Four Most Incredible Stadiums in North America
Estadio Azteca
Maybe it’s not the nicest, but it is a must-visit stadium(体育馆)in Mexico. Lying in the suburbs of Santa Ursula in Mexico City, it is the stadium that hosts the national soccer game in Mexico. When the 1970 World Cup was there, it hosted 10 matches, including the semi-final, and the final between Brazil and Italy. Estadio Azteca is the largest stadium in Mexico, with a capacity(容量)of 87,523.
Olympic Stadium
Given that Canada doesn’t have that many professional sports teams (at least not with the same popularity of US teams), stadiums north of the border are generally smaller and don’t quite get the same investment(投资)that stadiums south of the border do. The stadium was used for the Montreal Expos, and now is carefully used for soccer games. In fact, it’s set to host some World Cup games in 2026, but anybody who’s been inside can tell you it’s not a stadium fit to host such a big event.
Madison Square Garden
Madison Square Garden is one of the best stadiums in North America, and not just for sports, but for concerts and other events as well. If you are traveling into New York City by train, you will see the stadium right as you enter the city, above the train station. Before you get to your seats, the outskirts of the stadium actually look like a high-end hotel. It won’t disappoint(使失望)you.
Michigan Stadium
Would you be surprised to know that the second largest stadium in the world is a college football stadium? That’s right. Michigan Stadium, home of the University of Michigan Wolverines, is the largest stadium in the United States and the second-largest stadium in the world. It has a capacity of 107,601.When you see Michigan Stadium, you know you’re talking about college football.
21.What do Estadio Azteca and Olympic Stadium have in common?
A.They were built at the same time.
B.They both hosted World Cup games.
C.They don’t have modern technology.
D.They both can be used to host soccer games.
22.What can we learn about Madison Square Garden?
A.It used to be a hotel.
B.It can also serve as a theater.
C.It is the best stadium in North America.
D.It will host some World Cup games in the future.
23.Which is the largest stadium in the US?
A.Estadio Azteca.
B.Olympic Stadium.
C.Michigan Stadium.
D.Madison Square Garden.

There can be magic in the touch of a hand that loves you. It brings comfort and a silent promise that says, “I am here and you are not alone.”
I memorized every detail about my children. As babies, they reached for me whenever they were hungry or tired or just needed to be held. Sometimes, if they woke in the night, just the touch of my hand would ease them back to sleep. They clung to me when they took their first steps and we held hands when crossing streets and walking from the car to their classroom on their first day of school.
As they grew older and more independent, I noticed that they didn't hold my hand much any more. I told myself it was part of growing up, and I should just be glad they could do things on their own now.
But when you've been needed so much for such a long time, it's hard to step back and feel unnecessary.
Then one day, I was visiting my oldest son in New York, where he was working as an actor on a TV show. As we were about to cross a busy street that was filled with traffic, he grabbed my hand and shouted, “Hang on to me, Mom,” then led me safely across.
At that moment, I realized two things. First, my boy had become a man. Second, it was clear that our roles had changed. We still needed each other, but in different ways than before.
That scene has replayed in various ways with each of my three children. They have all taught me to lean on them just as they once leaned on me, and that we can always lean on each other. We live miles apart, but stay in touch every day. There is magic and comfort and healing in the touch of a hand that loves you, even if it “touches” you from afar.

