根据Yellowstone,Wyoming部分的“With challenging hikes into the backcuntry as well as disabled-accessible (可到达的) wooden boardwalks, the wonders of Yellowstone re for everyone.(黄石公园充满挑战的徒步旅行,以及残疾人无障碍的木板路,让每个人都能感受到黄石公园的奇观)”可知,黄石国家公园有可供残疾人通行的木板路,其他三项没有提到这一条。 根据Hunter Mountain, New York部分的“During the winter, it’s one of a few locations on the east coast that offers really good skiing and snowboarding runs.(在冬季,它是东海岸为数不多的几个提供非常好的滑雪和单板滑雪的地方之一)”可知,冬天能在Hunter Mountain in New York用雪概或者滑雪板。 根据Sequoia Canyon National Park, Calfornia部分的“To really impress your kids, head to Sequoia Canyon National Park where they can meet General Grant, the second largest tree in the world. (要想给你的孩子留下深刻印象,可以去红杉峡谷国家公园,在那里他们可以见到世界第二大树General Grant)”可知,在加利福尼亚州的类洲杉国家公园有棵名为“General Grant”的世界第二大的树。故选A。 B Electric car are dirty. In fact, not only are they dirty, they might even be dirtier than their gasoline (汽油) powered cousins. People in California love to talk about “zero-emissions (无污染的) vehicles,” but people in California seem to be clueless about where electricity comes from. Power plants mostly use fire to make it. Aside from the new folks who have their roofs covered with solar cells, we get our electricity from generators. Generators are fueled by something—usually coal, oil, but also by heat generated in nuclear power plants. There are a few wind farms and geothermal (地热的) plants as well, but by far we get electricity mainly by burning something. In other words, those “zero-emissions” cars are likely coal-burning cars. It’s just because the coal is burned somewhere else that it looks clean. It is not. It is as if the California Green are covering their eyes—“If I can’t see it, it’s not happening”. Gasoline is an unbelievably efficient way to power a vehicle, a gallon of gas has a lot of energy in it. But when you take that gas (or another fuel) and first use it to make electricity, you waste a nice part of that energy, mostly in the form of wasted heat-at the generator, through the transmission (传送) lines, etc. A gallon of gas may drive your car 25 miles. But the electricity you get from that gallon of gas won’t get you nearly as far-so electric cars burn more fuel than gas-powered ones. If our electricity came mostly from nukes(核能)or geothermal, or gyro, or solar, or wind, then an electric car truly would be clean. But for political, technical, and economic reasons, we don’t use much of those energy sources. In addition, electric cars’ batteries which are poisonous for a long time will eventually end up in a landfill. And finally, when car are the polluters, the pollution is spread across all the roads. When it is a power plant, though, all the junk is in one place. Nature is very good at cleaning up, but it takes a lot longer when all the garbage is in one spot. 4. What is the main idea of the text? A. Electric cars are not clean at all B. Electric cars are better than gasoline—powered ones C. People have doubts about electric cars’ batteries D. Gasoline is an effective way to power a vehicle 5. The underlined words in paragraph two mean ________. A. know nothing B. have confidence C. feel excited D. be pleased 6. The electricity we get from a gallon of gas may make our car run ________. A. not less than 25 miles B. as far as 50 miles C. as far as 25 miles D. not more than 25 miles 7. According to the text, electric cars ________. A. are more environmentally friendly B. burn more fuel than gas-powered ones C. are very good at cleaning up D. are poisonous for a long time 【答案】4. A 5. A 6. D 7. 根据第一段“Electric car are dirty. In fact, not only are they dirty, they might even be dirtier than their gasoline (汽油) powered cousins.(电动汽车很脏。事实上,它们不仅脏,甚至可能比汽油驱动的汽车更脏。)”以及通读全文可知,本文主要介绍的是一个客观事实即电动汽车很脏,并不如人们想象中的环保。故选A。 