(2024·陕西西安·二模)My father and I were both angry, “Never set foot in this house again!” shouted my father. With tears in my eyes, I rushed out to the street. I walked aimlessly. A young father who held a child in his arms walked past me. I seemed to see my own happy childhood. But now…I don’t know whether it is because I have grown up or because my dad is getting old.
We have different ideas about almost everything. He always puts his opinions on me. We are just like two people coming from two different worlds. It feels like there is an iron door between us that can never be opened. I walked in the streets but my heart was cold on this hot summer night. As I walked on, there were fewer and fewer people in the streets until there were only the street lights with me. When I finally reached the building where I lived, I saw that the light was still on. I thought to myself, “Is my father waiting for me? Is he still angry with me?”
In fact, it was nothing. Perhaps, my dad was throwing away some of his old stamps because he thought they were useless. I never had the courage to tell him that I liked collecting stamps. All the lights were off except my father’s. Dad was always like this. Maybe he didn’t know how to express himself. After shouting at me, he never showed any moments of regret. However, after an argument he has the habit of sitting by my side while I am sleeping. This was how he always was. He has been a leader for so long that telling everyone else what to do has become his second nature.
The light was still on. “Am I wrong?” I asked myself, maybe… With the key in my hand, I was as nervous as I had ever been. At last, I decided to open the door. As soon as I opened the door, tears ran down my cheeks. I suddenly realized that there wasn’t the iron door that I had imagined between us at all. Love—it’s second to none.

(2024·陕西西安·模拟预测)Do you have a “dazi”? Many people are looking for dazi, or activity partners on the Intemet. Dazi can appear in many ways in dally life, from dancing to studying, working and even going to a toilet! Lately, topics about dazi caused a hot discussion among young people. According to a research, more than half of Chinese young people have at least one dazi.
The relationship between dazi is simpler than a normal one. “Traditional friendships need lots of time to keep, but having a dazi means you don’t need to carry those burdens,” said Shi Zhimin, a 17-year-old student. Her idea was agreed by Ge Jinyuan, another high school student who finds herself uncomfortable with close relationships. “Having a dazi is more relaxing for me, because I don’t need to spend much energy on it, and I can focus more on mv studies,” Ge said.
Ge Jinyuan enjoys talking during lunch and dinner with her meal dazi. “We are both crazy about delicious food so we always share our different views on the canteen food and look for some other fine food,” said Ge. “If my meal dazi doesn’t go to school someday, I’ll be sad for the rest of the day,” her dazi, Li Xin, added. “She is outgoing, so am I. That’s why we are always together.”
What’s more, having a dazi may bring some unexpected result. “Once, my game dazi and I made a mistake when playing a game, but we worked together to correct it. By playing the game together, I’m surprised to find that I have a better understanding of teamwork!” Shi said.
5.Why did Ge Jinyuan think having a dazi was more relaxing for her?
A.Because she didn’t need to spend much energy on it, and she could focus more on study.
B.Because she didn’t need to carry those burdens to keep the normal friendship.
C.Because she found herself comfortable with close relationships.
D.Because she was too shy to talk to other students.

A.行李 B.负担 C.焦虑 D.任务
7.According to Ge and Li in Paragraph 3, what makes them become meal dazi?

A recent survey shows young Chinese are less good at expressing thoughts and ideas. Half of those who were surveyed said they have poor verbal skills (表达能力). And 40 percent of those surveyed said they had trouble expressing themselves well in writing.
Poor education could be a cause of poor communication skills, but that may not explain everything. Of the 1,333 young people who were surveyed, most were well-educated. The problem more likely resulted from the rise of digital (数字的) communication, with texting instead of talking, and short messages instead of long, complete sentences.
Today, having trouble expressing thoughts and ideas is a worldwide problem. In America, some people try to solve the problem by returning to so-called “Classical Education”. This form of education dates back to 500 years ago in Europe. They learn grammar, rhetoric and logic. Grammar meant learning how to write a complete and correct sentence. Rhetoric was the use of grammatical devices to make one’s writing more convincing (有说服力的). And logic was the use of reason to discover what is true or not true.
If you want to improve your communication skills, you might begin by joining or starting a discussion group where you can talk with others about books, latest events or even hobbies. You can also get a beautiful diary and write down your thoughts in it every day. This will enable you to have a clearer mind so that you can get your ideas and feelings across more effectively.
8.What problem do Chinese young people have?
A.They don’t have their own ideas.
B.They are too shy to talk with others.
C.They can’t express themselves well.
9.Why do the young people who were surveyed have poor verbal skills?
A.Because of less reading.
B.Because of the use of digital products.
C.Because of their dislike for communication.
10.How can grammar help us with our communication skills?
A.It makes our writing be accepted more easily.
B.It improves our ability to use sentences correctly.
C.It helps us to decide whether what we heard is true.
11.What can we do to make ourselves think more clearly?
A.Reading more books. B.Picking up new hobbies. C.Keeping a handwritten diary.
12.What does the writer mainly tell us?
A.We need to talk and write.
B.We should get good education.
C.Teamwork is always important.

