Dear two-footed creatures who live on me,
Earth here. You know, the wildly unique planet that had just the right mix of conditions to allow human life.
Just wanted to pop in for a second and see if you’ve noticed a few changes in me lately, ones that might . .. oh, I don’t know... maybe persuade you to stop recklessly destroying the earth.
I mean, I know you all are busy driving large SUVs on me and filling my oceans with plastic and whatnot — and hey, I am NOT being judgmental — but I would appreciate it if you’d maybe take a moment and think:“Hey, is Earth trying to tell us something?”
Like all those wildfires in Canada right now. You know, the ones that have already given Chicago and New York City some of the worst air quality in the world a couple of times this summer?
You think I want to burn down my own forests? I worked hard on those things. It’s like growing a nice beard and then having a bunch of people who live on your face come along and set it on fire. Not cool, guys.
Sorry, I didn’t mean to yell. It’s just ... like I don’t know how many more ways I can tell you to be responsible with me. I thought seeing a few giant blocks of ice break off the polar ice caps and crash into the already rising ocean might make you displeased to think: “OK, maybe I don’t need to drive my Hummer to a store that’s two blocks away.”
I’m honestly running out of patience with you humans. And where else do you think you’re gonna go, the moon? I’ve seen the billionaires you think will take you there, and I’m not loving your chances.
So c’mon, be reasonable surface residents and start recognizing the signs and showing me a little respect. Your time is very much running out.
Whatever happens, you won’t be able to say I didn’t warn you.
Sincerely,
—Earth

2.(24-25高三上·重庆·阶段练习)Nestled in the heart of a mountain village in China’s Guizhou province, there is a unique ecological family farm. It is run by Kevin Cillen, a 28-year-old Belgian who is passionate about the land. With his parents and siblings, they have combined Western farming techniques with local countryside practices to cultivate an “ecological oasis”.
The family’s pursuit of their farming dream in China began in 2000, when Kevin’s mother Hetty Cillen visited China as a volunteer for the first time. The enchanting landscapes and rich cultural heritage of Guizhou fascinated her, causing her to make this foreign country her home. Soon after, his father Patrick Jan Cillen joined her. 3.(2024·广东·一模)One sunny afternoon in the park, I witnessed a remarkable scene. An elderly gentleman was standing by the side of a path, looking confused and lost. Just at that moment, a kind-hearted young girl approached him. She asked him gently what was wrong and listened patiently as he struggled to explain.
Without hesitation, the girl took his hand and slowly guided him along the path, chatting with him to ease his anxiety. They walked together until they reached the place the old man was supposed to be. The old man smiled with thankfulness and relief.
After helping the old man, the girl didn’t just leave. She spent some more time with him, sharing some interesting stories and making him laugh. The old man’s eyes sparkled with joy, and it was clear that this interaction had brightened his day. The girl’s kindness seemed to have an effect, as other people in the park also noticed and were inspired by her actions.
I continued to observe as the girl then decided to stay with the old man for a while longer. They sat on a bench together, and the girl began to tell him about her own life, her dreams, and her adventures. The old man listened attentively, nodding and smiling from time to time. It was a beautiful sight to behold, this unlikely pair sharing such a genuine and heartwarming connection.
This encounter made me reflect on the importance of kindness in our society. In a world that can often seem cold and hurried, acts like the girl’s are like the tower of light, showing us the way to a more empathetic (同情的) and caring existence. It also made me think about how we all have the potential to make a difference in someone else’s life, no matter how small the act may be.

