专题04 阅读理解之说明文 Passage1(23-24九年级上·浙江温州·期中) Imagine turning on the GPS and seeing an image of your car from above. As the car drives, the map follows along in real time, alerting you to any traffic, walkers, animals, or other things nearby. Routes and names of roads appear over the livestream. It’s like the map has come to life. The special map is called the live map. This type of map isn’t available yet. But it could be soon. In 2014, the Worldview-3 satellite was sent into space. Even though it moves around Earth at more than 370 miles (600 km) away, it can catch images of objects on Earth that are just 10 inches (25 cm) across. For example, it can recognize a smartphone held in your hand. It can tell what types of cars are traveling down a road. But it can’t identify your face or read the cars’ license plate numbers... at least not openly. According to some reports, some other US spy satellites can take even sharper images, with a resolution of up to around 4 inches (10 cm). But US law doesn’t allow making these super-sharp pictures public. But the idea that anybody might be able to spy on the entire Earth in such detail may seem uneasy. Ray Purdy of University College London told CNN that he was worried about what this could mean for privacy. “Most satellites are commercially owned, so if you have money you can buy that image. It means anyone can spy on anyone,” he said. However, live and detailed maps of Earth’s surface could aid humanity in amazing ways. Satellite images can help professors follow storms as they form and record their paths. At high detail, live maps of a disaster area could quickly show the people in need of help as well as the safest routes in or out. Higher detail may make it possible to catch people who are fishing or hunting illegally. The images could also make it easier for farmers to watch over their crops. Do you wish everyone could make use of high-detail live maps of Earth’s surface? 1.A live map can ________. A.take control of your cars B.get animals out of the way C.warn you of walkers nearby D.come to life when turned on 2.Which of the statements is TRUE about the Worldview-3 satellite? A.It flies around Earth 600 km every hour. B.It can take pictures of things about 25 cm wide. C.It can read plate numbers of the cars on the road. D.It began to work in space more than 10 years ago. 3.The underlined word “sharper” probably means ________. A.clearer B.longer C.quicker D.simpler 4.How does the author introduce the live map in Paragraph 3 and 4? A.By comparing the new live map with the old map. B.By introducing its advantages and people’s worries. C.By showing different experiences of using the live map. D.By interviewing a professor in University College London. Passage2(23-24九年级上·浙江温州·期中) It’s OK to say you’ve never heard of grime—unless you’re from the UK. That’s because this music was invented in the UK in the early 2000s. To someone who’s not familiar with underground music, it’s easy to get confused* about hiphop and grime since they are both noisy. And many people didn’t try to tell them apart, until earlier this month when grime singers like Stormzy and J Hus led this year’s MOBO Awards—“Music of Black Origin”—nominations* in the UK. Grime drew influence from UK electronic music and hiphop, and it mostly shows the thoughts of young people. But different from hiphop, grime singers sing in dialects* with strong accents*, making their songs special. Lady Leshurr, known as the “Queen of Grime”, said that she once tried to hide her accent, as she didn’t want people to judge her. But one day, she realized that she didn’t need to change herself just to please others. And there’s no doubt that this is the most basic and important thing of grime music: be yourself. “Also different from the hiphop style, which usually focuses on being rich, grime singers pay more attention to social issues* like the gap between the rich and poor.” Mykaell Riley, the director of the black music research unit told the BBC. Although still quite young, grime seems to be loved by more and more people. In 2016, the English grime artist Skepta won the Mercury Prize with his album Konnichiwa, beating the famous rock music singers David Bowie and Radiohead. However, no matter whether grime is one day accepted by the mainstream music world or not, one thing is for sure: in grime, singers always stay true to themselves. 5.The underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 refers to ________. A.the rock B.grime C.hip-hop D.electronic music 6.Which of the following is famous for grime music? A.Lady Leshurr B.Radiohead C.David Bowie D.Mykaell Riley 7.Grime music is different from other kinds of music because ________. A.it is the most basic and important kind of music B.it shows the thoughts of young people and pleases others C.it has been accepted by the mainstream music world D.it is sung in dialects and focuses on social issues 8.The author mentions the success of Skepta to show that ________. A.rock music is not popular any more B.grime is still a quite young music type C.grime is getting more and more popular D.grime singers always stay true to themselves Passage3(23-24九年级上·浙江·期中) Whether yellow, red or white, the onion is a vegetable that you may not know well. The list of uses in cooking for it is endless. People have used onions to add flavor (味道) to their foods for thousands of years. Besides onions’ great taste, they are very good for you. They have special chemicals (化学物质) that improve your ability to fight off sickness and you have fewer chances of getting a disease. No matter how good onions are for you, it is difficult to cut an onion without your eyes filling with tears! When you cut into an onion, irritating chemicals inside the onion will get into the air. They touch your whole eves and cause pain. Your eyes make tears to wash away the chemicals and protect your eyes. Luckily, cooks and scientists have discovered some ways to keep you from crying when you cut up onions: ●Cut the onion under running water. The water will wash away the chemicals before they can reach your eyes. ●Use a fan to blow air over the onion as you cut it. The air will blow the chemicals away from your eyes. ●Put the onion in a fridge for an hour before cutting. This helps make the chemicals in the onion move slowly, so they may not ever reach your eyes. If you try out these good ideas and still cry while cutting onions, don’t worry. Scientists think if you cut more onions, your body will become more resilient to the onion’s chemicals. So the tears will not last long. If you think about how healthy onions are, you might even call those tears “happy tears”. 9.Why can onions help you fight off sickness? A.Because they have different colors. A paper in Nature reports that good mindset (思维模式) exercise improved the way that young people thought about stressful events. The exercise is based on two mindset: first, ability can be changed and improved with hard work and support; second, body responses (反应) to stress can be helpful. As students do mindset exercise by themselves, they will understand how the brain builds on experience and how the body uses stress—a fast-beating heart sends more blood to the brain to help you think. The exercise also asks students to write about what they might do differently in a stressful situations next time. Researchers invited thousands of students to take the exercise. The results show that this exercise is able to change our understanding of the world and our responses to it. Students who took part in the exercise thought about stress differently. They turn it into a way of energizing the motivation (激活动力) to achieve a goal. Also, the exercise changed their body responses for the better, preparing the body to respond to events as a challenge. “Difficulty and struggle are your friends.” says one of the researchers. “Those experiences don’t feel good at the moment. But if we want to be excellent, that’s what we have to experience.” The exercise could be put into further use. It could be especially made for players or office workers in the future. Once it has been fully tested, the exercise could be ready for use in high schools and colleges nationwide. The researchers says, “Our studies suggest that we might not teach young people that they are too weak to get over difficulties, instead, we should provide them with resources and guidance so that young people can show their skills and creativity in dealing with big problems.” 