(2024·贵州贵阳·二模)A promise can go a long way in personal relationships. It is a commitment (承诺) to follow through on your word. But what does it mean when you say “I promise…”, and how does this influence your relationships?
We all have heard “I promise…” time and time again. Promises help us get closer to those we love. Studies suggest that keeping promises holds a lot of emotional value. When we break them, there is a decline (降低) in trust. But why is it so important to keep a promise and how do we stick to it? Here are some important reminders of promises.
Promises are hard work. Usually, it is not easy to follow through on a promise. They require us to step outside of our wants and achieve something for someone else or challenge ourselves to break old harmful habits.
Promises are meant to be taken seriously. Do you remember the first time someone broke a promise to you? When a promise is broken, your reputations (名声), relationships and personal charm suffer. Take each promise you make seriously to make sure that you are not the one causing unnecessary distrust.
Promises are proofs (证明) of love, friendships, family and human connection. Actions speak louder than words. Promises are actions that affirm (肯定) our love and connection with other people. Whether that connection is through friendships, family or strangers, promises affirm that we want to pass on our feelings to others.
Promises are a necessary part of building our relationships. Making and keeping promises plays an important role in our lives. So here’s a word of advice: always keep your promises.
13.Why are promises hard to keep according to the text?
A.We must live outside to keep them.
B.They need us to challenge ourselves.
C.Many of them are our wishes or dreams.
14.What does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.Reputations. B.Relationships. C.Promises.
15.The writer would most probably talk about ______ after Paragraph 6.
A.how we should keep our promises
B.what skills are needed in interpersonal communication
C.why people always like to make promises to others
16.What could be the best title for the text?
A.Getting Closer to Those We Love
B.Keeping Promises Matters
C.Taking Friendship Seriously

We all enjoy being part of a group—there’s no better work than teamwork, right? Actually, I disagree. Teamwork can be hard. In fact, it was so difficult that I left my office job and started working from home on my own. It’s much better fit for me, and it has made me think about why teamwork can make our job harder rather than easier.
Personalities (个性) can make teamwork difficult. There is often someone on the team that puts their needs first. The team often goes along with this person whose ideas might not be the best, just the loudest. Just one difficult personality can make teamwork hard. Combine (结合) several challenging personality types and it’s even harder.
Not having enough time together can also make teamwork challenging. For example, I was once on a team where we never had enough time to meet as a group. To successfully work as a team, you need time together—and lots of it.
A final reason teamwork is difficult because there is often no training on how to work on a team. You can’t just put people in a room and expect them to work well with each other. You need to build trust with your team members. Think of football players: They aren’t just given a ball and told to play. They practice, and they train.
Team can be hard, but working alone has its challenges, too. When my computer doesn’t work, I don’t have an IT person to turn to. When I have a great idea, I don’t have anyone to share it with to see if it really is a great idea. Don’t get me wrong — I still like my team of one and enjoy making all of important decisions myself. But now I realize what was wrong with the teamwork I did in the past and how good teamwork could be if done correctly. And that’s useful information—because one day I might want to turn ME TEAM into a WE TEAM.
17.What makes the writer work on his own?
A.Difficult teamwork. B.Important work. C.His family.
18.Which of the following does the writer agree with?
A.The loudest idea is the best idea all the time.
B.Lack of time together will not influence teamwork.
C.Trust between teammates makes teamwork easier.
19.What would be the best structure (结构) of the passage?
A. B. C.
20.What is the main purpose of the text?
A.To tell the advantages of teamwork.
B.To show the popularity of teamwork.
C.To explain the difficulties of teamwork.

