s latest futon bed. They close their eyes, put on headphones, and listen to soft music, relaxing themselves.
Music can do more than just help them relax. Playing music while studying helps keep your brain in shape. When you listen to a sound, it travels from the ear to the brain by electrical signal and it involves learning, memory, and emotions. Experts suggest playing slow music to help you concentrate while you study. It may even improve your memory. 35 For example, if you’re reading a beautiful poem, playing light music may help you understand it better.
No matter what style of music you like, you can use it to help you. The right music can add to a good mood or turn around a bad day. Just ask Jack. After listening to his favorite song, he put his tough week behind him and played a great game of basketball with his sister.
A.Why does music have these powers?
B.It may help make people healthy again.
C.His basketball team lost an important game.
D.Why can music help you stay longer in a place?
E.Or look for music with a single instrument you like.
F.So try to match the type of music to the type of learning.
G.Music can be just what you need when you’re feeling down.
A peer is a person who is about the same age as you. Peers affect your life, whether you know it or not, just by spending time with you.
36 Maybe another student in your science class taught you an easy way to remember the planets in solar system. Maybe you got others excited about your new favorite book and now everyone's reading it. However, sometimes peers affect one another in another way. 37 Maybe a kid in the neighborhood wanted you to steal with him.
Some kids give in to peer pressure because they want to be liked, to fit in, or because they worry that other kids may make fun of them if they don't go along with the group. 38 The idea that “everyone’s doing it” may influence some kids to leave their better judgments or their common senses behind.
39 In one study, a student who knew the correct answer to a question actually gave the wrong answer because all the others in the class gave the wrong answer and he didn't want to be different. That holds true for people of any age in peer pressure situations.
40 Paying attention to your own feelings and beliefs about what is right and wrong can help you know the right thing to do. Inner strength and self-confidence can help you stand firm, walk away and resist doing something when you know better.
A.Peers can have a good effect on one another.
B.Peer pressure is the direct influence on people by peers.
C.Good peers may give you a hand when you are in trouble.
D.Peer pressure can be extremely strong and hard to get rid of.
E.Maybe one kid in school tried to get another to cut class with him.
F.It can be hard to walk away from peer pressure, but it can be done.
G.Others may go along because they are curious to try something new that others are doing.

To begin with respectful, neighbors should always be respectful and maintain the loyalty between each other and having a good reputation among society. 42 For example, our neighbors should not be noisy because in my family there are many students and they need a quiet atmosphere in order to studying and concentrate on their fields. Moreover they have to avoid of interfering and spying on each other and respect privacy in their lives.
43 For instance, one day I remember a fire was happened in our kitchen. Another aspect of preferable neighbors is to be reliable and trustworthy. 44 And also you may not be worried about any bad events that may happen to you such as if a burglar wants to attempt your house when he found out that you are not at home, the vigilant neighbors immediately call the police and guide your house not to be stolen.
In conclusion, the these above are vital characteristics of good neighbors. Neighbors will not cause inconvenience to others, be tolerant, cooperatives and dependable in the local community life. 45

G.As a result, neighbors could live cheerfully, happily and harmoniously together.
Exploring Psychology
Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behavior. Gaining a richer and deeper understanding of psychology can help people achieve insights into their own actions as well as a better understanding of other people. 46
One important benefit from a psychology major is that it teaches the student about the human mind and why people act in various manners. Not all psychology majors will become psychologists. 47 All people must interact with others whether it is at home or at a workplace. People respond to these interactions in a wide number of ways. For instance, the person may not know why he or she is bothered by a specific action at work. However, the person who has studied psychology has an obvious advantage in this area.
Psychology also offers the individual insight into himself or herself. As the person learns about the human mind, how it works and why people behave in specific manners, the person may also begin to recognize both harmful and helpful thought patterns in himself or herself.
This may lead the person to an increased level of self-awareness. 48 It also shows the person where he or she possesses strength and crucial skills for the modern world. Individuals who are more self-aware are more likely to accomplish their goals and dreams.
49 A person may enter a vast field where psychologists and those trained in psychology work. These areas include industrial psychology, school psychology, private practice, organizational behavioral fields, law enforcement and virtually every other field.
50 As stated, there are a number of career opportunities from which a psychology major may choose.
A.Self-awareness is a vital skill for any person to have.
B.It shows the individual what areas the person needs to strengthen.
C.As a result, psychology becomes an incredibly popular college major.
