Then, one after another, Sydney discovered lots of things that were just sort of there — broad parks, superb beaches, and a culturally diverse population. But it is the harbor that makes the city. Andrew Reynolds, a cheerful fellow in his early 30s, pilots Sydney ferryboats for a living. I spent the whole morning shuttling back and forth across the harbor. After our third run Andrew shut down the engine, and we went our separate ways — he for a lunch break, I to explore the city. “I’ll miss these old boats” he said as we parted. “How do you mean?” I asked. “Oh, they’ re replacing them with catamarans. Catamarans are faster, but they’ re not so graceful and they’ re not fun to pilot. But that’s progress, I guess.” Everywhere in Sydney these days, change and progress are the watchwords (口号), and traditions are increasingly rare. Shirley Fitzgerald, the city’s official historian, told me that in its rush to modernity in the 1970s. Sydney swept aside much of its past, including many of its finest buildings. “Sydney is confused about itself,” she said. “We can’t seem to make up our minds whether we want a modern city or a traditional one. It’s a conflict that we aren’t getting any better at resolving (解决).” On the other hand, being young and old at the same time has its attractions. I considered this when I met a thoughtful young businessman named Anthony. “Many people say that we lack culture in this country,” he told me. “What people forget is that the Italians, when they came to Australia, brought 2000 years of their culture, the Greeks some 3000 years, and the Chinese more still. We’ve got a foundation built on ancient cultures but with a drive and dynamism of a young country. It’s a pretty hard combination to beat.” He is right, but I can’t help wishing they would keep those old ferries. 4. What is the main idea of the first paragraph? A. Sydney’s striking architecture. B. The cultural diversity of Sydney. C. The city’s key lies in its port. D. Sydney’s tourist attractions in the 1960s. 5. What can we learn about Andrew Reynolds? A. He goes to work by boat. B. He prefers the old ferry. C. He pilots catamarans well. D. He looks forward to a new life. 6. What does Shirley Fitzgerald think of Sydney? A. It seeks to modernize rather than preserve tradition B. It should speed up its development. C. It should expand its population. D. It is becoming more international. 7 Which statement is the author likely to agree with? A. A city based on ancient cultures is more dynamic. B. Compromise should be made between the local and the foreign. C. Modernity is usually achieved at the cost of elegance. D. A city can be young and old at the same time. C It was a sunny afternoon in June of 2022 when 20-year-old Anthony Perry stepped off the train at Chicago’s 69th Street station. On the platform, two men were fighting bitterly. Then the unthinkable happened: the pair fell over the edge and onto the tracks. One man ended up on his back. Suddenly, he started convulsing (抽搐) unnaturally. He had fallen on the third rail, the conduit (导线管) for the 600 volts of electricity that powers Chicago’s L trains. The aggressor leaped backward, bounded back up onto the platform and disappeared. Perry couldn’t just stand there and watch. He sat at the edge of the platform and eased himself down. He took a few quick bounds and approached the victim. The guy looked dead, his body still moving violently as the electricity pulsed (搏动). Gathering up his courage, Perry reached down and grasped the victim’s wrist. Instantly, he felt a blast of electric shock shoot through his body. Perry shrank and jumped back. He reached down a second time, and was shocked again. But the third time he seized the man’s wrist and forearm and, braving the shock, pulled with all his strength. The guy’s body slid briefly along the third rail, coming to rest on the gravel on the outer edge of the tracks. The man was breathing, but irregularly. Something wasn’t right. “Give him chest compressions (按压)!” yelled a woman. Perry was no expert, but for a few moments he worked on the man’s heart until the victim began convulsing. Then he heard a sudden noise behind him — medical workers and firefighters had arrived. Perry let the professionals take over. His heart still racing from the electric shocks, he climbed back up onto the platform, grabbed his things and headed home. The evening news reported the incident. After a friend outed him to the media, Perry became the toast of Chicago. Perry was then recruited by the Chicago Fire Department and is now training to be an emergency medical technician. 