B Growing up in Kenya, Lesein Mutunkei, together with his family, always celebrated significant occasions by planting trees, which motivated him to protect the environment. It’s what the now 18-year-old soccer player treasures, especially since Kenya has an ongoing problem with deforestation. Mutunkei follows in the footsteps of the late Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai who founded the Green Belt Movement in 1977. This initiative has resulted in the planting of over 51 million trees to date. In 2018, Lesein decided to start a movement of his own. He started by planting one tree for every goal he scored during a football match. He called it Trees4Goals, and it has grown so much that he now plants 11 trees, one for each member of his team, every time he scores. Through this, he wants to inspire young people, specifically his fellow athletes, to follow in his footsteps, take nature conservation seriously, and promise to plant trees every time they score. As a result, some of them have adapted this practice for their sports. “Seeing that they’re taking that responsibility because of the project I started, for me, that is the biggest achievement,” he said. The initiative has caught the attention of English football club Arsenal and Kenya’s Ministry of Environment and Forestry, which he now works with regularly and gets advice from. Like Green Belt Movement, Trees4Goals, which has planted 5,500 trees so far, has made it. While Lesein has received some recognition for his initiative, he sets his sights on making it a worldwide phenomenon. “Football is a universal game, and climate change is a universal problem,” he explains. “It has the power to unite, educate and inspire my generation to create a safer and greener future.” This is why he wants to work with the world’s biggest football federation FIFA. As for what others can do to fight deforestation or other environmental concerns, the teenager says it’s important to just get involved in some way, no matter how small. 24. What made Lesein get interested in environmental protection? A. The influence of his family. B. Wangari Maathai’s huge assistances. C. The demand of the football team. D. His fellow athletes’ encouragement. 25. Why did Lesein found Trees4Goals? A. To gain Kenya’s support. B. To set an example for others. C. To catch Arsenal’s attention. D. To show his achievements. 26. What is Lesein’s hope for the future of Trees4Goals? A. Promoting football’s development. B. Going global with the help of FIFA. C. Beating climate change completely. D. Getting beyond Green Belt Movement. 27. What can we learn from Lesein’s story? A. Fame is a great thirst of the young. B. A youth is to be regarded with respect. C. Positive thinking and action result in success. D. Success means getting personal desires satisfied. C Digging out potato tubers (茎块) is one of the greatest rewards gardens have to offer. Children in particular are surprised at seeing these tubers that almost magically become chips, mash (泥) or baked potatoes. Happily, potatoes are very easy to grow. Seed tubers are placed in good garden soil, ideally with some compost (堆肥) for every square meter, in a sunny spot, about 10cm deep at 30cm intervals in rows 60-70cm apart. Seed tubers are offered as earliest and second earliest and maincrop. The second earliest and maincrops can be stored for winter use but earliest are usually consumed in summer. Seasoned potato growers buy early seed potatoes in February and place them in a cool, reasonably light place and let them sprout (发芽). It takes six weeks for small sprouts to form. Early potatoes are typically planted from middle March in the South, but are likely to emerge before the first season finishes in May. The shoots are frost-sensitive requiring protection on cod nights with either earth or newspapers. Second early and maincrop potatoes are planted in middle April—the frost risk will be low, but not absent, by the time they emerge. As the stems (茎) grow, soil should be drawn around them until the leaves meet in the row in early summer. At this stage, the potato field is a series of ridges (脊,垄). The tubers form in the ridge, protected from light that turns them green. Covering with black plastic or a thick layer of compost is also accessible instead of ridging, but plastic is not sustainable and slugs (鼻涕虫) can multiply in compost. Once the flowers are fully open, it is time to dig plants when the tubers are the size of a hen’s egg. They grow rapidly but gradually lose their juicy new potato flavour, so harvest freely. 28 What’s the writing purpose of paragraph 1? A. To describe a magic process. B. To recall a childhood memory. C. To raise a potato-related topic. D. To introduce a gardening award. 29. What can we learn about seed tubers? A. The closer the intervals are, the faster they will grow. B. The warmer the weather is, the better they will grow. C. The earlier they are planted the healthier they will grow. D. The deeper they are planted, the stronger they will grow. 30. What helps potatoes grow in the long term? A. Frost. B. Plastic. C. Ridges. D. Slugs. 