Could the students from less developed (发达的) areas in central and western China get the same educational chances (教育机会) as those in big cities in the east? Could the children in poor rural (农村的) areas develop as well as those in rich cities. Maybe the answers were “No” in the past. But now, China is trying to have a change.
To help rural students grow taller and stronger, China’s Nutrition Improvement Program started in 2011. According to the plan, much more money was spent improving students’ meals. More than 36,000,000 students from 134,000 primary and junior high schools (初中) in poor rural areas have benefited from the plan. What’s more, the schools in central and western areas will get more help to improve their education. Students from rural and poor areas also have more chances to get higher education. A special college plan makes it possible for more students from those areas to go to top colleges and universities.

However, some students laughed at her. “You are not that good!” said Henry, one of her classmates, “No one will like your voice.” Victoria had no idea why the boy was so mean (刻薄的). She felt upset and thought about giving up. But she remembered how much her parents and her friends liked her performance. They always supported her and said she was born to sing.
Victoria did a great job at the show. Everyone loved her singing, and she won the first prize! Her parents and friends felt so proud of her and asked her to keep going on! But to her great surprise, Henry still said that she was not that good, and that she would never become successful. Victoria didn’t understand why Henry said so again, but she realized that it had nothing to do with her. She only cared about the words from those who truly loved her. So she continued (继续) to follow her dream.
As years passed by, Victoria met more people like Henry. “You’ll do a terrible job.” Every time when she heard something bad, the words from her parents and friends came into her mind, and then she got well prepared for each show and moved on. 【原文】Dear sir,
We have some ideas on how to improve our school. Firstly, at break time and lunchtime, we don’t only need places to play football or other sports, but also need to sit down and have some quiet time. It’s better to have a few long seats. Secondly, we would really enjoy having a small café. School is from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with only two short breaks. If there is a café, we will be able to buy something to drink or eat. So we won’t get hungry, thirsty or tired. What’s more, we would like to have an English club with more foreign teachers. So we can talk in English and improve our spoken English. We can also make new friends and share our ways of English learning.
Thanks for giving us the chance to give ideas and we hope they are helpful.
Yours truly,
Mandy

Could the students from less developed (发达的) areas in central and western China get the same educational chances (教育机会) as those in big cities in the east? Could the children in poor rural (农村的) areas develop as well as those in rich cities. Maybe the answers were “No” in the past. But now, China is trying to have a change.
To help rural students grow taller and stronger, China’s Nutrition Improvement Program started in 2011. According to the plan, much more money was spent improving students’ meals. More than 36,000,000 students from 134,000 primary and junior high schools (初中) in poor rural areas have benefited from the plan.