13.According to Para. 2, what may the mindset exercise help you? In September 2021, researchers at Purdue University in the US, had invented a paint that received a Guinness World Records for being the whitest in the world. But that isn’t the paint’s only special quality (特征). The paint is developed by professor Xiulin Ruan and his team. It is so white that it could reduce (减少) the need for air conditioners. It works through a cooling technology that offers great promises to reduce space cooling cost and global (全球的) warming. “When we started this project seven years ago, we had saved energy and fought climate (气候) change in mind.” Ruan said in This Is Purdue. They wanted to invent a paint that would reflect (反射) sunlight away from a building, largely reducing the need for air conditioners. In a report written by Ruan’s team, the researchers explain the white paint reflects up to 98.1% of sunlight, and sends infrared heat (红外线热) away from its surface (表面) at the same time. The paint takes in less heat from the sun than it gives out, so the outside of an object covered with this paint is cooled below surrounding (周围的) temperature without so much air conditioning. However, other paints get warmer rather than cooler. They reflect only 80%-90% of sunlight and do not have special qualities to make the outside of objects cooler than their surroundings. “If you were to use this paint to cover a roof (屋顶) area of about 1,000 square feet, we think that you could get a cooling power of 10 kilowatts. That’s more powerful than the central air conditioners used by most houses, ”Ruan told in This Is Purdue. In other words, ______. The paint will probably help buildings depend less on air conditioning systems that are the cause of a part of the global warming. You can’t buy the paint just yet, but researchers are working with a company to put the paint on the market. Someday we could cool our homes simply by painting our roofs with the whitest paint and it could help fight against climate change. 21.What is known about the paint? A.It has different colors. B.It uses heating technology. C.It is friendly to environment. D.It doesn’t cost much money. 22.What does the paint do to the objects with it? A.It makes the objects warm. B.It cools the surface of the objects. C.The objects reflect half of sunlight. D.The objects take in infrared heat. 23.Which of the sentences below can be put into ______ in paragraph 4? A.it’s much cheaper to use this paint than air conditioners B.using air conditioners too much can cause global warming C.scientists need to improve this paint to solve more problems D.this paint could take the place of air conditioners in some places 24.What is the main purpose of the passage? A.To introduce a special paint. B.To advise people to cool homes. C.To tell the use of air conditioners. D.To share reasons of climate change. Passage7(23-24九年级上·浙江温州·期中) A different kind of school in Pakistan is giving poor children, and even their mothers and grandmothers, a new chance to get an education (教育). The programme is called Street to School. It is a way to keep these children off the streets, while providing them with a basic education and useful life skills. Organizers started it in 2014 to set up a school for children who played on the streets every day while their parents were working. Mohammad Hassan, the founder of the programme, says children who spend all day on the streets are in danger of catching dangerous illnesses and could also be caught up in crime (犯罪). This programme centers on reading, writing and maths. Students are also taught English as well as the local language, Urdu. Street to School also includes sports activities and provides students with information on how to stay healthy and take care of themselves. Street to School managed to get children off the streets. Passage9(23-24九年级上·浙江衢州·期中) When we meet someone for the first time, we usually get a little sense of what kind of person he or she is by the way he or she shakes hands, talks, or walks. In the age of social networking, however, first impressions (印象) are sometimes made even before we meet someone in person — that is, by looking at their profile photos (头像). According to a recent study, these profile photos say a lot about people’s personality (个性). For example, outgoing people are more likely to pose in an unusual way and use things such as glasses or a guitar in their profile photos because they enjoy new and exciting experiences. However, neurotic (神经质的) people often hold back their bad feelings. They try to avoid showing their faces. So they often use something like a pet, a car or a building. “The colors used in them also give us some information about the photos’ owners. For example, outgoing people were found to have the most colorful profile photos, as they want to show themselves off.” the researchers wrote. “Although social media photos usually mean an extension (延伸) of oneself, they also allow a user to show his or her own personality and how perfect they can be,” according to the researchers. So, when choosing a profile photo, maybe we should ask ourselves first what kind of photo we’d like to show. After all, first impressions always last. 33.In social networking, we can know what kind of person someone is by ________. A.the way he or she shakes hands B.taking a look at his or her profile photo C.talking or walking with him or her D.asking his or her friends for some information 34.If Steve is outgoing, which profile photo would he like to choose? A.The first impression will last forever. B.Outgoing people are different from neurotic ones. C.We should be careful when we use the profile photos. D.Our profile photo shows what kind of persons we are. Passage10(23-24九年级上·浙江杭州·期中) ①We usually think that garbage is dirty and useless. However, an art exhibition (展览) in 2022 proves that “useless” things can actually be helpful. ②Dear Pretty Rubbish, an art event organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWFN) and digital media art company Blackbow, was held in Beijing. It asked questions about the relationship between our lifestyles and our garbage. ③“We hope that everyone who visited the show can think about how ‘useless things’ are produced, why they are tossed out and whether ‘useless things’ are really useless.” said Cao Yujia, the design director at Blackbow. ④The organizers said that all the raw materials for the exhibition were collected from community garbage cans. ⑤Artists Zhou Yuxuan and Liu Yifan collected nylon cable ties (尼龙扎带), LED lights and drink bottles from designers’ workshops to create a work where plastics, in the shape of cells, “grow” in a corner. There, the lights blink (闪烁) to imitate (模仿) “breathing”. When people walk near it, the work forms light patterns, as if communicating with the visitors. Speaking about the work, Zhou said, “It’s like some kind of communication between humans and plastics.” ⑥Plastic has a life longer than almost any creature, taking centuries to break down. Though people blame plastics for damage (伤害) to the environment, they are a big part of our daily lives. ⑦“So we want to ask the question: Although the damage continues, is there a way for humans to reconcile (和解) with plastics?” said Zhou. 37.What is the purpose of “Dear Pretty Rubbish”? When you see someone yawn, you yawn, too. ③Many people say they yawn because they are bored or tired. That might be true. People do often yawn before they sleep and after they wake up. However, we know that people also yawn when they are excited or nervous. Olympic runners, for example, often yawn before a race. Why is that? In 2007, scientists noticed that a yawn could help a warm brain cool down. ④Some scientists believe that yawning makes you notice things more quickly. When you yawn, you breathe deeply. You also stretch(拉紧) the muscles(肌肉) in your face, mouth, and neck. Your eardrums stretch, too. Maybe this helps you to be quicker to notice things. ⑤In some countries, people think yawning is not nice. People put their hands over their mouths to cover a yawn. In other countries, people think yawning is healthy. They think that opening the mouth very big can let good things in. Passage14(23-24九年级上·浙江丽水·期中) We hear a lot about how we should change our lives to help save our planet. Jim Barnes, 15, from Oxford, talks about what his family does every day to save the planet. A common UK family produces more than one ton of rubbish a year. Some of this waste takes hundreds of years to decay. We also spend lots of money buying new things to replace the things we throw away. So to help save the planet and save money, our family has decided to recycle everything. We collect used things, such as paper and bottles, and put them into different bins. After they are treated in the recycling place they can be used again. This will help reduce (减少) a lot of waste. We’re also going to grow our own vegetables and we already keep hens. Soon, we can eat our own eggs for breakfast. In a year, a family like ours uses about 4,800 kWh (4,800度电) for watching television, taking showers, using the dishwasher and the washing machine, and more. This is a lot. To produce this much energy, a lot of pollution is created. This pollution can cause health problems and global warming. Because of all this, ▲ . We stopped using the dishwasher. We watch less TV and use low energy light bulbs now. Mom also tries to save energy while cooking. What’s more, we try to use our car less to cut down on air pollution. My dad organizes a car pool (拼车) with our neighbors and they take turns driving to work. And I ride my bicycle to school. How cool is that?! 52.What is the passage mainly about? A.Because they live in the countryside. B.Because it’s fun to go to work together. C.Because he wants to cut down on air pollution. D.Because he thinks it’s a good way to help each other. Passage15(23-24九年级上·浙江温州·期中) In a world where technology is king, it is getting more and more difficult to keep up with the ‘R’s— VR. AR, MR, (iPhone) XR and the list goes on. Many people have trouble telling the differences between augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) . AR and VR mean that we experience something that isn’t there, but it feels like it is. As a result, it is easy for users to be blown away and wonder what is real and what is