After flying all night, I was tired as I arrived in Denver to hold an event on positive thinking. As I entered the lecture hall, Dr. Fred Vogt asked me, “Do you know about the Make-A-Wish Foundation?” “Yes,” I replied. “Well, a 17-year-old girl Amy Graham has been diagnosed as having terminal (晚期的) cancer. Doctors gave her three days. Her dying wish was to attend your lecture.”
I was shocked. I felt a combination of awe and doubt. I couldn’t believe it. I thought kids who were dying would want to go see Disneyland, or suchlike. Why would a kid with only a few days to live want to spend their final days listening to a motivational speaker? Suddenly my thoughts were interrupted…
“Here’s Amy.” Before me stood a girl wearing a bright red hat to cover her head, which was bald from all of the treatments. Her weak body was a bit bent. She said, “My two goals were to graduate from high school and to attend your lecture. My doctors didn’t believe I could do either and they didn’t think I’d have enough energy. I have to rely on my parents now.”
Tears welled in my eyes; I was choked up. My mind was being shaken. I cleared my throat and smiled, “Thanks for wanting to come.” We hugged, wiped our eyes and separated.
That Sunday afternoon I held the workshop that Amy and her parents attended. The audience was packed to overflowing with over a thousand attendees eager to learn, grow and become more fully human. I humbly asked the audience if they wanted to learn a healing process that might serve them for life. From the stage it appeared that everyone’s hand was raised high in the air. I taught the audience how to vigorously (用力地) rub their hands together, separate them by two inches and feel the healing energy. Then I paired them off with a partner to feel the healing energy from themselves to another, explaining that everyone had healing potential to support others.

People say there seems to be so much negativity in this world, but there are good people out there and sometimes we are made aware of them when we least expect it.
My family had been planning a yard sale for several weeks. Our five-year-old son, Braxton, asked if he could set up a lemonade (柠檬水) stand during the yard sale. He wanted to make a little money and save up to buy a set of Lego bricks, which might add up to $100. “I will earn it myself!” he declared proudly. He had been talking about it almost non-stop and couldn’t wait for the day to finally arrive.
Two days ago, we put up the sign “Yard Sale” in front of the driveway, telling neighbors about the time and items. On the very day, Braxton woke up early at 6:00 am and couldn’t hide his excitement. After setting everything out for the yard sale, he made the lemonade and baked some cookies to begin his business adventure.
After about an hour or more, we had several customers, but Braxton still had not sold any lemonade. He was a little sad. Then a young woman walked up with her baby to browse the items. While making small talk, we told her about Braxton’s plan to save his money for his little dream. She then selected a couple of baby toys for just $6 and paid with a $10 bill. “Keep the change, boy!” she said gently. Braxton offered to give her the lemonade and cookies he made. He couldn’t have been happier to receive his first little bit of money for the day.
The woman left with the baby toys, the lemonade and some cookies. We didn’t give it much thought after that, but the story didn’t end there.

I am in the Navy, and several years ago I was transferred from Chicago, Illinois, to Meridian, Mississippi. I was at the airport, trying to get my boarding pass and check my bags. Because I was moving, I had almost all of my possessions with me.
When I got to the counter, I found out there was a limit to the number of bags you can check without paying a fee. I had exceeded (超过) this limit by four bags. In order to get both myself and all of my things home, I would have to spend over $100. I didn’t have that kind of money with me, because I had just paid some of my bills and sent a few larger items home by mail.
The airline employee told me she couldn’t do anything to help me. So I asked her where the nearest ATM was. She told me how to find the ATM and suggested I should go to the Airport Help Point for some help.
There was just one staff member there, to whom I told my dilemma. He apologetically told me there was nothing he could do. I started to cry because I didn’t know what was going to happen next.
A fellow military gentleman was there using the amenities (便利设备), and he overheard me tell my story to the staff member. He came over and asked me for the story again. I told him, and we talked for a few minutes. He told me he was a parachuter (伞兵) in the army. I told him that my dad had been an army parachuter a long time ago. He told me to go to the ATM and see what I could withdraw from my account. So I went, but I could only pull out eighty dollars.

I was born and grew up in a small seaside town. In my childhood, I often played on the beach with my elder sister, chasing(追逐) the waves and enjoying the seaside scenery.
One sunny summer afternoon, my sister and I were playing on a big rock. quite a distance from the beach. We were so happy that we didn’t notice the water rising. When we decided to go back, we were shocked to find that the rock had almost been covered by water and there was no way back to the shore. Meanwhile, the wind blew harder and harder. We got into a panic, waving and shouting crazily towards the shore. Suddenly, I slipped (滑) and fell into the sea. My sister stretched out her hand to catch hold of me. However, she could not stay still, and stay off the rock into the sea, too.
“Help! Help!” We cried. I could feel my body tingling (酸麻) as I tried to breathe for air. I attempted to swim back to the rock, but the water was too deep and the waves were too strong. What made things worse was that the rough water made it almost impossible for anyone to hear our cries. Tears mixed with the water as I struggled in the sea. My sister, although using all her strength, wasn’t able to pull me in. Instead, she was being pushed apart from me by the big waves. The two of us, scared to death, kept crying.
Luckily, two boys playing on the beach happened to see us. They quickly found a stick nearby and approached us cautiously, hand in hand. They tried to pull us ashore with the stick. But the stick was too short for us to reach. Worse still, the wind was getting so strong that the two boys were rocked from side to side, unable to stand steadily. Eventually, they had no choice but to go back to the shore to look for other people to help us.

Jack’s grandfather lived in the countryside. One summer holiday, he went to visit his grandfather, with whom he played all the time. One day he suddenly said to his grandfather, “When I grow up, I want to become a successful man. Can you tell me some ways to be successful?”
Seeing Jack’s innocent eyes, the grandfather nodded. However, without saying anything, he took Jack to a nearby nursery. From the nursery, his grandpa bought two small plants and came back home. Then he planted one plant in a pot and kept it inside the house and planted the other outside the house. After finishing planting, he asked Jack, “Which of these two plants do you think will grow better in the future?”
Jack kept thinking for some time and then said, “That plant inside the house will grow better because it is safe from every danger while the plant outside is at risk of many things like strong sunlight, storms, animals and so on.”
The grandfather smiled and said, “Let’s see what will happen in the future.” After that Jack left with his parents. Four years later, Jack came back to visit his grandfather again. Upon seeing his grandfather, Jack said, “Grandpa, last time I asked you some ways to be successful, but you did not tell me anything. This time you have to tell me.”
The grandfather smiled and said, “Sure, but first, let’s take a look at the plants that we bought a few years ago.”
Saying this, he took Jack to the place where he had planted the small plant in a pot. Jack found the plant had turned into a tree. Then the grandfather took Jack to look at the plant which they had planted outside. There stood a huge tree. Its branches spread far and wide, providing shade to passers-by.

