The most helpful and creative invention for kids is the reading pen. With the specially-designed pen, kids find it convenient and fun to learn. They are also great helpers for primary school students after school.
Mopping robots are popular with people who are too busy to do housework. They are more popular with office ladies. They can help people clean dirt, dust and hair easily. With the help of them, people don’t need to spend much time on housework. They can enjoy a more relaxing life after work.

In your school, are you allowed to choose the subjects you want to learn? Of course, the answer is “No” here in China.
In America, there is a school trying something new. At a high school in Florida, students will be able to choose their own classes. We all know that some students are better at some subjects than others. Some students plan to go on to college, while others will not. At this school, students are able to find subjects they are interested in, and possibly even find the field (领域) they would like to go into after school. They are allowed to choose subjects like biology and math, learn a foreign language, or study skills like computer or car repair.
Some people think this is a good idea, because it helps students think about what they want to do in the future, and the school helps to give them the knowledge and skills needed to get there. They say that giving the students the chance to choose their own classes makes high school more interesting. But others disagree. They think that fourteen-year-old teenagers are too young to know what they will want to do in the future.
Would you like to be able to choose your own classes? Many useful changes have been made in education, but seeing the differences in each student is also important. How can we help each student become a better student?

Music is an art form that is enjoyed by people from all walks of life. The type and style may be different, but it is a central factor (因素) in many cultures. Whether in times of celebration or just in everyday life, music plays an important part in making life meaningful.
It is said that people in ancient times had songs they would sing as they worked. These songs would be passed from one generation (一代人) to the next. In a sense, they made work “easier”. Not as machines do, but it would help reduce people’s sense of difficulty when they were doing manual work.
It isn’t much different today as it is quite common for people to turn on the music while in the office. However, it is important that you know which type of music to listen to, so it doesn’t end up being opposite. If you are at work and need to learn something new, or you find that your workstation is a bit noisy, then you may want to turn on your music to reduce the distractions (分心的事). Music can add some flavour (滋味) that you need to plain daily work.
Many people consciously (有意识地) or unconsciously relax when they put on some comforting music. How does music make people relax? It is connected with the physical influence of music on the body-a welcome accompaniment (伴奏) in activities can relieve (缓解) stress.
43. People in ancient times sang while working to ________.
A. do less work B. feel less difficulty C. save energy D. make more money
44. What does the underlined word “manual” in Paragraph 2 mean in Chinese?

C. He may need to listen to the music again. D. He has to change his mood based on the music.
46. One may feel ________ after listening to some comforting music.
A. excited B. stressed C. surprised D. relaxed

Whenever the sun dropped and the blue sky came up, my father and I used to climb the mountain near my house. Walking together, my father and I used to have a lot of conversations through which I learned lessons from his experiences. He always told me, “You should have goals like climbing the mountain.” Without the mountain-climbing that we both enjoyed, we couldn’t have enough time to spend together because my father was very busy. I really got a lot from the mountain-climbing. It gave me time to talk with my father and to be in deep thought as well as develop my patience.
Once we climbed a very high mountain. It was so challenging for me because I was only ten years old. During the first few hours of climbing, I enjoyed the flowers and trees, and the birds’ singing. But as time passed, I got pain in both of my legs. I wanted to give up climbing, but my father said to me, “You can always see a beautiful sky at the top of the mountain, but you can’t see it before you reach the top. Only there can you see all of the nice things, which is just like your life.”
At that time, I was too young to understand his words. But later after that, I got to know the meaning of hope in life. I found myself standing at the top of the mountain, and the sky was as clear as crystal (水晶).
47. The passage tells us that mountain-climbing was ________ for the father and the son.
A. hard B. enjoyable C. painful D. comfortable

C. though the writer was young, he could understand his father
D. the writer used to stop half-way when he climbed the mountain

My teacher said to a student “Give me your phone.”
We all looked in surprise. Kyie, a student who I never saw text in class, gave the teacher his phone.
When the teacher left, two students who I often saw text in class started boasting (吹嘘) about how they sent text messages and never got caught.
“Kyle, you stupid! I put my phone under my desk so it looks like I’m looking at my textbooks,” one of them said.
“Isn’t it funny that we always text and never get caught?” the other one laughed.
These two students might not get caught, but neither of them had good grades. They didn’t pay any attention to the class, and I think they will keep doing this.
People don’t break big rules and get thrown into jail (监狱) overnight. They take it one step at a time. Kyle might have gotten caught, but at least he learned a good lesson. He will not break the rules in the future, so he will learn more in class and stay out of trouble. It’s smarter not to break small rules.
50. Why did the teacher ask Kyle to give up his phone?
A. Because she wanted to find out what Kyle just texted.
B. Because Kyle was playing with his phone in class.
C. Because the students wanted to see Kyle’s new phone.
D. Because Kyle was boasting about how he sent text messages.

A few months ago, a strange thing happened in my life. I heard a strange sound outside the window every night. I was scared and didn’t know what to do. I thought there might be a thief standing outside the window. I asked my parents to see what it was. But they didn’t find anything. They thought it might be the wind. But I didn’t think so.
That lasted for a few days. I couldn’t sleep well. Sometimes I even couldn’t fall asleep. One day, I bought a flashlight (手电筒) in a market. At midnight, as soon as I heard the strange sound, I jumped out of my bed with the flashlight. I saw a black cat jumping up and down near the window.

My teacher said to a student, “Give me your phone.”
We all looked in surprise. Kyie, a student who I never saw text in class, gave the teacher his phone.
When the teacher left, two students who I often saw text in class started boasting (吹嘘) about how they sent text messages and never got caught.
“Kyle you stupid!

【答案】例文
My Sharing Experience
Sharing is a way of behavior as well as a good quality of people. It is very important to know how to share. Sharing happiness can double it, and sharing worries can halve them.
I have had many sharing experiences. One day, I had a good news that I got the first prize in the English competition. I was so happy that I shared it with my friends. They were also very happy for me and encouraged me to keep working hard. Another time, I was worried about my exam. I shared my worries with my parents. They comforted me and gave me some useful suggestions. With their help, I felt much better.
From these experiences, I learned that sharing can make us happier and stronger. We should learn to share with others.