31. What’s the text mainly about? A. How to cook potatoes. B. How to grow potatoes. C. How to harvest potatoes. D. How to preserve potatoes. D Social media can lead to mental exhaustion (疲惫). And when mentally exhausted, you are more likely to be influenced by a high number of likes on posts — even to the point of clicking on ads for products you don't need or want. As a professor of advertising, I have studied social media behaviors for years. In late 2022, my colleague Eric Haley and I conducted three online studies on Americans aged 18 — 65 to test how people under various mental loads respond to ads differently. The control group in each study were given no introductory task — we just had them look at an ad. A second group had to memorize a nine-digit number and then look at the ad. The third group looked through the Internet for 30 seconds and then looked at the ad. Participants randomly saw an ad with a few hundred likes or tens of thousands of likes. After viewing the ad, each participant rated how willing they would be to buy the product, and how much mental effort it took to think about the information. The group that used the Internet first were the most likely to want to buy the featured product when there were lots of likes or comments, and they also reported using the most mental effort to assess the ad. Researchers refer to this mentally exhausted state as “cognitive (认知的) overload”. Using social media puts them in this state because they are constantly evaluating different types of texts, photos and video posts from so many different people. In the span of several seconds, they can see a text from their husband or wife, a photo from a co-worker, a video from a celebrity and an emoji from their brother. All of this evaluating leaves them feeling frazzled. Imagine asking your roommate if they want to go get pizza. Under normal conditions, the roommate might consider several factors such as cost, hunger, timing or their schedule. Now imagine asking your roommate the same question while they are on the phone with a sick relative. They no longer have the mental energy to logically consider whether pizza for dinner is a good idea. By understanding how social media influences them, consumers can be more thoughtful in regulating their use—and hopefully not buy yet another water bottle they don’t need. 32. Why did the author conduct three online studies on Americans aged 18-65? A. To investigate their online habits. B. To test their reactions to advertisements. C. To research what kind of advertising is effective. D. To discover why people suffer great mental stress. 33. What docs paragraph 3 mainly tell us about the study? A. Its purpose. B. Its process. C. Its finding. D. Its significance. 34. What does the underlined word “frazzled” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Interested. B. Depressed. C. Annoyed. D. Tired. 35. Why does the author mention “your roommate” in paragraph 5? A. To further explain cognitive overload. B. To stress the importance of. relationships. C. To strongly call on people to eat healthily. D To remind people not to rely on mobile phones. How long does it take to become an elite (精英) in your field? ___36___ That’s what John Hayes, a cognitive psychology professor at Carnegie Mellon University, wanted to know. For decades, Hayes has been investigating the role of effort, practice and knowledge in top performers. ___37___ The research focused on people like Mozart and Picasso-to determine how long it took them to become world-class at their craft. Let’s talk about what Hayes has discovered about world-class-performers. And more importantly, let’s discuss how you can use these insights to achieve your goals and become your best. ___38___ He analyzed thousands of musical pieces produced from 1685 to 1900. The central question that drove his work was “How long after one becomes interested in music is it that one becomes world-class?” Eventually, Hayes developed a list of 500 pieces of “masterworks” in the field, which were created by a total of 76 composers. Hayes mapped out the timeline of each composers career. ___39___ What he discovered was that virtually every single “masterwork” was written after the tenth year of the composer’s career. Not a single person produced incredible work without putting in a decade of practice first. Even a genius like Mozart had to work for at least ten years before he produced something that became popular. ___40___ In follow-up studies, Hayes found similar patterns among famous painters and popular poets. These findings have been further confirmed by research from professors like K. Anders Ericsson, who produced research that revealed that you needed to put in “10, 000 hours” to become an elite or expert in your field. A. It takes time to achieve your goals. B And what do people like doing in their spare time? C. He has studied the most talented creators in history. D. Hayes started his research by examining successful composers E. Professor Hayes began to refer to this period as the “ten years of silence”. F. And what do the successful people do differently than the rest of us? G. Icicles (冰锥) hung three feet or more from the roofs of houses and snow swallowed up cars. The puppy had been abandoned, and it made its way down the road toward the Laceys’ small house, with its ears down and trembling from