A.she needed her son more than before
B.her son had become mature and reliable

In a new set of studies, researchers found that people showed greater goal commitment and performance when they told their goal to someone they believed had higher status(地位) than themselves. In these studies, higher-status people were those who the participants thought had more prestige(威望) than they did.
In one study, 17l undergraduate students were seated at computers and told they had to move a slider (滑块) on the screen to the number 50 as many times as possible within the given time. After counting how many times they successfully did this, they had to do it again, but this time they were told to set and write down a goal.
The experimenter then informed the participants that a lab assistant would come around and check on their goals. In some cases, the lab assistant was dressed in a suit and introduced himself as a doctoral student in the business school who was an expert on today’s study topic. For other participants, the same lab assistant dressed in casual clothing and introduced himself as a student at a local community college who was working part time at the business school. A third group of participants didn’t share their goals with the lab assistant.
Results showed that participants who shared their goals with the higher-status lab assistant reported they were more willing to achieve the goal they set for themselves than those who told the lower-status assistant. And participants who shared their goal with the lower-status assistant performed no better than those who told no one about their goal. “These findings provide evidence that refutes popular media recommendations that one should stay silent about a goal,” said Howard Klein, lead author of the new study.
“Contrary to what you may have heard, in most cases you get more benefit from sharing your goal than if you don’t as long as you share it with someone whose opinion you value,” Klein said. “You don’t want him to think less of you because you didn’t achieve your goal.”
28.Why did the lab assistant change his clothes?
A.To act out roles of different status.
B.To approach the students more easily.
C.To work for different business schools.
D.To avoid being recognized by the students.
29.What does the underlined word “refutes” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Deals with.
B.Catches up with.
C.Says no to.
D.Relies on.
30.Why do we benefit from sharing our goals with the right person?
A.We care about what he thinks of us.
B.We get useful advice and support from him.
C.We improve ourselves according to his opinions.
D.We find a strong sense of purpose by sharing.
31.What might be the suitable title for the text?
A.Share your goals — but do use the right words
B.Share your goals — but be careful who you tell
C.Share your goals — and you’ll surely achieve them
D.Share your goals — and you’ll get mentally strong
D
In recent years, Britain has seen a rise in interest in learning and teaching Chinese as a second language. In 2015, Britain’s Department for Education devoted 10 million pounds to Chinese teaching in state schools across the country. Hundreds of pupils are taking part in the program, which aims to make at least 5, 000 young people fluent in Chinese by 2022.
A Chinese-English nursery named Hatching Dragons was established in London in 2015, accepting babies from as young as 6 months to 5 years old. Two years later, the first bilingual (双语的) English and Chinese primary school was opened at Kensington, London.
Petts Wood Mandarin-English Preschool, which opened Friday at Bromley in southeastern suburb of London, is the first Chinese immersion (沉浸式) preschool founded in Britain. After three years of planning and preparation, the school has drawn expert opinions on Chinese immersion learning from Europe, the US and China. It offers Chinese and English bilingual immersive education for children aged 2 to 5.
Bromley Councillor Kim Botting, who has visited China three times, is very interested in Britain-China education exchanges. He called the school a wonderful and fantastic thing for the community while attending the opening ceremony on Friday.
The local community showed huge interest and support to the newly established preschool. Xu Zhi, head teacher of Petts Wood, said the preschool offered up to 25 places and six children registered (before the opening, with many families signed up for trial lessons in the next few weeks.
“I had the idea of establishing a bilingual preschool three years ago when I realized that more and more British families wanted an earlier start for their children’s Chinese learning,” Xu said. “Many high school students in Britain also learn Chinese at school for two or three hours each week, but that is not enough and also a bit late for language learning.”
32.What do we know about Petts Wood Mandarin-English Preschool?
A.It opens to all children aged 2 to 6 in the community.
B.It requires all students to register before the opening.

33.What does Kim Botting’s attitude to Petts Wood Mandarin-English Preschool?
A.Positive.
B.Doubtful.

A.To show the difficulty of learning Chinese.
B.To stress the importance of bilingual learning.
C.To praise high school students for their efforts.
D.To explain the necessity of a bilingual preschool.
35.What is the text?
A.A short story.
B.A book review.

Get your nutrition from a variety of completely unprocessed foods.
These include fruits and vegetables. 38 In other words, when buying foods at the market, focus on things that have not been cooked, prepared or changed in any way.

During the summer before Patty entered fifth grade, she decided to try a new sport. Swim training was nearly over and Patty was the fastest swimmer in her age group. She had always been the best. The neighborhood was offering a one-week tennis training course. Patty and her friend Darla got permission from their parents to join.
On Saturday morning, Darla’s mom took the girls to a store and bought them each a good, used tennis racket. “If you girls stick to tennis, then we’ll talk about a new racket. These will do for now.” The girls were excited about their new purchases. On Monday morning, at 7:00 a.m., Patty’s mom woke her up. “It’s time for tennis!” Patty covered her face. “Mom, it’s too early!” She made great effort to get out of bed and down to the breakfast table. Patty finished breakfast and ran to Darla’s house, then they walked to the court.
Mrs. Cane, the tennis coach, lined everyone up and started with the basics. After that, Mrs. Cane tirelessly taught them to practice their forehand and backhand. By the end of the week, Patty had made impressive progress. Mrs. Cane commented that Patty had lots of potential. Darla, on the other hand, was struggling. The other teenagers were having a tough time of it, too. Patty was the only one who seemed to get somewhere.
Since then, Darla had always been out in the August heat, practicing her serves or hitting the ball. Patty wasn’t really interested. She felt she was such a “natural” for tennis that she really didn’t need to practice. By the end of the summer, Darla began to get the hang of it. She joined a neighborhood junior tennis team. There would be matches every Thursday. Patty wanted to join as well, but she didn’t want to miss her favorite TV show. She told herself that she would join it when she got some free time. If Darla had fun, she would join the team in the spring.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;