Monday 13th May 9:13 p.m.
We have been close for eight years. When I was a primary school student, she was the popular girl who was willing to make friends with me. Since then, a close friendship has grown between us. But last Saturday, she broke my heart.
We planned to see a film that afternoon. But in the morning, she posted a message saying she had a cold. When I called her, she said she might not be able to go to the cinema. “Don’t worry,” I said. “Get some rest. We can wait till you get better.”
Today, however, a classmate told me she had seen my friend chatting with another girl in a café on Saturday afternoon. How stupid I was! My friend’s “illness” was a complete lie!
I was so angry and I still don’t feel like replying to any of her messages. The stress of this situation is killing me, and I’m at a loss what to do next.
Cindy
Monday 13th May 9:52 p.m.
I’m so sorry! But this friendship is worth saving: eight years is a long time! Don’t be so quick to judge your friend. Perhaps she knows she’s wrong and wants to apologize (道歉), or maybe she will explain for her behavior. If so, you can choose to forgive (原谅) her. Anyway, find a chance to have a talk with her. Listen to what she has to say and tell her how you feel. I’m sure you can solve this problem together.
David
Tuesday 14th May 8:11 a.m.
I truly understand how you feel. I also had a close friend. When I found out that I was tricked by him, I was really hurt and let go of our friendship. I know you value your friendship and want your friend to value it equally. However, if your friend doesn’t care about your feelings or makes you suffer (痛苦), it’s time to rethink your relationship. Talk to her and decide whether this friendship is still important to you. It’s sad to move on, but you have to accept that friends come and go in life.

A.She told Amy that she was ill. B.She made a trick on Amy for fun.
C.She went to the cinema with another girl. D.She has realized she’s wrong and apologized.

(2024·湖南长沙·二模)As humans, we all have moods (情绪). Sometimes we may feel happy or excited. At other times we may feel angry or sad. Most of the time we pay attention to the moods for individuals (个人). However, can a group of people also share a common mood? Of course! A group of people can have a similar feeling about something. Then how can we understand and fit in the mood of a group of people? The answer is to “read the room”.
When you “read the room”, you use your powers of observation (观察) to learn the general mood of people in a certain environment. You may then act in a way that is similar to that mood. For example, if you are in a silly mood—laughing a lot and making jokes, you may need to read the room and change your behavior when you enter a serious work meeting.
You can also tell someone else to “read the room” if he knows nothing about the mood of a group of people. It is a way of reminding the person that he is behaving incorrectly. For example, if you are at a party and people are seated around a table, enjoying good food and conversation, your friend Jason brings up a very serious topic, like a historic war where many people lost their lives. Suddenly, the atmosphere (气氛) goes from happy to serious. You could say, “Jason, read the room! No one wants to talk about that now.”
Reading the room is a useful skill. People who can read the room understand the right mood and are able to act properly. You can train yourself to get better at it, which will make you welcome in any situation.
25.How does the writer lead in the topic?
A.By telling stories. B.By giving suggestions. C.By raising questions.
26.Which is the proper way after you “read the room”?
A.You make jokes and laugh a lot when you enter a serious working meeting.
B.You talk about a serious topic when everyone is having great fun at a party.
C.You turn off the phone and listen carefully when you attend a live concert.
27.Which of the following shows the structure (结构) of this text?
A. B. C.
28.What can be the best title of the text?
A.Pay attention to your own moods.
B.“Read the room” before you act.
C.Never start a serious topic at a party.