8. What made the rescue of the victim particularly difficult? A. The man had lost his consciousness. B. The victim lay injured on top of a track. C. The rescuer was at risk of an electric shock. D. The electricity powering trains was hard to cut off. 9. What can be inferred about Perry according to paragraphs 3—4? A. He had received professional first aid training. B. The local newspaper interviewed him on the spot. C. His chest compressions played a key role in saving life. D. His heart beat fast because of nervousness and tiredness. 10. What does the underlined sentence in paragraph 4 mean? A. Perry landed a job in the Fire Department. B. The city of Chicago awarded Perry a prize. C People in Chicago toasted Perry for his brave deeds. D. Perry got popular and greatly admired in Chicago. 11. What is the author’s main purpose of writing the text? A. To credit a hero with saving a victim’s life. B. To highlight Perry’s courage in stopping a fight. C. To stress the importance of calmness in rescue work. D. To display people’s cooperation in assisting the victim. D Animal populations across the world have been reduced by 69% in less than 50 years, according to a new scientific report. The report’s authors are calling for urgent action to restore the natural world. The Living Planet Report (LPR) is produced every two years by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the Zoological Society of London. The most recent report, released on October 13, 2022, shows that almost 70% of the world’s monitored wildlife was lost between 1970 and 2018. The report is based on research from 195 countries around the world. Data was collected from almost 32,000 populations of 5,230 species. Although the average global loss of wildlife is 69%, the rate is greater in the global south. Latin America and the Caribbean in particular have seen the sharpest fall, having lost 94% of their wildlife since 1970. Across the world, the biggest drop was in freshwater populations of wildlife — including almost 1,400 species of mammals, birds, fish, amphibians and reptiles — which have decreased by 83%. The report identifies several causes for wildlife loss, including hunting, farming, the loss of forests, pollution and climate change. However, the report also promotes solutions, such as designing less destructive food production systems, urgently protecting the Amazon rainforest, limiting the use of fossil fuels, and creating new laws to protect our natural environment. Commenting on the report, Marco Lambertini, director general of WWF International, called the figures “terrifying”, and said “we need to help nature recover and not simply halt its loss.” In December 2022, world leaders are meeting in Montreal for the 15th UN Biodiversity Conference, also known as COP 15. The authors of the LPR say that this is an opportunity for a global plan to deal with wildlife loss and restore nature. “Government leaders must step up at COP 15,” said Lambertini. “The world is watching.” 12. What does the author mainly want to show by listing the numbers in the first three paragraphs? A. The causes of the urgent situation. B. The seriousness of wildlife loss worldwide. C. The detailed process of the research. D. The drop in freshwater populations of wildlife. 13. According to the report, what is a possible solution to population decline of wildlife? A. Stop hunting and farming. B. Not permit the production of wildlife food. C. Replace the fossil fuels with renewable energy. D. Offer legal protection of natural environment. 14. What does the underlined word “halt” mean in the last paragraph? A. Accept. B. Fear. C. Stop. D. Suffer. 15. What is Lambertini’s attitude towards wildlife loss? A. Concerned. B. Indifferent. C. Positive. D. Satisfied. Raising teenagers can be both difficult and rewarding(有回报的). They are becoming young adults. The sidewalk was filled with shoppers as my mother and I hurried to the department store. I raised my neck for a look at the holiday window display, but at the age of six I was too small to see around the grown-ups with their winter coats and packages. When at last we reached the store, I stood with my eyes widened. “Look, Mother,” I shouted, pressing my hands against the glass, “Cinderella.” Before my eyes was the most beautiful doll I had ever seen! She wore a fairy princess suit made of shining red silk. I knew if I lifted her skirt I would find her crystal (水晶) shoes. The tiny tiara (冠状头饰) fastened to her silky golden hair shone. “If only she were mine” I dreamed. “We’d have tea parties, share secrets and dance with a handsome prince.” But to my disappointment, my mother guided me away from the window, explaining that she and my father could not afford such an expensive