根据划线词前面的内容“People in California love to talk about “zero-emissions (无污染的) vehicles,”(加州人喜欢谈论“零排放汽车”,)”可知加州人喜欢谈论零排放汽车,即加州人认为电动汽车的无污染,零排放性;同时根据划线词后面的内容“ Power plants mostly use fire to make it. (发电厂大多使用火来制造它。除了屋顶上安装了太阳能电池的新人们,我们的电力都来自发电机。发电机的燃料通常是煤、石油,但也可以是核电站产生的热量。也有一些风力发电场和地热发电厂,但到目前为止,我们主要通过燃烧来发电。)”可知,电动汽车所使用的电通常是煤、石油,到目前为止,主要通过燃烧来发电,这与加州人们所认为的观点是完全相反的,故加州人们对电动汽车电的来源是一无所知的。因此划线词与A选项“know nothing(什么都不知道)”为同义词。故选A。 根据第四段中“A gallon of gas may drive your car 25 miles. But the electricity you get from that gallon of gas won’t get you nearly as far-so electric cars burn more fuel than gas-powered ones. (一加仑汽油可以使你的汽车行驶25英里。但是你从一加仑汽油中获得的电力并不能让你走那么远,因为电动汽车比汽油汽车消耗更多的燃料。)”可知,我们从一加仑汽油中获得的电力可能使我们的汽车行驶不超过25英里。故选D。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“A gallon of gas may drive your car 25 miles. But the electricity you get from that gallon of gas won’t get you nearly as far-so electric cars burn more fuel than gas-powered ones. (一加仑汽油可以使你的汽车行驶25英里。但是你从一加仑汽油中获得的电力并不能让你走那么远,因为电动汽车比汽油汽车消耗更多的燃料。)”可知,一加仑汽油可以使你的汽车行驶25英里,一加仑汽油中获得的电力可能使我们的汽车行驶不超过25英里,因此电动汽车燃烧的燃料比汽油燃料多。故选B。 C Astronauts on the International Space Station will soon test a new oven for making chocolate chip cookies. A spaceship carrying the cooking equipment and other supplies was launched on Saturday from the Wallops Flight Facility in the United States. The shipment, weighing 3,700 kilograms, reached the space station on Monday. The goal is to explore the possibility of making freshly baked cookies for space travelers. American company Nanoracks designed and built the oven and helped with organizing the flight to the space station.Hilton DoubleTree hotels supplied the cookie dough(生面团)the astronauts will use. In the past, space station crews have created their own pizzas using a thin, flat piece of bread known as flatbread.Astronauts have tried other creative ways to make food, such as creating salads from vegetables grown in the space station. Results have been mixed. The cookie baking will be a slow process. The oven can heat just one cookie at a time. The test could take weeks before the astronauts have chance to try out freshly baked cookies. Five unbaked cookies have been in a space station freezer for several weeks. Each is in its own individual clear bag made out of silicone. The oven can heat foods to temperatures as high as 177 degrees Celsius. That is twice the temperature of the U.S.and Russian food warmers on the space station. The oven uses electric heating elements. Mary Murphy is with Nanoracks.Murphy says she expects a baking time of 15 to 20 minutes for each cookie when the oven is heated to about 163 degrees Celsius. She adds that the smell of baking cookies should fill the space station each time a cookie comes out of the oven. The oven's first use will be the real test.Without the force of gravity, the astronauts do not know exactly how the cookie will look.Three of the space-baked cookies are to be returned to Earth for testing. 8. Which of the following can best describe the new oven test? A. Time-consuming. B. Energy-saving. C Meaningless. D. Successful. 9 What's the advantage of the new oven over the Russian food warmer? A. It heats up much faster. B. It's more convenient to use. C. It has a larger cooking space. D. It can heat up to a higher temperature. 10. What will make the cookie's appearance in the new oven uncertain? A. The baking time. B. The heating method. C. The absence of gravity. D. The speed of temperature rise. 11. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Cooking Equipment in Space Station B. Cookies Coming from the International Space Station C. Creative Ways Astronauts Make Food in Space Station D. A New Oven to Be Tested to Make Cookies in Space Station 【答案】8. A 9. D 10. C 11. The cookie baking will be a slow process. The oven can heat just one cookie at a time. The test could take weeks before the astronauts have chance to try out freshly baked cookies.