由文第一段“In a new set of studies, researchers found that people showed greater goal commitment and performance when they told their goal to someone they believed had higher status than themselves.”(在一组新的研究中,研究人员发现,当人们把自己的目标告诉他们认为比自己地位更高的人时,他们目标承诺和表现方面表现更好)可知,该研究中实验助理改变穿着是为了展示不同的地位,形成实验的对照组,
由该句“These findings provide evidence that refutes popular media recommendations that one should stay silent about a goal”(这些发现提供了证据,___了流行媒体关于人们应该对目标保持沉默的建议),该词所在句前两句“Results showed that participants who shared their goals with the higher-status lab assistant reported they were more willing to achieve the goal they set for themselves than those who told the lower-status assistant. ”(结果显示,与地位较高的实验室助理分享目标的参与者表示,与那些告诉地位较低的助理的参与者相比,他们更愿意实现自己设定的目标。)可知,实验的结果是鼓励分享目标,所以,实验结果与普遍流行的观点相反,所以应该是反驳。
30.A 细节理解题。由文最后一段“Contrary to what you may have heard, in most cases you get more benefit from sharing your goal than if you don’t as long as you share it with someone whose opinion you value,” Klein said. “You don’t want him to think less of you because you didn’t achieve your goal.”(克莱恩说:“与你可能听说的相反,在大多数情况下,只要你与你重视的人分享目标,你就可以从分享目标中获得更多好处。”。“你不希望他因为你没有达到目标而轻视你。”)可知,之所以表现更好是因为在乎他们对自己的看法。
31.B 主旨大意题。由文第四段“Results showed that participants who shared their goals with the higher-status lab assistant reported they were more willing to achieve the goal they set for themselves than those who told the lower-status assistant. And participants who shared their goal with the lower-status assistant performed no better than those who told no one about their goal.”(结果显示,与地位较高的实验室助理分享目标的参与者表示,与那些告诉地位较低的助理的参与者相比,他们更愿意实现自己设定的目标。
根据第三段“Petts Wood Mandarin-English Preschool, which opened Friday at Bromley in southeastern suburb of London, is the first Chinese immersion (沉浸式) preschool founded in Britain.(佩茨伍德中英幼儿园于上周五在伦敦东南郊区布罗姆利开业,是英国第一家中文沉浸式幼儿园)”可知,Petts Wood Mandarin-English Preschool是英国第一所中文沉浸式教学的幼儿园。
33.A 推理判断题,根据第四段“He called the school a wonderful and fantastic thing for the community while attending the opening ceremony on Friday.(在周五的开学典礼上,他称这所学校对社区来说是一件美妙的事情)”可推断,Kim Botting对Petts Wood Mandarin-English Preschool的态度是肯定的。
根据最后一段“Many high school students in Britain also learn Chinese at school for two or three hours each week, but that is not enough and also a bit late for language learning.(英国很多高中生每周也在学校学习两三个小时的中文,但这是不够的,而且对语言学习来说也有点晚了)”可推断,Xu Zhi提到高中生的目的是解释双语幼儿园的必要性。
根据第一段“In recent years, Britain has seen a rise in interest in learning and teaching Chinese as a second language. In 2015, Britain’s Department for Education devoted 10 million pounds to Chinese teaching in state schools across the country. Hundreds of pupils are taking part in the program, which aims to make at least 5, 000 young people fluent in Chinese by 2022.(近年来,英国人对将汉语作为第二语言进行学习和教学的兴趣日益浓厚。2015年,英国教育部为全国公立学校的汉语教学投入了1000万英镑。数百名学生参加了这个项目,该项目旨在到2022年使至少5000名年轻人能说流利的中文)”结合文章主要说明了英国汉语学习的情况以及汉语幼儿园的设立情况。可推断,本文是一篇新闻报道。
本文是说明文。文章主要介绍了保持健康的五种饮食习惯。
36.D 根据该段小标题“Practice mindful eating.(练习有意识的饮食。)”以及该空后的“Adopting a mindful eating approach can help you achieve a better relationship with foods and may reduce binge eating.(采用一种有意识的饮食方法可以帮助你与食物建立更好的关系,并可能减少暴饮暴食)”可知,本段主要强调了通过饮食保持健康的生活方式。D项中的Eating mindfully与小标题中的mindful eating构成原词复现关系,D项中的help you maintain a healthy lifestyle呼应下文中的help you achieve a better relationship with foods and may reduce binge eating。
37.C 根据上文“Eating a high-protein breakfast helps you stay full.(吃高蛋白早餐能让你保持饱腹感)”以及后文“If your first meal is well balanced and contains enough protein, you’re more likely to maintain stable blood sugar levels and not overeat for the rest of the day.(如果你的第一顿饭很平衡,含有足够的蛋白质,你就更有可能保持稳定的血糖水平,并且在接下来的一天中不会吃得过多)”可知,本句主要是在说明高蛋白早餐的好处,C项中的It指代上文中的Eating a high-protein breakfast,C项中的prevent overeating later in the day呼应下文中的not overeat for the rest of the day。
38.F 根据小标题“Get your nutrition from a variety of completely unprocessed foods.(从各种完全未经加工的食物中获取营养)”以及上文“These include fruits and vegetables.(这包括水果和蔬菜)”可知,本句与上文并列,都是在列举完全未经加工的食物有哪些,F项中的also include是对上文的补充,故F项“它们还包括未经加工的肉、鱼和蛋”符合此处语境。
根据本段内容“It’s difficult to eat healthily if you’re surrounded by junk foods. Having foods on display in various areas of the house has been linked to obesity (肥胖) and increased consumption of unhealthy foods. Keeping unhealthy foods out of the house, or at least out of sight, can increase your chances of staying on track.(如果你周围都是垃圾食品,就很难吃得健康。在房子的各个地方摆放食物与肥胖和不健康食品的消费增加有关。把不健康的食物放在家里,或者至少放在你看不见的地方,可以增加你保持健康的机会)”可知,本段主要说明要远离垃圾食品和不健康的食物,故B项“不要吃不健康的食物”能很好地概括本段的主旨,适合作本段的小标题,且B项Keep unhealthy foods out of the house与该段中的Keeping unhealthy foods out of the house构成复现关系。
40.G 由该段小标题“Drink enough water(喝足够的水)”以及上文“Many studies have shown that drinking enough water may benefit weight maintenance and even slightly increase the number of calories you burn daily.(许多研究表明,喝足够多的水有助于保持体重,甚至可以轻微增加你每天燃烧的卡路里)”可知,本段主要说明多喝水的益处, G项中的Studies also show that承接上文,对上文进行补充说明,且G项中的drinking water呼应小标题Drink enough water。