shyness and cold. Doris, whose school had been called off because of the snow, was clearing the steps when she spotted the puppy on the road. “Come on, little dog!” she called it over. The puppy shyly wagged its tail when Doris approached. As soon as Doris put the dog down in the kitchen, her mom, Mrs. Lacey, asked where the dog came from. Mr. Lacey, who was cleaning his fingernails with his pocketknife at the table, said, “I don’t know where it came from, but I know for sure where it’s going.” Doris hugged the puppy hard against her. She said nothing. Because of the snowy weather, Mr. Lacey couldn’t take the puppy to the shelter right away. So, it stayed in the basement, and Doris fed it leftovers, even though her mom didn’t want to waste food. Doris thought the puppy was around six months old and would be quite noisy sometimes. Surprisingly, the puppy behaved well, didn’t cry or make trouble in the basement, and only followed Doris upstairs when she invited it. Doris often found it on the basement steps listening to the kitchen talk and smelling the food. She felt the puppy wanted company. Even after a week, Doris didn’t name the dog, knowing her parents wouldn’t let her keep it. Her father made so little money that any pets were out of the question. Desperate to keep the dog, Doris tried to convince her parents by praising the dog’s good behavior and expressing her love for it, but her parents didn’t give a definite answer. Despite her efforts, Doris secretly wished the bad weather would never go away, fearing the puppy’s unavoidable trip to the shelter. However, nine days after the dog had arrived, the sun was shining. Doris knew it was time to say goodbye to the dog and felt rather worried. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Doris put her hand to her mouth and couldn’t believe what she had heard. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 英语试题 考试时间:120 分钟 满分:150 分 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分 30 分) 第一节(共 5 小题;每小题 1.5 分,满分 7.5 分) 听下面 5 段对话。 What will the speakers do next? Well, we’re off to a good start in the south this week, as most of the rain from the weekend has disappeared. It will clear up by lunchtime, though. Over the next day or so, London and the area around Kent can expect a couple of showers, but mostly dry through until Thursday. It’s not such good news for the northwest this week. I’m afraid; more wet weather, and not much sunshine. Some of today’s showers will be heavy and even thundery in Manchester and across the Pennines. Leeds will escape the thunderstorms, with light rain only throughout the rest of the day and tonight. Elsewhere it becomes dry today, but with some foggy patches towards Wales. In England , tomorrow morning will see a dry, bright start in most places. We might see one or two thunderstorms appearing as the week goes on, with temperatures everywhere at 29 to 30 degrees. By the weekend, unfortunately, the dry weather will make way for mostly cloudy skies and rain. The rain will move from Scotland, down towards the north and reach the south coast by Saturday afternoon. Temperatures, at least, will stay mostly warm at around 21 degrees for the weekend. It might feel like a nice change from the high 20s and early 30s we’ ll see in the week. That’s all from me until tomorrow . A Volunteer by supporting a local animal rescue center in Costa Rica! A Promoting football’s development. A 25. B 26. B 27. 故选A。 根据文章第三段“Through this, he wants to inspire young people, specifically his fellow athletes, to follow in his footsteps, take nature conservation seriously, and promise to plant trees every time they score. 根据文章倒数第二段“While Lesein has received some recognition for his initiative, he sets his sights on making it a worldwide phenomenon.(虽然莱辛的倡议得到了一些认可,但他的目标是让它成为一种全球现象)”及“This is why he wants to work with the world’s biggest football federation FIFA.(这就是为什么他想与世界上最大的足球联盟国际足联合作)”可知,在FIFA的帮助下,Lesein 希望“一球一树运动”走向全球。 根据文章第二段“Mutunkei follows in the footsteps of the late Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai who founded the Green Belt Movement in 1977. This initiative has resulted in the planting of over 51 million trees to date.(Mutunkei追随了已故的肯尼亚诺贝尔和平奖得主旺加里·马塔伊的脚步,后者于1977年创立了绿带运动。 C Digging out potato tubers (茎块) is one of the greatest rewards gardens have to offer. 28. What’s the writing purpose of paragraph 1? A. To describe a magic process. B. To recall a childhood memory. C. To raise a potato-related topic. D. To introduce a gardening award. 29. What can we learn about seed tubers? A. The closer the intervals are, the faster they will grow. B. The warmer the weather is, the better they will grow. C. The earlier they are planted, the healthier they will grow. C 29. B 30. C 31. 根据首段“Digging out potato tubers (茎块) is one of the greatest rewards gardens have to offer. Children in particular are surprised at seeing these tubers that almost magically become chips, mash (泥) or baked potatoes. 根据第二段中的“Seed tubers are placed in good garden soil, ideally with some compost (堆肥) for every square meter, in a sunny spot, about 10cm deep at 30cm intervals in rows 60-70cm apart. 