These electronic readers (电子阅读器) not only store books to show on a screen, but they can also read them out loud. This month, Amazon lowered the price of its Kindle reader by sixty dollars to just below 300 dollars. The device can download books wirelessly from a store on Amazon’s Website. Most new released books and bestsellers cost 9.99 dollars. Newspapers and magazines are available with monthly charge. Though reading e-books is limited by the availability of devices and electricity, buyers of e-books get a good deal: Traditional hardcover books often cost around 25 dollars while many e-books are already selling for 99 cents. Books printed on paper are easily shared and resold by anyone. But e-books can act more like computer software which only works for the user who buys it. Thus e-readers can keep the books really as their personal wealth. Paper books can get worn easily and can even miss some pages, but e-books always keep what they are just bought. But some Kindle users got a shock last week. They were surprised to find that the copies of two books disappeared from their devices. They were 99-cent versions of George Orwell’s “1984” and “Animal Farm”. As some users were guessing the reason, Amazon explained that he did not have the rights to the books, so he deleted (删除) them. Later he returned the money to the users. This week, Barnes & Noble, the world’s largest bookseller, started what it calls the world’s largest e-bookstore. People can read the books on the Apple iPhone, personal computers and other hand-held devices. They can also download over half a million books available free from Google. The Internet search company is putting books online that are no longer protected by copyright (版权). But now Google is trying to reach a legal settlement (合法协议) to make parts of some copyrighted books available. 1.This passage mainly tells us __________. A. hand-held devices are suitable for children B. e-books will have a bigger market C. e-books offer readers a new way to read D. the development of books in history 答案与解析 C 主旨大意题。 2.What is the advantage of e-books compared with books printed on paper? A. E-books are not easy to miss pages. B. E-books can be read at any time. C. E-books can be shared by more readers. D. E-books can be sold again after being read. 由第二段最后一句“Paper books can get worn easily and can even miss some pages, but e-books always keep what they are just bought.” 3.From the passage we can know __________. A. readers can get back money if they are not satisfied with the e-books they bought B. the books protected by copyright cannot be downloaded from Google now C. Barnes & Noble is the largest bookseller who only sells e-books D. all e-books on Google should be paid before being read 答案与解析 B 推理判断题。由最后一段最后两句“The Internet search company is putting books online that are no longer protected by copyright (版权). But now Google is trying to reach a legal settlement (合法协议) to make parts of some copyrighted books available.” 阅读七选五 体裁:说明文 主题语境:现代技术 难度:★★☆☆☆ Everyone knows the advantages of using e-mail. It’s much faster than ordinary mail. It’s much cheaper than the telephone. 1 However, it is not always good to use e-mail at work. Some companies are limiting the use of e-mail in their offices for several reasons.   2 You send out your message and then you have to wait for an answer. This is not a problem if you need to send simple information. But if the message is more complicated, e-mail is not so good.  There is another problem with e-mail: You don’t get much information from the message. You have only the words themselves. This doesn’t matter if the message is just about facts or if it is not important. 3 You can’t tell much about what the e-mail sender was thinking or feeling. You may put your own feelings into the message. And this can lead to communication problems in a company.  Psychologists from England studied office workers opening their e-mail. 4 They found that certain kinds of messages made blood pressure go up. It went up if the messages seemed angry or negative. It also went up if the messages were from the boss. It went up the highest when the messages were both negative and from the boss.  The psychologists said that people should be careful how they use e-mail at work. This is especially true for the people with top jobs in a company. 5 They should never send important news by e-mail. They should always meet face to face with the person.  A. One reason is that e-mail is only one-way. B. Sometimes, their blood pressure went down. C. Their messages can easily hurt or upset people. D. And it’s easier than trying to meet with someone in person. E. The psychologists measured the blood pressure of the workers. F. It can help to avoid misunderstanding and strengthen relationships. G. But it might cause trouble if the message is about something important. 4.E 根据后文的“They found that certain kinds of messages made blood pressure go up.” 5.C 根据空前的“This is especially true for the people with top jobs in a company.”(这对在公司里身居要职的人来说尤其如此。)