A. danger 危险;B. potential 潜力;C. uncertainty 不确定性;D. untidiness 不整洁。根据上文“I have no idea if they will__2__”和“we waited for our grass to grow—or not”可知,作者他们也不知道院子里的种子会不会发芽,这是一种不确定性。
A. locals 本地人;B. employers 雇主;C. gardeners 园丁;D. regulars 常客。根据下文“I got to know them well”可知,作者和那些客人很熟了,说明那些客人经常来,是常客。
A. grateful 感激的;B. proud 自豪的;C. curious 好奇的;D. stressed 焦虑的。
A. growing grass 种草;B. yard cleaning 清洁院子;C. keeping house 持家;D. house renting 租房子。根据上文“While we waited for our grass to grow—or not”可知,作者觉得自己照看小屋比种草做得好。
Therefore 因此;C. Besides 此外;D. Instead 相反。根据上文“There was no grass growing in the sunlight”和下文“our yard was covered in a rainbow of zinnias”可知,前后是相反的内容,空格处用“相反”。

59.which/that考查定语从句。

sb./sth. be expected to do sth.
前文“Foreign aid is being organized for the tsunami-hit countries.(正在为遭受海啸袭击的国家组织对外援助。)”和空后的“dangerous conditions and damaged roads will make it difficult to deliver food and supplies(危险的条件和受损的道路将使运送食物和物资变得困难)”之间是转折关系,且空后有逗号,所以应用副词however,表示“然而”。

