Playgrounds, Parks and Reserves in Crace
Crace, as a relatively new community, has more playgrounds, parks and reserves than many other areas of similar size. They all offer something different to enjoy.
George Kemp Park
The park has the tiniest and cutest playground in Crace. It has a see-saw (跷跷板), a slide and climbing steps which are nicely arranged for little legs just learning to walk and climb.
Large trees provide some shade and there is a path which is perfect for beginner bike riders to practice their skills.
Duncan Dunbar Reserve
It is a small reserve that includes a playground with swings, a climbing area, a slide and a small pirate (海盗) ship themed play area. This reserve is great for little kids looking to graduate from small-sized equipment to something a bit more challenging. The area isn’t shaded and the surrounding grass reserve area can become muddy (泥泞的) after rain.
Crace Grasslands Nature Reserve
The area is a huge grassland reserve and is home to several endangered animals, including the Striped Legless Lizard, the Golden Sun Moth and the Perunga Grasshopper. There are grassy tracks throughout the reserve for walking and bird-watching. There is also a horse-riding track in the reserve’s northeast.
Crace Recreation Park
There is a large playground with equipment to suit both small and older kids including swings, slides and climbing facilities. The playground area has some shaded seating. Beside the playground is a large area that leads to an outdoor sports facility with tennis, netball, basketball and soccer multi-purpose courts as well as an outdoor gym. The park is also home to a wetland full of birds, frogs, lizards and more.

The first and only emergency hiking shelter in Golden Ears Provincial Park celebrated its 20th anniversary (周年纪念日) this summer, after helping countless people over the past two decades when they’ve found themselves in trouble near the peak.
At a height of over l,500 meters, Golden Ears is home to some unpredictable weather. According to a 2020 global study, more than 20 percent of hiking accidents happen partially due to poor weather conditions.
The weather became such a problem that Ron Paley, former trail-master for Golden Ears Trail Preservation and Restoration Club, was personally involved in multiple rescues while preparing the future construction site.
“One involved a couple of guys hiking, one of whom hurt his ankle. His friend tried carrying him down the mountain, but it’s hard enough hiking that mountain alone, so there was no way he would have made it while giving a piggyback ride to someone else,” Paley said.
Since the structure was completed on Oct. 1, 2002, many people have visited it—whether for emergency or personal use.
Rick Laing, spokesperson for the Ridge Meadows Search and Rescue, emphasizes that this long-standing shelter is designed to be used in only extreme cases.
“But a lot of people seem to use it as a destination instead of for emergencies,” Laing said.
The tough conditions of Golden Ears make it likely that many more of the nearly 1 million people who visit the park each year will need to seek out this shelter in the future.
“I’ve done the Grand Canyon and it’s easier than Golden Ears,” Paley said.
It’s because of this challenging terrain (地形) that completing the emergency shelter took more than two weeks and $50,000. But according to Paley, he looks back on the challenge fondly.
“If this shelter has saved even one life, it’s worth it.”
4.What led to the construction of the shelter in Golden Ears?
A. Its great height. B. Hikers’ requests.
C. Sudden weather changes there. D. Frequent hiking accidents there.
5.What can we infer about the guy with an injured ankle?
A. He lost his life in the park.
B. He was saved by Ron Paley.
C. He had hiked that mountain alone.
D. He was carried down the mountain by his friend.
6.What is Laing’s attitude to people using the structure as a destination?
A. Unfavorable. B. Tolerant.
C. Uncaring. D. Approving.
7.Why is the Grand Canyon mentioned?
A. To imply the importance of Golden Ears.
B. To reveal Golden Ears’ remote location.
C. To show the tough conditions of Golden Ears.
D. To suggest Golden Ears’ growing popularity.

根据文章倒数第三段“‘I’ve done the Grand Canyon and it’s easier than Golden Ears,’ Paley said. 及倒数第二段“It’s because of this challenging terrain (地形) that completing the emergency shelter took more than two weeks and $50,000. But according to Paley, he looks back on the challenge fondly.

