群文阅读与练习3 现代农业中的新农业技术 New agricultural technology refers to the use of technology in farming and agricultural practices to increase efficiency, productivity, and sustainability in food production. It includes several different types of technologies, such as precision agriculture, smart irrigation, biotechnology, and automation.Additionally, there are significant technological advancements in areas like modern greenhouse practices, and artificial intelligence which we will explore further in this article. Farm automation Farm automation, often associated with“smart farming”,is a technology that makes farms more efficient,as it automates the crop or livestock production cycle. An increasing number of agricultural technology companies are working on robotics innovation to develop drones, autonomous tractors, robotic harvesters, automatic watering, and seeding robots.Although these technologies are fairly new,the industry has seen an increasing number of traditional agriculture companies adopt farm automation into their processes,as its primary goal is to cover monotonous(单调的)tasks. Modern greenhouses In recent decades, the greenhouse industry has transformed from small facilities used primarily for research and aesthetic purposes to much larger facilities that compete directly with land-based conventional food production. The entire global greenhouse market currently produces about$350 billion worth of vegetables annually.Today,in large part due to the big recent improvements in growing technology, the industry is witnessing blossoming like no time before. Precision agriculture technology Agriculture is undergoing an evolution—technology is becoming an indispensable part of every commercial farm.New precision agriculture companies are developing technologies that allow farmers to maximize yields by controlling every variable of crop farming such as moisture levels, soil conditions, and microclimates.By providing more accurate techniques for planting and growing crops, precision agriculture enables farmers to increase efficiency and manage costs. Agriculture and artificial intelligence Artificial intelligence can monitor plant health, soil conditions, temperature, humidity, and more. The idea is to give farmers a better understanding of what's happening on the ground through advanced technology that can tell them more than the naked eye can see.And not only is it more accurate,it's also faster. The goal is to enable farmers to use this artificial intelligence to make better decisions in the field, thereby achieving their goals of better harvests. Reading Check 1.What is the primary goal of farm automation? A.To cover monotonous tasks in agriculture. B.To increase efficiency in farming processes. C.To develop robotics innovation in agriculture. D.To automate the crop or livestock production cycle. 2.How does precision agriculture technology benefit farmers? A.By replacing human farmers in the field. B.By increasing efficiency and managing costs. C.By monitoring plant health and soil conditions. D.By maximizing yields and controlling all crop variables. 3.Which of new agricultural technology can monitor plant health? A.Farm automation. B.Modern greenhouses. C.Precision agriculture technology. D.Agriculture and artificial intelligence. In Canada, reforestation (重新造林) plans are incredibly important. In fact, the law requires that a certain number of trees be planted per year to make up for those lost to wildfires and the logging industry. Many college students are drawn to tree planting as a summer job,for which they receive 13 to 27 cents per tree. Those who genuinely love the work often end up coming back for years. It's not easy work, according to Leslie. Not only is it physically tiring, but it also exposes laborers to the elements, including bad weather.“It could start out sunny and then minutes later,it will just be raining or snowing. You never know what to expect,”she described. Leslie has also had to stand being bitten by mosquitoes while walking through rocky areas. Then, there's the threat of local wildlife becoming aggressive. While Leslie herself has only seen most large animals from afar,a21-year-old woman performing the samejob just survived a bear attack last week. So far,Leslie has planted a total of 372,290 in the past few years. However, she's still nowhere near breaking the Guinness World Records. That honor belongs to Kenny Chaplin, who once planted 15,170 trees in 19 hours. After 35 years on the job,he says he'd recommend it to anyone. “I think every parent in Canada should send their kids out to plant trees and turn them into a worker,”he explained.“They'll learn how to work, and they'll have responsibility. They'll have money in their pockets.” Reading Check 1.What's the function of paragraph 1? However, she also knew it wouldn't be an easy trip. Not only would she have to wait until Monday for transportation, but she'd have to hike for an hour to reach the rocky spot where the baby eagle would have fallen. Then, there were time limitations due to the San Clemente Shore Bombardment Area (SHOBA),an area of the island used for navy target practice. Thankfully,Nicole was able to access the tricky location with a rescue team.It didn't take them long to find the fallen baby eagle, who was stranded on one of the rocks. Not only was he alive, but he also seemed to be unharmed and well-nourished.In fact,he still had some leftover fish in his claws, according to a post from the Institute for Wildlife Studies. “I thought,‘Oh,is this chick going to be fine?’”Nicole recalled.Looking up,Nicole saw the chick's mom watching over him. That's when she realized that the baby bird hadn't been alone. She and her team believed that the little guy's parents had been keeping him safe and fed the entire time!Since they were unable to reach him on their rocky perch, they likely dropped food down to him from above. When Nicole finally returned the chick to his nest, his parents were overjoyed. She knew this because she caught their reaction on camera! Looking over her photos from the rescue, she noticed she'd snapped a picture of one of the baby's parents flying down to greet him.“You can actually see one of the adults coming in,in the background,”Nicole said.“Like, immediately,‘Oh my goodness,I have three chicks in my nest again.’” Reading Check 1.What made it difficult for Nicole to reach the fallen baby eagle?