D.A psychology major examines the science of human behavior and mental processes.
E.All fields have the opportunity to benefit from the guidance that psychology can offer.
F.The third reason why psychology is a useful major is that it opens up a wide range of career opportunities.
G.However, all psychology majors will develop an increased awareness about human behavior and thought patterns.

【答案】1.F 2.A 3.B 4.E 5.G
1.前文“Do you want a room that’s full of life? Professional? Or are you just looking for a place to relax after a long day? (你想要一个充满活力的房间吗?专业的吗?或者你只是想在漫长的一天后找个地方放松一下)”以问题的方式呈现我们对房间的不同需求,因此F项“Whatever you’re looking for, color is the key to making a room feel the way you want it to feel. (无论你在寻找什么,颜色是让房间感觉像你想要的感觉的关键)”符合语境,指出颜色是关键,承接前文的不同需求,其中的looking for和前文的looking for是同词复现。故选F。
2.前文“Over the years, there have been a number of different techniques to help designers approach this important point. (多年来,已经出现了许多不同的技术来帮助设计师处理这一点)”说明有很多处理房间颜色的技术,因此A项“While all of them are useful, they can get a little complex. (虽然它们都很有用,但它们可能会变得有点复杂)”符合语境,指出这些技术会有点复杂,和前文形成转折,其中的they指代前文的a number of different techniques。故选A。
前文“But good news is that there’re really only three kinds of decisions you need to make about color in your home: the small ones, the medium ones, and the large ones. (但好消息是,关于家里的颜色,你只需要做出三种决定:小面积的、中等面积的和大面积的)”提到三种决定,下面三段内容分别围绕一个决定展开,后文“They’re the little spots of color like throw pillows, mirrors and baskets that most of us use to add visual interest to our rooms. (它们是小小的彩色点,例如抱枕、镜子和篮子,我们大多数人用它们来给房间增添视觉趣味)”解释了小面积的颜色的意思和作用,因此B项“Small color choices are the ones we’re most familiar with. (小面积颜色的选择是我们最熟悉的)”符合语境,引出小面积颜色的选择,承接前文,契合后文内容,其中的Small与前文的small是同词复现,同时与下面两段第一句中的“Medium color choices”和“The large color decisions”相呼应。故选B。
4.前文“Medium color choices are generally furniture pieces such as sofas, dinner tables or bookshelves. (中等面积颜色的选择通常是沙发、餐桌或书架等家具)”说明中等面积颜色的选择内容,后文“They require a bigger commitment than smaller ones, and they have a more powerful effect on the feeling of a space. (与小面积颜色相比,它们需要更大的投入,它们对空间的感觉有更强大的影响)”将中等面积颜色的选择和小面积的进行了具体比较,因此E项“Color choices in this range are a step up from the small ones in two major ways. (从两个主要方面来说,这个范围的颜色选择比小范围的颜色选择要更进一步)”符合语境,点明中等面积颜色的选择与小面积的在两个方面有差异,承接前文,引出后文具体的比较,其中的small ones与后文的smaller ones呼应。故选E。
5.前文“The large color decisions in your rooms concern the walls, ceilings, and floors. (你房间里大面积的颜色选择涉及墙壁、天花板和地板)”说明大面积颜色的选择内容,后文“So it pays to be sure, because you want to get it right the first time. (所以肯定是值得的,因为你想第一次就做对)”解释做某件事的价值,因此G项“Whether you’re looking at wallpaper or paint, the time, effort and relative expense put into it are important. (无论你是在看壁纸还是油漆,投入的时间、精力和相对的费用都是重要的)”符合语境,指出需要投入时间、精力和费用去挑壁纸、油漆,承接前文,引出后文的解释,其中的wallpaper or paint和前文的the walls, ceilings呼应。故选G。

【答案】6.E 7.A 8.F 9.G 10.D