From rolling hills to mountain ranges, views make any road trip memorable, but for blind passengers this is part of the experience they miss. Motor company Ford tries to change that. It teamed up with GTB Roma and Aedo Project—to develop a technology that will give those unfortunate passengers a way to feel nature’s beauty through their car windows.
The prototype (原型) of the smart car window has a device with an outside-facing camera. With just a press of a button, the system takes a picture of the current view. The colorful picture is then turned into an image with different shades of grey through LED lights, which vibrates (震动) differently. As the finger passes over different regions of the image, its shaking movements provide feedback through the sense of touch to the person using it. The smart window also comes with a voice assistant that uses AI to identify the scene and help the passengers get information on what they’re seeing.
“As the prototype started taking shape, we realized we were giving birth to a completely new language that would give blind people a new chance to visualize and experience traveling,” Federico Russo, one director of GTB Roma, said. “When the idea was at its first stage, we looked for suppliers all around the world to make it come to life.” He believes the technology can be employed not just in cars. “It could be introduced into schools and institutions for blind people as a tool that could be used in multiple ways.”
The technology may show up in a Ford autonomous vehicle. It’s known that the company is testing their technology and future business model and struggling to figure out how an autonomous vehicle gives different passengers the details needed to get from one destination to another. It’s unclear when this technology will be made available. However, the idea of building something for the less advanced is indeed a kind and influential action.
12.How does the smart car window work?
A. By sorting shaking movements. B. By recording the view with a camera.
C. By translating scenery into vibrations. D. By presenting different shades of colors.
13.What can we know about the technology according to Federico Russo?
A. It will have wide application. B. It will be used in schools first.
C. It will be tested around the world. D. It will understand different languages.
14.What difficulty is Ford facing currently?
A. How to explore their future business model.
B. How the technology is applied to everyday life.
C. How to produce autonomous cars in large numbers.
D. How an autonomous vehicle provides route information.
15.Which can be the best title for the text?
A. AI-based Window Adds Fun to Road Trips
B. Ford Develops a System for the Blind to Drive
C. Smart Window Lets Blind Passengers Feel Views
D. Technology Makes Blind People’s Trip Enjoyable
根据第二段的“The prototype (原型) of the smart car window has a device with an outside-facing camera. With just a press of a button, the system takes a picture of the current view. As the finger passes over different regions of the image, its shaking movements provide feedback through the sense of touch to the person using it.(智能车窗的原型有一个面向外部的摄像头。
根据第三段的“He believes the technology can be employed not just in cars. ‘It could be introduced into schools and institutions for blind people as a tool that could be used in multiple ways.’(他认为,这项技术不仅可以应用于汽车。 故选A。
根据最后一段“It’s known that the company is testing their technology and future business model and struggling to figure out how an autonomous vehicle gives different passengers the details needed to get from one destination to another.

Personal Forgiveness
Taking responsibility for mistakes is a positive step, but don’t beat yourself up about them. To err (犯错) is human. 1 You can use the following writing exercise to help you do this.
In a journal or on a piece of paper, put the heading “Personal strengths”. 2 Are you caring? Creative? Generous? A good listener? Fun to be around? They don’t have to be world-changing, just aspects of your personality that you’re proud of.
At the top of a second page, put the heading “Acts of kindness”. On this one, list all the positive things you’ve done for others. It might be the time when you helped a friend with their homework, when you did the ironing without being asked, or when you baked cookies after the family had had a tiring day. 3
You could ask a friend or family member to help add to your list. 4 That way, you could exchange thoughts on what makes each of you special and the aspects of your personality that shine through. In fact, don’t wait until you’ve made a mistake to try this—it’s a great way to boost self-confidence at any time.
It’s something of a cliché (陈词滥调) that most people learn not from their successes but their mistakes. The thing is, it’s true. 5 We’re all changing and learning all the time and mistakes are a positive way to develop and grow.
A. A little self-forgiveness also goes a long way.
B. Now list all the characteristics you like about yourself.
C. They might even like to have a go at doing the exercise.
D. It’s just as important to show yourself some forgiveness.
E. It doesn’t mean you have to ignore what’s happened or forget it.
F. Whatever it is, no matter how small it might seem, write it down.
G. Whatever the mistake, remember it isn’t a fixed aspect of your personality.
B项与空前一句句式同为祈使句,且选项中的“all the characteristics”是对下文caring, creative, generous, a good listener, fun to be around的品质的概括,且与下一句中的They呼应。
选项中的it指代act of kindness,且write it down是祈使句,与前文的list all the positive things you’ve done for others 句式相同, 且list与write down 属于近义词。
选项中的They指代“a friend or family member”, “have a go”和下文的“exchange thoughts”是前后承接的关系。