4.(2024·广西·模拟预测)I was also heavily bullied before this day by most of my classmates. They would insult kick, and push me down the stairs. Teachers did nothing as the other kids were “paying customers” but I was not. I didn’t want to involve my mother because she was going through a nasty divorce, and I wanted to protect her from more stress.
Then, this day came. These two kids were infamous(臭名昭著)for bullying anything that moved. Younger kids, mostly, as they were cowards. They had never bothered me before that day but had beaten several of my friends and classmates. But one day, as they started bothering my friends and me, I told them to go away. Their eyes lit up as they approached to beat me, and then they made a foolish mistake: they insulted my mother.
I just jumped on them, and it wasn’t pretty though. At some point, I got my ribs bruised by knee kicks by one of them while the other held me. I couldn’t breathe. However, they ended up worse. One had a broken nose and a black eye and was all scratched up with deep scratches. The other had three broken finger. I also trapped his head on my arm and punched him in the head hard that I had bruises on my hands, but he had a big black bruise on the side of his head for a week. I also remember kicking one in the stomach when they were on the floor until two teachers arrived and held me.
Because they had started it, I got no punishment or detention. Teachers were mostly shocked. I think the two boys were also quite embarrassed that a 10-year-old girl had won so they didn’t want to bring too much attention to the fact. But it was too late, dozens of students had seen it(none of which had been willing to defend a younger student from two bullies). The word got around the school. From that moment on, these two did not bother a single soul and kept a very low profile, and they would walk away the moment they saw me.
The best part was that because those two had beaten most of my bullies, my bullies were scared of me, and I was never picked on again. It also taught me that bullying is wrong, but defending yourself is good. I want to clarify that I am not proud to have put two kids in the hospital. What I did was uncontrolled and a bit of an overkill, but it was an unplanned reaction. I am, however, proud to have been the first and only to stand up to these two older boys.

A.Most students and teachers disagreed with the author.

5.(24-25高三上·重庆·阶段练习)When you see someone take that first sip of freshly made milk tea, their faces look like pure joy. Across the world, customers flock to their favorite spots to meet with friends and savor sips of these tasty drinks.
In the early 2000s, though, milk tea was just coming on the scene. The few brands that earned a foothold in the industry were concerned: Would milk tea just be another fad (一时风尚) food? And with so much new excitement for this product, would, people be able to distinguish milk tea companies? These were the questions that Serenitea, a Manila-based milk-tea company, faced in 2014. While successfully opening 60 stores, they found themselves in a strategic fog.
Unsure of what consumers truly felt towards the drink, they offered as many flavors as possible. They also had no clear definition of how they were distinct — their brand promise, product line, and product packaging all seemed nearly identical to their competitors. How could they define themselves, in a way that would deeply resonate?
Like Airbnb, Serenitea partnered with an agency, CIA Bootleg Manila, which specializes in drilling down to the deep consumer “why”. The agency conducted a series of psychological-based market research. Specifically, they probed the consumer’s deeper, emotional connections to milk tea, including their earliest childhood memories of milk and tea. Their research revealed that milk tea triggered three consistent psychological responses.