not. In short, at the heart of AR and VR are two very similar technologies. Both offer experiences to users, most widely used in areas such as online shopping and as part of psychological treatments. _______ The main difference lies in the way of transport. Simply put, VR ‘transports’ the user to another world instead of the real one. It uses computer technology to create a 3D environment. Users not only view a screen in front of them, but also use as many senses as possible, such as vision, hearing, touch, even smell. VR is used widely in many theme parks, like Disneyland. Imagine opening your eyes and seeing a new world created by the computer all around you; you can move in this environment and even communicate with it. That’s what VR is like. For example, VR has the power to make users feel as if they are falling. So sometimes while playing games, users become nervous and even scared. AR, does not shut out the real world, but adds digital graphics to a live view often by using the camera on a smartphone. Users would not be ‘transported’ to another world but instead, they would see graphics created by computers with what they see in real life. AR makes it possible to create many interesting apps, such as the navigation. It does not, change the whole view of what users see. unlike VR. Thanks to new technology and successful games, AR and VR users already have a lot of choices. AR and VR are both powerful technologies which are still relatively new to many users. However, they have already begun to shake things up in the gaming world. The worlds of AR and VR aren’t just here: they’re getting bigger and better by the day. 56.Both AR and VR _______. A.are only used in online shopping B.improve psychological treatments C.create unreal environments for users D.let users experience something already there 57.Which of the following can be put in the _______ in Paragraph 3? A.In a way, AR and VR create different worlds for users. B.Besides, AR and VR will be widely used in different areas. C.What’s more, AR and VR offer their users different games. D.However, AR and VR can be quite different in many ways. 58.Who is using the technology of AR? A. B. C. D. 59.Which is the best title for the passage? A.Technology is king. B.Thanks to technology. C.Get close to AR and VR. D.The development of AR and VR. Passage16(23-24九年级上·浙江温州·期中) “Am I an ‘I’ person or an ‘E’ person?” It is a popular topic among young people around China today. Many people are crazy about it so that they take a personality test named Myers-Briggs test to find out the answer. Many people find the MBTI (Myers-Briggs Test Indicator) useful. It groups people into 16 types, which start with the letter “I” or “E”, such as “ENTJ, INFP” or more. “E” is short for “Extroversion” while “I” is for “Introversion”. “I’m an ‘E’ person. I should go to the party and make more friends. ” “I’m an ‘I’ person. I’d like to work by myself. I could be a writer in the future. ” They believe different types can help them make decisions for activities, jobs or even life choices more quickly. But there are also problems. Some people take the test for a second time and get different results. Some people find it hard to answer some questions. “I like watching TV by myself. But I also enjoy playing with friends. Am I an ‘I’ or an ‘E’? ” When you take a personality test, you may think, “Oh, that’s me.” That’s because the descriptions are generic. They can be used to describe many people. Research has found that over 50% of people get a different score when they retook the MBTI just five weeks later. Personalities can change with time, and they are not black-or-white, scientists say. You may be introverted now but become extroverted when you get older. Or, you can be both an “I” and an “E”. Don’t label yourself! Studies have also shown that the test is not real at telling people’s success in different jobs. So, don’t take it too seriously. 60.MBTI is a test _______. A.without a hot topic B.with the same answer C.about young people in China D.for your personality type 61.If you are an “E” person, you may _______. A.like to read books in the library on vacation B.like to cook simple meals at home on weekends C.like to watch movies with a pet dog on Friday night D.like to celebrate different festivals with different people 62.What does the underlined word “generic” probably mean? A.common B.special C.clear D.simple 63.Why does the author write the passage? A.To introduce what MBTI is. B.To tell whether MBTI is useful. C.To explain how people use MBTI. D.To list how many people use MBTI. Passage17(23-24九年级上·浙江绍兴·期中)    Whether yellow , red or white , the onion is a vegetable that you may not know well. The list of its uses in cooking is endless. People have used onions to add flavor(味道) to their foods for thousands of years. Besides onions ‘ great taste, they are very good for you. They have special chemicals (化学物质) that improve your ability to fight off sickness and you have fewer chances of getting a disease. No matter how good onions are for you , it is difficult to cut an onion without your eyes filling with tears ! When you cut into an onion , irritating (刺激性的) chemicals inside the onion will get into the air. They touch your whole eyes and cause pain. Your eyes make tears to wash away the chemicals and protect your eyes. Luckily , cooks and scientists have discovered some ways to keep you from crying when you cut up onions : ● Cut the onion under running water. The water will wash away the chemicals before they can reach your eyes. ●Use a fan to blow air over the onion as you cut it. The air will blow the chemicals away from your eyes. ● Put the onion in a fridge for an hour before cutting. This helps make the chemicals in the onion move slowly , so they may not ever reach your eyes. If you try out these good ideas and still cry while cutting onions , don’t worry. Scientists think if you cut more onions , your body will become more resilient to the onion’s chemicals. So the tears will not last long. If you think about how healthy onions are , you might even call those tears “ happy tears ”. 64.Onions can help you fight off sickness because they have________. A.different colors B.many uses in cooking C.great taste D.special chemicals 65.What can you do to stop crying according to the text ? ① Cut the onion under running water. ② Use a fan to blow air over the onion while cutting. ③ Cover the onion with a piece of cloth as you cut it. ④ Put the onion in a fridge for an hour before cutting. A.Life and health. B.Language and culture. C.Business world. D.National news. Passage18(23-24九年级上·浙江·期中) You may see some herons(鹭) in the park using bread or insects as a tool to catch fish. This is just one of the ways in which birds have changed their living habits because of humans’ activities. Now, a new study has found that birds that are able to change their behaviors(行为) in this way are less likely to die out. These changes may include adding new food to their diet, developing new hunting skills, or living in a new environment. Scientists studied reports of new behaviors among different kinds of birds around the world. The study includes more than 3,800 new behaviors among 8,600 kinds of birds. They discovered that the more new hunting skills the birds learn, the larger population they will have. However, scientists also found that innovation(革新) can only protect birds from changes in their living place, but not from over-hunting or the danger from other animals. For example, some animals are very dangerous to some birds: snakes can eat little birds; some hungry mice steal birds’ eggs. Above all, humans often mean the greatest danger to birds. They always take up too much space, cut down trees and even cause various kinds of pollution. This shows that, unlike what is usually believed, the ability of innovation protects animals from some but not all of the rapid changes in the environment. 68.According to Paragraph 1, birds’ changes of behaviors may not include ________. A.trying new food B.learning new hunting skills C.moving to a new place D.living with humans 69.Which of the following shows the result of the study in Paragraph 2? A. B. C. D. 70.Which paragraph shows the danger from other animals to birds? A.Paragraph 1. B.Paragraph 2. C.Paragraph 3. D.Paragraph 4. 