The Refrigerator Boxes It couldn't have been easy for my mom - a single mother with three energetic kids aging ten to sixteen, who worked long hours to provide us with clothing and food. Somehow she did it, keeping us busy and out of trouble Sometimes she had to be really creative.
One Christmas, Mom came home from work with three boxes… three refrigerator boxes. Seriously. Refrigerator boxes. That weekend, she sent us out to the garage with those boxes and several cans of paint. Our only instructions were to paint them however we wanted. We had no idea what those boxes would be used for and I painted mine in my favorite color: bright purple. After our day of painting, my siblings and I put those boxes out of our minds and began to look forward to Christmas Day. We knew Mom didn't have a lot of extra money, we shopped at the thrift store for school clothes, gathered supplies at Pic-N- Save, and bought day- old bread at a local bakery. But that certainly didn't keep me from wanting something very special that year. I knew, though, it was unlikely.
Christmas Eve came. We talked about what we hoped would be under the tree. My sixteen-year-old sister desired a beanbag chair, my brother mentioned his drum set; I, as the youngest child, wanted an all- for- me bicycle! I kept telling myself that it wasn't going to happen. I would be happy with whatever my mom gave me. We headed for home and opened our stockings. As always, they were full of candy, small toys, and a pair of socks. We drank hot cocoa and sang a few more carols. Then it was off to bed. On Christmas morning, after eating eggs, bacon, and toast, we ran to the living room.

The birth of the little girl, Melody, cast a shadow over her family. The words the doctor said to Dana and Jeff completely shook them, “Your daughter was born with a cleft lip (唇裂).” It was impossible for the couple to hide their sadness. They couldn’t believe it was true until they saw their daughter in person. Seeing her cleft made Dana and Jeff heartbroken more than anything. It broke their heart to imagine the kind of life Melody would lead in the future.
Fortunately, Dana and Jeff saw a ray of hope when the doctor told the couple that their daughter’s condition was treatable with a cleft lip surgery (外科手术). Rather than feeling stressful like the first few days, they promised themselves they never wanted their daughter to suffer from that. They would spare no effort to support Melody.
Nothing is precious than their little angel, and Dana as well as Jeff was ready to do anything for Melody. After bringing Melody home, they immediately began looking for clef surgery options. However, no matter where they turned, getting Melody the surgery she needed was expensive, and the various treatments and medications she needed in the following would also be much more costly than the young family could afford.
Then came the thrilling moment when Jeff browsed through a medical forum one evening, he stumbled upon (意外发现) a post about a nonprofit organization that specialized in cleft lip surgeries for children. The organization, named Smileatfuture, is dedicated to providing free surgeries to families who could not ford the procedure. The couple had seen a lot of photos and read a lot of stories about children who had cleft surgeries sponsored by Smileatfuture, and the results were incredible. The idea that Melody could grow up with hardly a scar (伤疤) where her cleft was lit a fire under the couple. Without any hesitation, Dana and her husband reached out to Smileatfuture and handed in an application for medical aid.

It was in the bleak midwinter, and the traveling couple, trudged (费力地走) through the cold night, seeking shelter. The father- to- be scanned the roadside for some home, some inn, some stable where his struggling companion might rest safely for the night. He looked over at her frequently. She labored along without complaint, her way made heavier by the new life growing inside her. They needed a warm, dry place safe from the bitter wind. When her time came, it must not be out here along the roadway.
Gus Kiebel, a county wildlife officer, was driving home from work when he spotted the pair in the flash of his headlights. It was snowing so hard that it was difficult to see, but he could tell the dogs were wearing collars and tags. What were they doing out here on this stretch of wooded road, when it was too cold for dogs to go outside? Gus parked his truck and approached the animals. He squatted (蹲下) and stretched out his hands to the beagles, which made no effort to escape. He read their tags by his truck’s headlights: The female was named Pepper, and the male was Cooper. He pulled out his phone to call the number listed, but it was snowing so hard that his screen blurred.
He placed the dogs in his truck, on the floorboards on the passenger side. By the time he came around to the driver’s side, they had climbed onto the passenger seat and were snuggled (依偎) together there. Gus dried his phone, snapped a picture of the pair and sent it to his wife, Katic Kiebcl.
Then he dialed the number from the dogs’ tags. A man answered and immediately grew defensive when Gus told him why he was calling. “I gave those dogs away,” the man said.“ They’ re not mine anymore.”
“ Well, do you want them back?”
“ No. I can’t take care of them.” The man hung up.
These beagles were abandoned, then. Gus looked over at them, their large ho und eyes pleading. Gus called the county dog warden’s office, but it was after hours, so he left a message. Then he called Katie.

It was late, about 10:15 p.m. when Janice Esposito safely arrived at the Bellport, New York, train station; she happily jumped into her little car, and couldn’t wait to begin the 20-minute drive home to see her loved husband and seven-year-old son. She had just returned from visiting her older mother in Los Angles and had traveled the route many times before. She drove on autopilot(自动驾驶) practically and skillfully: a left onto Station Road, then a left on Montauk Highway, and then suddenly—wham!
Out of nowhere on that awful night a truck hit Janice’s car, violently pushing her to move backward some 100 feet away onto the railroad tracks. She sat in the car, bruised(撞伤) but mostly just knocked out by the impact and by the vehicle’s airbags.
As it happened, Pete DiPinto was getting ready for bed. He’d just closed his book, turned off the light and was lazily crawling under the covers when he heard the high-pitched clang sound of metal on metal and breaking glass coming from not far outside his bedroom window. As a volunteer firefighter and retired teacher, DiPinto, 64, instantly became alert and never stopped to think. He quickly grabbed a big professional flashlight out of habit, put his own cellphone in the pocket of his pajamas(睡衣), and hurriedly ran out the door without getting changed. “Any firefighter would have done what I did,” he later told Newsday. “We’re always on duty.”
The first truck DiPinto came upon, 2,000 feet away from his front yard, was the one that had hit Janice, who was trapped in her car still, her eyes closed and her mind semiconscious. He looked around and spotted one wheel of Janice’s car positioned on the railroad tracks.

Every day in the evening after I have finished my homework, I will go out for a walk in the small park near my home and play some outdoor games with other children sometimes, but the outdoor activity that I did for the first time was something different and it had a great influence on me.
It was in the middle of last summer holiday, when I noticed that some of the people were gathering in the center of the park and they all had bicycles with them. They were dressed like professional cyclists and were discussing something excitedly. That day I was with one of my neighborhood friends and we went out with our bicycles. My friend and I went closer to the group and heard that they were members of a bicycling group, who did the cycling as part of their outdoor exercise.
After staying with them for a while, we found that they were planning to cycle around the city in 4 hours. The team leader, a friendly man in his fifties, kindly invited us to join them just when we were about to leave. They made us members of their group. Carrying small flags of various colors, we together started the cycling ride around the city, starting from the park and went through the major parts of the whole city. To be honest, cycling for the whole 3 — 4 hours was not an easy task, especially for us teenagers who were still in high school. And yet we enjoyed it and we managed to keep close to the group who gave us courage the whole time.
After a few hours, we came back to the park where we started and I found that I was totally absorbed and tired. As we sat down to catch our breath, the team leader approached us with a warm smile. He praised our determination and will, noting that we had done exceptionally well as first-timers. His encouragement made us feel proud and motivated.

