Part 3 Critical thinking / Cultural background
Admittedly, wise or not, we have been “poisoned” by the on-going ads showed on TV screens or popped out in the middle of a video on the Internet. While driven crazy by those pervasive plant-in advertisements and swearing to God that we will never buy the damn products, we will eventually fall into those sugarcoated tricks, such as “free-try”, not realizing the money you’ll be “stolen”. That’s the magic of ads. Do you have such kind of experience? If we can’t live in a ads-free world, how can we avoid unnecessary impulse purchase triggered by ads?
Learn the true nature of ads. Good or not, ads try to reach you and persuade you into buying sth.
Some advertising psychology will help you see clearly, like human weakness of gaining petty advantages.
Figuring out whether the product is exactly what you want is the key point. If not, forget it.
Do some homework before buying it. Control yourselves and be sensible.
Reward yourselves a little bit(chocolate, cake, chips…) if you’ve managed to give up an impulse purchase. Carry on and gradually you’ll be immune to ads.
