五、阅读理解 (共15小题,每小题2分,满分30分)

Think of some great minds you like. You will probably find that their success didn’t come easily. As “Father of Hybrid Rice (杂交水稻)”, Yuan Longping got over great difficulties and spent his whole life working to increase rice production and helping to feed the country with the largest population.
Wu Mengchao, the “Father of Chinese Hepatobiliary Surgery (肝胆外科)”, focused on saving people’s lives for nearly eighty years. He did more than 16,000 operations during his life. Holding the surgeon’s knife for such a long time deformed his fingers but he still kept doing operations. Wu once said, “It would be my greatest happiness if I could work at the operating table until the last moment of my life.”
In 1969, in order to solve the problem of treating malaria(疟疾), Tu Youyou, worked as head of a research team. They did different kinds of experiments. However, the results were not satisfactory. Instead of giving up, they kept trying. Finally, in 1972, they made it! In 2015, at the age of 85, she received the Nobel Prize.
Thomas Edison, the inventor of the light bulb believed that every failure was a step towards success. He once said, “If I find 10, I haven’t failed.I am not discouraged, because every wrong try is another step forward.”

The famous scientist Alexander Fleming said, “When I woke up just after daybreak on 28th September, 1928. I just began another busy day with my research as I did many days and nights before. And I certainly didn’t plan to make a great difference to all medicine by discovering the world’s first antibiotic(抗生素). But I guess that was exactly what I did.”
Some people only became successful after their deaths. The artist Vincent Van Gogh only sold one painting all through his life and that was to a friend. One thing all these people have in common is that they never give up and stick to their goals no matter what happens.

Fyodor Dostoevsky
●Profession: writer
●Lived: 1821-1881
●Birthplace: Moscow, Russia
●Famous works: Crime and Punishment, The Brothers Karamazo, The Idiot
If you want to understand the soul (灵魂) of Russia, read Fyodor Dostoevsky as he is “the archetype (典型) of the Russian nation”. This year marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of the famous Russian writer.
Dostoevsky was introduced to literature (文学) at an early age through fairy tales, legends (传奇) and books by Russian and foreign authors. In 1846 when Dostoevsky was 25 years old, his first novel Poor Folk, came out. But four years later he was pot in prison for being in a literary club. Dostoevsky spent the next four years in a prison camp and another six years doing military service. After experiencing these hardships, Dostoevskly created deep works by exploring the human psyche (心理). He is seen as the first 19th-century writer who reached down into the deepest comers of the troubled Russian soul, said Russian Beyond. Most of his characters experience a lot of pain. Some suffer from worries and low self-esteem (自尊), while some are not loved. Yet, they are ready to go through these troubles, looking for freedom and fairness. “If you want to conquer (征服) the whole world, conquer yourself.” Dostoevsky wrote in his novel Demons.
Dostoevsky’s works have inspired (激励,赋予灵感) many writers. US author William Faulkner once said the Russian writer was one of his main literary inspirations, alongside the Bible and Shakespeare. The US author often reread Dostoevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov. Another US author, Ernest Hemingway, loved The Idiot. “In Dostoevsky, there were things unbelievable and not to be believed, but some so true, they changed you as you read them.” Hemingway said.

C
In 1993, Swedish psychologist (心理学家) K. Anders Ericsson set out to find the secret to turning a typical teen into a violin master. His answer? Practice: 10,000 hours of it. The reporter and writer Malcolm Gladwell even described it as “the magic number of greatness” in his 2008 book Outliers.
The idea of “practice makes perfect” has been drilled (灌输) into the heads of youths since the Roman period. Anyone can be the next Albert Einstein, Kobe Bryant, or Taylor Swift as long as they can spend enough time doing the same thing. But can it be that simple? Not every expert agrees. While training is necessary to learning, spending much of your life trying something over and over doesn’t mean you’ll go professional, says Zach Hambrick, a psychologist at Michigan State University.
Being great isn’t just about the quantity of work, he says, but also about the workers themselves. In reviewing different studies about the role of practice in music, games, sports, education, and professional success, Hambrick found that practicing time makes only about one-quarter of any noticeable (显而易见的) difference. Other reasons—like age, intelligence, and natural gifts—all played big roles in setting apart the better from the best.
Genes (基因) mainly shape physical abilities and our mind. Height might be necessary for a basketball star, and a good voice could help you take the lead in singing. And no practice will make you taller or able to hit notes across every octave (八度). Plenty of piano playing will not make your fingers grow longer.
Of course, this doesn’t mean we should all give up practicing, Hamorick says. Nobody is a born dancer or singer. But perfection in 10,000 hours? That is not sure.
59.What can we learn from Paragraph 2 & 3?
A.We can surely succeed if we keep trying.

A.how much you work B.how often you work
C.how fast you work D.how you work
61.How does the writer develop Paragraph 4?
A.By listing numbers. B.By comparing facts.
C.By telling stories. D.By giving examples.
62.What’s the main purpose of the passage?
A.To warn readers to do more practice. B.To advise readers to depend on genes.
C.To remind readers not to do much practice. D.To lead readers to rethink the meaning of practice.

In 1969, in order to solve the problem of treating malaria(疟疾), Tu Youyou, worked as head of a research team. They did different kinds of experiments. However, the results were not satisfactory. And I certainly didn’t plan to make a great difference to all medicine by discovering the world’s first antibiotic(抗生素). But I guess that was exactly what I did.”

B.We may not succeed although we try a lot.
C.We should always keep trying no matter what happens.
D.We must give up all kinds of practice if we don’t succeed.
60.What does the underlined word “quantity” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.how much you work B.how often you work
C.how fast you work D.how you work
61.How does the writer develop Paragraph 4?
A.By listing numbers. B.By comparing facts.
C.By telling stories. D.By giving examples.
62.What’s the main purpose of the passage?
A.To warn readers to do more practice. B.To advise readers to depend on genes.
C.To remind readers not to do much practice. D.To lead readers to rethink the meaning of practice.