School was over, the day was fading and it started to rain. I stood at the school gate, with a loaded backpack on my shoulders. It was Friday again — a weekend of joy with unlimited sleeping hours and dinner courses specially made to my taste. I waved goodbye to my friends as they jumped into their fathers’ warm and comfortable cars. Curiously, this gave rise to a disturbing feeling in me. It was not exactly what they called jealousy, but something like depression. I knew all 1 could expect was an old bike Mom would ride along on, with the badly-oiled chain creaking against the wheel to announce her arrival.
Every Friday when Mom came to pick me up, it was a moment full of great expectation and great unease. I always felt my face burning as we rode our way in and out of the cars and saw my friends’ faces sticking out of the car windows. It was like stepping into a ballroom with beautifully dressed ladies and finding yourself in a smelly T-shirt.
To tell you the truth, Mom is quite a headache occasionally. She looks like a homely middle-aged housewife. She knits most of my sweaters, chiefly in old styles. Whenever caught by some curious classmates asking what brand my sweaters are, I’d force a smile and reply in a half-joking manner: homemade. She simply doesn’t seem to understand what’s in fashion; Chanel or Gucci means nothing to her.
I couldn’t remember when l started to find her such an embarrassment. As a little boy, I relied on her so much. She had been working at home, cooking in the kitchen, knitting by the lamp, or riding across town to buy me a book 1 badly needed. It had always been fun riding with her. I had enjoyed watching our shadows growing longer and shorter in an alternate fashion by the light of the streetlamps along the road. Just now there seemed to be something standing between us, something that made her so strange to me and me to her.

“Only a couple hours to go,” I told myself. We’d made it to northern Indiana after driving all afternoon and evening, heading home from a family vacation in Wisconsin. We’d gotten a late start packing up, none of us wanting to leave our lakeside hotel before we had to. Now we were paying the price. It would be past midnight when we got home.
My wife Jeannie, who was always thoughtful and positive, drove for some time to allow me to take a break from driving. Now I took the turn. However, I wasn’t so alert (警觉的).
I turned on the radio, softly, so as not to disturb my wife, who was sleeping beside me. I was on a two-lane state highway. It was slower than the interstate, but less stressful. I generally didn’t mind driving late at night, though I really could have used a cup of coffee. I had a look at my three sleeping children, ages 14, 10, and 3, in the back seat. “Keep alert!” I said to myself.
The voice of my 3-year-old son, Jon, broke the silence. “I have to go to the bathroom, Dad.” I couldn’t stop in the middle of the highway in the dark. But right up ahead was a building. A diner. Maybe a chance to get that coffee. I pulled into the parking lot. The restaurant was closed.
I looked around and saw the tall grass surrounding the lot. That would have to do for Jon. I led Jon there. As he took care of business, I tried to drive away a mosquito that flew out of the grass. Then another. And another. I urged Jon to hurry. We ran back to the car and closed the doors. Jeannie, our oldest daughter Amy, and Jennifer who still wore her hat were wide awake.
I felt a mosquito touch down on my neck. I said, “I sure picked the wrong place to stop.” Jeannie patted me on the arm and attempted to catch the mosquito.
I switched on the light in the car. The children were screaming, “They’re everywhere!”
“You do the driving,” Jeannie quickly said to me with a smile. “Let us take care of the mosquitoes.”
The children readily agreed.

I had appendicitis (阑尾炎) when I was twelve. It ended up getting serious, and I was in the hospital for the better part of the summer. For the first week or so, I was so miserable that I didn’t really do anything but sleep, but as I started feeling better, I wanted to keep occupied. I read too quickly for my mom to keep me in books and wasn’t really interested in television even then, so my mom was desperate.
This being the early 2000s, she eventually hit on one of the most popular trends of the time: bead (珠子) keychains. She bought me some threads, a bag of beads in every color of the rainbow and a book that taught me how to make all different types of animals. I mastered the making process of it pretty quickly, and it kept me happily engaged in between books.
One day, one of the nurses came in and saw me working on one and exclaimed over how cute it was. She was one of my favorite nurses, so I immediately offered her one, and she immediately attached it to her ID badge (徽章). A nursing assistant asked for one, so I gave him one too, and then my doctor… and then it seemed like everyone wanted one!
I started spending most of my time making lizards (蜥蜴), snakes, and a turtle in the color combinations requested. My mom said she felt bad that it was turning from a hobby into a chore, but I genuinely enjoyed it and wanted to make something for everybody who’d been so nice to me when I was sick.
What I didn’t find out until some time later was that one of the officers supervising the hospital saw one of my nurses and criticized her for the lizard hanging on her badge and the officer said that the lizard was“ out of uniform” and therefore against regulations.

In the heart of the busy city of Avonlea, where the sounds of rushing cars never ceased, lived sixteen-year-old Emma. Unlike her classmates, who were often keen on the latest technology, Emma had a preference for knitting (编织) .
Emma’s love for knitting was deeply influenced by her mother, who possessed a skilled and creative touch with needles. Her mother’s passion for knitting and generous spirit of helping others always inspired Emma to follow in her footsteps and take up knitting as a meaningful hobby.
Emma was really good at knitting. She liked to make scarves, gloves, hats and mini bags for her friends as well as her relatives. Her hats were created in a variety of styles and colors, each one unique and full of personality. Whether it was a mini bag or a classic scarf, each knitting work was a carefully crafted masterpiece and a unique gift full of love and warmth. With beauty and practicality, Emma’s creations never failed to impress.
One freezing morning in the peak of winter, the city had just been blanketed by a snowstorm that had left many, particularly the homeless, in desperate situation. As Emma made her way to school, she noticed a shaking figure under the bridge near her school. It was a homeless man she often saw on her route, but today he looked particularly miserable (可怜的) . His face was half-hidden under a piece of worn cloth that hardly served as protection against the cold. Touched by the sight, Emma decided to present her scarf to the homeless man. From my memory, my father was a man of few words and we were never close to each other. Before he joined the army, he built a house with his own hands. When he was tragically killed in one battle, the house became mine. As the house aged, it became a relic of the past, and we moved away, carrying with me the echoes of his silent presence.
One day, someone called, saying that he wanted to buy that house. I said yes.
Before we reached a deal, I thought it a must to check out the old shack (小屋) first, just in case something of value had been left behind. My two young sons followed along, and we waded through the tall grass in the mead ow where the old house sat. Time had taken its toll. The front porch had collapsed in on itself, most of the windows were gone, and the siding was falling off. We entered through an open window.
I felt as though I had chanced upon a time capsule (胶囊). Here lay the things of my dad’s lives. A broken chair. Some old clothes. But the thing that drew my eye was acardboard box stuffed with papers. I dug through its contents and was instantly transported back in time. There was a tax return from 1975. Greeting cards from old relatives and friends.
I spent most of a pleasant hour going through that box. All the while, I had to answer a stream of questions from my sons about the old house. They were amazed that nine people once occupied the tiny structure. And they shivered when I told them that in those days the cook stove was the only source of heat.
There’s nothing of value had been left, I confirmed. So we came back. The house once again enjoyed the lonely solitude of our meadow.
Then the paying day came. For no reason, maybe some reason, I came to that old house to say goodbye to something.