(2024·山东泰安·三模)Many people have attended lots of virtual (虚拟的) meetings these years. Some studies suggest that these types of meetings may not affect work efficiency (效率). However, a new study shows that the results are not like what people think.
In the study, 602 participants (参与者) were paired freely and asked to come up with creative uses for a product. They were also chosen to work together either in person or virtually. Among the groups, virtual pairs thought of much fewer creative ideas than the face-to-face groups.
“We ran this experiment based on feedback (反馈) from companies,” said lead researcher Melanie Brucks. “Unlike other forms of virtual communication, like phone calls or e-mail, video conferencing (会议) copies the in-person experience quite well, so I was surprised when we found meaningful differences between in -person and video conferencing for forming new ideas.”
When different objects were placed in both the virtual and physical rooms, the virtual pairs of participants spent more time looking directly at each other rather than focusing on the whole environment on the screen. Eyeing one’s whole environment and noticing the different objects made your brain more active. On platforms, the screen draws our attention, so we stared at the person on the screen. “Looking away might come across as rude,” said Brucks, “so we have to look at the screen. Just like while we are talking to someone in person, we wouldn’t walk to another room.”
So, although the video conferencing has some advantages, like facilitating communication and saving time and costs, it does limit (限制) people’s creativity indeed.
29.What can we learn about Brucks’ experiment?
A.602 people were divided into two groups.
B.Virtual groups came up with more creative ideas.
C.Some companies carried out the experiment.
D.It didn’t turn out as people think.
30.At first, lead researcher Melanie Brucks might think that _________.
A.video conferencing can’t compare with in-person meetings
B.participants should make eye contact in an online meeting
C.video conferencing works just as well as in-person meetings
D.in-person meetings are better for forming new ideas
31.What’s the main idea of Paragraph 4?
A.Different objects have an influence on one’s creativity.
B.Why are virtual meetings bad for creative ideas?
C.In-person meetings are better than virtual meetings.
D.Virtual meetings have different environments from in-person meetings.
32.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A.Virtual Meetings Affect Work Efficiency
B.In-person Meetings Increase Creative Thinking
C.Some Disadvantages of Virtual Meetings
D.Meetings Online Limits Creativity

(2024·广东广州·二模)Lily’s disappointment was surely clear. She woke up on Christmas morning and, along with her brother, ran down to see the gifts under the tree.
In the living room sat a nice mini bike. For a short moment, Lily was filled with great excitement. She couldn’t imagine anything better than getting that bike. Then, she saw a baby doll sitting on the sofa.
Then she knew. She knew that the mini bike belonged to her brother and that doll would be hers. It was always like this. Tommy always got cool things: skateboards, science kits. The mini bike was just the latest cool thing. Lily always got the boring gifts: a set of toy cooking kits, a pair of fairy lady’s feather wings. They were amazing for other girls, but she didn’t like them at all. To Lily, this doll seemed unusually boring again.
Tommy had seen that mini-bike in the front window of Moore’s Bike Shop, but hadn’t Lily too? Tommy had asked for the bike and had said it was the only thing he wanted for Christmas. Although Lily had the same thought, she failed to say it, again. She was a shy girl, even in front of her family.
Tommy’s eyes grew wide at the bike. He knew it was his—no doll for him. He ran into his parents’ room and jumped up and down on the bed, “Thank you, Dad! Thank you, mum!”
At the same time Lily walked into the other room silently. She was disappointed and a bit angry. It took a while for anyone to realize she was missing.
“What’s wrong, Lily?” Papa asked gently. “Did you see your pretty doll?” “I saw it,” she said unhappily.
“What’s wrong, honey? You won’t believe how long your father waited in line to buy that doll! It was nearly 30 minutes.” Mama said.
Silence. Lily’s mouth was fixed. Her face was pale. “Oh, Mama, you know Lily is never excited by presents!” her brother laughed. “Come out and watch me ride!”
And so they did.
However, Lily made a decision after a while. She needed to speak out what she really thought. Then, she took a deep breath, walked straightly outside…

(2024·黑龙江·三模)I’ll always remember the first time I tried ballet (芭蕾). My mother was a dancer and I wanted nothing more than to be like her, but after making mistakes during my first class, I felt like I wanted to give up right away. As it was only my first day, however, I told my mom I couldn’t wait to dance again.
Weeks passed and my dancing didn’t get any better. Then my dance teacher announced that we were going to perform in a show. I was scared of falling on my face in front of hundreds of people and disappointing my mom.
Even though I practiced hard for the show, I never quite got the hang of it. Finally, I went to my mom to tell her how I felt. She simply laughed and told me she would teach me all she knew about ballet.
My mom quickly discovered how bad at ballet I was, but she still taught me with the greatest patience, love and understanding. When I jumped and fell, she was there to catch me. When I lost my balance (平衡), she held me up. By the time the show arrived, I was as prepared as I could be.
The music began and my heart started to race. Breathing calmly, I began moving to the music without missing a step. When the music stopped, I ran off the stage (舞台) and laughed in excitement.
My mom found me and gave me a huge hug, telling me how proud she was. I looked my mom in the eye and told her that there was no way this could have happened without her. Through this, I realized one important fact: My mom will always be there to catch me if I fall.

