Would you like to live in a city where buildings turn the lights off for you, and self- driving cars will find the nearest parking space themselves? Although it might sound a little far from you, living in a “smart” city like this could happen sooner than you think.
Great changes have taken place in towns that we have lived in for centuries, while completely new cities are being built. One such place is the city of Songdo. Around the city, escalators (自动扶梯) will only move when someone is on them, and offices and schools will all be connected to the system.
The great mind behind Songdo is from the company Cisco. In fact, technology companies around the world such as IBM, Siemens and Microsoft are already in the business.
About 75% of the world’s population will live in cities by 2050, so cities will need to be smarter to deal with the coming problems.” Making cities smarter is one way out, and I think this will in turn make cities greener, said Dan Hill, head of a research company.

Nanie likes reading very much. He wanted to share his love of reading with his community, so he decided to turn his home into a library. At first, his family objected. But he talked with them and finally they agreed to support him.
His library began in 2000, with a collection of a- round 100 of his own books. He simply put the books outside his front door to see whether people wanted to borrow them. Today the library has grown to two million books. Known as the Reading Club 2000, the library is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. People find the library does not have member cards and no identification (认证) is needed when they want to take a book. There’s also no limit (限制) on the number of books, when or whether they’re returned.
Nanie encourages the sharing of books and believes that people can do things better by reading different books. Tea, coffee and cocoa are three major drinks all over the world. Tea is drunk by the largest number of people in the world. The word for tea in different languages came from Chinese, like “cha’I” in Russian. And the Japanese character for tea is written exactly the same as it is in Chinese.
Over the past centuries, Chinese people have developed their unique tea culture, which includes tea planting, tea-leaf picking, tea making and tea drinking. A good example around me
There are many good examples around me. My classmate Wang Fan is one of them.
It was a rainy day. Hurrying to return home, everyone seemed to forget to do the cleaning. Seeing this, Wang Fan stayed and started to sweep the floor quietly. I felt surprised because he wasn’t on duty! But he just said he was glad to do something for us. Moved by his words, I thought I should care more about others and the class.
Good examples are not far away from us. They are just common people who do common things. These things my be small but necessary and meaningful. Good examples always have something for us to learn from and warm others in their own way.