People connected to milk through the concept of nurturing; they fondly remembered their childhood and being cared for by their mothers. Next, consumers connected tea to its healing properties; respondents would recall receiving tea when they had indigestion problems or seeing their parents drinking herbal tea for health reasons. Lastly, they associated milk tea itself with teenage fun: a guilty pleasure of their youth. They had uncovered the three psychological cornerstones of the milk tea experience: nurturing, healing, and teenage fun. This set of insights was crucial. By including them into the core of their brand strategy, they charted an entirely new path.
17.What do the underlined words “earned a foothold” mean in Paragraph 2?
A.Made an adjustment. B.Won a position.
C.Lost the initiative. D.Achieved a breakthrough.
18.What was Serenitea’s main concern in 2014?
A.Being confused with other brands. B.The rapid growth of milk tea brands.
C.The possibility of milk tea catching on. D.Falling behind the changing consumer tastes.
19.What did CIA Bootleg Manila specialize in?
A.Product packaging design. B.Market expansion strategies.
C.Analysis of customer psychology. D.Flavor innovation and development.
20.What was among the findings of the research?
A.Milk tea was popular among teenagers.
B.Customers found all milk tea identical.
C.Customers associated milk tea with health.
D.Milk tea brands ignored consumers’ feelings.
6.(2024·广东·一模)As a child of a Chinese mother and a British father, young Lily had always been fascinated by the rich tapestry of her dual heritage. However, it wasn’t until her first visit to China that she truly began to appreciate the depth of Chinese culture. One particular experience stood out: her first encounter with the art of Chinese tea.
Lily had grown up with the aroma of tea wafting through her home, a legacy of her mother’s Chinese roots. Yet, it was in the ancient teahouses of Hangzhou that she discovered the soul of Chinese tea culture. There, amidst the gentle rustle of bamboo and the soft murmur of conversation, she observed the ritualistic preparation of tea, a process as natural as the flow of the streams she had once explored in the English countryside.
Her mother, a connoisseur of Chinese teas, introduced Lily to the subtleties of tasting. Why do certain leaves unfurl to reveal hidden flavors? Which infusions can evoke the essence of a mountain mist or a summer breeze? With each sip, Lily felt a connection to her ancestral home, a bond that transcended language and tradition.
The journey of tea from leaf to cup became a metaphor for Lily’s own journey of self-discovery. She decided to embark on a quest to understand the art of tea, to learn how the Chinese have cultivated and cherished this ancient beverage for centuries. She would later refer to this pursuit as her “cultural eco-journey.”
The task Lily set for herself was to immerse herself in the tea culture, to experience firsthand the process from tea picking to brewing. First, she visited the lush tea gardens of Longjing, where she learned about the meticulous care required for each leaf. Then she traveled to the workshops where artisans crafted the tea, each step a testament to the harmony between human skill and natural bounty.
She was captivated by the results. The tea she tasted was not just a drink; it was a story, a history, and a tradition that had been passed down through generations. Within moments, the flavors unfolded on her palate, a testament to the purity and wisdom of Chinese tea culture.
Over time, Lily has delved deeper into the world of tea. She has explored the tea ceremonies of various regions, each with its unique customs and significance. She also discovered the therapeutic properties of tea, how it has been used in traditional Chinese medicine to promote health and well-being.
“Cultural immersion” is what Lily calls her approach to understanding her heritage. “The world is a treasure trove of experiences for the curious,” she says. “You immerse yourself in new cultures and observe the traditions. Then you let these new insights shape your own understanding of the world.”