“Did you write your thank- you notes?” I asked my younger son, Jon.
“No, not yet, Mom,” Jon replied, rolling his eyes. “I’ll do it when I get back from Kim’s house.”
“Sorry, that’s not going to happen!” I said seriously. “You’d better write a note to everyone you came into contact with during your interview before leaving.”
“Even the receptionist who was rude to me?” Jon asked with a confused expression.
“Especially her!”
Jon was home on summer holiday from college and had just finished interviewing with his first- choice company in Cleveland, Ohio.
The power of a thank- you note is something I developed in my boys from the time they were old enough to hold a pencil. No matter what festival it was, every gift had to be acknowledged with sincere gratitude within twenty- four hours. It was my hope that writing thank- you notes would change their life.
After an hour, Jon appeared from his room and handed over eight thank- you notes. To my delight, they were all sincere and heartfelt— even the one to the receptionist who had been less friendly.
Before Jon left to visit his friend Kim, he turned to me and announced, “Mom, I’m pretty sure that a thank- you note to the manager or the receptionist isn’t going to land me this job. But if it makes you happy, then it’s worth it.”
“We’ll see about that,” I said, smiling at Jon, who was twenty- one years old.
Ten days after the thank- you notes were mailed, Jon received a call from the company that he had interviewed with. When his cellphone rang for the second time, I asked, “Jon, why aren’t you responding?”.
“They’re just calling to let me know that I didn’t get the job,” Jon said.
“They don’t offer that politeness,” I explained. “They only give you a call when you get the job.”
For days, Jon had been wandering around the house, feeling the weight of his school loans coming due after graduation and not having a job lined up. He had completely convinced himself that he didn’t get the job, but I knew better.

School was out, a half day. The boys were looking forward to it for weeks to escape from the long days of winter. It was particularly warm for that time of year, although snow still covered the ground. As Kyle, Logan, Jackson, Sam and Anthony sat around thinking about what to do, it finally hit them. “Let’s go to the pond!” said one of the boys.
Anyone with common sense would say a frozen pond in 7℃ weather probably isn’t a good idea. They set out anyway, and by the time they got there, sweat was pouring down their faces. But there it was. Shining in the sun like a sheet of glass. They knew little that the shimmer (微光) wasn’t just ice; it was water sitting on the top of it.
Sam walked over to the edge, lifted his foot and placed it on the ice, followed slowly by the other foot. He had a smile on his face and set off for the middle of it. “Come on, guys. Look! It’s fine.” That was all anyone needed. One by one they touched down on the ice. Minutes passed by, and everything seemed to be going quite well for the boys, until it didn’t.
Anthony and Sam were walking next to each other, and the next moment, they were gone. The ice cracked underneath them, throwing them into the freezing cold water. The boys’ eyes widened, filled with terror, no clue what to do. Kyle turned and ran to the shore, praying they didn’t make the problem worse. Water splashed (溅起) everywhere as Sam and Anthony tried to grab the ice, but the effort was in vain.
As panic took hold of the group, Kyle quickly assessed the situation. He knew he needed to act fast to save his friends. Without hesitating, he shouted to the remaining boys, “Call for help!” Logan and Jackson immediately ran to the neighborhood for help. Kyle searched for any tools or objects that could assist in the rescue. He spotted a long tree branch on the ground and quickly grabbed it.

Emily Harper sat at her desk, staring blankly at the math problems in front of her. Numbers and variables danced confusingly across the page, laughing at her every effort. At school, Emily was known for her artistic talents, but math had always been her weakness, No matter how hard she tried, she just couldn’t make sense of it.
Her struggles only worsened in the 10th grade. The pressure to keep up with her classmates grew, and the poor grades shook her confidence. Her parents decided to step in. “We need to find you some help,” her mother gently suggested one evening.
Then came Mr. Jenkins, a retired local teacher known for his unique teaching style. Emily was initially resistant; the idea of spending extra hours on a subject she hated seemed like a punishment. But - she unwillingly agreed, knowing something had to change.
Their first session was tense. Mr. Jenkins, sensing her frustration, didn’t dive straight into problems. Instead, he asked about her interests. When Emily spoke passionately about her painting, he smiled. “Math is like art, Emily. It has patterns and beauty if you know where to look.”
Doubtful but inspired, Emily listened as he began to explain concepts through visual examples. He used colors and shapes, turning abstract numbers into something almost tangible (有形的). For the first time, math seemed less like a foreign language and more like a puzzle waiting to be solved.
However, progress was slow. Weeks passed with, minimal improvement, and Emily’s patience wore thin. A particularly difficult quiz left her in tears, convinced she was sure to fail. Mr. Jenkins said, “Remember, Emily, every artist starts with a blank canvas. Masterpieces aren’t created overnight.”
Encouraged by his firm belief, Emily pushed on. She began to see the connections between the steps, how each solution followed a logical path. Small victories in practice problems gave her some hope. Mr. Jenkins was always there, celebrating her successes, no matter how minor.

When I was in high school, like many other teenage boys, I played in a band. Most of our families came from South Africa, so, we mixed our favorite hard rock and heavy metal songs with elements of South African rhythms and melodics. Although our band didn’t achieve widespread success, we were always able to touch the audience to the heart, feeling the unique impact of music.
At our school’s talent show, we weren’t the best, but we were good enough to come in third place, which made us more confident. Then, we decided to test the waters beyond our classmates. When we were booked for a charitable event at a large hospital, we were delighted. This opportunity was a thrilling breakthrough. Yet, beneath our excitement, we felt a sense of anxiety to perform for strangers — could our tunes really touch an audience unfamiliar with our sound?
For two weeks, we threw ourselves into intense practice sessions, meeting daily after school to practice hard and learn enough songs to fill a one- hour show.
On the concert day, we arrived early to check the stage. We felt nervous as we stood there and looked out at the hundred or so empty chairs lined up below us. After setting up and doing a quick sound check, we went backstage to have a soda and rest, doing anything to calm our nerves. While we were back there the hospital’s entertainment director came over to chat with us.
“Okay, boys, there are a couple of important details you should know,” she began. “Many in the audience today are suffering from severe physical and/ or mental disabilities. Don’t be surprised by that. These patients have very few chances to see live entertainment of any kind, so they enjoy any kind of musical act that we can provide. Just go ahead and play your regular show, and you’ll do fine.” After saying that, she left, joining into the theatre to help the volunteers and staff who were assisting the patients to their seats.