doll. “But there will be a very special gift under the tree for you on Christmas morning, Madge,” she said. “I promise.” Later that week I leaned against Mother’s sewing machine, watching the needle flash up and down. “Bet you don’t know what this is!” she joked, holding up the cloth for me to see. “My Christmas doll!” I yelled. It was still in the early stages but I could make out the head, neck and body. “So much to my surprise!” Mother laughed as I danced around the room, already pretending Cinderella and I were at the ball. It wouldn’t be long now. My excitement grew with each passing day. Mother continued to work on the doll, and whenever I walked into the room she would hide it under a pillow. I could tell by her smile she was pleased with her progress. On Christmas morning I jumped out of bed, ran down the hall and quickly arrived at the living room where the Christmas tree was placed. Paragraph 1: There, underneath the tree, was a beautifully packed gift box. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: In a word, the doll was nothing like Cinderella; she looked more like her ugly stepsister. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 吉林省实验中学 2024-2025学年度上学期高二年级假期验收考试 英 语 (本试卷共16页,27部分,满分150分,考试用时120分钟) 注意事项: 1. 1. “I’ll miss these old boats,” he said as we parted. 7. Which statement is the author likely to agree with? A. A city based on ancient cultures is more dynamic. B. Compromise should be made between the local and the foreign. C. Modernity is usually achieved at the cost of elegance. D. A city can be young and old at the same time. C 5. B 6. A 7. 根据第一段“Sometime in the early 1960s, a significant thing happened in Sydney, Australia. The city discovered its harbor. Then, one after another, Sydney discovered lots of things that were just sort of there — broad parks, superb beaches, and a culturally diverse population. But it is the harbor that makes the city.(20世纪60年代初的某个时候,澳大利亚悉尼发生了一件大事。这座城市发现了它的港口。然后,一个接一个地,悉尼发现了很多本来就在那里的东西——广阔的公园,美丽的海滩,文化多样化的人口。但正是海港造就了这座城市)”可知,本段主要介绍了悉尼发展的关键是港口。故选C项。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“Andrew Reynolds, a cheerful fellow in his early 30s, pilots Sydney ferryboats for a living.(30岁出头的Andrew Reynolds是个快乐的小伙子,他在悉尼担任渡轮领航员为生)”、第三段“I’ll miss these old boats(我会想念这些旧船的)”以及第五段“Catamarans are faster, but they’ re not so graceful and they’ re not fun to pilot.(双体船更快,但它们不那么优雅,驾驶起来也不有趣)”可知,渡轮领航员Andrew Reynolds喜欢老式渡船。 根据倒数第三段“Shirley Fitzgerald, the city’s official historian, told me that in its rush to modernity in the 1970s. Sydney swept aside much of its past, including many of its finest buildings.(这座城市的官方历史学家雪莉·菲茨杰拉德告诉我,上世纪70年代,在这座城市迅速走向现代化的过程中。悉尼的许多过去都被夷为平地,包括许多最精美的建筑)”可推知,Shirley Fitzgerald认为悉尼匆忙奔向现代化,正在失去它的传统。故选A项。 根据倒数第二段“On the other hand, being young and old at the same time has its attractions. I considered this when I met a thoughtful young businessman named Anthony.(另一方面,同时既年轻又古老也有它的魅力。当我遇到一位深思熟虑的年轻商人Anthony时,我考虑到了这一点)”以及最后一段“He is right (他说得没错)”可推知,作者赞同Anthony的观点,认为一座城市可以同时既年轻又古老。故选D项。 C It was a sunny afternoon in June of 2022 when 20-year-old Anthony Perry stepped off the train at Chicago’s 69th Street station. A Perry landed a job in the Fire Department. B. The city of Chicago awarded Perry a prize. C. People in Chicago toasted Perry for his brave deeds. C 9. C 10. D 11. 根据第一段中“One man ended up on his back. Suddenly, he started convulsing (抽搐) unnaturally. He had fallen on the third rail, the conduit (导线管) for the 600 volts of electricity that powers Chicago’s L trains. (一个人最终倒地。突然,他开始不自然地抽搐起来。他摔在了第三根铁轨上,那是为芝加哥L型列车提供600伏电力的导线管)”和第二段中“Instantly, he felt a blast of electric shock shoot through his body. (瞬间,他感到一阵电击穿过他的身体)”可知,受害者摔在了通电的导线管上,因为触电而抽搐,Perry尝试救他的时候被电击了。由此可知,救助者有触电的危险使救助变得尤其困难。故选C项。 【9题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中“The man was breathing, but irregularly. Something wasn’t right. “Give him chest compressions (按压)!” yelled a woman. Perry was no expert, but for a few moments he worked on the man’s heart until the victim began convulsing. After a friend outed him to the media 故选A项。 D Animal populations across the world have been reduced by 69% in less than 50 years, according to a new scientific report. A The causes of the urgent situation. C. Positive. D. Satisfied. B 13. D 14. C 15. 根据第一段“Animal populations across the world have been reduced by 69% in less than 50 years, according to a new scientific report. The report’s authors are calling for urgent action to restore the natural world.(根据一份新的科学报告,在不到50年的时间里,世界各地的动物数量减少了69%。该报告的作者呼吁采取紧急行动来恢复自然世界)”以及第二段中“The most recent report, released on October 13, 2022, shows that almost 70% of the world’s monitored wildlife was lost between 1970 and 2018. The report is based on research from 195 countries around the world. Data was collected from almost 32,000 populations of 5,230 species.