7.(24-25高三上·湖南长沙·开学考试)Lindsey Stallworth, a high school student from Alabama, is on her way to a promising career in paleontology (古生物学) due to an unexpected discovery on family property. For years, she had been collecting fossils on their land in Monroe County, unaware of significant scientific value. However, her teacher at the Alabama School of Math and Science, Dr. Andrew Gentry, a paleontologist himself, took an interest when she showed him her collection.
“Upon examining the fossil shark teeth Lindsey presented, I quickly identified one and became eager to learn about its origin,” said Andrew.
Lindsey guided her teacher through the rural area where she had unearthed various relics, including shark teeth. Before long, they encountered an especially significant find on the grounds: a large bone from a 34-million-year-old whale skeleton! This led the pair to launch the huge project of uncovering the rest of the bones. After two months of hard work, they’ve managed to find the animal’s skull (颅骨).
“Assuming the entire skeleton is present, it may require several years for us to have the entire animal back in the lab,” Andrew explained.

9.(24-25高三上·广东·开学考试)When the pool near Paris where he worked as a lifeguard was closed due to poor economic conditions, Guillaume Pop took jobs at various other pools that were almost empty. At one pool there was a small waterslide(水滑道), which gave the 22-year-old former competitive swimmer an idea: he would make a TikTok video in which he pretended to be a“professional waterslide tester”.
Shooting down a slide in hard hat and hi-viz vest(防护衣) or smiling broadly in cool shapes to the music, Pop soon became a social media hit. He was hired to “test” slides and other facilities at water parks, swimming pools and campsites all over France. Today, he has more than half a million followers on TikTok and his own real-life waterslide-testing business. No longer working as a lifeguard, he travels the country checking the condition of waterslides, trying them out to determine how fun they are and creating amusing videos to attract customers.
“First of all, I check it without water, to make sure it’s in an acceptable state,” explains Pop, who must keep up-to-date on water park regulations. If he finds a waterslide needs work—for example, if there are bumpy joints, which can hurt sliders—management will bring in a specialist repairer. “After that, I test it with water,” Pop says.
Then he moves on to the fun, promotional aspect. Sometimes he takes over a leisure park and invites social media influencers to enjoy it too. In 2022, he took 25 influencers to O’Gliss Park, an enormous water park on the Atlantic coast.
Pop estimates he’s tested around 700 French waterslides and is now eyeing water parks abroad, such as Switzerland, Portugal and Spain, where he has been testing slides during the winter. “It’s the best job in the world,” declares Pop, whose videos have received 80 million views. “I’m not behind a desk. 10.(2024·重庆·模拟预测)From the sky, parts of Borne o look like the top of a giant broccoli (西兰花). As the world’s third largest island with tropical rain forest, it lies in Southeast Asia. I lived on Borneo and was fortunate to have many wild animals visit my backyard.
During the first week in our home, I found a few eggs in a bed of dirt. I was told they were the eggs of a black spitting cobra (眼镜蛇) which was common here. Poison from its bite can kill a person in one to six hours. However, a cobra makes its living by eating small animals. It strikes at humans only in self-defense. We could live with our cobra by being careful not to surprise or scare it.
As a family, my husband and I and our three children thought of ways to be on the lookout. We made up chants and rhymes that we recited aloud so that we were alert and aware whenever we set foot outdoors. One went:
Cobra, cobra, are you there? Please don’t fall onto my hair.
The other day, the snake was on a branch of an oil-palm tree, less than ten feet from where we were sipping tea. Everyone came out to see it, and chairs were arranged as if for a concert. Its skin was jet-black. It glistened in the sun and lay still. Only through the binoculars (望远镜) could we see her breathing. She seemed to enjoy all the attention.
As we stared openmouthed at her grace, she missed a branch and fell splat to the ground. We burst out laughing as she recovered and wriggled up the tree.
I joked with my husband it was funny the way the cobra was showing off so much that it got too sure of itself and fell. He replied snakes probably do not think like humans. Then I realized a snake would naturally stay near the oil-palm tree whose cores are a rich source of food for mice and squirrels. Small mammals are the cobra’s favorite meal.
We shared the garden with the cobra for the rest of our stay and were sad indeed when we had to move and leave Borneo.

A.For food. B.For rest. C.For pleasure. D.For sunbathing.
40.What is the purpose of writing the passage?

Sincerely,
—Earth

A.Find other planets to live on. B.Walk to stores instead of driving a car.

A.With the use of great force. B.Without any awareness.
C.Regardless of the consequences. D.Through good organization.
3.Why does the earth think humans should protect the earth?
A.The earth is an extremely small plant. B.The earth is the only suitable living place.
C.The other planets are too far away. D.It is too inconvenient to live on the moon.
4.What does paragraph 5 mainly want to tell us?
A.Humans should be blamed for the wildfires in Canada.
B.The earth feels sorry that it couldn’t protect its forests.
C.The bear d is as important for a human being as a forest.
D.Both beard and a forest are important for human beings.
【答案】1.D 2.C 3.B 4.A

根据原文最后一段中“And where else do you think you’re gonna go, the moon? I’ve seen the billionaires you think will take you there, and I’m not loving your chances. (你们还能去哪里呢?去月球吗?我见过那些你认为会带你们去那里的亿万富翁,但我并不看好你们的机会。)”可知,地球认为人类应该保护地球的原因是地球是唯一适合居住的地方。故选B项。

The locals have openly embraced the foreigners, inviting them to festivities and celebrating traditional Chinese holidays together. In 2018, Yang Chengkai, a 34-year-old villager, befriended the family, often assisting them on the farm. “The community has embraced this family.