It was a snowing Monday night. Mava received an invitation from her friend Lily, asking Maya to attend her birthday party next Wednesday evening. To Maya’s amazement and excitement, the invitation looked like it came from Hogwarts. It would be a Harry Potter-themed costume party. As Lily’s good friend and as one of the millions of Harry Potter fans, Maya definitely accepted the invitation without a second thought. Her favourite character was Harry’s best female friend Hermione. Maya admired her not just because she was extremely clever and a bit of a know-it-all, but also for her bravery and a positive mindset. Every time faced with difficulty, she always had a way out. Maya was so eager to wear Hermione’s costume that she couldn’t wait to make preparations for it. She made a list of things to buy, which consisted of a f lark V-neck sweater, a white collared shirt with the Gryffindor tie, a skirt, stockings, Mary Jane shoes, a black cloak (斗篷) and of course a scarf of bee color.
With the list in hand, Maya happily went to tell her mother, Sarah, all about it. Sarah was weaving a sweater in the living room. After learning Maya’s plan, Sarah thought it was not necessary to buy all the clothing for they cost a lot and Maya had already had a dark V-neck sweater, a white collared shirt, many skirts, stockings and a pair of Mary Jane shoes. Therefore, she advised her daughter to rent or buy a second-hand black cloak and a brown and golden scarf. But Maya insisted that all the costumes should be brand-new. “Hermione is more about books than looks. Just remember to keep things tidy, simple and modest.” Sarah stopped weaving and told her daughter. Maya agreed with her mom, but she still wanted a new cloak and a new scarf.

Ruby was so proud of her new skates! She put them on right away and was soon rushing along the sidewalk. Her little brother Max could only watch in envy.
“I wish I had a pair!” he told his mum.
“Well, you’re nearly big enough to wear Ruby’s old skates,” she replied.
But when Max tried on Ruby’s old skates, they were too big. He stuffed newspaper into the boots. Much to his disappointment, he fell over each time he tried to stand up in them.
Finally, he gave up, only watching Ruby skating around him.
“I should put on a skating display!” Ruby decided. “All our aunts, uncles and cousins will come. You’ll watch me, Max?”
Max sighed. He didn’t want to watch the show. He wanted to be in it! “Poor Max!” said his mum. Then, she took out a pair of thick red socks to let Max pull them on with the hope of fitting better.
Max eye d the red socks skeptically, saying, “Mum, these look just like my red soccer socks, but smaller.” His mum smiled, “Ah, your red soccer socks are too thin and meant for running, but these are magic socks that have the power to expand and stretch to fit most feet...”
Magic? When Mum left the room, Max took the wand (魔杖) from his magic set and waved it around a few times, “Magic socks, you are so great! Use your magic to help me skate” Max slipped the socks on and tried skating in his bedroom. He didn’t full over! He tried again. He still didn’t fall. He could now skate— thanks to his magic socks! Hooray!
The next morning, when he skated up to Ruby on one foot, she stared in amazement.“ Max, you are magic!” Thrilled, Ruby invited him to join in the show. My first year of high school felt awkward. The school was twice as big as my old school, and to make matters worse, my closest friends were sent to a different high school. I felt very isolated.
One Sunday afternoon not long after I had started high school, I was sitting at home at our dining room table doing homework. It was a cold and windy fall day, and we had a fire going in our fireplace. As usual, my red tabby cat (虎斑猫) was lying on top of all my papers, purring loudly and occasionally swatting at my pen for entertainment’s sake. My mother kept stoking the fire to keep the house nice and warm.
Suddenly, I smelled something strange, and then I noticed smoke pouring in through the seams of the ceiling. The smoke began to fill the room so quickly that we could barely see. Groping our way to the front door, we all ran out into the front yard. By the time we made our way outside, the whole roof was overwhelmed in flames. I ran to the neighbors to call the fire department.
Five hours later, the fire was finally out. Our house was almost completely burned down. But then it struck me…I hadn’t seen my cat. Where was my cat? Much to my horror, I realized that she was nowhere to be found.
Then all at once it hit me — all the security I had known, from my old school, my friends, my house to my cat, had all been ripped away — I broke down in tears. Regardless, I had to go. We piled into the car with just the clothes on our backs and a few of the firemen’s blankets, and made our way to my grandparents’ house to spend the night.
The next day, Monday, I went to school like a zombie (无生气的人). When I was getting ready for gym class at my locker, people asked me to hurry up. I thought it strange, but soon I saw why.

There was a girl in my class named Krista. Krista didn’t like me. In fact, I thought she hated me. I was always the smallest in the class and maybe that made me easy to pick on. She would say, “Little girl, no one likes you, little girl!” She even punched me in the arm and I cried a lot in the bathroom. Finally one day, I decided to face the bullying (霸凌) . So right as the bell was about to ring, I went up to Krista, kicked her in the leg, and then ran as fast as I could. I was safe with the teacher in the classroom, but Krista beamed an evil look and said, “Be scared. I’ll get you later.”
I worked hard at avoiding her the rest of the year. I remembered telling my mom about it, and she comforted me by saying “Nobody can tell you how little you are—you decide how big you will be.” I really liked that saying.
I would say it in my head often and find strength in these words. But the thought of Krista’s bullying didn’t die in my mind.
One day, I received a letter about my coming-of-age ceremony, the biggest day of my youth. Then I read who my partner would be. KRISTA.How could this be? She was the source of all my anxiety and insecurity and yet this day was supposed to show my strength, pride, and wisdom.
When the day came, Krista and I both acted civil. I could tell she wasn’t pleased either. When I read my speech, I read loudly and confidently. I had practiced long and hard. I saw my friends and family smiling at me, and I focused just on them.
Then it was Krista’s turn. She was shaking. I was shocked at how nervous and scared the bully seemed. I suddenly felt something that I never imagined feeling toward Krista—sympathy. I had always dreamed of the day I could laugh in her face and make her feel as little as she made me feel. But now, I didn’t want to do it anymore.

Seventeen-year-old George Grand, a soul filled with curiosity and fearlessness, spends his free time searching the riverbeds for hidden valuables. On a fateful day, his fortune smiled upon him when his magnet (磁铁) picked up a safe packed with thousands of dollars. To the astonishment of all, he started a journey to find the lawful owner of the safe and returned it to its rightful destination.
George made his unbelievable discovery one day when he was searching the river with his father, Kevin. They both enjoy magnet fishing: using a strong magnet to pull lost metal objects out of river and ocean depths. While most of these treasure hunters find common items like cans, nails and bicycles, some lucky people have been able to find something surprising.
When George and Kevin’s magnet found a heavy object, the curious pair pulled it out to see what they had discovered. They removed years of river sand and mud from a small safe and forced it open.
Inside, they found some wet business documents, an old wallet and a bag containing $2, 500. Further check discovered that the safe also contained several bank cards, which listed the name they needed to track down the rightful owner. After some online searching, they learned that a local businessman of the same name, Robert Smith, reported his safe missing 22 years ago. George and Kevin helped right the wrong 22 years later.
George and Kevin found Robert through his current business. Shocked that someone had found his safe 22 years after it had been lost, Robert made plans to meet George and Kevin in his office. He was thankful for their effort in finding his safe and was interested in meeting the young man who had made such a moral decision.

