阅读下面四篇语言材料,然后按文后要求做题。
A
Zipper
was
founded
more
than
100
years
ago. It
is
known
as
one
of
the
greatest
inventions
of
the
20th
century. It
is
widely
used
now. Do
you
know
who
invented
it?
In
1851,Elias
Howe,the
inventor
of
sewing
machine,re-
ceived
a
patent(专利权) for
a
device(装置) . It
had
a
similar
function
to
the
modern
zipper. It
is
the
first
semblance(类似
品)of
zipper. But
he
did
not
continue
developing
his
model.
In
the
1890,people
in
the
US
wore
high
shoes
with
a
long
row
of
buttons. Clothes
often
had
rows
of
buttons,too.
People
wished
that
clothes
were
easier
to
put
on
and
take
off. In
1893,Whitcomb
Judson
developed
a
device
called
the
“Clasp
Locker” . Unlike
Howe,he
decided
to
market
his
in-
vention. However,his
product
did
not
catch
the
public’s
at-
tention
because
it
didn’ t
stay
closed
very
well.
All
was
not
lost. One
of
Judson’ s
engineers,a
Swedish
gentleman
named
Gideon
Sundback,began
working
on
dif-
ferent
designs
for
the
clasp
locker. At
last
he
created
the
first
modern
zipper
in
1917. The
name“zipper”was
given
to
·35·
the
invention
by
B. F. Goodrich
Company
when
they
decided
to
use
Sundback’ s
product
for
their
shoes. But
the
zipper
became
really
popular
when
French
designers
used
them
in
1937
in
their
jeans.

was
the
modern
zipper
created?
A. In
1851. B. In
1890.

1893. D. In
1917.
( )22. 【词义猜测】What
does
the
underlined
word“mod-
el”refer
to?
A. The
clasp
locker.
B. The
modern
zipper.
C. The
sewing
machine.
D. The
semblance
of
zipper.
( )23. Why
did
not“Clasp
Locker”catch
the
public’s
at-
tention?
A. Because
people
didn’ t
need
it.
B. Because
people
didn’ t
like
the
name.
C. Because
it
didn’ t
stay
closed
very
well.
D. Because
it
had
a

the
invention?
A. Elias
Howe.

Sundback.
D. B. F. Goodrich

( )25. 【最佳标题】What
is
the
best
title
for
the
passage?
A. The
History
of
Zipper
B. Different
Names
of
Zipper
C. The
Great
Inventors
of
Zipper
D. Different
Zippers
B
Long, long
ago, people
made
fires
from
lightning ( 闪
电) . But
they
had
to
keep
the
fire
burning,for
they
couldn’ t
start
it
again
if
there
was
no
lightning. Later,they
found
out
hitting
two
pieces
of
stone
together
could
make
a
spark(火
花) . The
spark
could
fire
dry
leaves. In
this
way
they
could
make
the
fire
again
if
it
went
out. Then
people
also
learned
to
make
a
fire
by
rubbing(摩擦) . They
made
a
hole
in
a
piece
of
wood
and
put
a
smaller
stick
into
the
hole. They
turned
the
stick
again
and
again. After
a
few
minutes
they
got
a
fire.
Years
went
by,people
learned
other
ways
to
make
a
fire. Sometimes
they
used
the
heat
from
the
sun. They
held
a
piece
of
glass
in
the
right
way
and
made
a
piece
of
paper
on
fire.
About
two
centuries
ago,people
began
to
make
mat-
ches. Matches
brought
people
a
quick
and
easy
way
to
make
fires. Today
matches
are
still
being
used,but
people
have
more
new
ways
to
make
fires. One
of
them
is
to
use
an
elec-
tric
fire
starter. Of
course
an
electric
fire
starter
is
much
more
expensive
than
a
box
of
matches. But
it
is
very
useful.

Imagine
the
situation. You
are
driving
along
a
desert
or
on
a
mountain. You
have
no
idea
where
you
are. You
passed
the
last
house
two
hours
ago. Then
your
car
breaks
down. It
is
night
and
it
is
cold. You
have
no
mobile
phone. What
do
you
do? Well,next
time
take
a
GPS
with
you. This
invention
may
be
able
to
help
you. It
is
a
device
which
uses
satellites
(卫星) to
find
the
user’ s
position(位置) . It
can
find
your
position
to
within
20
metres. A
GPS
cannot
start
your
car,
but
at
least
you
will
know
where
you
are.
GPS,which
means
Global
Positioning
System,is
a
small
radio
receiver. It
looks
like
a
mobile
phone. You
can
hold
it
in
your
hand,or
put
in
your
pocket. It
is
sometimes
put
into
a
watch
or
a
telephone. We
also
find
GPS
devices
in
cars,
·45·
planes, or
boats. Some
of
these
devices
have
electronic
maps,so
you
know
where
you
are. For
example, in
a
city
they
can
tell
you
the
name
of
the
street.
There
are
three
parts
to
the
Global
Positioning
System.
The
first
part
is
the
receiver. You
can
hold
it
in
your
hand,or
have
it
fixed
into
your
car,plane,etc. The
second
part
is
a
group
of
satellites
orbiting
the
Earth. The
receiver
contacts
at
least
four
of
the
satellites
and
calculates(计算) its
posi-
tion. The
third
part
of
the
system
is
a
network
of
ground
sta-
tions. They
are
all
over
the
world. They
control
the
satellites
and
make
sure
they
are
working
well.
Some
people
think
that
in
the
future
the
GPS
will
be
as
common
as
the
mobile. They
are
becoming
cheaper
and
more
and
more
accurate(精确的) . There
are
also
new
uses
for
the
GPS. Perhaps
they
will
become
like
watches. Every-
one
will
have
one
and
you
will
never
be
lost
again.

Chinese
people
usually
use
chopsticks
to
eat. We
use
them
widely
because
the
chopsticks
are
useful
and
cheap. Scientists
say
that
using
chopsticks
is
good
for
us. As
far
as
we
know,usually
they
are
made
of
bamboo. And
some
are
made
of
plastic
or
silver.
But
for
our
health, we
should
avoid
buying
plastic
chopsticks. Now
many
foreigners
start
to
learn
to
use
chopsticks. They
are
attracted
by
delicious
Chinese
food
and
colorful
Chinese
culture. They
want
to
know
more
about
China. And
we

want
more

there. There

It’ s
sometimes
reported
that
strange
objects
have

seen
high
up
in
the
sky. A
lot
of
people
are
interested
in
these
UFOs. Some
of
the
reports
about
them
are
difficult
to
believe, some
have
been
ex-
plained
in
scientific
ways,and
others
have
never
been
explained. One
report
of
UFOs
came
from
a
British
plane
on
its
way
from
New
York
to
London
in
1954.
The
British
plane
was
flying
over
an
island
at
19,000
feet
when
the
captain
noticed
that
something
was
on
its
left
and
a
little
lower
than
the
plane. It’ s
about
five
miles
away. The
captain
said
there
was
one
large
and
six
smaller
objects. Before
the
plane
arrived,the
smaller
objects
entered
the
big
object. The
big
object
then
became
smaller
and
moved
away
fast.

you

that
scientists
have
discovered
water
on
Mars?
M:Really? That’ s
very
amazing. Have
they
tried
to
find
life
on
Mars?
W:Well, they’ re
looking
for
life
but
they
haven’ t
found
anything
yet.
M:They’ve
already
found
that
there’s
no
life
on
the

W:Yes, that’ s
right. So
far
there’ s
only
life
on
the
earth.
第三节
Scientists

The