71.What can we learn from the text? A.Humans often help birds to change themselves. B.Snakes and mice are the greatest danger to birds. C.Innovation in hunting skills has an influence on birds’ living. D.Scientists discovered some new kinds of birds in the world. Passage20(23-24九年级上·浙江宁波·期中) It happens every spring. Flowers come out everywhere on the same day. But how do plants “know” when to flower? For years, it has been a difficult question for scientists. But a US research group may have finally answered it—the secret lies in a protein(蛋白质) called FKF1. This helps plants to know when the days become long and when they get short. Then they can tell the seasons(季节) are changing. Researchers found the FKF1 protein when they were studying a plant called Arabidopsis. It is sensitive(敏感的) to sunlight, and can be made active by sunlight. Plants produce this protein every day in the late afternoon all year. If there is no light at this time, for example, in winter when the sun goes down early, the protein won’t be active. But when spring comes and the days get longer, the FKF1 protein can be made active by day light and the plants “know” it is time to flower. “If there is light in the late afternoon, plants will know that the days are getting longer and that it is the best time for flowers to come out,” explained Takato Imaizumi, leader of study. But when conditions are poor for growing, such as during autumn or winter when the weather is cold and days are short, plants won’ t flower. Although researchers have only studied how the FKF1 protein works in the Arabidopsis, they believe that it is the same with many other plants, including crops such as rice and wheat. “If we can control when flowers come out, we might be able to increase crop production,” Imaizumi said. 75.Scientists found the FKF1 protein when they were________ . A.answering a question B.controlling the colors of flowers C.planting flowers in the garden D.studying a plant called Arabidopsis 76.The best time for flowers to come out is when________ . A.it rains in spring B.there is light in the late afternoon C.it is getting dark D.the sun goes down early 77.Scientists believe that________ . A.other plants also know when to flowers B.flowers are more useful than fruits and vegetables C.people have known how to control when flowers come out D.if the weather is cold and days are short, plants will flower 78.The passage is mainly about ________ . A.how plants “know” when to flower B.what people can do with plants C.how seasons are changing D.what kind of plant Arabidopsis is Passage21(23-24九年级上·浙江杭州·期中) Each of us has dreams and goals for our future. What makes us study and make progress each day is closely connected with our personal dream and goal. But why do you have dreams and goals, you still end up with nothing? What differs successful people from the dreamers is their persistent (锲而不舍的) action. When you often find some of your lessons very hard, try and keep trying and you’ll be sure to successfully solve any difficulty you meet with. This is the famous formula (公式) for success: Dream > Believe > Achieve Most people have what they want (Dream) and think they can realize their dreams (Believe). And then they do nothing. They just imagine their dreams can come true. When they get tired waiting and lose a lot, they get bored. They say angrily how terrible their life is. I personally believe that if you really want to achieve your dreams and goals in life, you have to add one thing to your success formula: Dream > Believe> Act > Achieve For me, act is the most important thing for success and that’s to Take Persistent Action (Act). If you say, “I can’t do it” and give up, you can never do anything valuable. However, “I’ll try” creates wonders. Let’s remember that there will always be challenges in our lives. We must face them bravely and solve them. Success is not something that fells down from the sky. Most successful people made their dreams come true because of their persistent action. Please remember persistent action is the bridge that connects our dreams and goals to reality. 79.What should you do when you find your lessons very hard? A.Ask people for help. B.Try and keep trying. C.Get ready to create wonders. D.Prepare for a harder one. 80.Which does the writer add to the famous formula? A.Act. B.Achieve. C.Connect. D.Create. 81.What does the underlined word “them” refer to? A.Wonders. B.Lives. C.Success. D.Challenges. 82.What can we learn from the passage? A.We should do something valuable. B.We should study hard and make progress. C.We should achieve dreams with persistent action. D.We should separate successful people from dreams. Passage22(23-24九年级上·浙江杭州·期中) What is adolescence (青春期)? When does it start? It starts when you are aged between about ten and thirteen. Here are some changes about you during adolescence. You may not want to spend as much time with your parents as you used to. You want to do more things on your own. In the past, your parents made decisions for you. However, now you want to decide things for yourself and don’t want to be told what to do. All these changes are completely normal, but they will influence your relationship with your parents. So what can you do to make it better? Firstly, your parents will feel much better if you let them know that you still love them. Remember that they don’t have the small child you used to be. They may not say so, but they probably feel like something is missing. So try to show your love to them from time to time. Secondly, try to agree to rules. You may feel these rules are not necessary, but your parents just want to make sure you stay safe. Once you agree with the rules, try to follow them. Thirdly, try to understand why they feel upset about your behaviour (行为). Do your parents get cross if you spend three hours talking with friends and leave your homework till the last minute? That’s probably because they want you to do well at school. Finally, it’s all about communication! Keep talking to your parents, tell them about what you did today, let them know where you are going, and ask for advice if you need. 83.What does the writer think of the changes during adolescence? A.They can make teenagers' life easier and more interesting. B.They are very common and usually happen to teenagers. C.They can help you communicate better with your parents. D.They never influence the relationship between teenagers and parents. 84.What does the underlined part "get cross" mean? A.Be angry. B.Say sorry. C.Be glad. B.Reasons why parents are sometimes worried about us. C.Who makes decision for teenagers during adolescence. D.Ways to have a better relationship with parents during adolescence. Passage23(23-24九年级上·浙江杭州·期中) Kindness is necessary and important, and usually success lies in kindness. As parents and teachers, we also teach children from a young age to “be kind to one another” and “treat others the way you want to be treated.” Research has shown that kindness can not only help us to have a better relationship with others but also make it possible for us to live more happily. According to the Mayo Clinic, when we perform acts of kindness, the pleasure center in our brain becomes active, giving out the stress-reducing hormone(激素). That’s why a volunteer always says he will get a strong feeling of satisfaction after offering help. And what is even greater is that kindness seldom stops with just one person. People will also be glad to help others after they receive an act of kindness. Then here comes a question: Could kindness be harmful to us? Let’s think about it. You are the new person on the team and you want to be well-liked and respected by your teammates. You are a kind person and tell your team, “Let me know how I can help you; I’m always available to help.” Though you may truly mean this, there are unlucky people in this world who will regard your kindness as a weakness. This can lead to you being taken advantage of by others. What about a year later? You have been in your position now for one year, and you are working with the same team. You are noticing that your teammates continue asking for your help over and over again. In fact, the only time they communicate with you is when they need something. You have been helpful to your teammates but there has rarely been any return from them. In general, it is wonderful to be kind to others, and your kind acts will be appreciated and, perhaps, paid off. However, you need to be willing to say “no” when realizing that your plate is already too full. When people ask you a hand, think it over if you have the time, energy, and attention to give to them. To truly be kind, sometimes you need to be more comfortable saying “no” to others and saying “yes” to yourself. 87.What does the Mayo Clinic think of kindness? A.It does good to our mind. B.It adds stress to us. C.It adds years to people’s life. D.It makes people unlucky. 88.What might the new person feel one year later? A.Thankful. B.Lucky. C.Disappointed. D.Helpful. 89.What does the underlined part in the last paragraph mean? A.When you’re too full to eat anything. B.When you have too much food. C.When you need to ask for a hand. D.When you’re really busy and tired. 90.What can be the best title for the text? A.Say “No” to kindness! B.Are we tiring ourselves with kindness? C.Kindness is really important! D.Never fail to offer your kindness! Passage24(23-24九年级上·浙江台州·期中) ①With most people staying at home because of COVID-19, livestreaming(直播) has taken off. It is not only fun and interesting, but has also provided a new stage(舞台) for traditional culture artists. ②On video sites and apps such as Douyin and Bilibili, many traditional artists are trying livestreaming for the first time. Some of them sing Peking Opera, some show their hand-made products, while others perform classical Chinese music. ③Li Jun is a laosheng (old male role) Peking Opera performer with the Shanghai Jingju Theater Company. During the outbreak, the 59-year-old started livestreaming for the first time. Unlike performing on a formal stage, Li uses everyday places as his stage, including his backyard, study room, and even the kitchen. Besides singing, Li also teaches viewers about Peking Opera in a humorous way. ④People can ask him questions and get answers directly. “Livestreaming has brought this elegant(高雅的) art down to earth,” one viewer said. “It allows young people to get closer to this traditional art and learn more about it.” Up to now Li has more than 6,000 fans on Douyin, while one of his videos has received 42,000 views on Bilibili. ⑤Other kinds of artists also see livestreaming as a new opportunity. On March 26, the third China Huafu Day, Bilibili livestreamed a fashion show. Performers presented beautiful clothes in traditional Chinese styles, including those from the Wei (220-265), Tang (618-907) and Ming (1368-1644) dynasties. During the show, viewers not only enjoyed seeing the clothes but also watching how performers use ancient styles of make-up. For example, one blogger taught people how to draw the guiye eyebrow(桂叶眉) which was a typical make-up style during the Tang Dynasty. ⑥As Guangming Daily noted, livestreaming has created a new way in which traditional culture can be kept alive. 