B.He was still hungry and sad as no one really cared about his needs.
C.He felt fearful and angry because the girl was too pushy.
D.He felt cold and tired as the walk was too long.
11.What can we infer about the author’s attitude?

由文章第一段“I didn’t want to involve my mother because she was going through a nasty divorce, and I wanted to protect her from more stress.(我不想让我母亲卷入其中,因为她正在经历一场糟糕的离婚,我想保护她免受更多的压力。)”
由文章第一段“I didn’t want to involve my mother because she was going through a nasty divorce, and I wanted to protect her from more stress.(我不想让我母亲卷入其中,因为她正在经历一场糟糕的离婚,我想保护她免受更多的压力。)”可知,作者是一个充满关心的人;再从最后一段“I want to clarify that I am not proud to have put two kids in the hospital. What I did was uncontrolled and a bit of an overkill, but it was an unplanned reaction. I am, however, proud to have been the first and only to stand up to these two older boys.(我想澄清一下,我并不为把两个大孩子送进医院而感到自豪。我所做的是不受控制的,有点矫枉过正,但这是一种无计划的反应。然而,我很自豪能成为第一个也是唯一一个站出来对抗这两个大男孩的人。)”可知,作者用自己的行动捍卫了尊严,说明是一个“有尊严的”人。故选B项。
15.词句猜测题。由第四段“Because they had started it, I got no punishment or detention. Teachers were mostly shocked. I think the two boys were also quite embarrassed that a 10-year-old girl had won so they didn’t want to bring too much attention to the fact. But it was too late, dozens of students had seen it (none of which had been willing to defend a younger student from two bullies).(因为他们已经开始这件事的,我没有受到惩罚或拘留。
由文章最后一段“The best part was that because those two had beaten most of my bullies, my bullies were scared of me, and I was never picked on again. It also taught me that bullying is wrong, but defending yourself is good. I want to clarify that I am not proud to have put two kids in the hospital. What I did was uncontrolled and a bit of an overkill, but it was an unplanned reaction. I am, however, proud to have been the first and only to stand up to these two older boys.(最棒的是,因为这两个人打败过我的大多数欺负者,我的欺负者都害怕我,我再也没有被欺负过。它也教会了我欺凌是错误的,但为自己辩护是好的。我想澄清一下,我并不为把两个孩子送进医院而感到自豪。我所做的是不受控制的,有点矫枉过正,但这是一种无计划的反应。然而,我很自豪能成为第一个也是唯一一个站出来对抗这两个大男孩的人。)”以及上文可知,文章主要讲述作者受到欺凌后奋力反抗,从此再也没有受到他们打扰的故事,所以D项Where there’s oppression there’s resistance.(哪里有压迫,哪里就有反抗。)

根据下文“These were the questions that Serenitea, a Manila- based milk- tea company, faced in 2014. While successfully opening 60 stores, they found themselves in a strategic fog.”(这些都是马尼拉奶茶公司Serenitea在2014年面临的问题。 由此推知,“马尼拉奶茶公司Serenitea”是对划线词所在句中“The few brands that earned a foothold in the industry”的举例说明,其意为“为数不多的在这个行业站稳脚跟的品牌”,后置定语从句“that earned a foothold in the industry”中“earned a foothold”的意思是“赢得了一席之地;站稳脚跟”,即“Won a position”。故选B项。
根据第二段中“And with so much new excitement for this product, would, people be able to distinguish milk tea companies? These were the questions that Serenitea, a Manila-based milk-tea company, faced in 2014. ”(伴随着这款产品带来的如此多的新兴奋点,人们能否区分开奶茶公司呢?这些是马尼拉一家奶茶公司Serenitea在2014年所面临的问题。)和第三段中“They also had no clear definition of how they were distinct — their brand promise, product line, and product packaging all seemed nearly identical to their competitors. How could they define themselves, in a way that would deeply resonate?”(他们也不清楚自己究竟有何独特之处——他们的品牌承诺、产品线和产品包装似乎都与竞争对手几乎一模一样。 故选A项。
根据第四段中“Like Airbnb, Serenitea partnered with an agency, CIA Bootleg Manila, which specializes in drilling down to the deep consumer ‘why’. The agency conducted a series of psychological-based market research. Specifically, they probed the consumer’s deeper, emotional connections to milk tea, including their earliest childhood memories of milk and tea.”(像Airbnb一样,Serenitea与一家名为CIA Bootleg Manila的机构合作,该机构专门研究深入探究消费者的‘为什么’。
根据最后一段中“Next, consumers connected tea to its healing properties; respondents would recall receiving tea when they had indigestion problems or seeing their parents drinking herbal tea for health reasons.”(其次,消费者将奶茶与其治愈特性联系起来;受访者会回忆起当他们消化不良时收到茶,或者看到他们的父母为了健康原因喝草药茶。)