(2024·北京西城·二模)For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been in the middle. I’m the middle child in my family. I’ve always sat in the middle of the classroom at school. Even my first and last names, Miguel Martinez, start with an M—the middle letter of the alphabet. Luckily, I’m also in the middle of a large circle of friends.
However, starting middle school in September brought me a painful change. All of my closest friends went to a different middle school, leaving me alone. The only classmate I know from my old school is Jake, who is good at math. But since it’s not my favorite subject, we never became friends.
By the end of October, Jake and I became good friends. It happened because I was so hopeless when trying to do my math homework. I hated math—especially fractions (分数). So, one day, I turned to Jake after school. To my surprise, Jake not only knew my name but was also willing to help me.
That night, Jake and I studied math together. He used pieces of a pizza to explain fractions, and by the end of the night, I finally understood!
The next day in class, I was even able to answer one of the math problems. My math teacher was surprised when I raised my hand, and guess what—so was I!
The other day, our math teacher gave us a math brainteaser (谜题). She asked, “If you were to write all the numbers from one to one hundred, how many times would you write a nine?” The question was harder than it seemed.
All of our classmates were wrong. Jake and I were the only ones with the correct answer! After that, more and more classmates wanted to study math with us.
Jake and I plan to hang out together during winter break. It won’t just be the two of us, since all my new friends from middle school will go with us to the Math Museum downtown. Though I now see math differently, some things haven’t changed. I’m still in the middle of a large circle of friends!

(2024·陕西西安·二模)Grace and I are good friends, but once something 59 happened when we both tried out for roles in Alice in Wonderland.
Grace really expected to be Alice and I was sure she could get the leading role. However, it 60 that I was picked to be the leading role Alice. What made me sad is that Grace only got the part of the March Hare. “Do you want to practice together with me?” I asked her after that. “Sorry, I’m busy this week,” said Grace 61 , without looking at me. “And I will be always busy.”
That night at dinner, my parents noticed I was not 62 about getting the leading role. They 63 what happened and asked me why. “Well, Grace was not picked to be the leading role Alice, but I was. She was unhappy. Maybe she will throw away our friendship.”
My father said, “Don’t worry about it. I think this is a 64 for you to be an extra-good friend.”
“Dad is right,” said my mother. “Sometimes when our friends do well, we may have feelings of envy and become green-eyed monsters and don’t know how to act. Try giving her a little time, space and understanding, and she will change her mind soon.”
Over the next week, I tried my best to give Grace some 65 . Then one day, on the way to our practice, I met her. “I just want to say you are such a great actress when acting as the March Hare.” I said to her with a bright smile on my face. She also seemed happy and 66 how she understood the role with excitement. When I asked her to help me with my role, she agreed and smiled, too. She even said sorry to me for acting that way at first. Later, to my surprise, we became 67 to each other.
I came to realize that we sometimes may have a 68 time dealing with envy and disappointment in a friendship. All we need to do is to give our friends a little time, space and understanding. This might be the perfect chance for us to be an extra-good friend.

33.Why was Lily unhappy when seeıng the gifts?
A.Because she was never excited by gifts.
B.Because she liked the bike but it was not hers.
C.Because she didn’t know which gift to choose.
D.Because she couldn’t get the bike she asked for.
34.How did Tommy feel about his gift?
A.Surprised and proud. B.Nervous but moved.
C.Disappointed but thankful. D.Amazed and excited.
35.Why didn’t Lily’s parents buy her a mini bike?
A.Because they didn’t care for her.
B.Because Lily’s brother told them not to.
C.Because they didn’t know Lily wanted one.
D.Because they wanted Lily to like girls’ things.
36.What would Lily most probably do at the end of the story?
A.She would watch her brother riding the bike.
B.She would leave home because she was angry.