91.In his livestreaming, Li Jun ________. A.performs Peking Opera in a humorous way B.shows his viewers how to cook delicious food C.teaches foreigners the secret of Peking Opera D.communicates with his viewers directly about Peking Opera 92.How does the writer show Li Jun’s success in livestreaming? A.By using numbers. B.By comparing his present with his past. C.By listing reasons. D.By mentioning the money he made. 93.It can be inferred(推断) from the passage that ________. A.the ancient styles of make-up interest a lot of people B.the China Huafu Day leads the latest fashion in clothing C.the China Huafu Day shows many hand-made products D.the make-up style of the Tang Dynasty is becoming popular again 94.Which of the following shows the structure of the passage? (P=Paragraph) A. B. C. D. Passage25(23-24九年级上·浙江杭州·期中) What do you do when you want a cold drink? You probably get a drink from your icebox. But people did not have iceboxes before the early 1900s. How did they keep things cool before then? In the past, it was difficult to keep food cold. Warm food spoils quickly. People tried many different methods to keep things cold. They used to put food in cool small rivers or in large holes under the ground near their homes. They also stored food like vegetables and fruits in rooms under their houses. These rooms stayed cooler in warm months. However, none of these methods was perfect. What was a better way? Putting food on ice. In 1000 BCE, people in China collected ice and snow. Then they dug holes under their homes and filled them with the ice and snow. After that, they put their food in the holes. In many countries, people continued to do this for about 2, 000 years. There are a few problems with this method. First, ice and snow are not to be found everywhere. Second, ice turns into water when heated. An American businessman named Frederick Tudor solved these problems. He wanted to carry ice to hot places, such as the Caribbean. In the early 1800s, he sent a ship full of ice from Boston, Massachusetts, to the island of Martinique. Almost all of the ice turned into water. After that happened, Tudor realized that he had to find a way to keep the ice at 0℃ or below. He spent ten years working on the problem. Finally, he tried putting sawdust-very small pieces of wood-between the pieces of ice. It worked! Sawdust keeps ice at 0℃ or below for a longer period of time. People used to work hard to keep their food and drinks cold. Now, it’s much easier. The next time you want a cold drink, imagine your life without an icebox. 95.What does the underlined word spoils in paragraph 2 mean? A.Go bad. B.Become hotter. C.Taste delicious. D.Turn black. 96.Which of the following words best describe people in China in 1000 BCE? A.Hardworking. B.Creative. C.Lucky. D.Brave. 97.What is true about Tudor? A.Tudor was an American inventor. B.Tudor made money selling iceboxes. C.Tudor used sawdust to solve the problem. D.Tudor tried to send ice to Martinique by train. 98.Which of the following is the best title for the passage? A.How did we invent iceboxes? B.How did we keep things cool? C.How did Tudor carry ice to hot places? D.How did people in China store foods on ice? Passage26(23-24九年级上·浙江杭州·期中) People spend about a third of their lives sleeping. That might sound like time is wasted, but it’s not. Even in a deep sleep, the brain is busy. It’s hard at work sorting(整理)memories, cleansing itself of wastes and more. The time of rest also helps the body become stronger. That’s why experts suggest that teenagers get about nine hours of sleep each night. But surveys(调查)show that teenagers are getting less and less sleep. That’s a problem. It will make them feel tired and upset during the day and have difficulty dealing with stress. It’s hard to say exactly why teenagers have become more sleep-deprived(睡眠不足的),One reason may be school start times. As people go through puberty(青春期),they become natural night owls. Their bodies don’t produce the hormone melatonin—which tells the brain it’s time for bed—until later at night. Sleep usually comes most easily between 11 p. m. and 8 a. m. But most public middle and high schools start before 8 a. m. Another reason may be screens. A survey about 370, 000 American teenagers has shown an increase in trading(交换)sleep for screen time. What’s more, the light from phones, computers and other electronic devices makes the brain stop them from sleeping. That’s because the light has blue wavelengths also found in sunlight. This cheats the brain and makes it think it’s daytime. Research suggests that people who use screens in bed have a harder time going to sleep. New LED technology could reduce(降低)that influence. But in the meantime(与此同时),experts suggest putting away phones at least 30 minutes before bed. It might be hard to stop thinking about a lively group talk or a wonderful TV show, but turn off the phone and have a good sleep. Your body and brain will thank you. 99.What is the brain busy doing in a deep sleep? ①Having a good rest.             ②Dealing with memories. ③Making the body stronger.        ④Cleaning up its wastes. A.①② B.②③ C.②④ D.③④ 100.What does the underlined phrase “night owls” mean? A.People who always go to bed early. B.People who sleep with lots of dreams. C.People who enjoy staying up late at night. D.People who wake up several times during the night. 101.What are the third and fourth paragraphs mainly about? A.Why teenagers need more sleep. B.Why teenagers fail to get enough sleep. C.How screen time influences students’ life. D.What teenagers should do to get through puberty. 102.We can learn about ________ from the last paragraph. A.the way to improve sleep B.the time to use phones every day C.the development of LED technology D.the importance of staying away from screens Passage27(23-24九年级上·浙江杭州·期中) We spend most of our time with friends whom we like. Well, who would stay with a person one doesn’t like? What kind of people are welcomed by others, then? There are people that naturally attract you. By being with them just once, you start to like them. If you wonder why they attract people and want to be a person like them, you should learn how to develop the personalities that they have. Firstly, everybody wants to be happy, and nobody wants to spend their time with a sad person. Well, you see, there is what you call mood linkage. If you are with a jolly person, you are more probably to be happy. When people choose to spend time with a person, they are more likely to choose those who are cheerful. So if you are a happy person, many people will want to spend their time with you. Next, everybody needs someone to give encouragement to them, because sometimes in our lives we experience failure, sadness, problems and other bad things. So if you always choose to cheer others up with encouraging words or actions, they will be willing to spend time with you. Lastly, you are not a friend if you don’t lend a hand to your friends when they need help. You should always be helpful to them, no matter what it costs, because when you need help, they will be there for you, too. It feels good if people want to be your friends because of your character. So if you want to attract friends, I suggest you learn to develop these personalities. 103.The writer mentions all the following that attracts others, EXCEPT _________. It is the color of grass and the leaves on trees. It is the color of most growing plants, too. Sometimes, the word “green” means young, fresh and growing. Sometimes, it describes something that is not yet finished or plants that are not ripe. For example, a greenhorn is someone who has no experience, who is new to a situation. In the fifteenth century, a greenhorn was a young cow or ox whose horns had not yet developed. A century or so later, a greenhorn was a soldier who had not yet had any experience in war. By the eighteenth century, a greenhorn had the meaning it has today—a person who is new in a job. About one hundred years ago, greenhorn was a popular expression in the American west. Old-timers used it to describe a man who had just arrived from one of the big cities in the east. The greenhorn didn't have skills that he would need to live in the hard, rough country. Someone who has the ability to grow plants well is said to have a green thumb. The expression comes from the early nineteen hundreds. A person with a green thumb seems to have a magic touch that makes plants grow quickly and well. You might say that the woman next door has a green thumb if her garden continues to grow long after your plants have died. The Green Revolution is the name which was given some years ago to the development of new kinds of rice and other grains. The new plants produced much larger crops. The Green Revolution was the result of hard work by agricultural(农业的) scientists who had green thumb. 