The week before school started, Mrs. Cane held another training course. Darla and Patty signed up immediately. In a class, Mrs. Cane asked the teenagers to play in turn. Darla came first, impressing others with her excellent performance. Mrs. Cane was pleased with Darla’s progress. “Well, I can tell who’s been practicing!” she smiled. Soon it was Patty’s turn. Everyone looked at the “talent” expectantly. Yet, Patty had not practiced and was far behind the rest, which was a shock for all. Patty was upset and absent until the class was over.
Patty couldn’t stop thinking of her poor performance on the way home. She realized she needed change if she still wanted to continue with tennis. The next day, Patty came to Darla’s team when they practiced to ask whether she could join. Warmly welcomed, she became a member of the team that day. Weak though she was, Patty enjoyed herself and worked hard at practice. She finally found that “natural talent” got her nowhere without diligence and she was able to join in the fun. That was one of the best lessons of her life.

Text 6
W: Hello Joshua.
M: Hi, Maria. I’m sorry we can’t be at your place on time.
W: Yeah, we were wondering where you were. What happened?
M: We seem to have made a wrong turn and got lost.
W: Where are you?
M: Let me see. We passed the national bank on Elmer Road ten minutes ago and were now on a street with a tall white building. I think it’s Poplar Street.
W: Gee, you really are lost. The best thing to do is to drive back down Elmer Road until you get to Weston Hospital and then turn right.

W: Yes, after you turn right at the hospital, Cider Street will be the second street on your right.
M: Got it, thanks. Hopefully we’ll be there by seven thirty.

M: Sally, Double Eleven is coming.
W: What is Double Eleven?
M: Well, in recent years it has become a special festival in China.
W: Why do you call it Double Eleven?
M: Because it falls on November eleventh and it is also called Singles’ Day. Single people have parties to show love that day. Then later Double Eleven Shopping Festival is held to celebrate it.

M: I think so.

M: Hurry up, Giana, we have to run. The traffic in San Francisco is much heavier than that in Seattle. We shouldn’t have taken the bus. It would be much quicker by taxi or subway. Has Jimmy woken up yet?
W: No, listen, Evan, I can’t walk any faster with Jimmy in my arms and this bag on my back. But what if you run ahead with your passport and our baggage? You can get your ticket and have a baggage checked in first. I’ll try to wake Jimmy up.
M: Fine. Do you know where the check-in counter is?
W: Yes, row 27 united airlines to Los Angeles.
M: Okay. The gate will close in thirty minutes, so there’s no time to lose.
W: Don’t worry, just hurry up. I’ll take Jimmy to the counter and get our tickets. Without the baggage, it’ll save me a lot of time to go through security.
M: All right, I’ll wait for you at the departure gate. Be careful. If anything goes wrong, you can ask the officials for help.
Text 9
M: You took part in the annual city Marathon last week. That’s awesome. I didn’t know you are an athlete.
W: Thank you, but it’s just a hobby. Marathons allow me to escape from my tiring work at the law office.
M: What about the race? Did you complete the whole course?
W: I ran a half Marathon, about thirteen miles altogether. It took me about two hours.
M: Oh, I couldn’t even picture myself running that long, especially in such hot windless days.
W: The race started at eight o’clock and luckily there were enough clouds the whole morning.
M: Did you carry any supplies with you?
W: No, the volunteers would provide us with enough supplies along the path. It wasn’t as tough as you think. Would you like to join me next year?
M: Eh, I think I can help distribute the supplies and cheer for the athletes.
W: That’s a great idea.

M: Thanks for calling our competition hotline. We have all the information you need to enter this exciting painting competition. The most important date for you to remember is the one you have to send in your paintings by. That’s the thirty first of august. We need them all in by that date, because the winning paintings will be in a show held from October fifteenth to November, first at the school of arts. The next important bit of information is the topic for the competition. Last year’s topic of cities was very successful.
This year, we’d like to see paintings showing your ideas on the subject of the future. Think about your world, your family and home. How might it look 100 years from now? Unfortunately, we can’t return your paintings, but to show that you’ve entered, all of you will receive a certificate.
It’ll look great on your bedroom wall next to your posters and photos. We welcome entries from school groups, so make sure you tell your teacher about the competition. Schools can win a special course with Barry Wells. He’s an artist from Australia who’s produced pictures for many children’s storybooks sold here in England. He’ll be doing classes in how to draw cartoons, good luck and happy painting.