6.由上文“Having goals can be very helpful since it can help give you something to work towards and place your energy into. (有目标是很有帮助的,因为它可以帮助你朝着目标努力,把你的精力投入其中。)”可知,下面要说跟“目标,期望”有关的话题,由后文“This is a harmful habit because you’re not focused on yourself and your enjoyment of life, but on achieving other people’s ideals. Remember, you don’t have to be perfect, you just need to be yourself. (这是一个有害的习惯,因为你不关注自己和生活的乐趣,而是关注实现别人的理想。记住,你不需要完美,你只需要做你自己。)”可知,本空表示定的目标太高,故E选项“However, you might create wild expectations which are too much for yourself. (然而,你可能会产生过高的期望。)”能承上启下,符合题意。故选E。
7.由上文“The idea about how you must never give up or that you must constantly hustle, even at the expense of your health can be very damaging to your wellbeing. Sometimes, things just don’t work out and you need to give up, but that’s not a bad thing. (你必须永不放弃,或者你必须不断地努力,即使牺牲你的健康,这种想法对你的幸福是非常有害的。有时候,事情就是不顺利,你需要放弃,但这并不是一件坏事。)”可知,下面要说跟“放弃”有关的话题,由后文“As much as there are people who have support themselves and others by working long hours, constantly hustling without taking any breaks for yourself to get your bearings may only lead to burnout. (尽管有些人通过长时间工作来养活自己和他人,但不断地忙碌而不让自己休息一下,这可能只会导致精疲力竭。)”可知,本句要表达不放弃的坏处,故A选项“It can be heartbreaking and tough, but it may be necessary. (这可能令人心碎和艰难,但这可能是必要的。)”能承上启下,符合题意。故选A。
8.由后文“Women are implored to get dangerous, unnecessary cosmetic surgery and men are told to be jacked and in the gym by any means for those gains, but our bodies are not trends that we should be ashamed of. (女性被怂恿去做危险的、不必要的整容手术,而男性则被告知为了获得这些好处要不择手段地去健身房锻炼,但我们的身体并不是我们应该感到羞耻的趋势。)”可知,本句要表达和“体型”有关的话题,故F选项“Instead of promoting healthy lifestyles, it advertises certain body types as desirable. (它没有提倡健康的生活方式,而是宣传某些体型是可取的。)”能引起下文,符合题意。故选F。
9.由上文“Like many others, you may decide to apply the self-improvement information once you finished reading all of it, but there are so many books about it and new ones keeps coming out. (和其他很多人一样,你可能会在读完所有的书后决定应用这些自我提升的信息,但是关于这方面的书太多了,而且新的书还在不断涌现。)”可知,下面要说跟“书中自我提升的信息”有关的话题,由后文“As powerful as knowledge is, applied knowledge is the best kind. Don’t be afraid to apply what you’ve learnt into the world. (知识固然强大,但应用知识是最好的知识。不要害怕把你学到的东西应用到这个世界上。)”可知,本句要表达书中自我提升的信息有用,但是要注重应用。故G选项“All of these how-to’s can be helpful, but they are useless if you don’t actually use them. (所有这些操作方法都是有用的,但如果你没有真正使用它们,它们就毫无用处。)”能承上启下,符合题意。G项中的“use”与空后的“applied”相对应。故选G。
10.由上文“However, this can become an issue when you only put it out there and dream about it with nothing in between to bridge the gap. (然而,当你只是把它放在那里,梦想着它,没有任何中间的桥梁时,这就会成为一个问题。)”可知,下面要说跟“梦想”有关的话题。故D选项“If it lacks the structure and action, all you dreamt about is only a dream. (如果它缺乏结构和动作,那么你所梦想的只是一场梦。)”能承接上文,符合题意。D项中的“dreamt”与空前的“dream”相对应。故选D。
(22-23高二上·北京·期中)Failure is probably the most exhausting experience a person ever has.