Our group had stopped to remove our boots before a small stream crossing after a morning of exploring the seaside foothills of Canada’s Torngat Mountains National Park in Newfoundland and Labrador. I looked up and there it was, about 150 yards away, staring at us: a polar bear. Our guides had warned us about the dangers of polar bear country, but I thought I’d be lucky if I saw one in the wild.
I’ve seen plenty of black bears, but never anything this big. This guy was a bruiser. We gathered together and began shouting at the bear, but when that didn’t frighten it, our guide, Rich, shot a flare(照明弹). The bear escaped to a ledge, and we crossed the stream into camp. It stayed there as we cooked and ate our dinner. When bedtime rolled around, I glanced up. The bear hadn’t moved. I started cycling through all the worst- case scenarios that could hap- pen, but I tried to remember everything we’d prepared to keep us safe.
Our guides had put up an electric fence meant to frighten bears away from our tents. It ran off a couple of batteries like you would put in a flashlight. The outfitter said if we touched it, the shock would blow us out of our hiking boots. I crawled into my tent and tried to get some rest.
I lay awake, trembling with anxiety, but eventually, sleep got the best of me. A few hours later, I stepped out of my tent to go to the bathroom, and the bear was gone. I felt relieved.
The sounds of rain and snow made me back to sleep. Around 2:30 a. m., movement outside woke me. I had been sleeping on my back and looked up to see a shadow towering over my tent. I recognized the shape immediately; two big bear legs, Obviously, the electric fence didn’t work.
I screamed, and tried to take flight.

【答案】At that point an idea struck me. I said to the audience, “This morning I was introduced to Amy Graham, a 17-year-old. I want to bring her up here and let you all send healing life energy toward her.” Supported by her father, Amy stepped onto the stage, looking frail from an absolute lack of exercise. She talked about what she was suffering from and her final wish to be at this workshop. Touched by her story, the audience spontaneously warmed up their hands and engaged in the simple exercise, after which they gave her a tearful standing ovation.
With a round of applause, Amy’s dad led her off the stage. At that moment, the workshop became more than just a lecture on positive thinking — it showed the power of hope and the resilience of the human spirit. After the workshop concluded, attendees lingered, sharing stories and exchanging contact information. Many approached Amy and her parents, offering words of encouragement. It was clear that something extraordinary had taken place — a blend of hope, belief, and the courage to confront adversity with positivity. Before leaving, Amy thanked me for the unexpected invitation, which was a real bonus for her and gave her the healing power beyond physical remedies.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Paragraph 1:
Several minutes passed and the woman returned. “Is there anything wrong?” I thought to myself. I actually thought she was here to ask for her change back. Of course, I couldn’t have been more wrong. She was carrying an envelope this time. She handed it to us and said, “The lemonade and cookies are so delicious that I want to buy all of them. I hope you can give them away to whoever passes by your stand for me.” We thanked her and she walked away. We opened the envelope after she left and found a $100 bill in it.Paragraph 2:
Holding the envelope and the bill, we were so moved. It was just a random act of kindness by a total stranger that would make a little five-year-old boy’s wish come true. At the same time, she delivered that kindness to other strangers by offering them lemonade and cookies for free. She obviously did not do it for praise or recognition. She just did it out of the kindness of her heart. Contrary to what some may think, the positivity in this world really does outweigh the negativity. There are good people around us doing good deeds, asking for nothing back.

【答案】
When I got back, much to my surprise, the ticket counter told me the man had paid the entire fee for me. He left without me knowing his name, phone number or address, so I couldn’t return him what he had paid. He helped me get home when I was in trouble. I was wondering what I could do to repay his kindness all the way.
When I was waiting to claim my luggage, a familiar figure caught my eye. It was the parachuter, who happened to have been on the same flight as me. I quickened my pace to catch up with him, saying, “Hi! I want to thank ...” “It’s OK.” He cut in, holding out his hand and adding, “Nice to meet you. I’m Jack.” With a grateful smile, I grasped his hand tightly and asked him for his address. Jack smiled heartily and said, “Never mind. I just want to help those in trouble as I was once treated.” After that, he went away, leaving me in tears of gratitude. Watching his back disappear from view, I decided to pass on the act of kindness.

【答案】
The grandfather looked at Jack and asked, “Tell me which plant grew better?” Jack pointed at the huge tree standing outside with a confused look. Seeing the boy’s innocent eyes and sensing his uncertainty, the grandfather explained that while the plant outside had to face many challenges, overcoming these difficulties ultimately made it stronger. With a smile, he added, “In order to fight against rainstorms, it needed to stand firm; to survive droughts, it should force itself to root in depth. As a result, it grew strong and resilient, capable of enduring anything. Isn’t it impressive?”
Jack nodded, the grandfather continued his words. “Four years ago, you asked me about ways to be successful. Now, the tree is the answer,” the grandfather said. As Jack gazed at the huge tree with its branches spreading far and wide and providing shade to passers-by, his grandfather elaborated that being ready to face this world despite all the dangers meant no goal was impossible to achieve. He then patted Jack on the shoulder, offering this wisdom, “Never think of problems as troubles; instead, view them as steps towards personal growth.” With this newfound insight, Jack understood the true meaning of success.

【答案】Seeing the refrigerator boxes under the tree, we were frozen there. We exchanged our eyes and wondered what would be in the huge boxes we had painted. Mom smiled gently and signaled us to open them. To our surprise, we found our long-anticipated gifts. In my sister's box was a bright red beanbag chair. My brother found a refurbished drum set in his box. And in mine? My very first, all- for- me purple bicycle! Exactly what I wanted! It too was refurbished, but that didn't matter. We all got our Christmas gifts!
We were wondering at these gifts when my mom appeared. We hugged mom and wished each other “Merry Christmas”. Mom once again made a Christmas wish come true. Yes, it couldn't have been easy, but somehow, my mom made that Christmas one of the best I'd ever had. Inside the huge box was not only my desired gift, but also a mother's love for her children, a giant box of love! She loved us in the way maybe no other mom would do and I had the best mom in the world.

Smileatfuture’s team was incredibly supportive, guiding them on everything they needed to do to prepare Melody for her surgery. Knowing that their daughter’s future was in capable hands, they left with a newfound sense of optimism that day.
The big day for Melody’s surgery finally came. All the tests beforehand showed that Melody was in perfect condition for the surgery. The couple’s hearts were overflowing with a mix of anxiety and hope. After what seemed a century’s waiting, they finally had good news that the surgery was a success. Imagining that their girl was on track for a life of joy, loving to run around and play with other kids in the future, Dana and Jeff felt more than relieved and grateful. The couple owed all these to the kindness they received. They also made a promise to pay it forward by helping others in need.