Lindsey secured a research scholarship to persist in her fossil-digging expeditions alongside her instructor. Her enthusiasm for the project was at an all-time high, though she had never imagined a childhood pastime would lead her down this road. “We would go out and pick up shark teeth and fossil shells, but we never knew anyone that could tell us anything about them,” she recalled. “We just thought they were cool.”
“The Research Fellows Program allows Lindsey to gain real-world experience in scientific research and even present that research at professional conferences,” Andrew said. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a high school student to stand out when applying to college and maybe even discover a new career path.”

I’m active and outside in the sun. And I build a positive relationship with customers. In fact, all the children tell me they want to be a waterslide tester!”
33.What motivated Guillaume Pop to make TikTok videos about waterslides?
A.His interest in lifeguarding techniques.
B.His passion for competitive swimming.
C.A suggestion from his friends to become a social media hit.

A.He began working as a manager at a water park.
B.He started a real-life waterslide-testing business.
C.He joined a professional swimming team in Paris.
D.He became a lifeguard at multiple pools in France.
35.Why does Guillaume Pop describe his job as“the best job in the world”?
A.He gains a high salary and job security.
B.He tests over 700 waterslides in France.
C.He gets to travel extensively to different countries.
D.He enjoys working outdoors and interacting with customers.
36.Which is a suitable title for the text?

At one pool there was a small waterslide, which gave the 22-year-old former competitive swimmer an idea: he would make a TikTok video in which he pretended to be a“professional waterslide tester”.(当他在巴黎附近担任救生员的游泳池因经济状况不佳而关闭时,Guillaume Pop开始在其他几乎空无一人的游泳池找活干。

In fact, all the children tell me they want to be a waterslide tester!’(‘这是世界上最好的工作,’Pop宣称,他的视频已经获得了8000万的观看量。‘我不坐在桌子后面。我很活跃,在阳光下户外活动。我与顾客建立了积极的关系。事实上,所有的孩子都告诉我他们想成为一名水上滑道测试员!’)”可知,Guillaume Pop认为自己的工作是世界上最好的工作是因为他可以在户外活动,同时与客户建立积极的关系。故选D。

37.Why did we sing out “Cobra, cobra, are you there”?
A.To scare away cobras. B.To draw cobras’ attention.
C.To caution ourselves against dangers. D.To remind ourselves of small mammals.
38.What can be learned about the cobra?
A.It is into humans. B.It thinks like humans.
C.Its favorite food is eggs. D.It is dangerous when threatened.
39.Why did the cobra stay on an oil-palm tree?
A.For food. B.For rest. C.For pleasure. D.For sunbathing.
40.What is the purpose of writing the passage?
A.To show respect for mother nature. B.To call on people to protect snakes.
C.To share an interesting life experience. D.To introduce a common cobra to readers.

根据第二段“However, a cobra makes its living by eating small animals. It strikes at humans only in self-defense. We could live with our cobra by being careful not to surprise or scare it.(然而,眼镜蛇以吃小动物为生。它攻击人类只是为了自卫。我们可以和眼镜蛇一起生活,小心不要惊吓它)”可知,眼镜蛇受到威胁时是危险的。故选D。