【答案】11.C 12.E 13.A 14.D 15.G
11.根据上文“There is nothing more tiring than not succeeding.(没有什么比不成功更累的了)”和下文“In the former case, we keep putting off a task because it was either too boring or too difficult.(在前一种情况下,我们总是推迟一项任务,因为它要么太无聊,要么太难)”可知,空格处应总的指出疲惫感分为两种情况,引出下文。选项C“We experience this tiredness in two ways: start-up fatigue and performance fatigue.(我们以两种方式体验这种疲劳:启动疲劳和执行疲劳)”指出了两种疲劳,符合语境。故选C项。
12.根据下文“And I always started the day’s work with the difficult task of essay-writing. The experience proved that the rule works.(我每天的工作都是从写作这项艰巨的任务开始的。经验证明这条规则是有效的)”推知,前文应该指出了作者所说的规则是什么。选项E“The solution is obvious though-perhaps not easy to apply: always handle the most difficult job first.(解决方案很明显,但可能不容易应用:总是先处理最困难的工作)”恰好提出了一个规则,即先处理最困难的事,符合语境。故选E项。
13.下文“Though willing to get started, we cannot seem to do the job right.(尽管我们愿意开始工作,但我们似乎不能把工作做好)”指出我们愿意开始工作,即没有启动疲劳,可知本段开始讨论第二种疲劳:执行疲劳。选项A“Performance fatigue is more difficult to handle.(执行疲劳更难处理)”符合语境。故选A项。
D“Nothing like this had ever been done before, and day after day I kept coming up with solutions.(以前从来没有这样做过,我日复一日地不断提出解决方案)”表明作者反复提出了许多解决措施,符合语境。故选D项。
15.根据上文“An hour later, I woke up suddenly with the solution clearly in mind.(一个小时后,我突然醒来,脑海中清晰地浮现出解决方案)”和下文“Though I worked as hard as before, I felt no fatigue. Success was now as exciting as failure had been depressing.(虽然我和以前一样努力工作,但我并不感到疲劳)”推知,作者的方案是凑效的,因此他才没有觉得累。选项G“In the weeks that followed, the solution which had come up in my unconscious mind proved correct at every step.(在接下来的几周里,我潜意识中想到的解决方案在每一步都被证明是正确的)”符合语境。故选G项。

20.空格下文“Maybe it is time to make the hard decision to move on to another job or career.(也许是时候做出艰难的决定,换一份工作或另一份职业了)”说的是也许你该换工作了,空格处也应该说有关工作的内容,D项“Are you constantly complaining about your present job?(你是否经常抱怨现在的工作?)”
【答案】21.G 22.A 23.B 24.D 25.F
21.根据前文“And this is why emotional intelligence(EQ)succeeds where other efforts at family harmony fail. (这就是为什么情商(EQ)能成功,而其他家庭和谐的努力却失败了。)”可知,此处强调的是情商能够有助于家庭和谐。后文应该对此进行解释。G选项“Active awareness and empathy tell us how to respond to one another’s needs.(积极的意识和同理心告诉我们如何回应彼此的需求。)”
22.根据前文“Look to yourself first. (先看看你自己)”可知,此处强调的是从自己着手,不要把今天自己的样子归咎于原生家庭。A选项“Your best hope for fixing any family problem is to attend your own emotional health.(解决家庭问题的最大希望是关注自己的情绪健康。)” 故选A。
23.根据本段段旨“Recognize that being close doesn’t mean being clones.(认识到亲密并不意味着克隆人。)”以及“You can’t be expected to have the same talents as your siblings, even though you may look a lot alike. (即使你和你的兄弟姐妹长得很像,你也不能指望拥有和他们一样的才能。)”可知,虽然与兄弟姐妹有着亲密的关系,但不意味着你们是一样的。B选项“You won’t necessarily choose to follow in parent’s footsteps.( 你并不一定会选择追随父母的脚步。)”
24.根据后文“ Accept the natural fear that your parents’ aging evokes but use your emotional awareness and empathy to figure out how you can cherish this moment for its unique qualities.(接受父母变老带来的自然恐惧,但运用你的情感意识和同理心,想想如何珍惜这一刻,因为它的独特品质。)” D选项“The best to accept that fact emotionally, is to embrace change.(从情感上接受这个事实的最好方式,就是拥抱改变。)”
25.根据下文“Fully accepting your fear of change can make it easier to ask questions that you may have considered awkward in the past.(充分接受自己对变化的恐惧可能会让你更容易提出过去可能认为尴尬的问题。)” F选项“If you’re not sure what will work, ask.(如果你不确定什么会起作用,那就去问。)”
26.根据下文“Such small tornadoes occur in many places around the world, even in southern Taiwan, where several are usually reported every spring.(这种小型龙卷风在世界上许多地方都有发生,甚至在台湾南部,每年春天都会有几个龙卷风)”可知,此处应该提到了一些小型龙卷风。 C. Many more are small storms that form quickly and disappear, causing little or no damage.(更多的是迅速形成并消失的小风暴,造成很少或没有损害)能够衔接下文,符合语境。故选C。