【答案】“You cannot put them back out in the snowstorm,” she said. “Bring them home.” Gus nodded in agreement. When he arrived home, the beagles seemed relieved to be in a warm place. Katie welcomed them with open arms. She prepared a cozy corner for them with blankets and food. The beagles, Pepper and Cooper, wagged their tails gratefully. That night, as the snow continued to fall outside, they found comfort and safety in their new temporary home.
Already having a family dog, Gus phoned a nearby animal welfare center the next day. The staff at the center promised to take in the beagles and find them suitable forever homes. Soon, they arrived to pick up Pepper and Cooper. Gus and Katie were a bit sad to see them go but knew it was for the best. As the beagles were led away, they looked back as if to say thank you. With hope in their hearts, Gus and Katie knew that these abandoned dogs would soon find the love and care they deserved.

And then he heard a terrible sound: the bells signaling an oncoming train. DiPinto’s heart froze in his chest as he realized the upcoming danger. Without any delay, he rushed towards Janice’s car. After quickly assessing the situation, despite the huge potential risk, DiPinto swiftly smashed open the car’s window with his big professional flashlight, swung open the door and mightily pulled Janice out of the vehicle before it was too late. The speeding train was roaring towards the car like a monster in times of crisis.
The heavy train, traveling at 65 miles per hour, crashed into the car. With a loud bang, the car was knocked off. Some flying debris shooting in all directions, DiPinto instinctively protected Janice from being hurt again with his own body. Fortunately, they both narrowly escaped! DiPinto calmly dialed 911 and it didn’t take long before Janice was rushed to hospital. Thanks to DiPinto’s heroic rescue, Janice had a near brush with death. Afterward, DiPinto was reported and awarded “A Hero in Pajamas” to honor his fearless and selfless actions.

【答案】范文
Inspired by the experience, my friend and I wanted to join the group regularly. We both realized that cycling not only provided us with a great workout but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and accomplishment. Each time we pedaled alongside the seasoned cyclists, their dedication and enthusiasm fueled our own determination to improve. As we became more familiar with the group, we were welcomed warmly and even started to offer advice and encouragement to new members, just as the team leader had done for us.
Over time, cycling has become more than just an exercise for us. It has transformed into a passion that we share, a way to unwind from the stresses of school and life, and a means to connect with nature and our community. But more importantly, cycling has taught us valuable life lessons about perseverance, teamwork, and the joy of achieving goals. It’s become a symbol of our growth and a reminder that with hard work and dedication, anything is possible.

I was sick of these.Howl wished I could also have a rich parents like my classmates. Thinking about these things, I was quite dissatisfied with my mother. I even didn’t want her to pick me up.So I didn’t say a word with her and sat on the bike silently.
Paragraph 2:
Mom tried to cover me with the back of the raincoat again as a storm set in. She also didn’t say a word with me. She just wanted to make sure that I didn’t get wet. She seemed to know What I felt. So She just wanted to comfort me and gave me the warmth and love She could give me. Thinking about these, my eyes was filled with tears. I didn’t feel uneased, but was full of greatness for the best she tried to give me.

【答案】 I started the car and my family started to fight against the mosquitoes. Jeannie began methodically clapping the mosquitoes between her hands. Amy took charge of the back seat crew and attacked the mosquitoes happily. Jennifer also successfully trapped some with her hat. Jon laughed, determined to keep up with his sisters. Jeannie began announcing each one she vanquished. “One, two, three, ” she counted off. The kids joined in, the number of victories growing rapidly. “Nine, ten, eleven.”
As their voices of victory continued, I became totally alert. The effect was better than drinking a cup of coffee. “Fifteen!”Clap. “Sixteen!” I laughed at how excited they had become. Only at 39, when the last mosquito was taken care of, did things settle down. By the time I pulled into our driveway, Jeannie and the kids were sound asleep again, the car blissfully silent. I paused for a moment to reflect on the last leg of the trip and smiled.

【答案】Apparently, several nurses had received criticism. They all felt very upset until one of them, or possibly one of my doctors, explained to the officer that the small animals were gifts from a very sick child- patient and that it not only made the patient smile to see them proudly wearing them on their badges, but it made the other patients smile as well. It was eventually decided that they could keep them hanging on their badges when they interacted with child- patients.
After that, I continued to make different animals with beads. And more nurses and doctors asked for the lovely presents. They kept hanging them on their badges when I saw them, which made the hospital full of smile. Soon I got recovered from the disease. I thought the story ended as I got released from the hospital but it turned out to be beyond my imagination. When I was visiting someone in the hospital about six months later, I was moved to see all of the nurses still had the bead animals hanging on their badges.

She approached, handing the scarf to him.
“For me?” the man asked, his eyes widened with surprise.
“Yes! I thought it might help with the cold,” Emma said, her breath visible in the cold air.

【答案】
The man wrapped the scarf around his neck, instantly feeling a bit warmer. “Thank you. You are an angel, “ he murmured, a glimmer of smile coming to his dry lips. He grabbed the scarf tightly, his eyes shining with happy tears. In that moment, Emma realized what she presented was not just a scarf but also a sign of hope. Inspired, she determined to bring that spark of hope to more people. An idea suddenly popped into her head that she could set up a knitting club to bring more warmth to those in need. Then Emma waved him goodbye and hurried to school, her heart light and warm.
Led by Emma, Knits for Hope Club was started in her school. Her classmates expressed their willingness to do their part. With the passage of time, the club grew in numbers and enthusiasm. By the end of winter, Knits for Hope had distributed more than two hundred hand-knitted items, warming numerous bodies and hearts. Through their needles, they had knitted a blanket of community, compassion, and warmth that enveloped everyone. Never did Emma realize the impact of her small gesture. It wasn’t about the scarves or hats; it was about weaving kindness into the fabric of society, showing that even the smallest acts can create the warmest changes.

【答案】Possible version:
As I stood in the house, my eye was drawn to a big yellowed envelope with two words “FROMARMY” on it. Driven by a heartstring tremor, I opened it to find a letter from my father during his military days. His familiar handwriting depicted him as talkative and homesick, which contrasted with my memory of him. Realizing he missed me as much, I silently resolved to keep it, as the house gained new significance.
I pulled out my telephone and made a call to that buyer. With guilt, I expressed my sorry for not willing to sell the house anymore and made explanations. Fortunately, he kindly understood, mentioning the house’s charm and hope for reliving the past. Gratefully, I hung up and placed back the yellow letter that changed everything. Sunlight revealed the house’s history and memories; my father’s presence warmed my heart, prompting me to bring my sons here to share family stories and assure them their grandpa lives on.

【答案】 “Jon, it’s almost 5:00 pm and you need to call back as soon as possible,” I reminded in the afternoon. Jon took a deep breath and made the call. I could hear his voice trembling as he spoke to the person on the other end. After a few minutes, he hung up the phone and looked at me with a huge smile on his face. “Mom, I got the job!” he shouted.
I tried to pretend like I hadn’t known what he said on the phone, but I’m not that good of an actress. I couldn’t hide my excitement and hugged him tightly. “I’m so proud of you, Jon.