(烤饼干是一个缓慢的过程。 Murphy says she expects a baking time of 15 to 20 minutes for each cookie when the oven is heated to about 163 degrees Celsius. The oven can heat foods to temperatures as high as 177 degrees Celsius. That is twice the temperature of the U.S. and Russian food warmers on the space station.(这个烤箱可以将食物加热到177摄氏度。 Without the force of gravity, the astronauts do not know exactly how the cookie will look. Astronauts on the International Space Station will soon test a new oven for making chocolate chip cookies. A New Oven to Be Tested to Make Cookies in Space Station概括了文章内容,适合作为标题。故选D。 D For years, doctors have given blood to patients who need it to survive. These transfusions (输血) usually include giving red blood cells to patients. Blood transfusions aren’t as simple as taking blood from one person and giving it to someone else. There’re several different blood types that don’t all mix well. If someone gets a transfusion of the wrong kind of blood, their body will reject the blood cells, causing problems. For the first time ever, scientists from the University of Bristol, Britain, are carrying out a new trail: testing red blood cells grown in a laboratory on human volunteers. The scientists have used stem cells (干细胞) from a blood sample to grow billions of brand new red blood cells. This could be even better than a regular blood transfusion. For one thing they can be adjusted for people with different blood types. That’ll be extremely helpful for people with rare blood types. Also, a normal transfusion has red blood cells of all different ages, which means only a small part of them are brand new. The red blood cells grown in the lab are brand new, and this means they last longer and that patients will need fewer transfusions. To test its safety, researchers have given a couple of teaspoons of the blood to two healthy people, both of whom seem to be doing just fine after the transfusions. In all, they’ll be tested on 10 people, and compared to normal transfusions. The new process doesn’t indicate that normal blood transfusions will disappear. Meanwhile, growing red blood cells in a lab is extremely expensive. And a lot of work and testing still need to be done. But if it’s successful, the process could make life much easier for patients who often need transfusions-even those with rare blood types. 12. What is special about the red blood cells in the experiment? A. They’re given by those with rare blood types. B. They’re collected from seriously ill patients. C. They’re specifically for a single blood type. D. They’ve never existed in any human bodies. 13. What is the disadvantage of normal blood transfusion? A. There is often a shortage of blood. B. It often takes the patient a lot of time. C. Most normal blood cells don’t live long. D. It’s dangerous for those with rare blood types. 14. What can be inferred about the new process of red blood cells? A. It will have a long way to go. B. It’ll replace normal transfusions. C. It will separate rare blood types. D. It’ll reduce blood research costs. 15. Which can be a suitable title for the text? A. Blood Transfusions Get Easier B. Rare Blood Types Are Not Rare C. Scientists Test Lab-created Blood D. Rare Blood Cells Need Donating 【答案】12. D 13. C 14. A 15. 根据第二段“For the first time ever, scientists from the University of Bristol, Britain, are carrying out a new trail: testing red blood cells grown in a laboratory on human volunteers. The scientists have used stem cells (干细胞) from a blood sample to grow billions of brand new red blood cells.(英国布里斯托大学的科学家有史以来第一次在人类志愿者身上测试实验室中生长的红细胞。科学家们使用来自血液样本的干细胞来培养数十亿个全新的红细胞) ”可知,这些红细胞是在实验室中培养生长的,从未存在于任何人体中。