高三英语培优外刊阅读 班级:____________学号:____________姓名:____________ 外刊精选|演唱会门票越来越贵,乐迷的钱到底进了谁的腰包? Who Is Making Money on Your Concert Tickets? It's Not Just Taylor Swift By Anne Steele and Kara Dapena The Justice Department's suit against Live Nation Entertainment landed in the middle of a live-events boom. The federal government alleged Thursday that Live Nation has a monopoly in the markets and uses that power to drive prices higher for consumers. The company uses its "flywheel" of businesses across concert sponsorship, promotion and ticketing to control the economics of live events and hinder competition, the DOJ alleged. "The DOJ's lawsuit won't solve the issues fans care about relating to ticket prices, service fees, and access to in-demand shows," Live Nation said in a statement Thursday. The company argued that its ticketing service, Ticketmaster, doesn't set prices; artists and their teams do. It said most of fees go to venues. Live Nation works in each corner of the live-events business and is able to benefit from your event spending, from tickets to food, merchandise and parking. Few companies have benefited more from concerts' heyday than Live Nation, which is the world's largest concert promoter and owns hundreds of venues as well as the dominant ticketing platform, Ticketmaster. The government argues that the company has a "self-reinforcing business model" that captures fees and sponsorship revenue, which it deploys to lock up artists to exclusive promotion deals. It then uses its powerful cache of live content to sign venues into long-term exclusive ticketing deals, "thereby starting the cycle all over again." 【词汇过关】 请写出下面文单词在文章中的中文意思。 1.land英 [lænd] 美 [lænd]v. ________________________________________ 2.live英 [laɪv] 美 [laɪv]adj.________________________________________ 3.boom英 [buːm] 美 [buːm]n. ________________________________________ 4.allege英 [əˈledʒ] 美 [əˈledʒ]v. ________________________________________ 5.flywheel英 [ˈflaɪwiːl] 美 [ˈflaɪwiːl]________________________________________ 6.economics英 [ˌiːkəˈnɒmɪks] 美 [ˌiːkəˈnɑːmɪks]n. ____________________ 7.hinder英 [ˈhɪndə] 美 [ˈhɪndər]v.________________________________________ 8.in-demand英 [in diˈmɑ:nd] 美 [ɪn dɪˈmænd]____________________________ 9.venue英 [ˈvenjuː] 美 [ˈvenjuː]n. ________________________________________ 10.merchandise英 [ˈmɜːtʃndaɪz] 美 [ˈmɜrːtʃndaɪz]n. ______________ 11.heyday英 [ˈheɪdeɪ] 美 [ˈheɪdeɪ]n.________________________________________ 12.self-reinforcing英 [ˌselfriːɪnˈfɔːsɪŋ] 美 [ˌselfriːɪnˈfɔːrsɪŋ]adj. _________________ 13.reinforce v.________________________________________ 14.capture英 [ˈkæptʃə] 美 [ˈkæptʃər]v. ________________________________________ 15.deploy英 [dɪˈplɔɪ] 美 [dɪˈplɔɪ]v. ________________________________________ 16.cache英 [kæʃ] 美 [kæʃ]n. ________________________________________ 17.thereby英 [ˌðeəˈbaɪ] 美 [ˌðerˈbaɪ]adv. ________________________________________ 18.all over again________________________________________ 【词块学习】 请从文章中找到下面中文相对应的文词块。 1.a live coverage of the Olympics ___________________ 2.a live show ___________________ 3.a recorded show ___________________ 4.baby boom ___________________ 5.technology boom ___________________ 6.alleged crime ___________________ 7.be convicted of a crime ___________________ 8.access to something ___________________ 9.in somebody's heyday/the heyday of somebody ___________________ 10.the heyday of jazz music ___________________ 11.capture a significant portion of the market share ___________________ 12.deploy resources ___________________ 13.deploy troops to the region ___________________ 14.a cache of explosives/weapons ___________________ 拓展练习阅读理解 Ellie had always considered herself to be someone who faced challenges head-on. From a young age, she competed in gymnastics, always pushing her limits and striving to perfect her routines. However, a severe ankle injury during a regional competition forced her to reevaluate her approach to the sport and her life. Recovery was slow and painful. Months of physical treatment and countless doctor visits were necessary before Ellie could even think about returning to gymnastics. During this period, she spent a lot of time reflecting on her passion for the sport and her fear that she might never compete again. Determined to not let her injury define her, Ellie began exploring other interests. She took up painting, something she had always been curious about but never had the time to pursue seriously.