【答案】Passage 1
Returning to the pond, Kyle extended the branch toward Sam and Anthony. Eyeing the life-saving branch, the two boys shivering in the piercingly cold water struggled to grip it with the only belief of survival lingering in mind. The moment they grasped the dried-out branch, it was broken from the middle, leaving the poor boys sink into overwhelming depression again. Kyle hurriedly scanned the area for another potential tool but in vain. Anxious but still composed, he urged the crying peers to stop moving madly or the freezing water would consume all their strength more quickly.
Meanwhile, nearby residents also arrived at the scene. Learning about the emergency, they had brought some necessary life preservers. Two of them dressed in life jacket jumped into the water immediately to give the boys a lift while a long rope was threw at them. Lifted up above the water, two boys grasped the floating rope tightly. With joint efforts, they survived such a terrifying accident. The rescued were being attended to while others heaved a sign of relief. The incident served as a wake-up call that venturing onto frozen bodies of water in winter could be that dangerous.Passage 2:
Returning to the pond, Kyle extended the branch toward Sam and Anthony. With all his might, he reached out, hoping to grasp their hands and pull them to safety. Sam, struggling to keep his head above water, managed to catch hold of the branch, his grip tight with desperation. Anthony, further away and struggling harder, struggled to reach, but Kyle’s quick thinking led him to maneuver the branch closer. With a great heave, Anthony too was able to cling onto the makeshift lifeline. Inch by inch, Kyle pulled them both towards the solid ice, their shivering bodies testament to their close brush with death.
Meanwhile, nearby residents also arrived at the scene. They brought ropes, blankets, and a sense of urgency that bolstered Kyle’s efforts. Together, they secured the ropes around the boys, ensuring a steady and secure lift from the frigid water. Logan and Jackson, returning with a few adults, added their strength to the rescue, pulling with all their might. As the boys were hauled onto dry land, cheers erupted from the bystanders. The rescued boys lay on the ground, wrapped in blankets, their teeth chattering uncontrollably, but alive and grateful. The residents quickly called for an ambulance, ensuring that the boys received medical attention for hypothermia. The incident served as a stark reminder of the dangers of ice skating on unfrozen ponds, but also highlighted the power of community in times of crisis. Passage 3:
Returning to the pond, Kyle extended the branch toward Sam and Anthony. With steady determination, he urged them to grasp it. Sam, though shivering uncontrollably, managed to secure a hold, while Anthony, with a desperate lunge, caught the end. Kyle strained, using all his strength to pull them towards safety. Inch by inch, they closed the distance, and soon both boys were pulled onto the solid ground, where they lay panting, grateful for their second chance.
Meanwhile, nearby residents arrived, bringing blankets and a sense of calm. They wrapped the shivering boys in warmth and called for an ambulance. The adults worked efficiently, ensuring that Sam and Anthony were stabilized before the medical team arrived. The boys’ friends stood by, their relief mingling with gratitude for the community’s quick response. As the emergency services took charge, the group realized the true value of friendship, bravery, and the strength of a united community in the face of adversity.Passage 4:
Returning to the pond, Kyle extended the branch toward Sam and Anthony. With a determined look, he carefully maneuvered the branch towards them, encouraging them to grab hold. Sam, his teeth chattering, managed to latch onto the branch, while Anthony, with a final burst of strength, reached out and clutched it tightly. Kyle, straining with effort, slowly pulled them towards the shore, where they collapsed, exhausted but relieved.
Meanwhile, nearby residents arrived at the scene, bringing with them a sense of calm amidst the chaos. They wrapped the shivering boys in blankets, offering words of comfort and reassurance. Emergency responders soon followed, taking over the rescue operation and ensuring that Sam and Anthony received prompt medical attention. The boys’ parents, notified of the incident, rushed to the scene, grateful for the bravery of their sons’ friends and the quick actions of the community. As the day drew to a close, the boys and their families shared a moment of gratitude, knowing that their bond had been strengthened by this unexpected ordeal.

Gradually, Emily’s confidence grew with Mr. Jenkins’ help. She found herself approaching math problems with a newfound curiosity instead of anxiety. The once confusing numbers and symbols began to become patterns she could understand. Mr. Jenkins continued to teach her in his unique way. Emily started to enjoy the challenge, and her once hesitant hand now moved steadily across the paper. The joy she felt when a solution clicked into place was something she had never expected to experience with math.
Emily’s heart raced when the results day arrived. She sat in the classroom, her hands trembling slightly as she received her test paper. Her eyes widened in disbelief as she saw the grade – a solid A. Tears of relief and happiness welled up in her eyes. She looked up at Mr. Jenkins, who stood at the back of the classroom, watching her with a proud smile. In that moment, Emily knew that she had not only conquered her fear of math but also discovered the power of perseverance.

Before long, it was time to begin our show. Fighting back our nerves, we stepped on to the stage and began our performance. Thanks to our thorough practice, our first song was almost flawless, but to our disappointment, there was no applause. Determined to connect with our audience, we pushed ourselves beyond our limits, pouring all our energy into our music. However, when each song came to an end, all we could see was stillness, silence, and vacant eyes staring blankly from an ocean of expressionless faces. It was heartbreaking and emotionally draining. Finally, unable to bear it any longer, we stormed off the stage, with angry thoughts and frustration bouncing around our heads.
“Don’t go! You don’t understand — they love your performance!” shouted the director, who rose up from her seat.He went on to explain that instead of failing to understand our performance with unique African style, the audience were unable to express their appreciation in a normal way due to their injuries and disabilities. He asked us to observe their faces closely. All at once, I had a moment of clarity. It was as if a light bulb had flickered on in my mind, and understanding dawned on my face. As I looked around, I saw the patients trembling with emotion, their eyes moistened with tears. It filled me with regret. Without hesitation, we continued with our performance. That night, we came to understand that no matter where we came from and who we were, music had the remarkable ability to connect us all. It had a unique power to touch the hearts of those lost in loneliness.

【答案】Looking at the half-weaved sweater,Maya got an idea. “Mom,” Maya exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with excitement, “why don’t we make the cloak and scarf ourselves?” Sarah was more than delighted at her daughter’s proposal. She would put aside the sweater she was weaving and set out to weave a scarf similar to Hermione’s. Maya took the task of making the cloak. She had learned something about sewing at school. They found a DIY instruction video for a cloak online and used leftover cloth from a project Sarah had finished.
Over the following days, Maya was making her cloak while Sarah was weaving the scarf. Sarah was experienced at weaving so the scarf weaving went smoothly. The brown and gold stripes scarf was in sight. As for the cloak, although following the video instructions, Maya found it not that seemingly easy. Nevertheless, with great passion and patience, Maya did it eventually. On the long expected night, wearing Hermione’s costume, especially the hand-made scarf and cloak, Maya felt a surge of warmth and pride, ready to embrace the magical evening ahead. “You are brilliant like a real Hermione,” Sarah smiled at her daughter.

Hooray!
The next morning, when he skated up to Ruby on one foot, she stared in amazement.“ Max, you are magic!” Thrill$$