(2022年10月13日发布的最新报告显示,1970年至2018年期间,全球近70%的受监测野生动物消失。该报告基于全球195个国家的研究。数据来自5230个物种的近32000个种群)”以及第三段中“Latin America and the Caribbean in particular have seen the sharpest fall, having lost 94% of their wildlife since 1970. (拉丁美洲和加勒比地区的野生动物数量下降尤其严重,自1970年以来已经失去了94%的野生动物)”可知,作者主要想通过列举前三段的数字来展示世界范围内野生动物损失的严重性。故选B。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据倒数第二段中“However, the report also promotes solutions, such as designing less destructive food production systems, urgently protecting the Amazon rainforest, limiting the use of fossil fuels, and creating new laws to protect our natural environment.(然而,该报告也提出了解决方案,例如设计破坏性较小的粮食生产系统,紧急保护亚马逊雨林,限制化石燃料的使用,以及制定新的法律来保护我们的自然环境)”可知,根据该报告,为自然环境提供法律保护是解决野生动物数量下降的一个可能的解决方案。 根据最后一段中“The authors of the LPR say that this is an opportunity for a global plan to deal with wildlife loss and restore nature. “Government leaders must step up at COP 15,” said Lambertini. “The world is watching.”(LPR的作者说,这是一个应对野生动物损失和恢复自然的全球计划的机会。兰伯蒂尼说:“政府领导人必须在第15届缔约方会议上采取行动。“全世界都在看着。”)”可知,兰伯蒂尼认为领导人必须在第15届缔约方会议上采取行动。由此推知,他对野生动物数量减少的态度是担心的。故选A。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Raising teenagers can be both difficult and rewarding(有回报的). When it comes to ocean, its pollution is becoming more and more serious. World Ocean Day, falling on June 8th, is aimed at raising awareness of ocean conservation. Ocean plays a key role in our world. Not only does ocean offer us sufficient food, but also it maintains the balance of nature. Thus, it is imperative to protect ocean. First of all, what we can do is to place importance on our daily actions. For example, garbage can’t be thrown into ocean. What’s more, we can also hand out leaflets to call on more people to protect the ocean. The more people are involved, the better the ocean environment is. All in all, it is high time that we devoted ourselves to protecting ocean. To protect ocean is to protect ourselves. 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇应用文,就世界海洋日为主题向英文征文比赛投稿,阐述海洋的重要性并提出一些建议。 【详解】1.词汇积累 越来越:more and more→increasingly 重视:place importance on→attach importance to 重要的:key→significant 此外:what’s more→furthermore 2.句式拓展 简单句变复合句 原句:World Ocean Day, falling on June 8th, is aimed at raising awareness of ocean conservation. 拓展句:World Ocean Day, which falls on June 8th, is aimed at raising awareness of ocean conservation. 【点睛】[高分句型1]Not only does ocean offer us sufficient food, but also it maintains the balance of nature.(运用了部分倒装结构) [高分句型2]When it comes to ocean, its pollution is becoming more and more serious.(使用了固定句型) [高分句型3]First of all, what we can do is to place importance on our daily actions.(使用了主语从句) 第二节 读后续写(满分25分) 47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 Everyone likes the beautiful Cinderella, but I like the ugly stepsister. “If only she were mine,” I dreamed. 注意: 1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: There, underneath the tree, was a beautifully packed gift box. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文 There, underneath the tree, was a beautifully packed gift box. Inside it was the “doll!” I expected. With butterflies in my stomach, I breathed deeply and then opened it expectantly. However, much to my disappointment, it was nothing like the one that we saw at the store. She wore a plain skirt with a simple face. Her black woolen hair was pulled back in a pony tail, with no shiny tiara at all, not to mention the crystal shoes. In a word, the doll was nothing like Cinderella; she looked more like her ugly stepsister. But I could see my mother watching me, with an eager look on her face. Thinking of mom staying up late into the night making the doll for me, I knew mom would be sad if she knew what I really felt. Hiding my disappointment, I shouted with delight, “She’s hard to resist! Thanks, Mom!” A relieved smile appeared on my mother’s face. From time to time, I would take the “ugly stepsister” out and admire it. It is a reminder of my mother’s love. Her love attached to the doll will make me happy even if things don’t always tick all the right boxes. 词汇激活 行为类 ①深呼吸:breathe deeply/take a deep breath ②想起:think of /consider ③拒绝:resist /refuse 情绪类 ①感到紧张:with butterflies in my stomach /being nervous ②高兴:delight /pleasure 【点睛】[高分句型1] However, much to my disappointment, it was nothing like the one that we saw at the store.(由关系代词that引导的定语从句) [高分句型2] Her love attached to the doll will make me happy even if things don’t always tick all the right boxes.(由连词even if引导的让步状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