根据倒数第二段中的“As the stems (茎) grow, soil should be drawn around them until the leaves meet in the row in early summer. At this stage, the potato field is a series of ridges (脊,垄). The tubers form in the ridge, protected from light that turns them green. 可知,随着茎的不断生长,用土壤将其覆盖形成一系列的垄,块茎在山脊上形成,根据下文“Covering with black plastic or a thick layer of compost is also accessible instead of ridging, but plastic is not sustainable and slugs (鼻涕虫) can multiply in compost. 根据首段“Digging out potato tubers (茎块) is one of the greatest rewards gardens have to offer. Children in particular are surprised at seeing these tubers that almost magically become chips, mash (泥) or baked potatoes. 引出本文讲述的话题与土豆有关,第二段的“Happily, potatoes are very easy to grow. D. To remind people not to rely on mobile phones. B 33. B 34. D 35. 根据第二段“In late 2022, my colleague Eric Haley and I conducted three online studies on Americans aged 18—65 to test how people under various mental loads respond to ads differently. 通读第三段“The control group in each study were given no introductory task—we just had them look at an ad. 根据画线词前“Researchers refer to this mentally exhausted state as “cognitive (认知的) overload”. Using social media puts them in this state because they are constantly evaluating different types of texts, photos and video posts from so many different people. In the span of several seconds, they can see a text from their husband or wife, a photo from a co-worker, a video from a celebrity and an emoji from their brother. A. 根据第五段“Imagine asking your roommate if they want to go get pizza. Under normal conditions, the roommate might consider several factors such as cost, hunger, timing or their schedule. Now imagine asking your roommate the same question while they are on the phone with a sick relative. They no longer have the mental energy to logically consider whether pizza for dinner is a good idea. 故选A。 How long does it take to become an elite (精英) in your field? The central question that drove his work was, “How long after one becomes interested in music is it that one becomes world-class?” Eventually, Hayes developed a list of 500 pieces of “masterworks” in the field, which were created by a total of 76 composers. B. And what do people like doing in their spare time? C. He has studied the most talented creators in history. D. Hayes started his research by examining successful composers E. Professor Hayes began to refer to this period as the “ten years of silence”. F. And what do the successful people do differently than the rest of us? G. And then he calculated how long they had been working before they created their popular works. F 37. C 38. D 39. G 40. 以及下文“That’s what John Hayes, a cognitive psychology professor at Carnegie Mellon University, wanted to know.(这正是卡内基梅隆大学认知心理学教授John Hayes想要知道的)”说明John Hayes想要知道需要多久能成为所在领域的精英。 【37题详解】 上文“For decades, Hayes has been investigating the role of effort, practice and knowledge in top performers.(几十年来,海斯一直在研究努力、实践和知识在优秀员工中的作用)”说明Hayes教授多年研究顶尖表现者所付出的努力、练习和知识的作用。 Hayes,“the most talented creators ”和下文中的“people like Mozart and Picasso”相呼应,所以C项“他研究了历史上最有才华的创作者。” 【38题详解】 下文“He analyzed thousands of musical pieces produced from 1685 to 1900. The central question that drove his work was, “How long after one becomes interested in music is it that one becomes world-class?”(他分析了1685年至1900年间创作的数千首乐曲。 所以D项“海斯的研究始于考察成功的作曲家”符合语境,适合引出本段,该项中的“by examining successful composers”和下文中的“He analyzed thousands of musical pieces”相呼应。故选D。 【39题详解】 上文“Hayes mapped out the timeline of each composers career. 【40题详解】 上文“Not a single person produced incredible work without putting in a decade of practice first. Even a genius like Mozart had to work for at least ten years before he produced something that became popular.(没有一个人在不先投入十年实践的情况下创作出令人难以置信的作品。 E项中的“this period”指代前文中的“work for at least ten years before he produced something that became popular”,所以E项“海斯教授开始将这段时期称为“沉默的十年”。” Glen Edwards became a hero when he rescued a construction worker trapped on top of a 160-meter-high building. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Doris knew it was time to say goodbye to the dog and felt rather worried. She was sitting alone in the living room, hugging a pillow and rocking back and forth on the edge of a chair. She was trying not to cry but she was not strong enough. Her face was wet and red, her eyes full of sadness. Just as Doris was at her lowest, her parents appeared from the doorway. With a smile on Mrs. Lacey’s face, she said, “Honey, Papa and I have agreed to keep the puppy as a part of our family.” Doris put her hand to her mouth and couldn’t believe what she had heard. She looked at her parents surprisedly. “Doris, you were right. He has brought so much happiness to us,” Mr. Lacey continued, “and I drove by the local animal shelter yesterday. The conditions there are quite poor. We can’t leave him there.” Doris smiled with tears of happiness in her eyes and threw her arms around her parents. She knew they not only embraced the puppy into their family but also gave him a chance at a much happier life. 词汇激活 行为类 ①拥抱:hug/cuddle ②哭泣:cry/weep/shed tears ③出现:appear/show up ④笑:smile/beam/grin ⑤给予:give/offer 情绪类 ①悲伤:sadness/sorrow/unhappiness ②惊讶地:surprisedly/astonishedly ③开心:happiness/joy/delight 【点睛】[高分句型1] Just as Doris was at her lowest, her parents appeared from the doorway.