故选D项。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“The red blood cells grown in the lab are brand new, and this means they last longer and that patients will need fewer transfusions.(在实验室中生长的红细胞是全新的,这意味着它们的持续时间更长,患者需要的输血更少)”可知,正常输血的缺点是大多数正常血细胞活不了多久。 根据尾段“Meanwhile, growing red blood cells in a lab is extremely expensive. And a lot of work and testing still need to be done.(同时,在实验室中培养红细胞非常昂贵。还有很多工作和测试需要做)”可推知,红细胞的处理过程还有很远的路要走。故选A项。 根据首段中“For years, doctors have given blood to patients who need it to survive. These transfusions usually include giving red blood cells to patients.(多年来,医生一直为需要血液生存的患者提供血液。 Stand up to Bullying(欺凌) If you or someone you know is being bullied, it can be hand to know where to turn for help. 前文“If you or someone you know is being bullied, it can be hand to know where to turn for help. In this case, there’s the Anti-Bullying Week, which is held from 14 to 18 November.(如果你或你认识的人被欺负了,知道去哪里寻求帮助是很有用的。在这种情况下,有了反欺凌周,在11月14日至18日举行。)”提到人们不知遭遇到欺凌的时候向谁求助,于是有了每年的“反欺凌周”。G项“这一周展示了人们如何互相帮助和支持。” 说这个活动的目的,向人们展示如何互相帮助和支持,前后文是递进关系,关键词“The Week、help and support each other”,故选G。 2. 根据标题“What is bullying?(什么是欺凌?)”可知,本段讲述欺凌的含义,下文“Bullying is when a person or group of people hurts someone else by frightening them or making them feel bad. Repeatedly making fun of someone or telling lies about them is also bullying. Bullying can happen in person and online.(欺凌是指一个人或一群人通过恐吓或让他们感觉不好来伤害别人。反复取笑别人或说谎也是欺凌。欺凌可能发生在现实生活中,也可能发生在网络上。)”讲述欺凌的各种形式,F项“它包括威胁或伤害某人的身体。”也是讲述什么是欺凌,故选F。 3.前文“Being bullied has nothing to do with your hair color, what clothes you wear, how you walk or talk.(被欺负与你的头发颜色、你穿什么衣服、你走路或说话的方式无关。)” 根据下文“If you’re being bullied, it’s important to tell someone what’s happening. If you find it hard to share your feelings, practise saying things out loud first or writing a letter instead. You can help someone else who is being bullied by showing that you care about them.(如果你被欺负了,告诉别人发生了什么很重要。如果你发现很难分享你的感受,那就先练习大声说出来,或者写封信。你可以通过关心别人来帮助那些被欺负的人。)”可知,这一段说的是如何应对和阻止欺凌现象的发生,因此选A“如何阻止欺凌?”作为主题句。故选A。 5.前文“You can help someone else who is being bullied by showing that you care about them.(你可以通过关心别人来帮助那些被欺负的人。)” The biology class was very interesting. And the next moment we were heading out into the forest with a camera, a fishing net and a plastic bucket (桶). We walked through the forest along a path by a small river. We probably ran for about 10 minutes before Mark and Cody slowed down. I stopped to catch my breath and asked, “Who was that?” Mark replied, “The most annoying neighbor ever. There’s no telling what could happen if he caught up with us. He is always making fun of us. I dislike him.” We kept walking on for a few more minutes. A. are more environmentally friendly B. burn more fuel than gas-powered ones C. are very good at cleaning up D. are poisonous for a long time C Astronauts on the International Space Station will soon test a new oven for making chocolate chip cookies. The cookie baking will be a slow processThe oven can heat just one cookie at a time. C. Meaningless. D. A New Oven to Be Tested to Make Cookies in Space Station D For years, doctors have given blood to patients who need it to survive. B. And the next moment we were heading out into the forest with a camera, a fishing net and a plastic bucket (桶). We walked through the forest along a path by a small river. Breathing the fresh air, we three talked and laughed all the way. “Hey! What are you guys doing ?” someone suddenly shouted from behind. Mark and Cody’s eyes immediately widened, and without a word they started running. I had no choice but to follow them, getting my shoes wet and dirty with mud. Then a beautiful lake appeared before our eyes. “Wow! Amazing!” I shouted and could hardly hold back my excitement.