27.根据上文“It is, however, the big tornadoes that receive the most attention.(然而,最受关注的是大型龙卷风)”及下文“There can be flocks of dead birds dropping out of the sky, chickens still alive but with all of their feathers gone, pieces of straw stuck in trees.(可能会有成群的死鸟从天上掉下来,鸡还活着,但羽毛都掉光了,稻草片卡在树上)”和常识可知,大型龙卷风会造成死亡和破坏,从而备受关注,还会造成一些奇怪的现象。 B. These bring not only death and destruction, but also stories of strange phenomena.(这些不仅带来了死亡和破坏,还带来了奇怪现象的故事)能够承上启下,符合语境,下文“成群的死鸟从天上掉下来,鸡还活着,但羽毛都掉光了,稻草片卡在树上”就是一些奇怪的现象。故选B。
28.根据下文“Although scientists now know a great deal about tornadoes, they still cannot determine exactly when and where one will form. In addition, the path of a tornado can also be impossible to predict.(尽管科学家们现在对龙卷风了解很多,但他们仍然不能确定龙卷风形成的确切时间和地点。此外,龙卷风的路径也可能无法预测)”可知,人们仍然不能确定龙卷风形成的确切时间和地点,龙卷风的路径也可能无法预测,所以龙卷风的到来是出人意料的。由此可知,F. What makes tornadoes so dangerous is not just their great power but also their unpredictable nature.(龙卷风之所以如此危险,不仅是因为它的威力巨大,还因为它的不可预测性)能够衔接下文,符合语境。故选F。
29.根据上文“To better understand tornadoes, scientists have developed special heavy-duty vehicles and weather-monitoring equipment that allow them to make close-up observations of these dangerous storms. Scientists often have to drive the radar hundreds of miles to chase down a tornado — a job that can be quite dangerous!(科学家们经常不得不驾驶雷达数百英里去追踪龙卷风——这是一项相当危险的工作!)能够衔接上文,符合语境。故选G。
30.根据上文“In addition, better communication and warning systems are also helping to reduce deaths and injuries in many tornado-prone areas. Radio and television warnings as well as sirens help to alert people to potential danger. Public awareness is also important. When tornadoes do occur, people must act quickly. They should move immediately to a safe place such as a basement or under a strong stairway and cover themselves with blankets or heavy coats.(此外,更好的通信和预警系统也有助于减少许多龙卷风易发地区的伤亡。广播和电视警报以及警笛有助于提醒人们注意潜在的危险。公众意识也很重要。当龙卷风发生时,人们必须迅速采取行动。他们应该立即转移到安全的地方,如地下室或坚固的楼梯下,并用毯子或厚外套盖住自己)”可知,上文讲到了对龙卷风预防和防范;由此推知,此处是对上文采取措施的原因陈述,也是对全文的总结。由此可知,A tornado can arrive so unexpectedly that a matter of seconds can mean the difference between life and death.(龙卷风的到来非常出人意料,几秒钟的时间就意味着生与死的差别)能够衔接上文,符合语境。故选D。
【答案】31.C 32.G 33.A 34.E 35.F
32.下文“The right song can make you smile and feel like getting up and dancing.(合适的歌曲可以让你微笑,感觉像起床跳舞)”说明,对的歌曲会使你好起来。与选项G. Music can be just what you need when you’re feeling down.(音乐是当你心情低落时你需要的)相一致。故选G。
33.上文“It may be because people's bodies have natural rhythms, such as a heartbeat and pulse.(可能是因为人的身体有自然的节律,比如心跳和脉搏)”说明,这或许是因为人们有天生的旋律感,与选项A. Why does music have these powers?(为什么音乐有这种力量?)相一致,且A选项中“these powers”指代上文“music may help make your brain work better (音乐可能有助于让你的大脑更好地工作)”。故选A。
34.上文“If you want to relax, try listening to nature sounds.(如果你想放松,试着听听大自然的声音)”说明,如果你想放松,尝试听自然的声音。与选项E. Or look for music with a single instrument you like.(或用一个你喜欢的乐器来寻找音乐)相一致,且E选项中“a single instrument”和下文“Maybe just hearing a single voice soothes you(也许只听到一个声音就能抚慰你)”相一致。故选E。
35.下文“For example, if you're reading a beautiful poem, playing light music may help you understand it better.(例如,如果你正在阅读一首优美的诗歌,播放轻音乐可能会帮助您更好地理解它)”说明,不同的音乐有不同的作用。与选项F. So try to match the type of music to the type of learning.(所以尽力把音乐和学习的类型结合起来)相一致。
【答案】36.A 37.E 38.G 39.D 40.F

C.As a result, psychology becomes an incredibly popular college major.