107.According to the passage, a greenhorn means ____________ now. A.a greenhorn B.a green thumb C.the Green Revolution D.the word “green” and its stories Passage29(23-24九年级上·浙江杭州·期中) No one knows when the first kite was made. The first record of a kite was more than 2,000 years ago in China. Han Xin, the leader of an army, wanted to bring down a king. He decided to dig a tunnel into the king’s palace. He flew a kite over the wall of the palace to make sure the length of its string. In this way, he could determine how long the tunnel should be. His men in the tunnel took the kite string with them. When they reached the end of the string, they knew to dig up. Kites have been flown in Japan for hundreds of years. In the 1700s, kites were flown in autumn to give thanks for a good harvest. They were also flown to send good wishes to couples who had their first son. Today in Japan, kites are often flown as part of a celebration, such as the beginning of a new year. And kite festivals are held each year in many parts of the country. Kites have been used for scientific purposes in the western world. In 1752, Benjamin Franklin tied a key to a kite and flew it in a storm to find out that lightening was a form of electricity. In the 1890s, Lawrence Hargrave invented the box kite to test ideas about flight. From 1898 until 1933, the United States Weather Bureau(气象局) used box kites to collect weather data. For centuries, it has been passed down from one generation to the next, especially from mothers to daughters. This beautiful art is used to decorate doors, windows, and beds in people’s homes, or at celebrations such as birthdays and New Year. The two main skills used are cutting the paper using a knife or scissors, or tearing(撕) it by hand. If the paper is cut, the edges are very smooth. Paper cutting can produce very fine work. This type of work is typical of southern China. If the paper is tom by hand, the edges are more simple and natural. Tearing is used more in northeast China. And different parts of China have their own motifs or pictures. These motifs can express many stories and ideas. It can be hard to hold on to traditions like these because young people don’t know much about traditional art. The experts are getting older. If young people don’t learn the traditions, they won’t be able to pass them down to their own children. But recently there is a change. There are more shows of traditional art. Artists are going into schools to teach children how to do paper cutting. Children enjoy working together with artists and talking to them about the meaning of their art. In this way, they are becoming proud of their culture and traditions. 115.The underlined word “motifs” in (Para. 2) is closest in meaning to “________”. Today most teenagers are at least one size larger than teens were 20 years ago. Even clothing sizes have changed. Did you know that a small today used to be a medium 20 years ago? A recent research shows 97% of teens need more exercise. It’s bad news because too little exercise means you are missing a lot of good things in life. Exercise helps in two ways. First, exercise helps your body. Physical activity can make your body strong. It can also help you stay at a healthy weight. Doctors say that people who stay at a healthy weight have fewer health problems. Second, exercise can help your mind. People who get plenty of physical activities might worry less and sleep better at night. You may even learn better in school. Students who are healthy can listen and understand better in class. You can change your life and be more active at any point. It’s never too late. An article called How to Limit Screen Time and Get Moving gives these ideas: Step away from the screen. Doctors call watching TV or playing video games screen time. You should have no more than two hours of screen time a day. You will enjoy life more if you leave it instead of watching it! Start slowly. An hour a day can seem like a long time. Start with 10 minutes of new activities every day. Add more as you get stronger. Think about walking. Take the stairs instead of the lift. You will feel healthier. Make fitness fun. Find a sport you like. It doesn’t need to be the traditional sports of basketball, soccer, or baseball. Those are all great sports and if you like them, play them. However, you can also try hiking, skateboarding, or even rope jumping. If you enjoy the sport, you will do it. Choose food carefully. Help your family shop for healthy food. Read the labels(标签). Look for healthy foods. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Stop buying soft drinks and junk food. You will feel better if you eat right. Exercise with others. Find a friend or family member to exercise or play with you. You will have more fun and it helps keep you responsible for going. 119.What can physical activities help us according to the passage? ① Be in better health.                ②Have better mind. ③Worry less and sleep better at night.        ④ Have more health problems. Passage32(23-24九年级上·浙江温州·期中) A Swiss radio station called Couleur 3 recently did an experiment on air, testing robot-created content and voicing. During the 13-hour experiment, listeners heard the cloned voices of five human presenters. The station’s programming also included music created by AI. The program told listeners about the experiment every 20 minutes like this, “AI is taking your favorite radio by storm,” a voice said. “AI is here to surprise and shake you. And for that matter, this text was also written by a robot.” The Swiss station’s director, Multone, said that Couleur 3 was able to do the experiment because it is already known for doing unusual things. He thought it as a lesson on how to live with AI. “I think if we become ostriches...we put our heads in the sand and say, ‘Multone, there’s a new technology! We’re all going to die!’ then yeah, we’re going to die because it (AI) is coming, whether we like it or not. We want to know it well so we can then put limits on it.” Music that aired during the experiment was mostly created by AI methods. Besides, human-sounding robot voices provided false short news stories which were too imaginative to be believed. These included a story about one-month ban on spaceship flights over Geneva because of noise complaints. Another talked about the opening of the first underwater restaurant in Lake Zurich, while another told that ________. There was a lot of discussion about whether to go on the experiment. He said he would stop the project if his team was not fully supportive. The station said it received hundreds of messages, with some supporting and others going against it. One person disliked the unfunny jokes. One considered the project a waste of time for a station that gets money from the government. Multone said about 90 percent of listener reactions suggested the experiment was a good idea. But at the same time, many listeners pointed, “You can feel these are robots, and there are fewer surprises, less personality.” 123.Who wrote the text to tell the listeners about the experiment? A.AI. B.Multone. C.Human presenters. D.Ostriches. 124.In Multone’s opinion, people should ________. It’s actually two tunnels-railway tracks run through both of them. They’re each almost twenty kilometers long. They’re not the longest tunnels in the world now, but they were when they were built, back in the beginning of the 20th century. The first one was started in 1898 and opened in 1906.The other one was started in 1912 and was opened in 1921, so each one was taken about eight years to build. The first tunnel was built by drilling in both directions-when the two drill-holes met in 1905, they were only two centimeters out of alignment. In those days, that was a tremendous achievement. While it was being built, about 3,000 people worked on the construction every day. The working conditions weren’t very good-for example, it was often very hot inside and more than sixty people died during the building of the tunnel. The tunnel joins Switzerland and Italy, and it has helped to make the travel between the two countries a lot easier than it was before. Now, people can put their car on the train and take it through the tunnel, so they don’t have to drive over the Simplon Pass. I think this was a great thing to build all those years ago and it has made a big difference to the whole of that part of Europe. 127.The two tunnels took about ________ years to build. A.eight B.sixteen C.twenty D.forty 128.The underlined word tremendous may mean the achievement is _______ at that time. A.fantastic B.natural C.simple D.general 129.Which of the following is TRUE about the Simplon Tunnel? A.About 3,000 people died during the building. B.The tunnel connected France and Italy. C.Cars can't be put on the train through it. D.It was difficult to construct the tunnel. 130.Which of the following best shows the structure of the text? (P=Paragraph) A.B. C. D. Passage34(22-23九年级上·浙江丽水·期中) Do you have a sleeping problem? If you do, there is a simple way to help you improve your sleep. You may need to see more sunlight, especially in the morning, according to a study. A team of researchers from New York, US did the study, reported Yahoo News. The team did a study on 109 office workers across the US. They found that some of the workers saw lots of light during the morning hours, between 8 and lunchtime. The researchers found these workers had a better sleep than other workers. They also fell asleep more quickly at night. Why is sunlight so important to our sleep? Researchers say it helps us set our “body clock”. When there is less and less sunlight at the end of the day, our body starts to make melatonin(褪黑素). It makes us feel sleepy so that we know it’s time to go to bed. Our body makes the most melatonin at night. But during the day, sunlight tells our body to make less melatonin so that we can stay awake and do our work. Researchers suggest that we should see 15 minutes of sunlight in the morning. It can help balance the melatonin in our bodies. 131.According to the study, what can people do to have a better sleep? A.Go to bed earlier. B.Eat healthier food. C.Do more exercise. D.See more sunshine. 132.What can we learn about the researchers from Paragraph 3? A.Their sleeping habits. B.The result of their study. C.Their problems with doing the study. D.Their different ways of doing the study. 133.Which of the following is TRUE? A.Most office workers have sleeping problems. B.Sunlight can help balance the melatonin in our bodies. C.The more melatonin we make, the healthier we get. D.Our bodies make the most melatonin in the morning. 134.What do researchers advise us to do? A.See 15 minutes of sunlight at lunchtime. B.See 15 minutes of sunlight in the morning. C.See 15 minutes of sunlight in the afternoon. D.Eat some melatonin to help us sleep better. Passage35(22-23九年级上·浙江衢州·期中) While studying a map of China, have you ever noticed the Mu Us Desert(毛乌素沙漠)with a total area of about 42,200 square kilometers in the northwest? If you haven’t, then you probably never will. That’s because the desert is disappearing. You might want to know: Why is this happening? Who is the “killer”? Well, this is not a sad story. It is, instead, the result of years of afforestation(植树造林)efforts. The Mu Us used to be one of the largest deserts in China. Sandstorms were common in northern Shaanxi. Lots of people had to leave their homes. The fight against desertification(沙漠化)began in the 1970s. The work was more than tiring. He Li’e led an afforestation team in Bulanghe, a town in Yulin, Shaanxi. They once spent a whole afternoon planting trees under the burning sun. That night, however, a strong wind blew away all the young trees. Crying was useless. The next day, the team planted all the trees again. In Yulin, there are many other sandstorm fighters. One of them is Guo Chengwang. With encouragement from the government, in 1985, he started to plant trees in his village. Guo is now in his nineties. His children, grandchildren and great - grandchildren have continued the job. The family has turned 30 km of desert into woods. These trees have made a big difference. In Yulin, the number of sandy days has dropped from 100 in 2000 to 10 now. With continuing efforts, the Mu Us Desert will be gone. It has changed from “looking for green in the sand” in the past to “looking for sand in the green.” Our motherland is becoming greener and lovelier. 135.Why will you never see the Mu Us Desert on the map? A.Because the sandstorms are common. B.Because no people lived in the desert. C.Because the desert is becoming smaller. D.Because someone killed the trees there. 136.How does the writer show the result of the afforestation efforts in Paragraph 3? A.By comparing facts. B.By listing reasons. C.By doing researches. D.By showing pictures. 137.What was the work of fighting against desertification like? A.Useless but special. B.Boring but different.. C.Hopeless but important. D.Tiring but meaningful. 138.Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage? A. B. C. D. Passage36(22-23九年级上·浙江衢州·期中) The next time you eat dinner, look closely at the food on your plate. If you are eating in the summertime, it’s possible that some of the food comes from your own garden. Some might come from the local farmers’ market. However, most of your food probably comes from far away. For centuries, people grew their own food and ate it themselves. In some countries, people continue to do this. However, farming has changed a lot in the last 100 years. Most people no longer grow their own food. They buy it in supermarkets. Thanks to modern farming, people around the world can enjoy apples from South Africa, pineapples from Costa Rica, and tomatoes from Mexico. They can enjoy this food without traveling to these places. Instead, the food travels to them. “Food miles” is the distance that food travels to get to us. For example, a person who lives in Japan may buy kiwi fruit that comes from New Zealand. This kiwi fruit has to travel 9,300 kilometers to get to this person. Airplanes, ships, trains, and trucks may bring this food. This transportation uses a lot of fuel (燃料)that can cause pollution. When food travels, some of it needs to stay cool, which takes more energy and fuel. Also, companies put chemicals (化学品)on food to help it last longer while it travels. These chemicals may not be good for our health. In our modern world. most people can’t grow all the food they need. However, there are three things you can do to help save energy and keep food healthy and delicious 1. Buy food that farmers grow in your area. 2. Buy organic food, which doesn’t have chemicals on it. 3. Try to grow more of your own food! It’s easy to buy food from all around the world. However, there may be farmers very close to you who grow the same food. By choosing local food, you can save energy, improve your health, and help local businesses. 139.What does the underlined word “this” in Paragraph 2 refer to? A.Grow and eat their own food. B.Buy food from supermarkets. C.Travel abroad to eat the food. D.Enjoy the food from far away. 140.What helps the food from far away come to your plate fresh? A.Travel plans. B.Food miles. C.Chemicals. D.Local farmers. 141.Which of the following is the writer’s opinion? A.It’s difficult to be a modern farmer. B.It’s helpful to buy more local food. C.It’s popular to grow food in the garden. D.It’s better to eat more food from far away. 142.Which of the following is the best title of the passage? A.Ways of Modern Farming B.From the World to Your Table C.Opinions on Buying Food D.How to Grow the Local Food Passage37(22-23九年级上·浙江丽水·期中) A research project called Mineral has created robots that move around in farm fields, collecting information about how plants are growing. The project aims to use robots to help farmers grow more food in ways that are healthy for the environment. With the number of people on the earth getting bigger each year, more and more food needs to be grown in order to feed everyone. As the weather is getting worse, this task is becoming even more difficult. In the past, in order to quickly increase the production, farmers used methods that aren’t always healthy for the environment-more fertilizers(肥料), and pesticides. Instead, the Mineral project is to get farms to produce more by improving conditions for each plant. Mineral’s team spent several years talking to farmers to see what problems they were having and how these problems might be fixed. That led to the creation of special robots, called “plant buggies”, which collect detailed(详细的) information about plants. At first, the buggies were very simple. They were built on bicycles and took pictures with cell phones. Over time, they’ve been improved gradually. The plant buggies now have four wheels and are high enough to move over plants without hurting them. The robots can take detailed pictures of plants, find out each plant’s right place, and measure the plant’s size. They can even do things humans can't, like counting all of the small buds(芽;花苞) on a plant. By collecting lots of information like this, Mineral believes these robots can help farmers make predictions about how their plants will grow and increase production. 143.According to the passage, Mineral is a ____________ to help grow more food. A.research project B.farm robot C.special computer D.plant buggy 144.The underlined phrase “this task” in Paragraph 2 refers to ___________. A.using computers to help farmers B.growing more food to feed everyone C.helping farmers to study each plant D.creating robots to collect information 145.According to the development of plant buggies, the correct order is ___________. a. find problems     b. build plant buggies c. talk to farmers     d. make four-wheeled buggies A.a-c-d-b B.b-c-d-a C.c-a-b-d D.d-a-b-c 146.The best title for the passage is __________. A.Mineral: A New Company B.Using Robots to Help Farmers C.Plant Buggies: Good or Bad? D.Improving Conditions of Each Plant Passage38(22-23九年级上·浙江丽水·期中) Everyone likes having money to spend. In fact, most of us wish we had a lot more money than we already have. Today, I want to share three common money mistakes that teenagers make and suggest ways to avoid them. One common mistake teenagers make is underestimating(低估) the real cost of purchases(购买品), especially on expensive items like mobile phones. Maybe you’ve saved up $2,000, so you plan to buy a phone that costs exactly $2,000. However, there are other costs to consider, like monthly service fees of $200 or more. Make sure you always do enough research before buying anything. This will help you avoid overspending. A second common mistake teenagers make is failing to develop a savings plan. We usually spend everything we have. Many of us even daydream about how we’re going to spend money that we don’t even have yet. Start saving money today by making a written plan. Discover how much money you expect to get over a period of time and then keep part of it, perhaps ten percent, for savings first before spending anything. This will help you to save up for special purchases. Finally, teenagers also make the mistake of impulse buying. We see something we like and buy it without thinking it through. This often happens when we’re out shopping with friends for fun. To avoid impulse buying, just think of the things you are saving up to buy before going out shopping. While shopping, carry only a small amount of money with you. If you want to make sure that you have the money you need when you really need it, try to avoid these money mistakes. In this way, you’ll be able to keep more money in your pocket with much less effort than you think. 147.In Paragraph 2, the writer told us one common mistake teenagers make by _________. A.asking a question B.giving an example C.listing a reason D.telling a story 148.Teenagers can _________ to save up money. A.make a savings plan B.save all the money they have C.keep their dreams D.discover how much one should pay 149.The structure of the text is _________. (P=Paragraph) A. B. C. D. 150.The purpose of this passage is to ________. A.make a request for pocket money B.ask teenagers to stop buying things C.give advice on using money wisely D.offer tips about making more money Passage39(23-24九年级上·浙江温州·期中) What is it in the picture? Is it an eggplant? In fact it’s a tomato, a purple tomato. The special kind of tomato was created by making changes to its DNA.Besides the unusual color, what’s really special about the tomato is that it has very high levels of antioxidants. Antioxidants are found naturally in plants like blueberries, blackberries and red cabbages. Scientists believe antioxidants may help people fight against some illnesses. But tomatoes naturally only have a small amount of antioxidants in them. British scientist Cathie Martin has been working on developing purple tomatoes for years. She wanted to see if she could create tomatoes with lots of antioxidants by changing the DNA of a tomato plant. Dr. Martin added two genes from a plant called a “snapdragon”. Soon her plants were producing small purple tomatoes with lots of antioxidants. Even better, the tomatoes remained fresh almost twice as long as normal tomatoes. Dr. Martin and some other scientists created a company. The company tested its tomatoes on mice that were likely to get cancer. The mice who were fed the purple tomatoes lived about 30% longer than the mice who were fed common tomatoes. Though that’s good news, tests on mice don’t always show what influence on humans will be like. In recent years, Dr. Martin and her company have been working to get the agreement to grow and sell the purple tomatoes in the US. On September 7, the US government agreed. Dr. Martin and her company plan to introduce the tomatoes at farmers markets across the US in 2023. They also hope to sell the seeds to people who want to grow their own. 151.What is the purpose of the first paragraph? A.To bring in the subject. B.To lead to a discussion. C.To compare two vegetables. D.To show the writer’s opinion. 152.Why did Dr. Martin want to create the purple tomatoes? A.To help British farmers. B.To make tomatoes healthier. C.To change the color of tomatoes. D.To see how the DNA of a tomato changes. 153.How are the purple tomatoes different from normal ones? A.They are much bigger. B.They don’t go bad easily. C.They are better for the environment. D.They have a shorter growing season. 154.What can we learn from the fifth paragraph? A.The purple tomatoes are not safe for humans to eat. B.The mice got cancer after eating the purple tomatoes. C.The company has decided to do tests on other animals. D.The influence of the purple tomatoes on humans is not clear. Passage49(22-23九年级上·浙江绍兴·期中) Dads have Father’s Day. Moms have Mother’s Day. Kids have Children’s Day. But, do our grandparents have a special holiday? Yes, they do! The Double Ninth Festival is a special day for elderly people in China. The festival is on the ninth day of the ninth month of the lunar calendar. People are not sure how old this kind of dancing is. Some think it started 2,000 years ago, but most agree that Morris dancing is probably about five centuries old. ②Many agree that it celebrates traditional English farm life on holidays. Morris dancers wear traditional costumes. Usually, this is a white shirt, a bright jacket, a hat and small bells called “jingle bells”. There are about 20 reasons that scientists think are possible for yawning(打哈欠) after research. They do not know exactly why yawning happens, but they do know many facts about yawning. ②We know that everyone yawns in the same way. First you open your mouth slowly. Your mouth stays open for about five seconds. You take in a lot of air and then push it out. Then you quickly close your mouth. We also know that yawning is contagious(有传染性的). 【答案】56.B 57.D 58.D 59.C 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了AR和VR技术。 56.细节理解题。根据“ Both offer experiences to users, most widely used in areas such as online shopping and as part of psychological treatments.”可知,AR和VR都被用于例如网上购物的领域,也是作为心理治疗的一部分。故选B。 57.细节理解题。根据空格位置和空格后一句“The main difference lies in the way of transport.”可知,本段讲的是AR和VR之间的不同之处。故选D。 58.细节理解题。根据“ Imagine opening your eyes and seeing a new world created by the computer all around you; you can move in this environment and even communicate with it. 【答案】68.D 69.B 70.C 71.C 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了人类的活动影响了鸟类的生活习惯,因此他们只有掌握更多的狩猎技能才不会被灭绝。 68.细节理解题。根据“These changes may include adding new food to their diet, developing new hunting skills, or living in a new environment.”可知,这些变化可能包括在他们的饮食中添加新的食物,发展新的狩猎技能,或者生活在新的环境中。故选D。 69.推理判断题。根据“The study includes more than 3,800 new behaviors among 8,600 kinds of birds. They discovered that the more new hunting skills the birds learn, the larger population they will have.”可知,鸟类掌握的技能越多,他们的数量就越多,因此二者成正比,B选项的图符合。故选B。 70.细节理解题。根据第三段“some animals are very dangerous to some birds: snakes can eat little birds; some hungry mice steal birds’ eggs.”可知,第三段显示了其他动物对鸟类的危害,故选C。 71.推理判断题。根据“Now, a new study has found that birds that are able to change their behaviors(行为) in this way are less likely to die out. A.how plants “know” when to flower B.what people can do with plants C.how seasons are changing D.what kind of plant Arabidopsis is 【答案】75.D 76.B 77.A 78.A 【导语】本文主要介绍了FKF1这种蛋白质可以让植物“知道”什么时候开花。 75.细节理解题。根据“Researchers found the FKF1 protein when they were studying a plant called Arabidopsis.”可知研究者在研究拟南芥这种花时发现了FKF1这种蛋白质。故选D。 76.细节理解题。根据“If there is light in the late afternoon, plants will know that the days are getting longer and that it is the best time for flowers to come out”可知当傍晚还有阳光时,植物就会知道白天变得越来越长,这就是最好的开花时间。故选B。 77.细节理解题。根据“Although researchers have only studied how the FKF1 protein works in the Arabidopsis, they believe that it is the same with many other plants, including crops such as rice and wheat.”可知科学家们相信其他的植物包括庄稼也知道什么时候开花。故选A。 78.主旨大意题。根据“Flowers come out everywhere on the same day. A.Act. B.Achieve. C.Connect. 【答案】87.A 88.C 89.D 90.B 【导语】本文介绍了善良的重要性以及可能带来的问题。善良可以建立更好的人际关系并提高幸福感,但有些人会利用你的善良。过度付出而没有得到回报会导致不满和压力积累。因此,应该适度地表现出善良,并学会拒绝那些利用你的人。 87.推理判断题。根据“According to the Mayo Clinic, when we perform acts of kindness, the pleasure center in our brain becomes active, giving out the stress-reducing hormone(激素).”可知,根据梅奥诊所的说法,当我们做出善举时,我们大脑中的快乐中心会变得活跃,释放出减压激素。可以推断出释放善意对我们的大脑有好处。故选A。 88.推理判断题。根据“What about a year later?”及“In fact, the only time they communicate with you is when they need something. You have been helpful to your teammates but there has rarely been any return from them.”可知,一年后,他们与你沟通的唯一时间是在他们需要什么的时候。你对你的队友很有帮助,但他们很少有任何回报。由此推断,一年后这个新人会感到失望。故选C。 89.词句猜测题。根据“However, you need to be willing to say ‘no’ when realizing that your plate is already too full. When people ask you a hand, think it over if you have the time, energy, and attention to give to them.”可知,当人们向你寻求帮助时,要考虑一下你是否有时间、精力和注意力来帮助他们。因此当你很忙或很累的时候,可以拒绝别人的请求。故选D。 90.最佳标题题。根据“Then here comes a question: Could kindness be harmful to us? Let’s think about it.”可知,文章主要探讨了善良可能带来的问题,因此最符合主题的标题应该是B“我们是否因善良而疲惫”。故选B。 Passage24(23-24九年级上·浙江台州·期中) ①With most people staying at home because of COVID-19, livestreaming(直播) has taken off. A.the way to improve sleep B.the time to use phones every day C.the development of LED technology D.the importance of staying away from screens 【答案】99.C 100.C 101.B 102.A 【导语】本文讲述了良好睡眠的重要性。 99.细节理解题。根据“It’s hard at work sorting(整理)memories, cleansing itself of wastes and more.”可知,大脑忙于整理记忆和清理自己,故选C。 100.词句猜测题。根据“Their bodies don’t produce the hormone melatonin—which tells the brain it’s time for bed—until later at night.”可知,他们的身体直到深夜才产生褪黑激素;由此推知青少年很晚都不睡觉。故选C。 101.段落大意题。根据“It’s hard to say exactly why teenagers have become more sleep-deprived(睡眠不足的),One reason...”以及“Another reason may be...”可知这两段在解释睡眠不足原因。故选B。 102.推理判断题。根据“but turn off the phone and have a good sleep. Your body and brain will thank you.”可知是提高睡眠的方法。故选A。 Passage27(23-24九年级上·浙江杭州·期中) We spend most of our time with friends whom we like.
